Camera file type change? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Anyway to change the default file type of the camera to JPEG instead of PNG?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

Not on the stock camera. Maybe one from the market. I'm also sure theres some converter apps out there.

I'm confused here. Are we talking about the stock camera app? It's default IS jpeg, not png. Of course that is the extension - not the file type. You can manually change the .jpeg to .png or whatever. In most cases it will open just the same.
Since the question was posed in general (changing saved file type), yes there is a way to change the extension and the file type (the manner in which the data is written and compressed). Of course you need a working knowledge of .smali files, .jar files, and a few other things. There seems to not be much of a point to changing it however, so I and others that have messed with the camera app have just left it alone.

With that, now I'm confused. I don't run a camera app (other than stock).
I'm currently running dazednconfused Fe22 wicked and it, for me, is defaulted to png. I've tried almost all the stock ICS leaks from sf, and again, everytime I've used the camera and wanted to save to my laptop, it was always png. (Probably have 300+ pics)
I first noticed it when i was running The Goodness.
Why I brought the issue up in the first place - I was trying to send a screen cap to the forum on a small odd issue and the XDA mobile ap refused because of the file type.
So that leaves me with one question, why then, am I seeing the pics defaulted to png while running stock camera?
:edit: It may have read that I went back to all the previous ICS leaks and tried confirming - no, I was just saying that over the past few months, I've tried all the one clickers.. just clarifying. ( I have found that I don't put all my thoughts in text.. too much soda)

The screen shots are png's by default. You need a third party screen capture app. I know screenshot ux allows you to choose between jpg and png. It also allows editing of screenshot before saving. Every ROM I've used lately has had png's as screen captures, but camera has always been jpg format.
Sent on HyDrA with S Voice using Tapatalk 2

You can change the save format in smali. decompile the camera apk and search the smali files for PNG and change them to JPG. recomiple and your done.

Hey all,
i'm currently designing a new theme for Sense ui, however i've managed nearly all of it, but when i recolour text input boxes and save them they look fine, however when on the phone they loose all resolution. become blocky and distorted. if i put the original images back, then they return to the original high resolution, how can changing their colour affect there resolution?
any help welcomed/
Luke.
does no one seriously know why? could it be PNG format? any ideas really appreciated.

That happens to all .9.png files!
They need to be patched with draw9patch, which u can find in the sdk tools!
You also must use eclipse to recompile the .9png's after you use the draw9patch tool. Search Google for great tutorials on how to use both.

[Req] FF7 Theme

I know there's already a thread going for this but it got into discussion about which FF everybody liked so I decided to do this and request that any posts just be ideas that people have. I know it's not easy to make these so if somebody ever does... thank you so much in advance
My personal requests:
sephiroth walking through fire pull-down ani
The pulldown ani mentioned above
hp/mp bar battery mod/3g signal strength
ff7 fonts
the menu sounds on clicks
round materia backgrounds in the appdrawer instead of the square ones we have now
any of cloud's limit breaks as boot ani

I totally agree. And sorry for stealing you're thread. Just figured if a themer is searching around, it's better not to have to scrub through pages of banter. No offense intended.
On that, it should include the old midi files for ring tones. Like the battle song, boss song, aeriths theme, victory theme... Things like that

I think I may be able to put together an Animated boot animation of cloud during a limit break from the game or from Advent? How long does it need to be also and what phone do you have?

Got the original midis too and not the many self made spin offs out there.
Hey I wonder if it would be possible to have an animated lock screen of say, lifestream moving around?
Being that the limit breaks were never that long, I'd say the full animation from the game would be perfect.
And this is for Samsung Epic. Not CM7 (saw your signature, just making sure you're aware )

I'll see what I can do! Going to sleep will get back with you tomorrow evening
Omnislash Bootanimation FF7 (game)
Ok, so it's not quite evening yet but I managed to get one out... Because the videos in the game are usually displayed in wide screen format, it will be a little smaller than you might like in order to portray it in portrait mode (phone straight up and down). I've set the default frames per second to 30 but you can change that if you like. I'm not sure how long your boot animation lasts as there are countless variables that decide that. currently, at 30 fps, it should be about 40 seconds. I trimmed this up to get it that small and can trim it more if needed.
In the other file I'm including the sound file that syncs with the animation. It is in mp3 format and could possibly be off sync with your rom and/or settings due to either a slower or faster boot up. Thus, you may need to play with the fps to get it just right. Don't forget that THIS file needs to be extracted.
Now, as far as the animation is concerned, you will need to rename the zip file to whatever your current boot animation file is named. It varies from rom to rom, but it could be botanimation.Zip or vzw_bootanimation.zip, etc. It's going to either be located in the system/media folder, or system/customize/resource.
If you want the audio to work (and this is usually a shot in the dark getting it right) place the extracted mp3 file in the same folder you're dropping the bootanimation file in. You may need to rename it to like, android_audio or something. If most of your system's sound files are not in mp3 format, you may have to convert it to whatever audio format they are in using some sort of sound editor (good luck with that).
Let me know if you have any requests to change this animation and let me know how it works for you!
Oh one more thing.. If you don't want to lose your current botanimation forever, simply rename it to some thing else so my file won't over write it.. Don't forget to change permissions and ownership on the files after you drop them in the folder.

cant convert the .mp3 into .wav
I will do it for you tomorrow or you can do it by using the free computer program I use: Wavepad sound editor. Once installed, you can right click the mp3, click edit, and once the app opens, "save as" and you can select wav. I will upload it tomorrow if you haven't already done it. How is the bootanimation? I had to up my frames to 80 since my phone boots too fast

