Galaxy SIII eye movement screen on for Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

SIII has a feature that tracks eye movement to keep the screen on while you read. This is the only feature it has that i wish my Nexus had. Anyone know if this is an apk or app that can be ported to the Nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

Believe it has a sensor that is used that the nexus does not. I am not positive on this though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

If we can get a full dump from a GSIII we can port it, assuming of course it doesn't require touchwiz libs/framework/etc.
Also have to get it to work with our front facing camera.

I think so too but otoh if working properly and efficiently it should save on the button usage and should save on a quicker screen off since screens are the battery munchers. And so far initial reviews say the gs3 is great on battery and many reviewers like the feature. If the gs3 had software buttons i would be an early adopter. Oh well. More nexus for me.

Download Screebl from the Play Store. Keeps your screen on if it detects the phone is being used at various angles. Much better than killing your battery with an always on sensor or camera.

Not really. I've read somewhere that the way it works is that it snaps a pic with front camera just before the screen turns off and uses the same face detection the face unlock does.

Not to mention that it requires the sensors to stay active at all times, even when screen is off.

Basically, it uses the phone's gyroscope to detect how the phone is being held in order to keep the screen on. It's a very good app.

I didn't say I didn't know that. It uses the gyroscope which is far less of a battery hog than having a camera constantly tracking your eyes.

You're holding it wrong.
Yeah I can drain the battery with the best of them, but to achieve the above, I have to seriously tax the device and I would EXPECT the battery life to suck under those conditions.
Way to attribute a fault in one device to all of them.
This phone has great battery life. YOUR phone however, probably facked. However, if you're interesting in fixing this dilemma rather than *****ing and blaming the phone, maybe you can get some interest from this forum.
FWIW, I just bought a new Galaxy Nexus (HSPA+) to replace my Nexus One and the battery life is better. I go a full day and still have 50-65% left. I was worried because my friend had the LTE version from Verizon and his battery life was horrible (his would die in the afternoon / evening). I wonder if the LTE version has poorer battery performance?

Yeah, thats how it is all the time on my Galaxy nexus too,. I always have like 20% brightness and when you are in a dark room, you see the lines all the time and its annoying.
i don't know about nexus 4, Google has a bad track record of good displays. and not accurate color temperatures.
When I first got my gnex I kept the brightness really low. Then I thought to myself, "I bought a nice phone; it has a REALLY nice screen when the brightness is turned up all the way...why keep it low?".
Since then it's on FULL brightness and I've never looked back! Takes a couple of days for you to get used to the brightness though :^) (Yes I know it decreases battery life but it's worth it -- give it a try).

Red light... IR or Proximity Sensor?

I have an AT&T Galaxy S3, the I747, which is currently running the 5/10 build of PAC-Man, the 5/9 build of the KT747 kernel, and task650's 5/8 gapps. I dropped it about a month and a half ago, shattered the screen, and had to replace it. A quirk to this is that I had to replace it with a screen from a Sprint Galaxy S3, the L710. After I replaced the screen, on Friday, I flashed to the stuff I'm running right now. Yesterday (Sunday), I noticed that the sensor directly to the right of the front-facing speaker is lit up with a very faint red color at all times while my phone is on. I have done a little searching, and from what I can find, everyone is attributing this to Viber, which I don't use.
It's this one:

My proximity sensor and light sensor are working fine still, but my main concerns are battery life and longevity. Is this light being on going to either hurt my sensor in the long run or create unnecessary drain on my battery, and if either is the case, what do I do about it?
I noticed mine was on one day while i was in bed, just rebooted and haven't had it since. I don't see why it would need to read data from the proximity sensor unless your on a call or so it shouldn't drain battery . if your in the SMS app then it might be using it for direct dial but I'm not sure if you have that feature in pacman

Try a program called greenify. It will tell you which programs are causing wake locks and what is using the most battery.
Hi, I used to have Viber installed, until I noticed that dot I didn't relate it. It made me panic so I went through my apps 1 by 1 and found viber to be the one keeping it always on even when its not running. If you don't have Viber, go to your installed apps page, go to downloaded tab and force close each one. If the red dot is persistent then its another app. Keep going until its gone and you'll find the culprit.
Have a good day.
