Update 1.29 ruins battery life? - HTC One X

Hello everyone
So a couple of days ago I finally got the 1.29 update which I had been eagerly waiting for, however it turned out to actually kind of ruining the battery life on my device, both in standby and when playing games especially. I've had 2 one x's. The first one I returned because it had a battery failure out of the box and the battery life was horrible so i got a new one a few weeks back which has been working great until this stupid 1.29 update. Now the battery is really bad, not horrible like the first one x and nor is it unusable but the battery drains like 30% or 20% quicker than on the 1.28 software. So my question is basically, have anyone else experienced this issue on the newest firmware or is it just me?
Thanks in advance

I think you might have a point re: dimishing battery.
I've had my One X since Tuesday - and so I'm still getting a handle on it.
But I have noticed that today, after doing the update this morning, that my battery seems to be dissipating more quickly than previously.
I have no empirical data to back this observation up however - but whereas before, it seemed to lose little juice when sitting idle, it now seems to be losing more power.
Can't remember what serial number phone I have - but I'm one of the unlucky ones as well who has yellow spots/streak that's visible on white screens.
Mine also seems to run quite hot doing basic tasks.
This arvo, it was running as hot as my old Desire was when doing Google Maps, whilst charging in the car on a trip - and that was just doing a bit of web browsing over a half hour period...

One of the changes in 1.29 was the way the battery stats were reported. Pre 1.29 you be on 99% then suddenly go down to 94% in a second. With the update the battery stats update more often but in slower steps, closer to real battery use.
However, personally i think the battery has got a hell of a lot worse since the initial 1.26 software. I've lost about an hour of screentime since 1.28/1.29 turned up

I definatly seemed to get better battery on 1.26
I said this after the 1.28 OTA update.
But I think even from 1.28, the 2 updates to 1.29 variants have lowered it further.
This is the general feeling I've had.

Same experience for me. Had the phone since release day and the battery was on 1.26.

Wrong forum mate.

Same here.... Both 1.29 are the same for my battery life. And lots of heat also.
1.28 was much better for me.

Im also having this same issue, ive noticed battery is drainingg at least 20% faster. I have the international version and im using it with Claro here in Puerto Rico. But my other concern is that since update, i dont know if it has something to do with the battery also draining faster, but for this last week, it has been getting warmer. While only browsing im on the 45c* wich is ridiculous cause last time i was browsing for like 15 min, i then got a call and i couldnt even put the phone to my ear because it was so hot.

I have purchased many smartphones and this is one of the worst when it comes to battery life. Makes me appreciate the iPhone 4S and my Samsung Note with the 2500 battery it comes with and the fact that one can carry along an extra battery to pop right in when the thing goes out on you which unfortunately can not be done on this device.

Crap. I just updated to 1.29. Hope I had read this post before!

One X battery fix?

Okay so I presume all of you one X power users have noticed a the horrible battery performance. I only got my one x yesterday and I'm already frustrated with the fact that i yet again have to carry my charger around with me. Is there a fix? I have root and custom recovery. So if there is a fix for this please someone let me know.m
Since I flashed the Revolution HD I got excellent battery performance. Without doing too much stuff (just calling and texting), battery remains > 50% at the end of the day. I would really recommend that rom.
I've just flashed it, going to see how it goes. But I would've expected HTC to bang a beast of a battery for the beast of a processor and massive screen its gotta run. Oh well, still early days, hopefully we'll see massive software improvements.

Not really, no. Personally I did not unlock device, neither root it, neither installed any fix. And I must say that I'm more happy with battery life than I was with my previous phone SGS2. More then 16 hours here with 4 accounts synchronization on, 3g/wifi on, and sometimes gps + music on (for Endomondo). I'm really happy with my One X.
ARHD Rom, auto-brightness, plain wallpaper, no haptic feedback, no roaming, managing syncing, and a few other tweaks will leave this devices battery life as one of the best.

Yep. Relax. I got 6 hours from first charge, 10 hours from second charge, 12 hours from third charge...
After over two weeks I'm now getting between 18 and 24 hours. Give it a couple of weeks before judging battery life.

