Hi,
My friend has a MT3GS as a backup phone and he lent it to me to see if I can fix an issue with it.
The phone's touch screen and keys below the screen do not respond to any input. The backlights on the keys still work.
Everything else including the LCD screen, keyboard, power, volume keys still work normally.
Its S-ON running stock 2.1 and its in relatively good condition. I did a factory reset through HBOOT and the issue is still there. Is this common and is it fixable?
Thanks.

It's the flex ribbon. I had to replace the one on my original slide. Easy to fix though, took me around 30 minutes start to finish.

Thanks I just noticed the ribbon was ripped and sticking out above the keyboard. We were trying to figure out what it was. At least we have an answer now.

When I power on the phone the boot screen is fine and the screen you get when holding power and vol down but then any other screen, including clockwork, is all scrambled with different colors and has streaks and is all glitchy to the point where I can't do anything because I can't see what I'm doing.
It started out as a minor thing that would happen mainly when I opened the keyboard(the screen would glitch a little and be off centered) but it would fix by turning the screen of and back on. Now its unusable.
I booted the phone holding power and down vol and cleared storage but that didn't fix anything.
Is the phone bricked?
Same thing happened to my sons slide and it ended up being his flex cable, had to replace it.

It connects the LCD screen to the motherboard in the phone. I picked one up for 35.00 and followed a video of how to replace it and it has been fine since.

Hmmm i wonder if it's worth it to fix. I upgraded to a Sensation and was going to sell the mytouch on ebay or something but probably can't get very much for it.
hey,
I had a problem a few days ago where some parts of my touch screen (near the home, menu, etc. buttons) started to not work. and today when I woke up, the whole screen is not working. It seems to respond every now and then, but barely.
I'm assuming this to be a hardware problem, but I am not sure. Anybody had a similar problem before? disassembly would be my last resort, how should I go about fixing this? Thanks.
I have the same problem. about a half inch band across the very bottom of the screen. Weird thing is sometimes the whole screen will become unresponsive (if it stays on for too long) then turning the screen off and on and unlocking the phone makes it go away for a while. The digitizer glass in my phone seems to need replacing. I've scoped a replacement out online (don't have the link) for about 30 bucks. there are also many assembly/disassembly videos for the phone. Looks like it will take a lot to get the digitizer out.
I was having the same problem... Just replaced the digitizer and still have the same issues... anyone have an idea?
I have a similar problem but with the soft keyboard. It becomes unresponsive very often..tried many roms and diff softkeyboards but the ptoblem still there

Ok so my touchscreen has been acting up as of a few minutes ago. Its starting to only work when the keyboard opens. So i thought hey maybe its just a software issue with the xm-7 rom, but then when i went to clockworkmod recovery, the trackpad doesnt work at all, not even when clicked. I've been treating this phone very well, even the condition looks nearly brand new, so what could have happened?
edit: my touchscreen somehow works again, but my trackpad no longer works. It has no function at all in clockworkmod recovery (no scrolling or clicking). When in the android UI, the trackpad only works to wake up the phone, the scrolling does not work at all. This is very strange and i cant tell whether this is a softwar or hardware issue.
I had this issue right before my slide died. Probably the ribbon cable. All of my front buttons stopped working entirely, the only thing that did work was trackpad scrolling. Eventually the screen went out as well. It might be just partially disconnecting somewhere, only enough to where the digitizer and trackpad sensor are being affected. That's the only thing I can think of. If it doesn't work in recovery, definitely a hardware issue.
Thanks, I figured it was a hardware issue. I'm gonna take the phone apart and see what I can do since my 1 yr warranty with this phone is up.

Hi everyone,
My phone seems convinced that I'm pressing the volume down key occasionally, but I'm not.
I'll miss calls, the battery will be emptied faster as the screen keeps coming on, and it has prevented me from being able to boot the phone.
It's not physically stuck, and I've even now just replaced the main board flex cable part.
edit2: I think the power key is also being "pressed" since the screen is coming one, but the volume isn't being changed. So I'm now thinking I replaced the wrong part maybe. So confused.
There's a chance of some water damage, through rain and sweat (after using it to record my runs), but it's not been dunked in beer or any of the usual causes.
Is there anything else physical that I might be able to fix (or just wiggle)?
Is it possible this is a software issue somehow?
Any advice will be much appreciated, this is so far beyond any warranty I'll do anything.
(edit: I have seen the other similar questions, but none had an answer)
Are you sure this is a hardware problem? Have you tried factory reset? Install a new ROM may be..
Am certain.
Anyway, it's too late, now sold (as faulty) on ebay.

Same issue was with me when my desire fell in some water. Optical joy pad was broken..... I got it replaced and phone was normal again.......the faulty joy pad was sending unknown signals which were being interpreted as volume down.......and also, whenever I pressed power button once or twice, phone restarted...... It was all fixed after the repair....

Hello Everyone,
I dropped my White SPH-L710 yesterday which I was using on page plus. It has no scratches, cracks or dents on the glass, however, there is no display and no touch functionality.
When I receive the call, I can hear it ring and everything but cannot answer because the touch isn't working. The screen is dark so there is no display either. Physically it looks fine but I suspect the LCD is a goner. Any help on what I can do to fix this thing. No insurance or warranty here. I'd rather not spend a lot of money on this.
Thanks in advance for the inputs.
I believe this happened to me one time when I had my epic. I freaked for an hour... Then decided to try and Odin a stock tar... Fixed it. If your phone is ringing and working it means your display is jacked. I'm sure there is little you can do. Hopefully you have insurance.
Try to Odin... But attempt to get your phone into download mode using your memory. Volume down + home button + power button.... Wait 5 seconds, press volume up. You should then be good to go. Only advice I have.

Thanks for the inputs.
@RealTic
I tried that. The display is dead, I can't see anything when booting up, or in the recovery, or in the download mode.
@Speedin07si
I was thinking of ordering this and trying to work on it myself. Can you point me to the thread, and let me know if this is the right thing to order given the description of my problem. Thanks, much appreciated.

Search how to take it apart, and check for loose ribbons. If everything looks good then purchase a new one.

@csmasn
Thanks. I opened it up and checked everything and it did not help. So I guess the only way to fix it is to buy the LCD and digitizer.
This might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzFU_8kYDdw&list=PLCvcbJqO8a2335FcP8CKfA_IvIWlHv4VH&index=1
