So after Sony announced that ICS will not be coming to the PLAY I decided to install CM9 but I can't figure out a way to get into fastboot.
I remember getting into fastboot when rooting my phone but I forgot how.....
I looked up the issue online but nothing really worked out.
I've tried holding down the search button and plugging in the usb but there is no blue light!
btw I have an Xperia Play from att unlocked and rooted with R800a rom(Global firmware 2.3.4).
U using flashtool? Is yoir phone powered off? Are you even sure you looked this up?

Maybe this is already answered in between a stream of comments but it happened to me too. (I flashed 2.3.3 R800a in a R800i then updated via OTA then got flash mode only and no fastboot).
If you unlocked using SONY's method (fastboot oem unlock 0x...), and then reflashed using SEUS or MediaGo, even FlashTool then updated via OTA or the formers, and after that you get flash mode only (green light, back button pressed when powering) then you should try flashing this, as original firmware checks for unlocked BL before booting and disables fastboot if unlocked.
After that you can still re-unlock BL.
Good Luck!

Hello,I'm new to this, and I can't seem to flash any file, especially a kernel using flashtool.I've installled my drivers, including Flashtool from DooMLorD and other relevant files, and when I want to flash a kernel, all I get is "ERROR:device needs to be rooted" in every attempt of flashing a kernel, even though I've already rooted using the ZergRush method. What am I missing here?I even tried flashing Kieran's DarkForest kernel without success.
You need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom kernels.

Thanks but I've decided to relock my bootloader after countless problems.Looks like I'll have to stick to SEMC for now just to be on the safe side.
im on the same boat as you i want to relock my bootloader but im not sure if i can and i dont want to try until i can get an answer. i unlocked it using the sony ericson website. can i relock it using flashtool?
Yeah you can relock with blagus' .ftf using flashtool. But I don't see why you would want to relock the bootloader

Agreed I totally loved it when it was unlocked and running on Kieran's DarkForest's kernel and ROM but the performance of the phone, especially when playing music and other media, just got worse with stuttering and all and my phone bricked,so luckily for me I found a way to relock it and reinstall the official firmware. As much as I want to unlock it,its safer to go with stock,in my opinion.

Really?I've been having force closing issues from SE's apps like eventstream and all those since I've unlocked my bootloader and from there it got incredibly worse with audio issues and stuff. And one thing though, when I unlock my bootloader, should the phone be switched off cuz all those issues came up when my phone was on.

Unlocking the bootloader doesn't cause any if those issues you described you probably installed a crappy Rom, I use stock Rom and install a kernel it's all really stable then. Unlocking the bootloader causes the phone to lose DRM which stops facebook likes and stock track id (new one is usable) and also prevents official updating (Until you relock the bootloader again)

Yeah the official updating really helps for me since its the easiest to use for unbricking my phone, which is why I was hesitant on unlocking it again.Last time round it nearly hard bricked my phone after a bad flash(probably).Plus I couldn't even connect to SE PC companion when it was unlocked.

i was rooted but im thinking i did not have the bootloader unlocked. so after installing clockwork i tried to install a rom, it sat for over 25 min and no prgress. i pulled the battery and thats where it all came crashing down. now i have a phone stuck at se logo. anyone know the steps to revert to stock again?
also once i get back to stock i need to really get a good step by step. maybe its me but rooting and unlocking the bootloader on this phone seems confusing.
how can i tell if the bootloader is locked or not?
thanks for the help in advance...

Find your phone's ftf file - Should be here somewhere - and flash that with FlashTool. I've had to reflash my Verizon R800x multiple times due to dumb mistakes, that should take care of it.

when you say find the file...do you mean within that program? or somewhere on the forum? also do i have to do the us version or can i go global? global would be better right?
update: flashed a world generic ftf file and now im left with a black screen. not booting up. also, tried rebooting the phone and the flashlight turns on lol but nothing else!
I'm guessing you have the ATT version, see the if R800a ftf files work. I found this link on google for the R800a: http://www.mediafire.com/?l1a5xbp9wa73f0a

If you have something else, especially r800x, i have no hope for you

Um, not necessarily. My boot loader is locked. You can flash stock ftf files on a locked boot loader, but you can't flash unsigned kernels (DoomKernel, DarkForest, etc.)
When I try to boot it up (using the power button of course), the LED above the USB connection place flashes green, and the phone vibrates once and does nothing.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I found the issue; can't use SEUS after you unlock the bootloader. Thanks anyways! All I did was flash a rom that relocked my bootloader (?? don't know the terms), and then run SEUS again.
you cant relock a bootloader with a rom.. you need help fro this thread. download a ftf firmware and flash t using flashtool so that the phone boots p and then check the bootloader status .....later depending on it, flash a custom kernel and rom (optional though recommended)

Whoops, guess I meant I flashed an FTF... lol. Something I found on YouTube.
But yeah, I've run into another problem; while rooting the phone (using this guide over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957), I think I've bricked my phone again. I didn't enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources, so it got stuck at Daemon Started Successfully. Haven't been able to boot into my phone since. Sorry if this problem has been solved before, wasn't able to find the solution while searching that thread.'
EDIT: ...sorry again, managed to stumble my way through and revive my phone.

Hi there.
The other day, I flashed the stock ICS firmware onto my phone. I installed this with no problems. Once I had it all set up, I was notified that there was a firmware update available. After downloading this and pressing install, my phone proceeded to stop working. If I take out the battery, and then put it back in and plug my phone in, FLASHTOOL says it is in flash mode. I have tried flashing on the same ICS firmware and stock GB firmware and it will still not work. Any ideas?
EDIT: I have solved this issue. Take a look at this thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358 Keep looking for a working download link in the thread. I promise you will find one eventually. The multiupload ones WILL NOT work.

Update Service with an unlocked bootloader is a bad idea.
Try this.

Official flashtool to go back to stock rom.
And as the guy above told you, SEUS on unlocked bootloader is a bad thing.

Dude,
As the others have said you cannot install FXP CM10 on a device with a locked bootloader.
As such your device will not boot, your options are to either.
1) use flashtool to flash a stock rom - instuctions how to use flashtool can be found on the forum
2) use Sony update service to flash back to stock - This is the easier option, but all your data will be wiped.
Once the device will boot up, if you still want to use FXP roms then unlock the bootloader first, or try a rom for locked bootloaders.
Either of the above should work for you.

At least you show others, do not flash custom ROM if it's only for unlocked bootloader.
If you have locked bootloader you can't flash custom kernel and you will stuck in bootloop.