I try to use as much as I can the first few days, and time it so that you have about 10-30% charge left when you reach home from work/school and then I let it charge overnight.
I know quite a lot of time was spent idle, but 60% after 7 and a half hours isn't too bad http://twitter.com/Dev_Meltus/status/194082996767309825/photo/1/large
I've not really had a problem with battery life so far.

Have been seriously contemplating getting the One X.
My first choice had been the Galaxy S3..... but the One X seems the better choice.... I have had the iPhone 4 for almost 2 years, so now it's almost upgrade time If the Galaxy S3 had no physical home button I would be taking it.
Had been worried about the battery life of the one x but after reading these and a few others it seems worth it and it's available in black (dark grey but darker than S3 metallic blue)
I Just hope I don't have issues with app incompatibility for the apps I use on iPhone.
With normal usgae, I've got more than 10 hours after one charge. Not so happy with it but it's good enough for me.

have you got yourself the One X? if so, how is it compared with your previous phone?
i also want to swap my iphone 4 with One X and looking for different experiences especially with the battery life
I've turned everything off and left my phone on idle, my battery issue has persisted for over 6 months now (I bought it in Singapore on release day). With screen on min brightness, static wallpaper, most apps off, my battery drains fully within 6 hours. If I actually do anything with it like make phonecalls, it drains in hours. The battery phone is constantly hot, when on charge It's almost too hot to hold. If while on charge (AC) I use it to make a call, it complains that it's not receiving enough power. Should I look to get a replacement from HTC? I'm still using stock rom so it should be covered under warranty?
Sounds like the htc amaze battery overheat..
Also get gsam battery app.. it will tell you what apps are using what % of battery.
I also use advanced task manager from play store.. it proved to me how much gmaps Facebook and other bloat was ALWAYS RUNNING!.. I got root and froze it all with big improvements
Some of us who htc amaze w no warranty bought a new battery and that fixed it

Aside from your time travel/exaggeration, I suggest better battery stats, finding out what is causing wake lock, and killing.it.
Your phone is fine, but you have some crapware on it.

Battery life issues - warranty repair

Since getting my One X I've experienced pretty shoddy battery life - average screen on time before my phone would die would be around 1.5 hours (usually early afternoon). I'm generally a light user - WhatsApp and Gmail with occasional bits of Pulse news, no games at all, low brightness, Apex launcher (got tired of Sense FCing all the time). One day I didn't use my phone much at all, and I was just outside London all day (probably quite poor signal, but didn't take my phone out to check); when I got home I took my phone out and it was about to die with a screen on time of around 20 minutes. This was the final straw - called HTC and told them that either the battery or GSM radio on my phone was giving me terrible battery life. I suspected the radio also because my phone occasionally has issues finding a signal and establishing a data connection in areas where the signal was always fine on my Desire.
Sent my phone off, UPS tracking says they received the phone at 9am in the morning and they'd finished with it by that afternoon. Got the phone back a day or two later, and noticed that the back cover was new (there used to be a small scratch near the camera lens that had disappeared). Figured they'd replaced the battery, so I plugged it in to the mains without turning it on until it was charged, then ran it down to no battery before charging to full again. I've just finished a day of normal use, and am pleased to report some clear improvements!
Charge: 36%
On battery: 9h 56m
Screen on: 2h 12m
(screenshots I took earlier attached)
However, the top right corner of the screen is now really creaky and feels loose, so I might send it back to tell them to sort it out... and also I'll ask for an actual description of repairs they carried out (I suspect they replaced the battery but I want to know if they did anything else too)! After this I'm hoping to find a custom ROM that gives even better battery life... I've had quite enough of Sense anyway!
(on another note, I think I actually prefer my Desire haha... in the 2-3 days I was using it, on a pre-alpha JB ROM, it felt really responsive and the battery lasted ages despite it being ~3 years old now... not to mention the fact that I can use it with one hand easily! Hopefully JB has the same effect on the One X... although I admit I'm kinda looking forward to sending off the One X again so I have an excuse to use my Desire )

Sounds good, but I don't want to root until HTC have fixed the creaky screen! Does anyone know of a similar AOSP (not Sense) ROM that'll maximise battery performance? Sense has always felt unoptimised to me for some reason.

What's wrong with my One X battery?

