I'm close to buying a new phone because the battery life on my One X is HORRENDOUS.
I'm on Viper 3.4. Ever since I upgraded from what I think was 2.7, my battery has taken a massive, massive decline in quality. I flashed AOKP and it was terrible, so I went back to sense and it just...wasn't the same. The standby time WITH wifi and autosync on the old Viper had me losing about 1% per hour, sometimes less.
After going to AOKP and then back, it just hasn't been anywhere near as good. And now that I'm on 3.4, it's just ridiculously bad.
This is my battery life from Friday. I woke up at about 8.45 and unplugged my phone soon afterwards. Used it a bit on the way to work at 10, then I checked it every now and then for new messages, and maybe responded. I finished work at 6. At this point I was below 50% despite barely using the phone at all. On the way home, the battery just completely shat itself and dropped to about 18% by 8pm.
Something else odd I noticed, you know when the phone heats up when you're playing games and stuff? After receiving a phone call that I ignored while I was at work, I could feel the phone becoming extremely hot in my pocket (I didn't even take it out!). Why?!

When you installed Viper again did you installed all the apps back the normal way (by Google Play) or did you used a backup tool to do that? Like TitaniumBackup...
Before asking stupid battery questions, use BBS and find the battery suckers first.

AW: What's wrong with my One X battery?
Oh man,why so unkindly? Stupid questions.......
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk 2
Well I've had similar issue with all the different ROMs and kernels I've used. Even stock without any apps my phone is already at 60% after 3 hours.
BBS and GSam showed nothing that can be resolved.
I have sent my phone for service (I know this is like the last resort), and they say might be mainboard issue. So hopefully that is the case and once it comes back it will be better.
You could do the same.
Look at your awake time. My HOX lasts 3-4 days with low usage and WiFi/Sync always on but my awake time looks nothing like yours. Completely stock.
You should try finding the apps that are causing this with BBS. 2 apps that I have tried and are completely destroying my battery life are Skype and Viber. You can start with Pulse, Snapchat, disabling Google Now and go to Google Maps -> Settings -> Location Settings -> Location reporting -> Do not report. I don't know about the first 2 but according to your screenshot, they might be an issue. The location reporting isn't a massive battery drain but it is a battery drain for sure.
If that does not work, return the phone to factory settings and keep the phone with the minimal amount of applications to see if it is actually a hardware issue before taking it for repairs. I'm guessing that your warranty is void so don't be in a hurry to give money away

You did flash the right boot.img in fastboot when swappin roms didnt you?
I would wipe data and flash the stock boot and rom, without installing all your apps, and see if it makes any difference.
My HOX came back and currently monitoring the replaced battery.
So far so good nearing 2 hours screen time at 70% and before was just 1 hour only.

As I posted in another thread:
I am lucky to even get 12 hours with minimal use. No calls, just some texting and maybe browsing my bank website. Screen is always the killer for me, even on 20% brightness. If I go lower the screen actually flickers.
I bought the red HTC Chichitech batteries and they didn't help me at all.
Tried overclocking module, didn't change much.
The only app that ever shows any significant battery use (over 5%) is Maps, when I use maps.

I am rooted, S-OFF, using the Sense Modaco ROM. Battery usage was no better with the Stock Bell Rom before rooting or S-OFF.
My main concern is the screen flickering at low brightness. it's as if it's unable to decide on a specific level of brightness and makes me question if it's actually saving any power.
I set my phone to Auto brightness and I am going to see if that is actually worse of if it's on par with 20%.
Ugh - just realized there is another thread pretty much all about this. I thought it was a different issue. Still, does anyone know if there is a better batch of phones or something? I have a FutureShop warranty so it'd be easy enough for me to replace if it will actually provide a solution
No-one has posted anything, to my knowledge, about a different batch of phones having better battery life. I would check out the other threads about battery life (including those on the G2 side too) and see if you can get yours to last better. But it could just be something faulty on your phone/battery.
Auto-brightness would make it even worse..because there is some type of bug or something that isn't making it function like it should. I was also getting terrible battery life until I followed some of these steps: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life.html
Biggest killers are any widgets that are constantly updating..or facebook/twitter apps that are constantly updating. As well..i recommend SetCPU to underclock your phone when your screen is turned off. This should also help with conserving battery life along with some of the steps provided in that link.

