Terrible battery life - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've come to accept that the Incredibles battery life is terrible. But after rooting and flashing new ROMs, how come my battery life is even MORE terrible?? Is it because I've downloaded too many apps? My phone was just charged to full and as I post this it already dropped 10%. I can't get my battery life past 6hours of moderate use ie texting and occasional browsing. This can't be normal, or is it??

Maybe try CM?
Have you considered flashing CM? I get really good battery life on CM and I am running build 17 right now.

When I flashed cm I got stuck in boot loops so I didn't really want to try it again haha

Did u wipe data/cache and Dalvik cache? It's a must since CM7 is an AOSP rom. Just sayin'.

As far as this issue, please see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051
Good explanation on what happens to your battery when you think it's being fully charged.
Concerning ROMs that boost battery life, have you looked into those that are basically just tweaked, scaled-down versions of stock ROMs? I'm running Magnolia 1.3.1 and getting more than a day of use with a good amount of texting, calling, browsing, apps, etc.
And this is on the stock kernel! My Dinc is running so well I don't want to screw anything up by flashing a different one haha

Another suggestion would be to use setcpu or similar app to underclock slightly at all times, and drastically on screen off...these processors are plenty fast, and you may not even notice 100-300 hertz less through the day.

I got the worst battery life ever out if the cm's, can't go a full day on single charge!
Dinc running Magnolia 1.3/incedikernel/and BnB theme!

My battery came as a lemon, so I got a new one under warranty and battery life quadrupled. My battery life was insanely bad (like 3 or 4 hours light/medium use) so if yours is that bad your battery might be bad too.

My battery life was much worse with the stock ROM.
I am using the CM7 nightly, my battery life is much better using this rom opposed to the stock.
One thing I had to do was to turn off auto brightness and manually set the brightness. I usually set it to about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up as the screen is bright enough for indoor use.
I watch a lot of videos and this comsumes battery, but with the brightness manually adjusted it was much better. ex if a normal video used 20% of the battery for a 22 minute show, it now uses about 10 to 13%.
Also I noticed that when I am at 100% charge, it drops to 93% in about 10-20 minutes. After that it stablizes and appears to give a more accurate reading.
those are my suggestions. I have had the same results with all the CM roms.

Latest CM7 nightly gave my wife's phone 1 day 11 hours to get down to 20% charge, with typical (for her) usage. Meaning a lot of touchdown email checking/facebook stuff, not a lot of talking.

(Q)CM6 battery life

The battery life doesn't seem to last too long compared to the stock froyo rom or even the 2.1 rom that came with the phone after the update that increased battery life.. is there anything I can do to increase battery life? Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
how long do you need it to last? 12-16hrs w/ moderate use is fine for me because it gets a charger every night. are you away from one that long?
I'm getting 20 + hours with cm6 with moderate use but I have to agree 12-15 hours should be plenty
Have you condition your battery? Are you undervoltin etc etc
from the fade
ha! must be doing something wrong, this ****s all over the stock roms battery life
went whole day playing with cm6 and didnt need a charge

A rant about my experience with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. HELP!!

Let me start off with the good in this rant. This device is BEAUTIFUL and has A LOT of potential. Considering i just rooted it, it is even more fantastic BUT (there is always a "but" in life) here are my issues that i PRAY would go away. For some odd reason, though i have done everything i can to prevent it from happening, the battery life is just terrible! And here is the mind blowing part: My brightness is always at about 15-30 percent, my automatic sleep is at 15 seconds, i am never on 4G, NFC is off and my GPS is almost, always off. I recently learned that having a lot of black (Wallpaper, themes or simply a black display) going on prevents the display from eating up battery, therefore i've blackened what i use most (MMS, Gmail, Instagram and of course a black wallpaper) but after all of that, the battery still tends to suck major ball sack (sorry for the vivid image). If you must know i am using an AOKP rom, Jelly bean. I absolutely love the rom.
On behalf of that rant ^ .. Is there anything anyone could/would suggest i do in order to have a better experience with battery? Maybe a different rom that revolves around better battery life? Anything that i am missing to prevent battery from draining so fast? AM I THE ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH THIS?!
Last but not least, what gets me going and makes me want to punch something is the fact that my phone constantly, CONSTANTLY heats up for NO REASON (i'm assuming theres an actual reason but i have no idea what it is). After a full charge, i'd unplug the device and couple mins in after browsing web for like 60 seconds and texting, it'd start burning on the top of the screen and the back where the camera is. What is that all about?
And on behalf of that second rant ^ .. is there a solution for that? AM I THE ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH THIS?! lol
:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Check out what my battery looked like after a few mins from unplugging it. Screen, 67% ??????
Believe it or not... I had a battery go bad already on me. Now i was short charging it and stuff like that.. but still. The early builds weren't as efficient as this one is. You might try a new battery. Or the oem extended one. I have had good luck with both routes. Oh, and i'm stock.
Lots of battery drain and a hot phone means that it's trying to do something. Looking at your screenshot, you're not having any signal problems, which would lead me to believe it's a rogue app. What was your total screen on time during that 48 minutes?

i honestly don't remember, i THINK it was probably 32 mins because thats what i see every time i see the battery that way. If that makes any sense.
Which kernel are you running with that rom? I had a JellyBean rom with a kernel that increased overall, but my phone would often heat up and battery life was not the best. Changed roms and kernel and everything is cool now.

