[Q] Charging and USB connectivity problems - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
i have LT15i, baseband 70, Doomlord kernel (ICS, rel.v5) and MooDeD ICS 80.7 (ROM). I have 2 issues with my phone. When i connect cable to my phone (for charging) its charging for aprox. 30 minutes and after that its simply stop charching. Tried several cables, several adapters, several sources of energy (USB, tried every socket at house XD). And here comes second issue... after connecting phone to PC... PC shows my phone as Uknown Device and phone didnt even show that he is connected. I have tried several computers with different windowses. I also tried other ROMS, other Kernels but without success... Maybe i should change baseband ? Or what is the purpose of this stupid problems ??? PLS help me...
Thanks for all reply.

I think u should post this in chaosfirzen rom thread..then he would reply to ur question..

Charging problem may be related to kernel and/or rom

Try rebooting the device and it worked for me

[Q] Note2 not charging, connect(ed) to PC.

Hi,
Yesterday my new (~2 months old) Note2 stopped charging. tried 2 different chargers, 2 different cables connected to PC. No reaction (no beeps, no led, battery icon not changed to flash).
Tried removing and putting the battery back in. No change.
On the other hand, when connected to the PC, the PC identified the connection and allowed file transfer. Later the battery died completly. I succeeded in booting to download mode, and again PC identified the USB device.
Switching the phone on with no battery gave no results either (would not turn on).
This leads me to a conclusion that the USB port is probably OK. Could it just be a dead battery? (according to its label, the battery was made on Nov 29th, 2012).
I will be able to switch battery tomorrow with another Note 2. Anything else I can try till then?
Using custom recovery and stock rom.
Thanks in advance,
Idan

Yeah, with or without battery... no reaction from the phone.
Have you tried a lower powered device to see if that works? Some usb ports don't have full power output, as some laptops portray.

I've tried 2 USB ports on a desktop PC. didn't work.
I've connected it without the SIM and SD to an old nokia charger (0.7ma), no sign of a change but after ~ 1 hour I noticed the red led turned on - turning the device on showed 44% charged.
Now I am too puzzled. any ideas?
This is exactly what happened to me. .. it was the motherboard. I brought an external battery charger, charged the battery full so I could use the phone. Then used triangle away and odin to flash stock rom, and sent it in for warranty service. This seems to be becoming a common fault with the note 2 now....ive seen a few thread recently.

Hey there, my sgn2 n7100 had the same problem before, I tried everything, even disassembled the phone apart, but it was still won't turn on or charge, won't be recognized by pc or Mac. One day when I repaired my mom's iPhone 4 touch screen, I found out that the USB port was so dusty. I thought may be it's all because the USB port was dusty then I picked up my sgn2 and used a soft tooth brush with a little pure alcohol to clean every corner of the USB port. Guess what? After 15 minutes I connected my phone with the USB wall charger, my sgn2 just started to charge again. Trust me guys, try to use a soft brush to clean the USB port before you give your phone to the repair store or somewhere else. Good luck!! Hope it helps.
Same here, i manage to purchase note 2 for 300 euros! And when I put it to charge nothing!I went to download mode and then turn it on normal and its charging! Also happend the same with my s3 so eighter its a charging problems or seems to be one software issues
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
@scufutz I could guarantee the symptoms described by the OP is NOT software issue, as I have an N7100 with same problem and I managed to flash new kernel and still it does not charge even powered off. Download mode connects perfect.
I'll check if this cleaning method, or if its a circuit prob.

USB or battery dead?

Hi
Been having trouble with my arc recently. It wont charge when connected to the cable.
I've tried 3 different USB cables, 2 different wall plugs, 2 different portable chargers and even the USB ports on my computer, and the plugs in school. I find that i take ages to connect the phone properly to charge and sometimes it'll disconnect halfway.
Now for some reason even though i left my phone plugged in, it refused to charge and the battery got completely drained, now its just looping between showing slowly flashing red and solid red light (low battery level charging).
So is this a problem with the battery or the USB port? If it indeed is a hardware fault (i do not have enough battery to flash stock yet, and no spare batteries t use), since my warranty is over, is it cheaper if i bring it into Sony or a 3rd party street repair shop?

Battery is dead ,, buy a new one .. My mother had the same problem on her x10i and new battery solved the issue
Sent from my MT15i using xda app-developers app
Using an x10 now with the same problem previously ...lol... tthat was a cable issue.
Anyway I know a person who owns an arc rtoo, will try to charge my battery on his phone.
Meanwhile my own arc is still flashing red led eevery 2 seconds.
edit : forgot to say that the last time I charged it, the top right hand (where all the internals are) got unusually hot... and I didn't have any problem with the battery previously.

i had the same problem with my Arc S, just need to buy a new battery and the problem will be solved
UPDATE:
Just bought a new battery and it charged from 43% to 37%. I am flashing stock now to see if the problem persists.
Otherwise it's a trip down to the service centre to fix the circuitry perhaps... because my microUSB port works. Also, when I start my phone the top right hand corner where all the components are starts to heat up, but when I look in performance menu nothing is abnormal (processor is normal, I use 364/1400 smartassh3 sio).
EDIT: I am unable to flash stock because as soon as i connect my phone in flashmode the green light flashes for a split second, goes off, and the phone boots.
EDIT 2: I cannot go into fastboot either, same scenario with flashmode except blue LED.
EDIT 3: Just tried another microUSB cable with same result. It's not the drivers problem because I've tried both my computers, and I just flashed a ROM on my x10 yesterday. Also, I noticed that when I try to enter flashmode, after the phone disconnects, it boots into fusion kernel, then just switches off without boooting into ROM. And for some other reason, the battery is at 39% now, after a restart.

