I am looking for something to connect my S2 up to the TV so I can play games.
I have an aftermarket MHL adapter which cost me £10. I regret this because for an extra £10 added on I could of got the offical but anyway...
Which would I be better off with?
Docking station with HDMI port or Offical MHL adapter?
I also want to be able to put the phone on landscape and I don't think it is possible with the docking station i found.
Docking station is round about £10-£30
Mate through docking station you cant play any games..as you have to hold the phone in hand while playing games...so go for the official MHL..i bought one and now i can play asphalt 6 on my big LCD..cheers

I just received notification that my pre-ordered speaker dock has been shipped out. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow to play with on the weekend.
I plan to put the speaker dock in the kitchen to use as a clock radio-esque type device (with the ability to do other fun Xoom stuff).
After reading a little bit more about the speaker dock I noticed that it has an HDMI out port. Form the picture on the Moto website it looks like a standard HDMI port and not the mini one that's one the actual xoom.
What I'm curious about though is whether the standard dock also has this port. I'm OK shelling out another $50 for another dock I can put near my TV. I don't quite understand why only the speaker version would have one (but I guess if you want to connect it to a monitor with HDMI in) but connecting it to the TV/Receiver you typically already have a better sound system so having HDMI out on the standard dock at least makes sense.
tldr; Does the Xoom speaker dock come with a standard sized HDMI out port? Does anyone know if the Xoom standard dock comes with an HDMI out port?
The HD speaker dock has a micro HDMI on the back. Its the same connection that the xoom itself has. The regular charging dock does not have a HDMI plug at all. The stupid part is that the sound is routes through HDMI when plugged into a monitor or TV. I have a monitor without built in speakers so no sound plays when I plug it in. I have to plug a 3.5mm headphone adapter into my speakers to get sound.

Motorola said that there is no sound through HDMI on the xoom, but only on the speaker dock.
Sad seeing them do a last second money grab on their product

There is. I connected my Xoom to my monitor, and all the sound went through my monitors speakers.
interesting, I must of been misinformed.
Well that's a plus, can't wait for my micro hdmi to come in

That's how HDMI works, it transfers HD video and sound on the one cable.
How much does an HDMI cable cost?

Depends on a lot of things, where you buy, how long, etc.
If you go to your local Best Buy you will spend $30+ for a short cable.
I have purchased them from monoprice.com for $7 for a 15' cable. Works great.
How can I put it on my TV =P
yes, it supports HDMI out via the Micro usb on the bottom of the device. You just need a micro usb to hdmi adapter.
where can I get one?
I think that there may be some on amazon. I am interested in this answer.

hdmi
I looked also, it needs an MHL adaptor. Found one on monoprice.com about $15.00 shipped.
Its a micro usb to hdmi, it also has a connector for charging while streaming all those flix to your big screen.
Yes there's an MHL adapter available online. If you want to wait as well, among the docks that are coming out for the GN there will be one that charges as well as supports a full 19 pin HDMI cable. But I imagine that won't be coming out til after Christmas.

There are several for car docks, but I didn't see any for desktop docks. I don't want to spend the $90 on the pogo dock for the Galaxy Nexus, so I'm wanting to know what's the best alternative? I want something that has an mhl port that can be used for mirroring and charging port. I don't care about a headphone jack too much.
Does anyone know if there is a MHL to VGA adapter that works with the SIII? I have an older monitor that I'd like to use with my phone. I'm not really concerned about sound.

The only MHL cable that exists so far is the official Samsung HDMI.
So if you desperate to do that you'll have to spend about $30 on the cable and I don't know how much for a HDMI to VGA converter box.
You've no chance just now. Maybe some day!
Do any non Samsung on ones from ebay work ?

No.
This is my problem also since I never know when I will have to connect to my phone to an old analog projector to make a presentation.
If your monitor has dvi then you can get a hdmi/dvi coupler which very cheap. A hdmi to VGA converter is about $38 from monoprice.
I'm thinking of experimenting and getting the mhl to get hdmi, a hdmi to dvi coupler, then a dvi to VGA coupler. The couplers are all less than $3 and I have to buy the mhl adapter anyway.
Good luck to us!

in theory, that should work fine, but what is your plan for audio?
Just go straight for the HDMI to VGA converter because that has the audio out and gonna be more use than DVI.

Just use a pin jack to RCA left/right and plug to headphone jack. Arrgh, too many cables to bring around. At least with my iPod or iPad I can just bring their dock to hdmi adapter or dock to RCA adapter video/audio.

$38 is a bit too much for something that I may use two or three times a year. If my "daisy chaining" couplers/adapters doesn't work then I'll just have to bring my iPad as backup.

Is there a dock that charges and does hdmi out? Thinking this would be cool to play emulators or GTA on my big screen, paired with a wiimote or ps3 controller
To connect to the a TV you will need an MHL to HDMI adapter like this. I'm not sure if it charges at the same time, but it should, being that it connects via the USB port on the phone. If you search around the web, you'll definitely find much affordable deals. Cheers!

at least, if not charge, it maintains the charge level.
from your link:
The HDTV Smart Adapter supports HD signals up to 1080p. Connects directly to a standard HDMI cable for easy connectivity to home theater or monitor. Requires power from a wall charger. Can connect directly to your MHL-Enabled mobile phone to create an HDMI docking station. Requires wall charger (sold separately) to power the adapter while in use. (HDMI cable not included)”

You cannot connect more than one USB cable to your phone, so unfortunately that is not possible. Which controller exactly do you need to connect to your phone?
If by any chance you are planning to use a PS3 controller, pairing it with your phone through Bluetooth and using the Six Axis Controller app is the best way to go.
Edit: In that way, you will still be able to connect the phone to your TV via the MHL cable
if you hsve a frys electronics in your town, they have this item for $24. WORKS WELL.
