So it seems that Sammy has released ICS stock for SGS3 and SGS2. I'm hoping that this makes it to all versions or at least we can use the base to slap together something for us here. Long shot, but you can always hope....

That's pretty cool! If they don't don't do that for us, it must be because of Sprints request.
Read the articles, not just the headlines. It is stock touchwiz.

Well technically the Epic touch is still on Gingerbread so I don't think they would be able to port to our phone yet.
Once the source is released a good developer could build a stock AOSP ICS ROM for our phone...
It would be nice to start from a un-modified Android ROM so that we could have something similar to CM9 with tweaks specific for only the E4GT.

I totally agree with you on ICS based ROMs are buggy and laggy. I've tried a few now and I haven't really been blown away with ICS so far. And I agree with the need for an official build for our ET4G's.
But I don't think it's Samsung's fault totally, I'd almost place most of the blame on Sprint. The international GS2's have their ICS update, and we all know to well that the ET4G's update to ICS is being worked on and tweeted by Sprint. A good portion of our ICS custom ROMs come from Sprints development and leeks, so it's there.
Sprints got a few new ICS devices out like the new Nexus and EVO. Plus more in the works for this summer, mainly the GS3. I always feel that most of the "feet dragging" on updates are done by the carriers. Why would they be concerned with updating last year's hardware, it only costs them money. When they could focus on selling us the next big thing with all the new bells and whistles and make some money. But hey that's just my opinion on the it.
For my money I'm sticking with 2.3.6... I've been running a stock, rooted, debloated rom as well as the stock kernel and modem for the last few weeks now and loving it. Using GoLauncherEX as my launcher I get no lag, and haven't had to deal with any lockups, random restarts or apps not working right or not at all.
Updates are always going to be an issue... I remember the wait for Froyo, it finally came out and most of us were disappointed with it. Then the wait for Gingerbread started... It fixed a lot of issues, but over the last year or so with the release of 2.3 and it's minor updates Gingerbread has become very stable and fast. Especially on devices like our ET4G'S, Gingerbread was originally written for lower spec devices so... On a device that's capable of running ICS it runs like a dream. But again that's just my opinion.

Are you talking about the Galaxy Nexus on the left? In the case of Galaxy phones, Samsung will never release a plain ICS version w/o touchwiz. Just gotta wait for kernel source and aosp rom developers to mess with it.

Would be a hard sell to a dev.
Essentially you would be asking "Can you waste your time porting an older OS to my phone that not many people will use, will provide no real benefits, and will require back porting drivers?"
Now if it did come out it would be cool (choices are nice) but I four it will come out.

The dev would also have to create some software buttons, as they're not present in gingerbread.
Would be cool though. Some people may prefer pre-ICS.

Yes just fun.
I sometimes wonder if maybe ics is what slows down this amazing phone.
I also wonder (cause many people compare the gnex with the s2 and say s2 is faster) I know the processors are a difference but not that huge of a difference so I wonder if gingerbread is what's keeping the s2 faster for or noticeably faster then the gnex with pics I wonder if ics will slow down the s2 as well. Idk just thoughts just fun.

ICS slowing down the GN? what?
Gingerbread isn't even optimized for multi-core phones.
gnexus has to run faster with ics.
I believe ics is made for the galaxy nexus. to this specific device. therefore ics should definitely be faster.
putting gingerbread on this would be hard cause we only have on-screen buttons.
and you don't see people putting 2.2(froyo) or 2.1 or even below 1.6 on
devices like gsII. razr. rezound.
why put gingerbread on gnex? it would just be cool but not useful in anyway