I am considering waiting a month or so and then having mine replaced. Unless I managed to figure something else out. My HTC Legend had better battery life.

The reason I want to try auto or higher brightness is to see if lowering it was actually saving me any battery life. I am curious if there's a driver or display issues that causes it to use the same amount regardless of the setting. So far I don't seem to be running out any faster @ auto than I was at 20%, but it hasn't been a long enough time to tell for sure.
Also I am unable to do the battery tip for the evo because once I turn off the phone and go to charge it again, it's instantly green. But I am going to try it anyway even though it's green.
Since writing the first post I used the OC module to get my phone to 1.2ghz. I have SetCPU set to run on boot with the onDemand setting. I have a profile that says to slow the CPU when the screen is off. From what I've read it doesn't make a ton of difference with this particular phone, but we'll see...

Yep, that's what I found too, when you try and charge it thinks it's already charged and goes green straight away again. But as you said, worth a try.
I just wanted to report back and say that I had my phone replaced. So far so good:
- No screen flicker issue at low brightness
- Battery has lasted nearly 20 hours with moderate-heavy use (played NFS Shift, setup basically everything on the phone after rooting, installed all my apps, backups, flashed some roms, 20+ texts, 3-4 short calls, showing people random apps.)
If it's not all in my head then this is definitely much better now!
Curious. It seems that everyone who reports the screen flickering problem has poor battery life.
Defective displays?
I feel my battery life is pretty bad as well. I've unplugged the phone this morning at 7 AM. Now it's 2 PM, and I'm at 37%. In between, the only things I've done are: send/receive a few emails and chat on gtalk. Brightness is at 40%, animations are turned off, wifi and gps location off. Using latest Cyanogenmod (6.1.1) and have no screen flicker issues
Edit: 17 minutes later, it's now at 27%
How long have you had the phone for?
Initially the first few days I got the phone, battery life was really bad, could drain in a few hours.
After a week or two of use, I now have reasonable battery life, the phone can last all day with light usage and still have lots of juice left. Actually I think if you make a few calls and a few txts, battery could last 2 days. If you play with it, one day for sure but you need to plug in over night.
(if you're talking to me) It's quite new, just picked it up on Friday actually. Also I've kept on researching, and it seems that poor coverage (like I have at work, from 7 til 3) tends to drain the battery even more, since the phone keeps switching between HSPA, 3G, etc.
I had my first one for about a month at least. This replacement was from Saturday.
Today I've had my phone unplugged since 8am, it's 5:30pm and I have 45% battery left, but the screen is the #2 user. Standby is #1 @ 40% of my battery usage, due to over 4 hours of time without a signal. The screen is only 24% and has been on for 48 minutes. Voice calls is #3 at 23% battery usage, with 23mins of calling.
My other phone would have died by now.
Also I spent an hour of streaming bluetooth audio to my car. Bluetooth doesn't even register on the battery usage. I've never seen it use more than 2% and it's always on. I am not sure why people say it uses a lot.
Just want to share my experience.
I too had poor battery life. Stock Bell ROM. Got to 3:00 pm and it used to die. Use this for work. Pushing data all day from Exchange server, bluetooth on all day because I'm in and out of the car, talk on average 30 minutes per day, texting, surfing, tethering, blah blah. Believe it or not, my old Omnia II would get me thru the day no problem.
I was also tempted to return it. But I decided to try a few things. Installed Set CPU and a task killer at the same time. Shut down as many tasks as possible on start up. Widgets and accounts, except Exchange-push, run and sync every hour. I get about 40% battery by dinner. I am happy now .
I'm quite happy with my Desire Z's battery life, It lasts for about 36 hours with moderate use. I have Juicedefender and Ultimatejuice installed, data or wifi are opened only when an app needs data connection, this increased my battery life by 10 hours or sth like that. Nice app.
I had terrible battery life until I went overseas. It is a stock Bell ROM, but I arrived in Spain Monday and am using a Spanish SIM card.
My battery life has increased from 14 hours with Bell's 3G signal to my current 27 hours and 35% remaining battery using GSM and WiFi always on. Funny thing is that no matter where I am it says the screen is by far my biggest power drain.
Where did you buy your Desire Z and how did you get it replaced? I'm with Bell and they would take mine to send out for "repair" but not sure if that will do anything. This will take 3-6 weeks apparently and I'm not sure if they it is worth it.
I'm running 10 hours with that I consider fair usage (few calls, text, map/gsp, and facebook.) My display is the highest battery usage at 60% and on for about 1:45h. I'm very disappointed.
Hey,
it's the same with my G2.
Max 24h.
I've standard ROM installed.
No WiFi.
Brightness to about 30%.
Juice Defender is installed and I'm surfing and just the regular stuff, but even if it's just in standby, it's taking a lot of power (display takes most)
Best!