32 minutes of screen on being 29% of your battery. That makes roughly 110 minutes of screen on for the entire battery. Running a stock battery? I never did, but I think people have said 2 hours screen on is the low end for a normal battery. I could be wrong, though.

Or the high end. I got mine as a replacement device for the Droid Charge, so I had to order a battery and back cover when they offered it to me. Since VZW had a 50% off sale on the 2100mAh battery and back, I went with that. So I've literally never used the standard OEM battery with the phone.
Try going to this link: http://minooch.com/franciscofranco/Galaxy Nexus/JB/Jelly Bean/
and downloading "franco.Kernel-r225-384GPU.zip" flash it in recovery like you would a normal rom. Franco's kernel is extremely stable and works magic for good battery life. Should also resolve your overheating issue. If not, I'd suggest a full wipe and installing a different rom.

I normally wipe cache, not sure if it's required. But yeah, it's not a new rom or anything, just different kernel to test out and see if the kernel is what was causing your battery issues.
I'm using the jbsorcery beta with the lean kernel and under clocked with the modded voltage and this is heavy usage on Facebook and texting and about 30 min on the phone I have about 2hrs 45min and im at 80%

Worried about battery life

I am a heavy texter with medium to low wifi usage. Sometimes I play games on my cell (Everlands) & last night I did some chatting.Usually battery last about a day but sometimes it goes down like after 16hrs which is quite low for what I have heard about this phone. Any way to identify the problem is ?
Maybe that is because I did not really charged uninterrupted on the first day due to constant loadshedding here in my city (about 1.5 hr gap in charging). I've heard Better battery stats is a good way of locating draining problems but I couldn't really understand it well enough to use it to my advantage.
Also I have set my brightness to lowest most of the time so thats quite surprising. Also net usage is mostly web browsing, no google maps or auto sync feature enabled as far as I know. Any tips about locating the problem ? Could hard reset possibly solve this issue ? Anyway my phone is less than 1 month old (3 weeks old) so should I consider taking it to service centre & getting battery replaced. Please help.

The battery is calibrating within 3 weeks if the phone is new (5-10 charge cycles) so the problem might not be a real one.
Are you on stock rom, stock kernel?
IF not, do you have kernel with overclock capabilities (titanium kernel, kiss kernel)?

The calibration thing sounds interesting. Everything is on stock. The phone is unrooted though I once thought of rooting it & rebooted the phone in recovery. How much does the battery last for u ? Right now battery has gone from 100 to 86% in 12hrs with somewhat lighter usage. Is this normal ?

I'm having 48% after 10 hours with screen on at 61% but it is like this because i plugged in to my computer last night to put something on the sdcard.
In general your informations are alright, that is a fairly good battery life. Remember that you have a smartphone with gpu and cpu, and it is normal to eat battery even if when you don't play with it because it makes stuff in the background.
The great battery life i got at 3 days with 50% screen on, wifi, calls, sms at 10-15% but not on stock, using CM9/Paranoid Android and tweaked kernel for better battery life .
In conclusion, don't worry about it. Your battery is fine!
If you really want better battery life try flashing a custom kernel like KISS or Titanium and undervolt your CPU.
I managed to undervolt mine alot (-300mV while idle) and battery life increased to almost 3-4days, which is really impressive compared to 1.5days it lasted before.

Its usually 1-1.5 days for me,its always on eater wifi or mobile network.
And i text a lot.Gmail,Whatsapp etc.
Screen is mostly at 70-80%.
As far as i am considered thats good,a lot of phones these days cant even get to 24h.
It works perfectly stable with the following settings:
Clock VDD (mV)
'24576 700'
'61440 700'
'122880 700'
'184320 700'
'192000 700'
'245760 700'
'368640 700'
'768000 850'
'806400 850'
'1024000 950'
Took me about 2 days to find them.
Sadly you cant go any lower then 700mV, seems to be a kernel restriction.

Also, I have 2 stock One V's in the family, rooted but no custom ROMs. Both devices on occasion (once a day at least) appear to be in sleep mode but taking the phone into a completely dark room reveals the backlight is still on (albeit very dim).
This is the only thing I see that's keeping my stock ROM from outstanding battery life. Even as is it get good battery life, but I also double check periodically to make sure the screen really is off.

Root your phone, put kernel titanium kiss, make it with 1.2GHz and smartassV2 cpu governor and than flash with full wipe myOneV 8.0 rom, put display brightness to automatic you will have stunning results.
P.S. make back ups to your data but do not restore it all from recovery

[Q] Any way to Increase battery life?

I'm just wondering if there's any known methods to increase the battery life without sacrificing performance. I know the basic stuff like turning off Gps, Wifi, Data, etc. when not needed but is there anything else I can do to prolong the battery life? I'm currently running the wanam lite rom with trininty's alpha 7b kernel. A couple of people reported great battery life with this combo but I'm only getting a little bit better than stock battery life.

