Camera requires Sense? - HTC One X

Looking forward to using AOKP or even CM9 when they're finally 100% on our HOXs, but I really like the HOX's stock camera software.
I'm assuming that Sense is required for the stock camera software to work. Is that accurate? I remember the Sense keyboard being available on non-Sense roms in the past.
Would a third party camera app be able to access the phone's special image chip features?
Has anyone come across a third party camera that comes close to emulating the features of the stock app?

for sense camera app to work on aokp that will be a big no no as it depends on the sense UI framework. maybe a third party camera app yes but then it depends on the kernel that is being used as well though. i remembered there was few things needed for the camera to work on the s2 and it needed the kernel source to be provided to get a few things working on there with cm9. but anyway to answer to the main question yes to use stock sense camera on cm9 or aokp you will not be able to as that camera app is dependant on the sense framework

ROM with Vanilla ICS

Hi guys,
Is there any chance a ROM with vanilla ICS will be made. I dont think i like this Sense.. IMO, ics is better consumed in its pure glory.

I would personally like this as well, and I doubt we're alone... (And then provide apks for the stock HTC apps separately, so we can choose the ones we actually want to keep.)

It never works like this. You either have sense or you don't.
I'd say there is a very good chance we will get vanilla ICS roms - other Tegra3 devices are already getting them. Only difficulty will be the camera I imagine.

Hopefully the device is popular enough for a CM9 official release.
Hopefully soon..that way I can update all my black&cyan themed gapp's

There is "ics" roms based on Sense, that is all sense apps are replaced with ICS apps except where they are better (camera and album for instance) but everything else is ICS. And it works great, i have tested some of these on my evo (wich doesnt even have official ICS yet) so it is possible.
but those are sense based and the advantage is that all hardware works as well as stock but if you want pure AOSP you have to wait a month or two, or more, before a proper aosp kernel and compile from aosp is made.
Has htc released kernel-source for one x yet?

I didn't say Sense, I said apps. I don't know exactly what apps are on the phone yet, and whether there's anything worth having; on my Asus tablet there's a bunch of crap, but there are also a few things (eg. Splashtop) that are worthwhile.
I hope so. S

Yep, and the sense apps are all tied into the sense framework, which means you need a sense rom.
I don't think there is any question of whether or not this phone will be popular enough for CM9 to take it on board - this and the SGSIII are going to be the 2 biggest phones this year. It's just a matter of time before it happens.

In ICS you can dissable apps (essentialy uninstalling apps but they come back after a whipe) like for instance 3'rd party music-apps like soundhound etc.
But sense is there. rosie, clock app etc.
But most apps can also be added back from ICS from what i have seen, like clock, alarm, calendar, e-mail etc and thuss making a sense device "aosp" like without acctualy removing things you need from a sense based rom like binary drivers.

What? oO
Ain't Sense just being another laucher app? Everything else basically being reskins and shameless rips of "unsensed" apps (like Twitter for sense and all that ****) ?
You can install another launcher, and use Titanium to kill/freeze most Sense apps. I use a ICS launcher from a N1 ICS rom. And it works fine. Wish I could replace the status bar / notification drawer as well tho.

There is something called a framework. You can't use sense Widgets on another launcher because of it.

Again, I wasn't referring to Sense apps. This is my first HTC phone; most other manufacturers usually bundle stock apps, I know HTC is bundling some free versions like TuneIn, but don't know if they also bundle any paid ones worth having. Those are what I'm referring to, NOT Sense.

I'd also love a stock ics rom. Only thing that needs to be ported would be the camera app. Omg the app is just the best cam app. The stock camera app is useless in comparison.
Everything else can be scrapped

Not to belabor the point already raised in this thread, but the Sense Camera cannot be ported over to any other ROM. As previously mentioned, the Sense Camera is one of the apps that are inextricably tied to the overall Sense framework. You need to have a Sense-based ROM for the Sense Camera to work.
Just to save any potential heartache for people hoping to port it over to an AOSP-based ROM. Too many tears have been shed already-- many of them mine :]
I hope this happens...The day this ROM comes out for HTC ONE X...is the day i buy it!
OR SGS 3..whichever is quicker!
The ARHD Rom has a lite version stripped from sense.. try that in the development section

Just to clarify here, there's "senseless" and then there's "AOSP".
Senseless is based on HTC stock rom but with many HTC apps removed and replaced with ICS stock. Many of the apps are better however you still have the same underlying framework, it's still a htc sense rom at the core.
AOSP is built from google source, there's not one line of sense in it. It's leaner, meaner, faster, better on battery, but it'll take alot longer to get it running properly. It WILL NOT support most HTC apps, particuarly the camera as these all tie into the HTC core (which doesn't exist in AOSP).
You cannot remove sense from a HTC rom, you can just remove the apps. It's like chopping the top off a weed but leaving the roots. You can't see it, but you still have weeds

I have no idea what you are all talking about, but I know I need Vanilla!! Really hate SENSE...
If I had AOSP would it mean that my camera would not work at all? Or would it just mean that some of the SENSE functions would not be possible to use?