I bought mine at FutureShop since I didn't think Bell would let me without buying at least a month of service (or being an existing customer). I also purchased FutureShop's extended warranty which is how I was able to get it swapped for a new one so quickly.
I use the extended battery for the evo. Lasts about 1.5 days with ass loads of use. Just have to trim the plastic edges a bit.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I have a couple of those red chichitech batteries but I wasn't able to notice any improvement with the problem phone.
My Desire Z also has a flickering screen at lowest brightness, and with moderate use it dies after about 12 hours max. Even on lowest brightness the screen ueses 59% battery. I rarely manage to make it through the day without having to charge the phone. Im on stock ROM with latest OTA (1.72) btw.
Gonna have it replaced next week just cause of the flickering screen. Has anyone tried the 1700mAH battery from seidio?
I don't know what to make of this, I have researched this and there is a mix reaction, some people are saying Gingerbread has made their battery life amazing, others are saying the story is not too good, well unfortunately I am one of them.
I installed my OTA Gingerbread update as normal. Now, I am lucky to get my phone through half a day's charge. I went to the Cinema today. Before going I made sure my battery was 100% charged. I did the phone-on, charge, phone-off, charge, phone-on, charge, phone-off, charge, phone-on method and i'm appalled to say today's usage has been terrible.
Whilst in the Cinema my phone used 40% of it's battery and I didn't use it once. The Mobile Internet was turned on however Wi-Fi and everything else was turned off. I have also noticed that when taking my phone to school, I may send 2-3 texts a day on it but when I get home i'm lucky to have 20% battery remaining.
Is it a problem with Gingerbread or something? I have had this battery for about 2 months and it was only until I updated to Gingerbread that I have noticed these problems. Because of it I did a factory reset yesterday. It's just annoying because Froyo seemed to do a better job...

If it had this problem it would do several things
1-download from market battery calibrator and do it....
2-see in setting the process that are running for to see if there is any thing that its turned on (games, apk´s etc...)some apk´s drains badly the battery because they don´t close their proccess on android....
3-install some apk that says to you what apk´s are running and what´s the reason for the bad battery drain(spare parts for example)
Since getting my One X I've experienced pretty shoddy battery life - average screen on time before my phone would die would be around 1.5 hours (usually early afternoon). I'm generally a light user - WhatsApp and Gmail with occasional bits of Pulse news, no games at all, low brightness, Apex launcher (got tired of Sense FCing all the time). One day I didn't use my phone much at all, and I was just outside London all day (probably quite poor signal, but didn't take my phone out to check); when I got home I took my phone out and it was about to die with a screen on time of around 20 minutes. This was the final straw - called HTC and told them that either the battery or GSM radio on my phone was giving me terrible battery life. I suspected the radio also because my phone occasionally has issues finding a signal and establishing a data connection in areas where the signal was always fine on my Desire.
Sent my phone off, UPS tracking says they received the phone at 9am in the morning and they'd finished with it by that afternoon. Got the phone back a day or two later, and noticed that the back cover was new (there used to be a small scratch near the camera lens that had disappeared). Figured they'd replaced the battery, so I plugged it in to the mains without turning it on until it was charged, then ran it down to no battery before charging to full again. I've just finished a day of normal use, and am pleased to report some clear improvements!
Charge: 36%
On battery: 9h 56m
Screen on: 2h 12m
(screenshots I took earlier attached)
However, the top right corner of the screen is now really creaky and feels loose, so I might send it back to tell them to sort it out... and also I'll ask for an actual description of repairs they carried out (I suspect they replaced the battery but I want to know if they did anything else too)! After this I'm hoping to find a custom ROM that gives even better battery life... I've had quite enough of Sense anyway!
(on another note, I think I actually prefer my Desire haha... in the 2-3 days I was using it, on a pre-alpha JB ROM, it felt really responsive and the battery lasted ages despite it being ~3 years old now... not to mention the fact that I can use it with one hand easily! Hopefully JB has the same effect on the One X... although I admit I'm kinda looking forward to sending off the One X again so I have an excuse to use my Desire )