Yeah, The rom is based off of stock H2 and is supposed to have some battery tweaks to make it last longer. All of the people said battery was good using this combo and 1 person said it's been 1 day 16 minutes, and they had 26% left but they didn't post the usage.
Ok this is with the stock rom. Heavy usage by my means any way. It was on the charger for a few mins here and there. But really not enough to show real battery increase.

The best way to determine battery life (not I played a game for a little, surfed the web over 4G, called some, texted all day) is to take a screenshot of your Screen On time, and overall time since charging. Otherwise, your statements are pointless.

Don't use the phone. The screen will almost always be your biggest power draw. Screen-on time is relevant because if you have the screen on for three or four hours you aren't going to see battery life that is any better.

Your right, it is relevant when comparing, but I'm not comparing anything here just looking for tips and tricks. I looked at battery stats when I compared the stock battery to the rom battery and recorded both stats on heavy use. If you want statistics, I got 9h 38m of battery use, internet and netflix took up 31% battery consumption, games took up 23%, phone calls and texting took up 12%, and the other 34% is basically screen off time. These were the stats from when I tested it on the Wanam Lite rom. I'm not confused as to why it only lasts about 9 and a half, hours as you can see I was constantly on the phone when I was testing it.

Well not only were you watching a video (I assume, instead of just browsing) Netflix, you were streaming. That probably did a number on your battery. I know I cannot stream Netflix for very long if I want my phone to last through the day. Also games, things that will ramp up the processor, etc while using the screen will tax your battery more than usual.

Yeah, this isn't my everyday use, nor would I do this if I was trying to maximize my battery life. This was purely for testing the battery life on heavy usage and I found that it was only a little bit better when compared to stock. I'm in no way complaining, I think Wanam has done a amazing job with the rom. The stability is great, speed is comparable to JB roms, and battery is a lot better. Unless used heavily as shown above, then it's only slightly better then stock which is kind of odd but makes sense. I was just wondering what all a person could do to maximize their battery life, that's all.

Other than that, all I can think of is underclocking (I run at 1350), and sometimes overclocking your min-CPU speed can help as well. The thought behind this is is that the CPU will be able to finish tasks faster, even if slightly, and then be able to go back into deep sleep. I know a lot of people on the Galaxy Nexus forums run 700min, 1000max because of this.

Thanks, I actually didn't know that, I also heard undervolting can increase battery life and reduce the battery/phone heating up but someone said that it can it will have a major effect on the CPU, not sure if it's true or not.

[Q] Signs of a Bad Battery?

So, no matter what I do my battery life stays the same regardless of what rom or kernel I'm running. So now I'm wondering if it's my battery, but I'm thinking even if my battery was bad the rom or kernel should have some sort of effect on battery life. Does anyone know if this may be the cause of a bad battery or what else could be the issue, I know for sure it's not the rom or kernel so it has to either be a problem with my phone or battery but I'm not sure which one it is.
Try running a looped video run down test. And report what you get for screen on time.

Yeah, that seems very low, I guess you may have a bad battery, by the way what ROM were you running when you did that test and you did test it from a full charge right?
Yeah I tested from 100%, I'm running Frosty JB v3.0, It's insanely smooth but like the other roms it wasn't able to increase my battery life. So far the only thing that will increase battery life is if I underclock the cpu. Other than that nothing else I've tried works.

Have you tried the Frosty ICS Rom? I know it may not help but it definitely have the best battery life of any ROM I have used.

Yeah I tried it that along with other ics roms and none of them had a positive effect on my battery so I figured if my battery isn't going to increase I might as well use a jellybean rom and take advantage of project butter.

Yeah, sorry I couldn't be of more help. I know for a fact that you should have better battery life though. I'm at 20 percent left with over 4.5 hours of screen time and been off of charge for 15 hours.
It's cool, I appreciate the responses, I'm going to buy a new battery from amazon (possibly an extended one if it doesn't add too much bulk) and hopefully the issue is the battery and not my phone.

I doubt it would be your phone, as long as you follow the directions completely, and wipe everything that you should, it should be the battery's fault.
EDIT: What radio are you using by the way? The stock?
UVLI6, I've also used H2, H3, I5, I7, and I8.

Hmm, alright, so I assume its definitely your battery. Let me know if you end up getting the new battery and your results!
try having the battery completely drain and then fully recharge battery

I've done that about 3-4 times each for every rom and each time I do the battery stays the same, this is my 9 cycle for my current rom and I'm still not noticing any difference in battery life.

I just ordered a new 2100mah from amazon, I'll test it when it gets here and post results.
I honestly don't think your battery life is that terrible. Streaming Netflix destroys your battery regardless of wifi or mobile data, and so does playing a game. Three hours of screen on time isn't that bad, especially considering you watched netflix for two hours and in your screenshot you have no bars of signal, which will also destroy your battery in a hurry.

There are no bars because I turned off data and was using wifi, I agree that netflix drains more than an average video played off the phone but I still think this is horrible. I mean 5 hours total is not something to brag about when your screen on time was only 3 hours, not to mention I underclocked to 1.2ghz to save power and was on the lowest brightness setting.
