I'm running MrMaddon's Touchwiz ROM on my Galaxy Nexus. It comes with S-Voice installed and I want to try to change the Wake up message but I dont see a menu button to open the settings. Anyone with this same problem and what did you do to fix it?
The galaxy s3 comes with a hardware menu button, so they didn't include the a software one. You could try uninstalling then reinstalling to go through the startup wizard.
How about using something like ButtonSavior to access the menu options?
Thanks for the advice. I tried Button Savior, but I was unable to open up the menu to change the settings. I am skeptical about removing and reinstalling the mod because I dont know how it will affect the changes I've made to my phone (app-wise). I may have to send an email to the app developer. Thanks for the help!!
On ROMs which allow navigation button customization, you will usually finds an option to "always show" the menu button.
In cm9, for example, I pressed on the side button spot and added "menu (always show)". Going back into s voice and pressing this gave me the settings menu.

i can't seem to set my facebook username and password though. Anyone got any ideas? Trying to log in through the settings menu gives me an invalid username or password error.
Thanks, but not working either. Power button on this mod only gives me Shut Down, Airplane Mode, and Silent Mode. On the Facebook piece, is that something that was a side effect of the button mod?
Power button has nothing to do with it; I was talking about navigation bar button customization.
In cm9, I go settings / system / navigation bar.
I used Wug's to root my phone and MrMaddon's addon for the GNex. How do I get to where you made those changes?

Flash a custom rom
Sent from my Gnex {GSM}
So does that mean you're on the stock rom? If so, google for "persistent menu button galaxy nexus" and I'm pretty sure you'll find something to flash.
I personally find using a custom ROM gives me more flexibility.

So, I managed to hack the settings file and get facebook working.
First, you need facebook for Android installed, and you have to have logged in and set your username and password.
Then you need to edit
/data/data/com.vlingo.midas/shared_prefs/com.vlingo.midas_preferences.xml
and basically change three of the lines that contain 'facebook'.
I left
<long name="facebook_expires" value="0" />
unedited, but changed the log in details
<boolean name="facebook_account" value="true" />
<string name="facebook_account_name">[Display Name]</string>
the hard one was the
<string name="facebook_token">[long encrypted sequence of letters and numbers]</string>
which you need to go find from the
/data/data/com.facebook.katana/databases/fb.db
sqlite database.
This is not as hard as it sounds. In adb shell, run
sqlite3 /data/data/com.facebook.katana/databases/fb.db "select value from user_values where name = 'active_session_info';"
And use the value (minus the quotes) which comes after "access_token"
Also, I then grabbed my profile picture from the same sequence (after "pic_square"), and updated
<null name="facebook_picture_url" />
to
<string name="facebook_picture_url"></string>
changing the \/s to / so ... browser.
but it seems to have had no effect.
I was running a MrMaddon's custom ROM, but have changed to CM9, gonna see how this one works. Thanks for all the help!
I think I got it fixed now. Flashed CM9 and then the Touchwiz mod. Seems to work fine, just haven't tried to configure S-Voice yet. We shall see......

This is for those who are on unlimited data plan and annoyed by the download limit reminder on MIUI Roms.
I searched and researched and couldn't find recent information on how to disable that friendly reminder. But finally found it and thought I help save time for others.
Step 1: Open 'Download' (mine was in a folder called 'security center' after flashed)
Step 2: Make sure 'Download via WiFi only' option is unchecked or turnoff
Step 3: Hit menu and go to settings
Step 4: Make sure 'Data download prompt' is also unchecked or turnoff
That's it.

One of the main reasons I went back to PA was because of the mind numbing pop up every time I want to download something off of the internet and download or update an app in the play store.
Thanks Myowin, looks like I'm going to give miui another chance lol.

Issue:
No BT call.
Broken audio in VOIP (viber, skype, teamspeak etc). Tinyalsa would fix that, but it breaks calls.
Mic key (voice search) works, you need to enable: settings -> system -> hardware keys -> enable custom actions (check) and app switch set to voice search.
To get home key logn press action: settings -> system -> hardware keys -> enable custom actions (check) and home key (long press) set to Recent app switcher
When you upgrade, phone app may not work, you must remove the shourtcut, and readd. (thanks scotte9999)
Sometimes it stuck boot logo (cm,samsung, roger), please remove the battery and wait atleast 5 minutes,
Offline charger, you can leave with removing charger and holding power button for 2 sec, and glide will boot.
Liblight works very simple, when your lcd birghtness low buttons and keyboard light is on. You can use qwertyled or other liblight, read more.
Slow storage performance in some apps.