I'm close to buying a new phone because the battery life on my One X is HORRENDOUS.
I'm on Viper 3.4. Ever since I upgraded from what I think was 2.7, my battery has taken a massive, massive decline in quality. I flashed AOKP and it was terrible, so I went back to sense and it just...wasn't the same. The standby time WITH wifi and autosync on the old Viper had me losing about 1% per hour, sometimes less.
After going to AOKP and then back, it just hasn't been anywhere near as good. And now that I'm on 3.4, it's just ridiculously bad.
This is my battery life from Friday. I woke up at about 8.45 and unplugged my phone soon afterwards. Used it a bit on the way to work at 10, then I checked it every now and then for new messages, and maybe responded. I finished work at 6. At this point I was below 50% despite barely using the phone at all. On the way home, the battery just completely shat itself and dropped to about 18% by 8pm.
Something else odd I noticed, you know when the phone heats up when you're playing games and stuff? After receiving a phone call that I ignored while I was at work, I could feel the phone becoming extremely hot in my pocket (I didn't even take it out!). Why?!

When you installed Viper again did you installed all the apps back the normal way (by Google Play) or did you used a backup tool to do that? Like TitaniumBackup...
Before asking stupid battery questions, use BBS and find the battery suckers first.

Well I've had similar issue with all the different ROMs and kernels I've used. Even stock without any apps my phone is already at 60% after 3 hours.
BBS and GSam showed nothing that can be resolved.
I have sent my phone for service (I know this is like the last resort), and they say might be mainboard issue. So hopefully that is the case and once it comes back it will be better.
You could do the same.
Look at your awake time. My HOX lasts 3-4 days with low usage and WiFi/Sync always on but my awake time looks nothing like yours. Completely stock.
You should try finding the apps that are causing this with BBS. 2 apps that I have tried and are completely destroying my battery life are Skype and Viber. You can start with Pulse, Snapchat, disabling Google Now and go to Google Maps -> Settings -> Location Settings -> Location reporting -> Do not report. I don't know about the first 2 but according to your screenshot, they might be an issue. The location reporting isn't a massive battery drain but it is a battery drain for sure.
If that does not work, return the phone to factory settings and keep the phone with the minimal amount of applications to see if it is actually a hardware issue before taking it for repairs. I'm guessing that your warranty is void so don't be in a hurry to give money away

I would wipe data and flash the stock boot and rom, without installing all your apps, and see if it makes any difference.
My HOX came back and currently monitoring the replaced battery.
So far so good nearing 2 hours screen time at 70% and before was just 1 hour only.

HTC one m9 overheating and poor battery. True or False?

Hi, i plan to buy the m9 but the overheating and poor battery life problems that i heard kind of keeps me away from it. What's your avg battery life and it's still overheating 8 month after release?
The phone doesn't overheat but it DOES get hot.
Battery life is dependent on how you use it but as a normal phone it lasts a day or two. As a gaming device expect a couple of hours.
It's still one of the best phones out.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I've never had mine get that hot honestly. I did get it more recently so it isn't one of the first batches. It stays cooler than my m8 did honestly. Battery life is definitely worse, though manageable. I can easily get a day out of it, just I can't go as crazy as I could with screen on time on my m8.

not quite. My battery life is very acceptably lasting between 12 - 14 hours normal use (4.5hrs screen on time).
And I have no overheating issues, the phone has never crashed or rebooted due to heat. the only time the heat is even really noticeable is when I just flashed a rom and android is optimizing apps on first boot. For this I just put the phone on a cold pack the duration of the install (it's not like your holding it the whole time)
I have the dot view case on and very rarely notice heat. Battery is perfectly fine, better than my M7 which I had came from. All this is based on being on latest update and firmware. It has vastly improved since launch.
Depends how you define "overheat." It doesn't get so hot that it malfunctions or risks injury. It can get quite hot to the touch, especially if you're charging and doing CPU intensive stuff at the same time. I have had it get hot enough to stop charging quite a few times when I was using and charging at the same time.
Battery life is comparable to other top-end smartphones. 90% of the time I have little trouble getting through the day.
Some people complain about these issues, but it's hard to tell if they're truly experiencing exceptional problems or just suffer from Perfect Phone Syndrome.
When not rooted with custom rom ie out of the box original, its loaded with so much crap from htc after a few weeks of normal use it overheats and the battery life is poor. My guess is that with Cyanogenmod it would fly.
