[Q] Any KERNELS/ROMS similarin battery saving to Cyanogenmod? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had been using CM7 for a while, and had great experience with it's battery life, sometimes lasting up to 3 days on a single charge.
But some things didn't work well, such as the barcode scanner, camera working eraticly, and the lack of PS Pocket.
So I get back to a stock based ROM, Xperia NXT. It's good on battery life, but not nearly as good as CM7.
I'm looking for something different. Just looking for opinions. One thing to note, DoomKernel SUCKS on my phone. Any time I install it, the battery is sucked dry in hours for some weird reason.
Any ideas?

I have the latest CM 7.2 FXP 122, for me everything works perfectly & smooth, i get about a day & a half battery life with the kernel that is in the zip file, i play alot of music through headphones, surf the internet (facebook mostly lol) & a few games, i havent noticed any bugs, everything like camera, sensors etc work nicely

IMHO AOKP (milestone 6) with Lupus#4-cfs clocked @ 1.3ghz with smartassV2 gives me great battery life. I can get 36 hours with moderate usage. full day with what I consider heavy usage.

Terrible battery life

So I've come to accept that the Incredibles battery life is terrible. But after rooting and flashing new ROMs, how come my battery life is even MORE terrible?? Is it because I've downloaded too many apps? My phone was just charged to full and as I post this it already dropped 10%. I can't get my battery life past 6hours of moderate use ie texting and occasional browsing. This can't be normal, or is it??

Maybe try CM?
Have you considered flashing CM? I get really good battery life on CM and I am running build 17 right now.
When I flashed cm I got stuck in boot loops so I didn't really want to try it again haha

As far as this issue, please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051
Good explanation on what happens to your battery when you think it's being fully charged.
Concerning ROMs that boost battery life, have you looked into those that are basically just tweaked, scaled-down versions of stock ROMs? I'm running Magnolia 1.3.1 and getting more than a day of use with a good amount of texting, calling, browsing, apps, etc.
And this is on the stock kernel! My Dinc is running so well I don't want to screw anything up by flashing a different one haha
Another suggestion would be to use setcpu or similar app to underclock slightly at all times, and drastically on screen off...these processors are plenty fast, and you may not even notice 100-300 hertz less through the day.

I got the worst battery life ever out if the cm's, can't go a full day on single charge!
Dinc running Magnolia 1.3/incedikernel/and BnB theme!
My battery came as a lemon, so I got a new one under warranty and battery life quadrupled. My battery life was insanely bad (like 3 or 4 hours light/medium use) so if yours is that bad your battery might be bad too.

My battery life was much worse with the stock ROM.
I am using the CM7 nightly, my battery life is much better using this rom opposed to the stock.
One thing I had to do was to turn off auto brightness and manually set the brightness. I usually set it to about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up as the screen is bright enough for indoor use.
I watch a lot of videos and this comsumes battery, but with the brightness manually adjusted it was much better. ex if a normal video used 20% of the battery for a 22 minute show, it now uses about 10 to 13%.
Also I noticed that when I am at 100% charge, it drops to 93% in about 10-20 minutes. After that it stablizes and appears to give a more accurate reading.
those are my suggestions. I have had the same results with all the CM roms.
Latest CM7 nightly gave my wife's phone 1 day 11 hours to get down to 20% charge, with typical (for her) usage. Meaning a lot of touchdown email checking/facebook stuff, not a lot of talking.

[Q] Maximize Battery Life

Hey there,
I want to know what is the BEST setup to maximize battery life. What ROM? What Kernel? What UnderVolt ( if any )? What Radio?
My room mate has an iPhone that he modded and it now lasts two days without being charged and that's with moderate usage. I'd like to out do him with my Android. Any help?
-Reiz
So far personally I've had the best experience with the following :
ROM : CM7 ( 7.0.0 )
Kernel : Tiamat 2.6.32.27
Radio : 11.19
I can't seem to get undervolting to work since I don't have the folder that Viper describes even though I am using an AOSP rom ( as far as I know ) . o.o It's odd really... Anyways, that usually gets me about 20 hours of usage or so .
Twenty hours isn't bad, as the Incredible isn't known for it's battery life. You won't get what your roommate's getting with his phone, maybe get a bigger battery...? I don't think you're going to really out do yourself with the experience you've posted, I'd be happy with that.
I am running SkyRaider 4.0, Chad's 12232010 kernel, OC'd to 1.0368 (small OC, I know) with the leaked 04.08 radio, and I can get about 20 - 24 hours before charging, low to moderate usage (no games, emails for work/personal, maybe 1 call of 5 minutes, lots of web browsing).
Cm7 stock kernal. On metro pcs with a seidio 3500 mah extended battery. Unplug at 7am 12 hours later only sitting on 74% lmao. And in that time bout 100 text. And 200 work emails.. and 30 mins of surfing on lunch. This setup has been the best for me on bat life.. used to run sense and my bat life would just suck..