If you had a proper AOSP rom (like CM9, AOKP etc) then the camera would work to take photos and videos, but none of the dual record/high speed type stuff is likely to work. There may even be problems in early builds just trying to get it working, a dedicated imaging chip is quite unusual and depends on what architectural changes there are.
And, if you don't know what I'm talking about with senseless vs aosp, how can you even know that you *need* vanilla ics??

[Q] Hows does the camera in CM9 or AOKP compare to Sense?

I'm curious about how the camera features and functionality compared between AOKP, CM9, and HTC Sense. Has anyone spent a significant amount of time recently on non-Sense ROMs to chime in with some feedback?
Are there any 3rd party camera apps which are "superior" to the HTC Sense camera which also work correctly under CM9? I realize superior is a subjective term, but I would suggest it to mean having all of the functionality of HTC's stock camera with other additional features.

All apps I've tried have failed to beat the sense app, the sense app makes full use of the photo processor of the one x

Like most manufacturers own UI apps they include the correct drivers and such and optimise their software to make use of it properly.
Like when I had CM9 on my SGS2 the camera was much poorer than the stock Touchwiz camera due to closed drivers.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, that's one way to push users to stay with stock software is to keep critical drivers like the camera closed source.
What I can see after a little playing around is that the CM9 camera is very basic point-and-shoot without much in the way of features. Holding my camera as still as possible, pointing at the same target, the pictures turn out much better on the HTC camera.

[Q] Will the HTC Sense 4.0 Camera work on an ICS ROM?

Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to install the HTC Sense 4.0 Camera APK and use it as a default for my current ICS ROM.. I'm using Ice Cream Jibwich 2.0, so far it seems to be the smoothest ICS ROM that works on my Desire Z and does have a working camera.. I just like some of the functionality of the Sense 4.0 camera, and I was wondering if I could get it on my ICS ROM.. Is there anything I need to know about? Is it just as simple as replacing the camera apk or will there be issues with framework? etc.
Thanks
Nope, it needs sense framework. Correct Me if wrong

^What he said.
the Sense-style blobs, drivers, etc is designed specifically for that sense kernel it won't work outside of that.
On a Funny Note: There used to be a ton of these types of threads, except it was how to get ICS cameras working on Sense (since before infinity, Sense didn't have a working camera for 3.6 onward).

TouchWiz Camera APK

Anyone able to port over the Touchwiz Camera for use on CM10?
I use the camera app quite a bit, and I think that the Touchwiz Camera is far superior to the stock JB camera..
No, anything Samsung related will not get ported over.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
is there any particular reason why?
Aosp framework and Samsung framework are totally different. And apparently the camera is what suffers. Almost every aosp based ROM I've heard of across the 3 devices I've u used have had buggy cameras.

[Q] AOSP Dialer + Stock Camera

Hi!
I believe I know the answer to the question, but, is there any way to have both the AOSP dialer and the stock camera?
As far as I know AOSP based roms, such as Cyanogen, do implement the dialer but need LG drivers in order to have the camera working at it's best, which none is implementing at the moment (and looks quite hard to do in the near future).
On the other hand, Stock based roms don't have a way to replace the dialer as of now.
I come from a Nexus device and have been using Lollipop for some months now (since the first preview). I think the dialer is the best overall improvement of Lollipop besides material design.
But the thing about the G3 is that the camera is great. Being used to crappy Nexus cameras this is a whole notch above, and don't want to loose it. Mainly the video recording quality.
I wouldn't mind having either a stock or AOSP based rom. I've tried ChupaChups, Cyanogen, and am using now AN 6.1. All of them are working great.
Anyway I'm sure it's a matter of waiting a bit, development for the G3 is picking up speed.

Cant agree more with you. When im on stock, i miss the G Dialer so badly and when I go with AOSP, I just cant stand its ****ty camera. Now im on Chupachups but still longing for the dialer solution. Hope that one day Google will release its Dialer just as it did with the Messenger recently. 3rd Dialer wont replace the stock interface during call.
Have you tried any 3rd party dialer from Play Store?