Thanks for the quick reply man, flashing as we speak; haven't updated my ROM in ages Will report back any findings.
edit: Apart from some text to speech crashes, everything's peachy so far
so far so good gooodwork!
flashed, no problem so far (except the known issues). No lag wake or delayed-until-wake SMS seen, but i've just flashed the ROM for 12 hours so I can say that they are reduced, but i'm not sure if they are fixed or not. I prefer the old style quick setting button, but this is good tho
Wow, I was surprised at how functional this was for how new the thread is.Everything I've tried has worked with no issue (basic functions, data, a2dp bluetooth, sd card, wifi, gps). going to try and Wifi tether and actually trying to use the "phone" functins when I get a chance.
One thing so far, I don't think this has been said, is that the recents takes forever to pop up (like 6-7 seconds!). I tried remapping it away from the home button, but it still didn't speed up.
Also, where do I customise those handy shortcuts in the recents? and wtf is a ribbon?
it looks like there's some problem with the WiFi toggling.
Action: pressing the WiFi button on quick setting panel and the quick pulldown menu
Expected result: the button flipped and show the new icon indicate that the WiFi has been turned on
Actual result: the button flipped, but the icon is still the old one (it's the icon when WiFi is off)
I tried going to setting and press the WiFi button, it switched from "Off" to "On" and stayed there for about 10 seconds, then switched bak to "Off" again.
It's pretty rare 'cause I only met this twice after 2 days using, a reboot will solve the problem.

better, but not must.

Bug: when you try to use the navbar widgets, the system UI get crash.

Today I got a lot of "Cell Broadcasts" messages, contents are unreadable (only weird symbols), this ended after a reboot, anyone ?
BTW, when plugin in the charger while the phone is off it displays a charging icon (a circle with a battery), normally it will automatically turns on the phone when the battery reaches - let's say - 15%. But to this ROM it doesn't, I have to do a manual reboot.

yes dear bubor...
I had to flash 4.2.2
4.3 rom after reset stay on rogers logo
Hi all, i've jumped from OOS to CM12.1 and CM13 (and cm13 based roms) for some time, but today i wanted to give another shot to OOS 2.2.0 (and wanted to try boeffla's kernel as CM isn't official yet).
And i remembered why i could not stay on OOS after a few seconds... i really hate the hardware keys setup (recents-home-back).
I'm used to have Menu-Home-Back (and recents access from long press home, or press home from nova launcher).
I've been reading and then learning many things in the past few weeks, so i though i should try to edit those keys just like we did on CM, even if before switching to CM i've looked around and didn't find anything working to change these.
So, here it is.
What you need:
Rooted phone and file manager with root access (there are many but i love FX file explorer, and the root add-on is free).
You need to go to /system/usr/keylayout
Then make a backup of the Generic.kl file (to make it easier i make an archive of it by long press on the file, then archive, but a simple copy and paste will do).
After that, don't forget to unlock the system partition if needed (tap the little lock and accept to open it on fx file explorer).
Open Generic.kl with file editor.
What you need to know is that left key is key number 139, middle one is number 172 and right one is 158.
Functions that can be affected are: MENU HOME BACK APP_SWITCH VOICE_ASSIST.
But for some obscure reason, MENU acts like APP_SWITCH in oxygen OS, so the trick is to replace MENU with MENU VIRTUAL (this will emulate Menu button from on screen navbar, but you don't need to activate the navbar).
So, if you want for example this layout: Menu-Home-Back
You'll need to edit the Generic.kl and replace the Line
key 139 MENU
with
key 139 MENU VIRTUAL
(key 158 BACK and key 172 HOME don't need to change).
Another interesting point is that if you use xposed installer and Gravity Box LP, you can assign different functions to double press or long press on buttons, but it's working only with on screen navbar buttons... you see where i'm trying to get ?
If you modify the generic.kl file and replace MENU with MENU VIRTUAL and BACK with BACK VIRTUAL... then you'll be able to add custom actions with Gravity Box... like the one I really miss, hold back to kill.
I didn't try to replace HOME with HOME VIRTUAL as i can configure long press and double tap home from oxygen OS, but it may work exactly the same if you want something special from Gravity box.
For exemple, my setup is like that:
Menu-home-back
Menu long press => Switch last app
Home long press => Recent apps
Back long press => Kill foreground app
Double Tap Menu => Google Now
Double Tap Home => Screen off
Double Tap Back => Nothing
To sum up, on the phone, keys are:
key 139 - key 172 - key 158
You can affect different general functions to these, like:
MENU
HOME
BACK
APP_SWITCH
VOICE_ASSIST
and maybe more
You can add VIRTUAL behind the function to emulate the on screen navbar buttons (and it seems required for the menu, as it still calls the recent apps in OOS), and then you can add double tap or long press functions with gravity box.
You don't need to enable the navbar to get them working.
I don't know if i've been clear enough, as i'm not used to this kind of things (i wonder if that's not my first thread on XDA...), but i just hope this will be useful to some of you,
have a great day.
[Edit: Forgot to mention you need to reboot the device when it's done]
Great thread. Will test
Got a bit of an issue... I just experimented with this and it was providing very odd results. So, I copied the backup generic file back to the location... restarted the phone. Now, no buttons do anything. There's no way for me to get home so a restart is the only option I have by forcefully turning off the phone. I'm not sure what to do, the file looks absolutely fine. Any help please? I don't know what to do... I don't want to reflash the rom..
If you restored the original file, at the original place, I don't know why this would not get you back...