Two things that will kill your battery faster than anything:
-Anything that syncs
-your screen
So, turn your brightness and screen timeout down and turn off anything you don't need syncing all the time, or at least turn the sync frequency down.
Also, keep your wifi, vibration, tactile feedback, and gps off unless you really need it.
Kernels, roms, undervolting...no where near as effective.
Think about your phone as a smaller version of a laptop (which it pretty much is), what's going to save you the most energy: throttling your cpu speed, or turning the screen brightness down?
Much love brother

[Q] Best Battery Life..

I know it's been asked before a million time, but I don't have an Inc my daughter does. she has been running cm7 for the longest time. but it's gotten really bad as time had gone on. I have seen the list of ROM and it is huge, all I care about is battery.. dont matter is it AOSP, sense, senseless etc.
Can you please suggest the rom with the best battery like.
Thanks
Running MIUI with incredikernel with smartass 2 enabled and 128 min, I can go 2 full days with medium use till I need to charge again. But what works for me might not be the same for you or anyone else, that all depends on what all you have running/syncing in the background, how many times it syncs, network data, etc.

If she is using the same stock battery that came from the phone, it's likely that now it can only hold 60-80% of the original charge- depending on her use.
Maybe consider dropping a few bucks on a 1900mah battery (fits in stock casing).
-- -- -- -- --
I would stick with CM7, and make sure you're using the incredikernel. Try flashing the predefined "undervolt" file. If she has reboots, then just revert it and no worries.

Going to have to +1 that. CM7 definitely has had the best battery life on my phone, and I've flashed a ton of ROMs. I'm also running Incredikernel with smartassv2, which I think helps a lot.

Recent Anthem 3.0 can hold amazing charges, the OP had a 54 hour charge, someone also had a 20+ charge.
I'm guessing she uses it alot, Cm7 for me has been nothing but bad battery. Drains within an hour of medium use.
My suggestion is give the Anthem 3.0 a try and see how you and her like it.
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible using Tapatalk
Try Inc-Deck 1.3. It's an offshoot of CM7.1 and it works great with incredikernel 3/21 ICS. Set the govenor to interactivex, the max frequency to 883, the screen brightness to 20%, the screen timeout to 15 seconds and cross your fingers that you live in an area with strong signal.
I get anywhere from 16-30 hours with that combo depending on how much data I use.
If your daughter does not use much data switch it off... an instant 3-6 hours battery boost.

I have to agree with this
Sent from my DrOiD InCrEdIbLe because its CoLd
Anecdotally, I have found battery life improves with two things: leaving the screen off as much as possible (screen always drags battery life) and using wifi when it's available (the comment on data usage is true, it's a drain).
Also, getting a second battery is always a good idea, adds to the versatility of your smart phone experience.
I've found that the older gingerbread and sense roms have better battery life.
I would look into Nils' Business Gingersense ROM, and PureMotive's Anthem ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530687)
I prefer Anthem, and if you follow the instructions on his post (using gingertiny kernel, setting CPU speed) you can achieve excellent battery life.
I personally used Anthem with Tiny's kernel and got about 48 hours with regular use.

[REVIEW] ROM & Battery (Cme play)

Alright so I have had some time on XDA without really contributing. In the past year I have owned 7 android phones and havent really done anything. My newest try is the NITRO HD which I bought with a broken screen but fixing it. I was skeptical because the Optimus 3D had the worst battery life of the 7 I've owned.
Always with LG phones the question is battery life, so I wanted to share a thread where you guys, the reviewers would post battery info screenshots with information on usage (heavy, moderate, light), which battery you are using, which ROM you are using, Battery brand and size
I will post my first battery review pictures as soon as I get the phone up and running with a custom ROM. You guys (or ladies for the ladies out there), if you want can go ahead and start posting.
Rules/Instructions
Post usage information, pictures or link to screenshot pictures, battery size in mAh, which rom you are using (if on nightly, just post nightly date) and I believe thats just about it. Let the games begin.... or Review
Also, to make it fair, charge battery to 100% and then begin regular usage and take screenshot at 20% battery left or lower
Finally I am on CM9 from 5/7
My battery is the extended hyperion (I think thats the name) 3800mAh
Under heavy usage with over 100 texts, a few 2 minute phone calls, screen on for about 1 hours in that entire cycle and also listening to music through Bluetooth headset for about 2 hours and few camera uses
Goal was 10 hours.
between 21% and 10%, I went super heavy pn the phone with youtube videos, web browsing, listening to some music, downloading apps, and facebook. screen was on the entire time.
Battery: Stock 1850 mAH
ROM: CM9 Nightly 04/30/12
CM9 seems to be getting better on the battery life to be honest. I'm actually getting through the work day and then some.
Those times are not bad at all! I thought it would be worse. I ordered a 3800 mAh battery and I'm also getting a stock with the phone. Ill put up pictures tomorrow night EST or Saturday afternoon EST.

about what you are getting. I would say it is at least a 40% improvement.
THE curious part is that up until now I had assumed that improvement was due to how JD handles the screen brightness but my screen is only using 6% < than your screen (12% v 18%).
it doesn't seem to me that the savings from the screen adds up enough to = the 40%, but hard to tell, what do you think?
Yeah it's definitely more than just the screen brightness. When I used JD on gb before I didn't like it because it would not allow my Google+ messages to get through real time, even when I enabled screen off in the options..