[Q] De-TouchWizzing MusicPlayer.apk

hello guys,
i want to "de-touchwiz" the music player so i can use it on miui. i managed to merge the twframework styles and colors with the musicplayers' ones and looked for drawables in twframework that are referenced by these and put inside musicplayer. i looked through all the xmls and where i found some "touchwiz:color" or similar i changed it so it points now to the local color/style file not the twframework one
but i got stuck at some points: i have some layout files that refer to frame layout with com.sec.android.touchwiz.widget and inside these touchwiz properties, like for android:id or things like that but touchwiz:twIndexViewHandlePosition and xmlns:touchwiz="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/touchwiz". what should i do with them?
and do i have to change the smali code, too? i guess so but i don't exactly know where to start with it.
thanks very much for your help
-picard
anyone?
-10char
instead of removing those tw attributes, you could try to merge the tw framework into the apk.
Just decompile the frameworks and copy their source folders into the music's app source folder.
that's what i try to do, i copied all referenced images and tw color attributes to the apk, but for these i don't know how to change (i guess i need to make it an android attribute, can i make it by simply merging those from the framework?)
but what is "com.sec.android.touchwiz.widget" referring to? what do i have to merge to my app?
I did not meant resources but code.^^
"com.sec.android.touchwiz.widget" is a class somewhere in one of the tw frameworks.
okay, my bad
trying it
How did you go with this apk? I'm working on the same thing at the moment, I'm interested to know what happened.

I know what you mean, this app is a nightmare - samsung really made sure this apk was bloody difficult to port, I dont know what else to try, I keep having errors and the apk wont start, I think it has something to do with the boot sequence not being the same on AOSP as on a samsung rom, it checks for a certain sequence and if it doesn't see it, the app won't start...

That I am doing. Though I have noticed that sometimes "store" in WinRar compresses by just a few bytes. I made one that was completely not compressed (byte match for stored size versus on drive size). Still not working, so I've ruled that out as being the issue.
I'm attaching a version created by the tool in the link above. It still doesn't work. I have no clue why... still looking for hints.

That looks like it'd be a cool animation. I'll mess with it later when I get home. But at first glance comparing it to other animations I have that work, they are either greyscale or RGB jpgs @ 72dpi. Yours are indexed pngs @ 300dpi. That link says png should be ok, but it says to use RGB. Maybe you could try that next.
Here you go. I converted the images to 72dpi RGB jpgs. I'll still probably try again leaving them as 72dpi RGB pngs, but these animations work now.
I included your original 30fps version, but also slowed it down a bit. I think the 12fps looks good, but unless you have just wiped your dalvik cache, you might not have enough time to see very many blinks. The 21fps version isn't bad, but I think it's still a bit too fast. Tweak the speed to your preference.
These are not flashable, btw, so just copy over with root explorer or whatever.
Has to be renamed sanim.zip to work in GB.

That's not really any help though, Personally I'm not going to install that ROM just to get the Mod ... Is it just the Camera.apk that's modded do you know or are there other files in the ROM that are needed, like libs etc.
Hi,
You will need the media_profiles file also because the two "ImageEncoding quality" lines and the two "ImageDecoding memCap" lines are modified...
In attachment the file from Insertcoin rom, remove the .txt extension...
Thanks to baadnewz for the mod (I hope we can post the files outside its rom,, if not I delete it and all my apologies), credits to him, source is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279766...
thanks Viking, I have no idea what to do with the file you sent, can you explain (I'm no techie at all), so one cannot just add in the 4.2.2 Camera apk to sys/app, (I assume you cannot replace the stock camera.apk with this 4.2.2 one?) So one has to also revise some of the media profiles settings (any idea how to do this)? thanks.
The ideal would be that someday someone could develop a flashable file that just adds the compression settings to the stock camera apk.

Hi,
Meanwhile the zip from AllAboutTheCore() remove the .txt extention from the file I've posted, put in in your "sdcard" then with a file explorer copy it to system/etc and set the correct permissions like this, then reboot and you're good...
Before all make a Nandroid backup!!!
EDIT: same thing for the Camera.apk file, but copy it to system/app set the correct permissions (same as above) then reboot in recovery and wipe dalvik-cache...
if it makes a difference please share the zip, I'm a bit lost with this technical stuff, but love photography hence my request, a stupid question: cant one just edit the media profiles xml of the standard camera apk and adjust all 3 to 100% (image encoding, instead of 70/80/95%), wont that make the photos have less compression?? thanks
EDIT: I tried the above, didnt change any apks or anything, just went to the media profile xml and changed image encoding to 100% for all 3 options (instead of 70/80/95%) kept decoding at 30000... and image size went from 600KB to 1.3 MB (same image), will have to check but with much less compression IQ (detail) should be better I guess
Here it is .. If Baadnewz wants it taking down I will .. I further edited the xml to change both 720p and 1080p recordings to 2 channels instead of 1.
Credited Baad in the zip aswell
http://www1.zippyshare.com/v/72631252/file.html
thanks will try (have you noticed any difference?), if you read my post just before your last one, does what I have done make sense (just kept the original camera apk and change the media profiles xml file?) would that also make the compression less?

Not noticed a difference yet tbh but I'm sat in my bedroom so nothing really to test it on lol .. Yep I understood what you meant, not sure how it works though as if it was a case of changing them all to 100% for the best results, I would have thought that's what Baadnewz would have done but I'm not completely sure

hehe, not sure either but fun to play around, I can say that the file sizes are roughly 40 to 50% bigger now, which means compression is less which should improve IQ (in theory)...