Yes you can, but the file isn't the same, you should edit:
system/usr/keylayout/synaptics-rmi.kl
If you want to swap keys, simply switch the numbers (139 with 158), it's exactly the same as modifying the functions, but easier to type, especially on a phone.
It doesn't work for me. I added virtual at menu and back. Changed gravitybox back long press and double tap to kill foreground app. Single tap of back still not working.
Have i missed out anything? Oss 2.20 here.

Strange, i'm on OSS 2.2.0-X and it's working perfectly.
Maybe try to activate Master switch under Navigation Bar tweaks in gravity box ?
I'm almost sure this won't help, but you need to write it all in uppercase letters.

I can try to upload my generic.kl file if you want, just to see if it works for you as it does for me (this way we will know if it's this file related or not).
You should have menu-home-recents.
Rename the file (remove the .txt, i could not join a .kl file, invalid).
Maybe check the permissions too.

You should check if A you have a text editor that supports editing in system partition and B if you have root file explorer that supports writing in system partition (and permissions). I would recommend es file explorer, just for this particular task. Afterwards just delete the file explorer.
The easy way is to delete the file in keylayout and write the file (with es file explorer) from OP couple of posts ago in keylayout direction. Reboot and also enable masterswitch in gravitybox. Voila, this method can't go wrong and works always.
I have es explorer and root browser. I am able to change permission too. Also reboot but no effect.
Anyone else tried?

Hi,
Applied without problem, just I can't set double tap action on the Home button.
I don't know why double tap doesn't work just for the home button. No problem with menu or back settings or on long press.
I think that Nova breaks this setup.
My conf :
OOS 2.2X, Xposed 80, Gravity Box 5.3.3, Nova lastest release
Edit : When I revert to the original file, the default setting (Settings > Buttons) Double tap for the Home buton is ignored.
Hi,
I am trying to get multi user feature to work on my HTC 10 because this is not enabled on the version I have (pre-ordered, UK, no carrier).
I rooted the device following this post. Everything went ok.
Using BuildProp Editor I added on my build.prop the following lines:
Code:
fw.max_users=3
fw.show_multiuserui=1
After rebooting I see the option Users on Settings. I go ahead and add new user, it prompts "set up user now?". If I say yes, it switches to a new lock screen. However, when I try to unlock the screen, it says "Unfortunatly, Setup has stopped." with an OK button that when pressed just gives me the same message. No other function is available other then give OK, volume keys and power button. To get out of the message loop I need to reboot phone. After reboot, I see the new user that I tried to create on the list of user but If I try to enter I get the same Setup error.
Has anyone tried this?
I know that similar thing can be done via a Xposed module. But I would like to have this sorted without having to go there for now.
Running rooted 'stock' Android 6.0.1 (1.30.401.1) on HTC 10.
Cheers
--------------------
SOLUTION:
1 ) I edited the build.prop and removed the lines I added to get back to original.
2) I installed Xposed and a module XposedMultiUsersModule. This gave-me again the the Users option on the Settings. But trying to add new user gives the same error on Setup as before.
3) I edited the build.prop. Change the line ro.setupwizard.mode=OPTIONAL to ro.setupwizard.mode=DISABLED.
Then you can add new user and everything will be ok. You just need to add your google account and setting a few things up manually as necessary for your use. I do believe that I could have done the step 3 without steps 1 and 2. But I just don't want to test that now.
So far, no issues with internet connectivity. I'm happy.
Hope it helps!
UPDATE: If one tries Guest instead of creating a New User, you can use it. It even allows you to keep yours application settings and data after reboot. However, I am having lots of problems regarding losing internet connectivity on the the Guest account when I switch back to Owner profile. That is a problem because I would like to have app running on the Guest account that need to be online.
If there was a way to clone another account or bypass the android Setup application I think I could manage to get what I want.
SOLUTION:

Hey Everybody
I have troubles since i clicked a button in my status bar. I removed EVERYTHING from my home and lock screen (i cant even tell witch one i see). There are no Icons at all. only my desktop background is visible and working (animated bubbles). there is no button working except from power button (and its menu to restart). a friend of mine was able to get a screenshot with some button-combination (vol+ + home?)
first: i am not an expert with android, but have a lot of experience in working with Linux shells.
what i have done:
maybe it has something to do with it or not, i don’t know:
i enabled multi view / multi window or extended desktop (sorry i don’t know the name, and as there is nothing shown...)
i opened my status bar and there were some new icons (next to the small watch in the right corner), witch i haven’t seen so far and clicked it. than it opened a "new" screen with only my background.
as i thought it is maybe only a "dead" app i tried to restart my phone. but: there is only that screen working. no PIN question, or something.
i tried to reset dalvic and normal cache. -> no change.
i use RESURRECTION REMIX 5.7.3. on N7100
Recovery TWRP 3.0.2-0 is still working and
i hope somebody can help me to solve my problem without factory resetting. i wont reinstall everything.
thanks a lot
Are you able to restore a TWRP back up? You could try flashing the ROM again without wiping.
theoretically, yes, but i did not have on. so i cannot flash it.
i am searching for an commandline option to change the settings. but i have no clue where to search, and in what files the configuration lies...
