[Q] - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey all, i'm transferring from an X8 to a Wildfire, and i've followed every guide for getting S-Off and getting it rooted, but Unrevoked just keeps saying "waiting for device", can anyone help me.
I'm using Windows 8 Release Preview.

Did you followed this guide on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788776?
I S-OFF'd my Wildfire with AlphaRevX/Revolutionary just search for it on google you find there a tutorial for sure

read and follow the guide to the last word...
i am not sure, but i think "waiting for device" error can be caused by missing drivers...dont be lazy and read few more posts than op,this is common mistake and surely was discussed and answered...
i also s-offed my phone using alpharevx/revolutionary without any problems..

Hboot .83 + unrevoked3 = pita

Ok guys so.I'm trying to root my desire with .83 hboot using unrevoked because from what I read it works but it doesn't.
I get either " waiting for reboot " or "connect your phone..." am I right to assume I don't need a goldcard? My.networks orange uk
Is there any other method of.rooting .83? Except for unrevoked?

yeah, most guides state if you get stuck there to make sure the hboot/recovery drivers are installed.
Rooting my .83 was a breeze, i coulda done it on my head.
Do some reading on how to root an orange phone. HBoot 0.83 is easy as pie, Orange=PITA. At least that's what I have picked up from these forums, and as far as I know you need a goldcard.
Always make sure you read more than you need to before starting to change such an expensive piece of kit. Seems you missed some steps.
Well. I've made sure the drivers are installed. I even tried it with a Linux live cd.
My.question was is there any alternatives? All the tuts point to revoked.
No need to be a prick about it. All I asked was for help

unrevoked works best on a mac or linux machine, windows can have driver issues.
You have USB debugging turned on right? And drivers for HTC sync and for android devices you need to browse to when you connect it? Are you running as an admin?
Turns out I was wrong, people have rooted Orange handsets without a goldcard.
The reason your getting responses that sound like pricks is because all the info is there, people don't want to find it for you.
Second time I've posted this today (no I'm not advertising) search for Root My Droid they have a good step by step guide for rooting the Desire. Unrevoked definately works on Orange as I did it yesterday following the guide they have.
Make sure you have the options to install applications from unknown sources, debugging on and the default connection type as disk drive.
Thanks for the help. Ill try and give it another try. I've rooted 3 desires fine but this is my first .83. That's all. I did enough searches for .83 roots on google. Most of the other root methods were talking about .75 and .80.
Ill uninstall everything and try again with unrevoked.

I had hboot 0.83 and rooted it from my Ubuntu laptop with unrevoked without any problems. Easiest root I've ever done.
i dont have a hboot 83 but i did help a friend do his telus hb83
the guides i read up on stated getting sdk for the drivers and all sorts of other stuff
i didnt.
what i told my friend in short .missing from the guides.
install htc sync then remove the sync leave the drivers part.
download unrevoked and extract the refresh rar/zip.find and run the hboot html found inside and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to have another go at using Linux unrevoked since I think my windows 7 is probably playing up.
Again. Thanks for the help.

I tried but same problem

Where to start... (2.42.666.8)

Pls excuse the ignorance...
I've had my DZ (Bell) since release, I've done all the OTA updates etc. Other than being officially SIM unlocked it's not modded at all, nothing.
I recently moved on so now it's sitting around and I wanna "play" with it. Here's my issue...
There are sooooo many guides to achieve root, S-Off etc. Goldcards, Visionary, GFree... I am super confused.
Is there anyone out there that can point me to where to start and what is trusted to get this thing perma-root and S-Off.
2.3.3

Thanks guys

It's safer to use the guide here in the wiki, the majority of the other ways have a high brick rate

I ended up following this guide which worked flawlessly to downgrade.
Now onto what "should" be the easy task to root and s-off.
Wow I'm suprised the other way didn't work...hmmm. well I'm glad it all worked out for you

Sorry about posting in a old post, but I tried to send a pm but I cant because Iam a new user..
I'am in the same situation that opensourcefan, i'm totally confused and I have the same version of software and android.
Well.. I read that you did this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 but I can figure out what I have to do first. Downgrade? root? goldcard?
I just want to unlock my sim card and then delete some pre-installed apps (maybe after read a lot, try to install another ROM or something).
What is first??
Thanks !
EDIT: opensourcefan just answered me the pm (I didnt know that the pm was really sent, the system said that I need 10 post, but anyway. thanks!!)

DHD HTC Dev Bootloader Unlocking on Mac

Hi,
I'm trying to root my Desire HD using the official HTC Bootloader Unlocker.
At the very first step, how do I deal with the .exe RUU file since I'm using a mac ?
Do I REALLY have to get a Windows installation to get it done ?
Thanks,
I wouldn't use the official HTC method. Causes more pain than it does good. Just use the advance AC hack kit

Thank you so much.
One hour ago, I didn't even know this one-click-all-in-one-superdupertool existed, and right now my telephone is rooted.
Cheers.

Stuck on HTC screen but never been rooted (S-ON)

So around 2 weeks ago I was using my G2 at a McDonald's and all of a sudden it turned off . . . Long Story short, it's stuck on the HTC screen. I can access Bootloader but doing recovery or factory reset does not do anything. I cannot access adb but I can use fastboot
Vision PVT SHIP S-ON

I also tried flashing several PC10IMG.zip files to no avail as each would end up with a "MAIN VERSION IS OLDER" error. I also made a GoldCard but have no idea how to properly apply it to the situation. Please I have spent 3 days working on this, I need help.
posting in more than one spot won't get you any more help, next time root your phone right away and many of these types of issues are easily fixed
you are unrooted and s-on so most things won't work
retry the goldcard and then follow the downgrade procedure found in setherios guide or the xda wiki on the vision
truthfully you may not have much of a chance here but if you want some real time help just log onto freenode and you'll know if you have a brick or not in no time
good luck!

It can allow you to downgrade to an exploitable hboot, thus is the first step in getting S-Off.