[Q] Charging problem N7100

I am having some kind of charging problem with my N7100 lately ..When i try to charge it , it doesnt charge
it might be happening because of the charging pins on the phone ,because when i connect it to my pc sometimes it works and i can transfer files via usb , but sometimes i cant see the device on my system..
when i plug it in while its off this is happening:
please watch the video :youtu.be/KXR3taf83vc
but this doesnt happen all the time , sometimes it charges sometimes it doesnt.
and i know that this is not happening because of the charger , i've tried 3 n7100 chargers + 2 more s4 charger with it .. nothing changed..
i have no idea why this is happening but i am pretty sure its not because of the software , because i've tried at least 8 different roms
rooted/ unrooted (including the original)
nothing changed..
can you help me with my problem ??

Sounds like faulty hardware. You should be able to get it replaced at a service centre.

i am pretty sure it's a mainboard problem, you can get it replaced at the samsung service center.

Your problem is the USB port flex cable. Mine had the same problem so I replaced it. Now I don't get a good signal, but charging works fine now. I have ordered another part and should have it in a few weeks.

I have a similar problem shown in the video. Except that my phone will just display the blank battery image when the phone is off while the charger is connected. My phone would never boot until the charger is removed. Charging is also very slow. An app (Galaxy Charging) reports that the phone is only allowing what's set as max current for USB charging. Everything was fine before I upgraded to ProBam rom. I guess will try a different rom and the stock rom to see if that helps fix the problem. Same problem on 2 USB cables I use, btw.

[Q] phone in charging when is not plugged in, what can i do?

hi!!
I'm running CM10 Final Release (2013-06-07) and 3.0.80 kernel version
works very good on my gW but got this problem on battery. when the phone is not connected the battery status always keep say in charge..
what i can try to fix this?
tnks for support
The first thing you can try is to clean out the charger port. Sometimes either blowing out the dust or GENTLY using a toothbrush in the port will help........
This appears to be a fairly common problem right across the Samsung range.......
If that doesn't work, leave a comment and we'll go from there.....
Back to 10.1 on my S2 for now.....

tnks for the suggest.. i tried to clean the charger port but nothing changed..
some more information may can be usefull.. last week i use the CM 10.1 alpha8.. but was so unstable (also battery get low very fast also when the phone was turned off).. so i decided to come back to CM10..
This isn't a rom problem, it's a hardware problem. Do you have problems with transferring data between the phone and a PC (via the USB cable)?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
nope.. no problem in trasferring data :S
How old is the battery? Is it beginning to swell?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
the battery is pretty new.. 2-3 months.. and isn't swell
And the phone itself? How old is it.....how many months/years has it been in use?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
mmmm.. i think 2 and a half years... well i tried to wipe everything and format the internal memory so reinstal the CM10 final r.. seems works better and the battery lifetime is ab 8 hours..
Thanks keithross39... u were right with the micro usb port of the phone.. problem appears again today and i try to clean better the port and works... so problem solved.. Thanks so much!!

[Q] Battery charging problem

I have an unusual charging problem.
Many of time but not always, i put my phone to charge and it looks like charging. after some time it says that the power i use is less than i charge so my battery goes down. Most of the time i wake up the morning and it is close. The strange is that some times, before it close i do a restart and the battery is much more up% !!!!!! and other times is still down after restart.
I bought new battery and still nothing.
I tried million restart, hard reset, battery calibration, other chargers and still nothing. It also appears on deferent version of roms. Now i have ViperX.
I cant understand why it happens. I have this problem for months... Any idea?
Try a new charger, worked for me on the same issue.

I have already done. the same problem... but can't understand why looks like doesn't charge and after restart is charched or other times don't. before an hour had to shut down for 5 minutes to start charging!!!!
I have really confused what is happening.
I also experience a simillar problem, and sometimes my phone reboots automatically while charging for no reason. Right now i am using a new charger, and looking for a diff rom other than viperX in the hope that it will solve the problem.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Same problem here since months ago!!!
Sometimes when I open GSam Battery Monitor to check the charge speed it shows me about (-400ma to -550ma) which means it's not charging at all and sometimes it shows me (400ma - 550ma) which means it's charging well (-400ma usage + 1000ma charging = +600ma).
And after trying with another charger (not original one) the charging is good at about +200ma, and USB charging is also about +200ma with Fast Charge enabled.
But, can someone try the charger with another phone brand like Samsung and test the charging speed with GSam Battery Monitor for 2-3 complete charges and compare the speed with his original charger (I mean Samsung's Charger), coz I tried with my wife's device (SGSII) but GSam didn't show me the charging speed! and it was working well with her device.
Could be this something related to HTC Kernel?
Could everyone with\without charging problem tell us what Kernel\ROM he is on?
I'm on Lyapota's Kernel | maXimus ROM and was also having this issue with ARHD with Stock Kernel
the point is that I changed charger and I thought that was the problem. after some days I had same problem again. I don't have this problem every time I charge.
I am on viperx 4.0.7 and stock kernel.