WOW! that's on stock??? Thats great! now im thinking i should not have bought the extended (not a fan of bulky batteries) Anything more than 10 hours for me is enough and that got you to 15. And i didnt like JD ultimate on GB either. Im about to kdz my way back to rootable firmware and then flash cm9 nightly and have a try. (accidentally applied AT&T firmware update)
^Your standards are sort of low? 10 hours??? Phone should last a day (less sleep) - 16-17 hours. I have a skyrocket, a captivate, this P930, and now a one X and the battery life is just unacceptable on the P930. Bad enough I'm gonna have to ditch it.

Well everyone is different so yeah 10 hours is good enough for me. Just need something where i dont have to plug it in when im out of the house from 7 to 5 and thats fine. i got the extended anyway so it wont be bad but yeah i would be fine with 10 hours. also, the nitro, is actually not bad. im running stock and its not as slow as people make it seem. its definitely faster than my old infuse (over clocked and optimized with custom rom). The only doubts i had was the battery thats why i got the extended and have the stock as backup. but everyone is different. if you want to ditch it then its up to you, but its a good phone.

The main reason I HAD to switch to CM9 was that the colour gradients on the screen in gingerbread were driving me crazy. GB doesn't support the 1280x720 pixels our phone pushes, but ICS does

I agree, my post came off as sort of harsh, didn't mean it do. I'm just disappointed. I liked the Nitro so much, but something is seriously wrong with the battery life. The battery is plenty big, we make sure no apps are misbehaving....but the battery life is AWFUL. Waayyyyy worse than any similar phone. It's a bummer.

^No, what I have is a problem. And since you have "good" battery life, I thought maybe you can share a solution. I wonder if there's a voltage issue or something with the stock kernel. We run the same chipset as the skyrocket, right?

[Q] Any way to Increase battery life?

I'm just wondering if there's any known methods to increase the battery life without sacrificing performance. Yeah, The rom is based off of stock H2 and is supposed to have some battery tweaks to make it last longer. All of the people said battery was good using this combo and 1 person said it's been 1 day 16 minutes, and they had 26% left but they didn't post the usage.
Ok this is with the stock rom. Heavy usage by my means any way. It was on the charger for a few mins here and there. But really not enough to show real battery increase.

The best way to determine battery life (not I played a game for a little, surfed the web over 4G, called some, texted all day) is to take a screenshot of your Screen On time, and overall time since charging. Otherwise, your statements are pointless.

Don't use the phone. The screen will almost always be your biggest power draw. Screen-on time is relevant because if you have the screen on for three or four hours you aren't going to see battery life that is any better.

Your right, it is relevant when comparing, but I'm not comparing anything here just looking for tips and tricks. I looked at battery stats when I compared the stock battery to the rom battery and recorded both stats on heavy use. If you want statistics, I got 9h 38m of battery use, internet and netflix took up 31% battery consumption, games took up 23%, phone calls and texting took up 12%, and the other 34% is basically screen off time. These were the stats from when I tested it on the Wanam Lite rom. I'm not confused as to why it only lasts about 9 and a half, hours as you can see I was constantly on the phone when I was testing it.

Well not only were you watching a video (I assume, instead of just browsing) Netflix, you were streaming. That probably did a number on your battery. I know I cannot stream Netflix for very long if I want my phone to last through the day. Also games, things that will ramp up the processor, etc while using the screen will tax your battery more than usual.

Yeah, this isn't my everyday use, nor would I do this if I was trying to maximize my battery life. This was purely for testing the battery life on heavy usage and I found that it was only a little bit better when compared to stock. I'm in no way complaining, I think Wanam has done a amazing job with the rom. The stability is great, speed is comparable to JB roms, and battery is a lot better. Unless used heavily as shown above, then it's only slightly better then stock which is kind of odd but makes sense. I was just wondering what all a person could do to maximize their battery life, that's all.

Once again, thanks for the useless post. It's called sarcasm. Too bad your skull is too thick to pick up on it.

I just was wondering what all a person could do to maximize their battery life, that's all.
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try this since I don't use most of the motion features either.

No worries! If you have trouble with idle battery drain, something like Juice Defender will help a lot if you're going to have the phone idle for extended periods of time. Other than that, all I can think of is underclocking (I run at 1350), and sometimes overclocking your min-CPU speed can help as well. The thought behind this is is that the CPU will be able to finish tasks faster, even if slightly, and then be able to go back into deep sleep. I know a lot of people on the Galaxy Nexus forums run 700min, 1000max because of this.

Thanks, I actually didn't know that, I also heard undervolting can increase battery life and reduce the battery/phone heating up but someone said that it can it will have a major effect on the CPU, not sure if it's true or not.
