With all my searching I haven't been able to find a straight answer. With ICS having native host support are there any ROMs that have it working?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
I doubt any ROM on this phone having USB host. Other galaxy s2' has a USB host but it's disabled in this phone even on stock roms. I hope someone could prove me wrong, I've been wanting that feature too, I just couldn't understand why this phone doesn't have it. I think that feature could be enabled though through a custom kernel, like how team GLITCH did with their ICS kernels for the galaxy s.

My understanding is that the hardware in theory has the capability however the software does not. Until Samsung releases the code for us to be able to utilize it we're up a creek unless somebody fugues it out on their own.

Thanks for your input. Hopefully some Dev will be interested in this and look into some after source is released. I know there are a few people interested in this.

I've noticed that the OTG cable does not work with our variant of the Galaxy S2. I read that Zedomax had a kernel that enabled OTG function. I was wondering if someone could do the same with the EL29 kernel since it's the latest kernel WITH source released.

You are barking up the wrong tree here. There have been a few threads about USB on the go but so far no solution has been found. I have an adapter but no luck on any rom gb or ics. But I would be more than happy to test any solutions found.

Samsung doesn't really have an answer to this either because on their web site there is a page where it says it will work. Called Sammy a few months back and the rep offers to send my phone in for repair. Confusion much?

Unfortunately it says the the report wasn't confirmed by Samsung, and it also says that its still gonna have to go through the carriers... dunno how att is because I'm new but I know vzw is a huge Hassel when it comes to pushing through any upgrades. Hopefully the code Samsung wrote form its handset gets leaked though because then we will have the capability to flash it without waiting for carrier approval.

Despite the fact that it's not really official (no Samsung confirmation) it's still good news. I doubt this would be an invented news, there's gotta be some truth behind it... now as for the carriers' part in this, that's another matter!
I'm waiting for two things, first, the inevitable leaks, and second, the kernel sauce.

My theory is that the Jelly Bean leak since is actually a Sammy leak and is still being worked on by Tmobile and AT&T uses the almost the same kernel both d2 the devices. The new jelly bean leak has LTE settings in it meaning that you can set AT&T LTE/PTA APN settings and use 4G LTE in theory. Their are risk because the leak contains a new baseband, you can always reflash back to an older baseband though so this is not the biggest deal. The update does not include a new bootloader so no worries their. And you can always flash back to ICS. In my mind this may be worth fixing up a few files to see if it works. I'm going to give a try. I'll report back.
Looking forward to what you uncover drew

The system and everthing seems to copy over fine, it's the kernel that's giving me trouble right now. I'm going to work on it some more and see what I can find out, but by that time I'm sure an AT&T version will be out.
I'm still working on it and will continue.
What about using ktoon's or faux' JB kernel in the meantime?

I want to get the ball rolling on integrating/fixing MHL functionality in 4.2.1 AOSP ROMs, (ie: CM 10.1, AOKP 4.2.1)
I am not a programmer myself but any help that people could provide to get/help the Devs get it back up and working would be amazing.
I hope someone can get it working. I would love to see this so we can use it with the app radio.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Does anyone have insight on where to start?
Do we think it's a driver issue, resource issue.
Mhl did work for me on cm10 m2. I think there were a couple nightly builds it work on too.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm, that could be a good place to start. CM has matured so much since cm10 m2.
If there was a single location, or file that could be plucked from one of the working builds.
Also looking for a fix.

I searched far and wide and have not found an answer to this question, even though it has been asked before. Why doesn't HDMI out work on JB 4.2 ROMS for our device? I hope that this feature will be working after source drops...streaming from our phone to a TV is amazing. I also love custom ROMS as well.....
HDMI out does work on the GB08 and GB27 TouchWiz roms. If you haven't tried GB27 you really should check it out. Everything works properly right from the start.

Because it isn't available in the AOSP source code. Just because we can have the kernel side support doesn't mean it'll work. We need the ROM to support it as well, but Samsung's code isn't open source.

People didn't seem this quick to yell in the epic ROM threads.
But the same thing happend with Bluetooth on the OG Epic and Android 4.2.2 the driver stack broke BT, but it was not always listed in the op.
But I'll become a helpful S3 forum member as i learn more.

It's wouldn't be in the OP, because HDMI mirroring has to be supported at the kernel level for it to be present at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with the rom.
I think this is why you're not getting any straight answers because you're asking the wrong question.

Devs don't add this to their OPs because it's not a ROM related issue. In fact it's not really an issue at all. The simple fact is that vanilla android, also known as AOSP does not support HDMI-out and with that said there's no need for any OP to state that HDMI-out isn't supported because it's known across the board with AOSP. This also includes the Google Nexus devices since they have no manufacture overlays and are pure vanilla android, which is why I suggested looking into Slimports because I heard they provided HDMI-out support for some Nexus devices but don't hold me to it as I never purchased one so I'm not sure if that logic is true. If so, they might work on othe oem devices running AOSP ROMs but again don't hold me to that. You should look into it though.

I understand kernel vs rom. But IMHO if a device does not do x (Hdmi bt etc...) that it did stock it should be said just for the fact that there Would be less confusion (noobs & new ppl to said device)
I don't even have an HDMI thingy, but i would like to use it at my one friends house

It might be known across the board to devs that HDMI mirroring is not supported by AOSP, but the majority of people are ROM users who wouldn't know that. It should be stated in the OP of every AOSP ROM, otherwise their threads are gonna get filled with these types of questions. Thanks for the info though, knowing is half the battle. However, I seem to remember running a few different AOSP ROMs on my GNex that did support HDMI out, not just Slim ROMs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