So your ROM post in Development http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837624 and cannot WAIT for this to be uploaded.
I've been bouncing between various stock roms, CM9 Nightlies, and CM10 Preview but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. Based on the screenies you posted it looks like this ROM might fill the gap, to a tee. Since you asked here is what would be a dream rom for me:
LG1 or latest released firmware (the leaked modem doesn't look stable yet).
AT&T fully debloated (All useless).
Samsung Email replaced with ICS Email (with exchange policy bypass).
Samsung MMS replaced with ICS MMS (for the Emoji support).
Either S Planner or ICS calendar so long as it functions with S Voice.
Either Samsung Dialer/Contacts or ICS so long as it functions with S Voice.
Samsung Camera Intact as it's one of the best things about the phone in my opinion.
Samsung S Voice intact (It has it's usefulness).
Samsung S Memo intact (Why not?).
ICS Holo Themeing where ever possible/convenient (Love how clean CM9 looks).
Tethering/Hotspot Enabled (A must for any custom ROM).
Google Now couldn't hurt (Probably overkill with S Voice intact but what good is 2GB of memory if your not gonna use it, right?).
Stock Lock screen replaced with ICS Lock Screen.
International Boot Animation
15 toggle mod couldn't hurt.
Extended Power Menu (Another must for any ROM, right?)
ICS Keyboard installed (After years of iphone usage I cannot deal with no double space period insertion)
ICS or JB sounds would rock.
I think that's it, LOL.
The closest I have come to this is my current configuration which is WanamLite v1.2 with Samsung email/mms replaced with ICS versions following instructions found on xda. Then I use Nova Launcher in place of default home and WidgetLocker for my lockscreen. It's the closest I have ever been to the list above but your ROM looks like it might just be perfection.
I was actually thinking about learning how to build a custom ROM just to get the exact ROM that I would like. I still may just for fun but its looking like you might have already taken care of it. Thanks for your hard work and looking forward to trying it out!
Dude, I'm in Austin.... would love to get ahold of your ROM.... PM me.

touchwiz mod or rom? Most of the earlier touchwiz roms didn't come with a kernal which is one reason it made it so it wouldn't boot after coming from cm9 which does install an aosp kernal
Odin will overwrite the recovery/kernal/system but not data.

CM10 is pretty stable atm. Nightly builds started already. I stopped having problems since the 8/10 build with dirty flashes. I might just go back to stock once JB is out though. I do miss a lot of thr gesture features and the camera!

The jb leak is awesome, makes touchwiz a lot better. Im actually not going to use a different launcher this time.

Just like the title says, it can be a gb/ics/jb rom, doesn't matter.
What's the rom that keeps you running back?
What's been the most reliable/fastest rom?
For me personally I have to say CM10 because I love JB. Coming in at a close second would be the Blu Kuban.
Aaaaand go....
I really liked Codename JB rom but the battery life wasn't good enough for everyday use. I know I will be back on that rom soon. In the meantime I have been on a vanilla aosp ICS rom for the past few weeks. Longest I have been on anything.

I love cm10/p.a. but battery life isn't all that great .. 1. Would have to be calks 3.0 gb then 2. cm9.. they are both pretty stable imho

I've only had my phone since the ICS update....is a GB rom worth switching back to for battery/data speeds/general stability? If so, which one would you recommend? Just the stock EL29?

I certainly apologize. I have not seen this other thread you speak of. Furthermore, next time I create any kind of post I will tirelessly search for a same/similar one.
CNA for a JB rom
Universe rom, and currently ReTurN oF ThE LivinG ReJeCTz for a ICS rom
ReTurN oF ThE LivinG ReJeCTz is sweet because it has EVERY THING..... google now, samsung voice, JB lock screen........ GREAT ROM!

gingerbread is just way out dated as far as support/looks/ bells and whistles... but wat it lacks in looks it makes up with battery and stability.. everything works and you can't go wrong with it... but its just a rom I keep on my SD card cuz it will always work no matter wat..

Looks like the download link is bad. I've tried 3 times and they won't flash. The first one have me boot loop and the next 2 wouldn't even flash.

I don't really think this is a support thread for specific roms, however I'll try it now and report back.
Edit: Booted it up no problem.

What I meant was another thread like this, there have been several threads that were similar that have been closed. Everyone has their own opinion, yours will be different, millage may vary, blah blah blah.
No offense to you in any way, I just don't see this lasting long.

CM and MIUI have been my goto roms for any phone that's been supported. Of the 2 though, I'm partial to MIUI. Love the style of it (with ADW Ex launcher) and the customization.