Sounds good, but I don't want to root until HTC have fixed the creaky screen! Does anyone know of a similar AOSP (not Sense) ROM that'll maximise battery performance? Sense has always felt unoptimised to me for some reason.

Hey All,
I'm just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this issue. Since upgrading to Lollipop, my Nexus 7 battery loses FAR MORE battery while idle than when I was on KitKat. I was hoping that 5.0.1 would fix this issue, but I seem to be having the same problem. It's entirely unacceptable that I go to sleep with 31% battery, and wake up with the tablet DEAD. I have kept a close eye on Running Applications, and have made sure to close them all before leaving the tablet alone. So much for Project Volta...
Anybody else having a similar experience?
Thanks,
Collin
I'm actually seeing the opposite. On Saturday I had mine plugged in and charged to 100%. I took it off the charger and threw it in my bag, where it sat for about 7-8 hours (drove about 3-4 hours and then it was in my car for a few at a restaurant before bringing it into the hotel), wifi and bluetooth on, but disconnected the entire time. It is in a Poetic smart flip cover so screen was off the entire time.
When I got into the hotel it was still at 100%. Used it for a bit that evening, and again the next day before driving home, and finally used it some more at home, but still had over 50% left before bed.
My battery life is also suspect.

I was one of the Android L developer preview early adopters and the only thing that kept me from switching back to cyanogenmod was the fact that on the last developer preview whenever Flo said the battery was low I was so surprised I felt cheated. The battery life was so good every time it gave me low battery life notification I was shocked because I had forgotten that this thing even has a battery and needs to be charged.
I don't know if this is psychosomatic or what, but it sure doesn't feel like this on 5.0 or 5.01.
Full disclosure: it's reporting 6h 22m of screen on time with 5 hours of battery life left to go, but it sure doesn't feel that way.
The battery settings used to tell me ridiculous things like 6 days of charge left. It doesn't do that anymore.
Right now I'm in the process of discharging it all the way to death. We'll see if that makes a difference.

OTA, OTA with factory reset or img flashing?
Because if you upgrade yours N7 via OTA without factory reset that (and various others) bugs are possible.
My N7 doesnt show idle battery drain (img flashed) or any other bug, so far im very satisfied with 5.0/5.0.1 android.
First off don't close applications this is not Microsoft windows, second use CPUspy and a wakelock detector to see what is preventing your tablet from deep sleeping, third use a system disable app like auto run manager to disable any services necessary, fourth.....profit
^Agreed except for the last part.
Those apps that stop/freeze other apps like the one you mentioned, greenify, anything like that are all bull**** that cause more problems than they claim to fix, IMO.
Flash the factory image. Don't take the ota or keep data when its a major new release.
Battery life is awesome on 5.0.1 never been better.
Android 5.0.1
Default OTA 5.0.1 brings NFC active! When i turned it off, the battery became significantly more durable!
Just try it!

If you disable the 3 common service locks keeping the device from sleeping there have been no problems so far for me on n5 or n7
And yes greenify is worthless autorun manager not so much
^Yeah I see what you're saying. But still I don't like interfering with system apps, well like play services I mean. That can cause problems and battery drain. It really depends on how you use the tablet.
Edit: And obviously like said don't be closing running/cached apps. This isn't Windows 98.

Hey All,
I'm just wondering if anybody else is experiencing this issue.
Thanks,
Collin

Well I fixed it by flashing the unofficial cyanogen mod build for the Nexus 7. Battery life back to 4 days like I'm used to, and no idle drain.
Sent from my precious aka Nexus 7 using xda app. Any errors in the post are caused by auto correct and as such are Larry Page's fault, not mine.
I have the same issue something is keeping mine from sleeping cause its always warm. I used to get 5 days now I only get 3.
