Not sure if this info has been posted anywhere. So, I would like to know if there is any way to install APKs from a different rom onto current rom. I am currently running IncRom 1.2, but I have never been a fan of Sense dialers. I would like to install either MIUI dialer or any 2.3 based dialer. Is it possible, and if so, how would I go about doing that? Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
Just download whatever rom you want the apk from and put it onto your new rom? I hope that makes sense as I can't think of a better way to explain ...

I get what you're saying and I've tried that before, but then I always get force closes on phone app. What I've done before is grab apk from 2nd rom, place it in place of apk in current rom. I've tried zipping after that, and not zipping the file. After trying both ways, I reinstall rom, then run into the force close issue. Do I need to reinstall Rom after that? Or am I not even doing this the right way?
You need to fix the permission after you put it into your rom. I use root explorer and its two boxes for the first row then one for the other two.

Sounds good. Will try fixing permissions. Will report back on results. BTW, thanks for the help so far.
I don't think it is possible because the phone apk is tied into the framework. Please correct me if I'm wrong

I fixed permissions, removed current phone.apk and replaced it with the fixed phone.apk. I rezipped rom and reinstalled. Once it was up and running I was right back where I started with the original phone.apk, minus the fc's.

I know this works with the music.apk as I've done it in the past just replacing the stock app with the gingerbread music app and it worked just fine after setting permissions. But now that I think about it more I think I also had to install it just like a regualr app to get all the files in place then set permissions not just replace the file in the system/app folder.
The phone apk ties into other programs. It is not a stand alone flash. There would need to be some code changes to make it work.
Seems like too much work for me. Appreciate the ideas & help you guys offered.

Check out incredibly re-engineered...
Aosp dialer will probably not work on a Sense based roms as Sense is a UI overlayed and pretty deeply integrated into the Android os. You may want to consider one of the dialer options from market...Dialer one is popular. Or you may just want to consider moving to an aosp rom.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I have been trying to install reengineered but ever since I updated clockworkmod I can't. That's besides the point. I have used a few aosp roms but miss out on Sense. Guess I have my cake, but can't eat it. Oh well.

Who are you asking? I never uninstalled stock messaging so I'm not sure who you are directing that towards. This was my first attempt at trying to move apks around so I don't have enough info.
Is there any way I can mod or change the apk on the EC05 Froyo. I cannot stand it. Its always restarting itself even without a force close notification. It makes the phone go soo slow and it only has 4 windows. The stock Enclair browser was so much better. I really don't want to use an alternative like dolphin browser. Please if anyone can help, please do.

If your rooted, push the browser from an eclair rom to /system/app/

Why don't you give a custom ROM a try? SRF has a modified CM6 browser with no checkerboarding, no slow, no crash, no window limit, and Incognito available!
If you must, you can extract that APK from SRF. But why do that?
use Miren (MIUI) Browser.... Blacked Out

Can I just extract the browser and push it to /system/app? Just like that?

You don't have to wipe your data! SRF automatically backs up and restores your data. It's a seamless flash from stock EC05! And help is always available in our IRC channel.
Yes, you can do that.
I tried just replacing the browser apk in root explorer but I got the force close pop up. Any ideas?

No need unless you have issues.
I installed it without wiping anything and my phone never booted past the samsung screen. So I restored to stock ec05 with odin then I restored one of my backups.
Well anyways how can I flash to syndicate rom from rooted ec05 and still keep my data?

You're not on CWM3. You have to re-root with the newest CWM to flash SFR.

Thank you so much im0rtalz; this is awesome. Just installed it on my E4GT running AOKP Build 36 with the FE16 kernel and FE16 modem. It works flawlessly except for one thing: If you try to change the "Wake up command" the app will force close and you'll need to clear cache and data to re-launch S Voice.
Thank you so much again!!!

worked fine for me, might be the s3 is running 4.0.4 already, observing all the replies on here every1 that has success so far is on a 4.0.4 kernel, might be why, i don't know just guessing
I also tried tar or apk and i get a failed to install message, I'm on stock rooted FE16....

The same thing happened to me. I then moved the apk to system/app using es explorer , did a restart and the app appeared in my program list. It works great. I am using fe16 rom.
EDIT: After using this app for a little while, I found that it was not answering my questions like jayhaper08 was showing in next post. I did have Vlingo installed and it was using it for the searches. Even though the apk says voicetalk it should install as S Voice. I uninstalled Vlingo and was then able to install S voice as a regular apk without having to move it to system/app. I now get correct answers to my questions.
Working and installed fine for me in CM9 Alpha4. Just don't try to change the "Hi Galaxy" wake up phrase. It will force close. Loving it so far.
---Jay--- From the CM9 powered E4GT
Tried to reply on the thread in general but it disappeared. lol
This installs fine on Blu Kuban but only gives a blank black screen when you open it then force closes.
Okay taking into account what jay said about trying to change the "Hi Galaxy" line, which of course I tried to do on install. I uninstalled, then reinstalled and now it's working like a champ!
Thanks im0rtalz and jay!

Hey all, some of you may know me from other sammy forums. I currently don't have a galaxy s iii yet, so am limited to what I can do in terms of development at the moment, but would like to release some build prop tweaks for you guys to get things running a little smoother.
The build.prop is attached at the bottom, just unzip and adb push to /system or place it there using root explorer and change permissions to match the existing file.. Enjoy, I will have more to come soon
For the latest lf9 Update.

I placed the build.prop file in the /system directory and gave it a reboot. My phone didn't show the boot animation. Wouldn't boot at all. I had to restore from a nandroid.
I used root explorer. Perhaps it can only be done using adb?

I was looking for a way to disable this.. thanks!
Thanks man.. awesome mod...needed this
I flashed from recovery, rebooted and it said updating apps, starting apps, had my wife call but it still does that lame ascending ringtone. I tried rebooting and now every time it reboots it says updating apps, starting apps.. sucks lol takes a little longer to start up now. Any way to fix? I also found the file you talked about deleting but it said it was read only.

Not sure I can be of much more help if you're on a deodexed ROM already. I've stuck with rooted/de-bloated stock for the time being. Wiping the caches solved it for me, aside from the first boot after the cache wipe, of course, but I'm still fully odexed aside from that one file I deleted.
It worked for me this time, thinfs different from the first try, im now on the lite de-bloated stock rom and modded kernel

So it looks like I need to modify the zip install to remove the .odex file.
Makes sense since de-odexing turns the .odex into a classes file inside the apk, which is then edited. I'll edit the zip today to remove to .odex file.
