Does the SGN have any kind of HDMI out? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

How can I put it on my TV =P

yes, it supports HDMI out via the Micro usb on the bottom of the device. You just need a micro usb to hdmi adapter.

where can I get one?

I think that there may be some on amazon. I am interested in this answer.

hdmi
I looked also, it needs an MHL adaptor. Found one on monoprice.com about $15.00 shipped.
Its a micro usb to hdmi, it also has a connector for charging while streaming all those flix to your big screen.

Yes there's an MHL adapter available online. If you want to wait as well, among the docks that are coming out for the GN there will be one that charges as well as supports a full 19 pin HDMI cable. But I imagine that won't be coming out til after Christmas.

MHL HDMI Adapter and USB OTG Simultatneously

Has anyone tried using a Micro USB OTG adapter and MHL HDMI adapter at the same time? Is it even possible?
Thinking of watching movies off of an external drive on my HDTV with the GN. I may just have to stream them from my computer over WiFi.
Cheers

Yeah! Is it possible?
I ordered all components yesterday to test this exact thing. I will report back with my findings. I ordered the mhl adapter, HDMI cable, and the otg cable. I already have a micro SD reader that's extremely small. Total cost was $30 on amazon.... I also ordered a wii sensor bar that was around 6 bis. I'm also going to attempt to integrate the otg cable in a case. Pics will follow

I think that isn't possible. Both MHL and USB OTG uses the same microusb port, but behind that there are different circuits. Depending on wich connector you plug in the hardware will know if you are connecting an usb or a HDMI.
More, the microusb on MHL connector is only for ac supply.

From what ive read, it is not possible. Youre disabling usb to get hdmi function through 4 wires. And that function needs power.

Since I'll be using them either way. It doesn't hurt to try.

MHL and OTG
@justin94, please report back if you get it working. Actually, if you can get OTG to work at all with or without MHL let us know. I've gotten the MHL to work. But I need to connect some USB devices up, and from what I've read, the current Nexus stock firmware doesn't support OTG/Host.
Also, what OTG cable did you order? I've heard there are ones that don't work?
waiting for an answer.
Just got confirmation of shipment the mhl adapter and HDMI cable. No estimated deliver date as of yet. Have patience people.

NO NAO~! lol. j/k
MHL will only charge the phone via USB. You can't use USB data. Bluetooth is your only option for external hardware input (controllers, etc... but not thumb drives)
I don't want to rain on your parade, but I said it would charge your phone at the same time, but it's limited to 500ma. Nexus reports as USB charging, not AC charging. So if you intend to watch a long movie and game real hard via emulation and bluetooth, your phone will run out of battery.
Another poor design decision. They should have just put a HDMI port separately. MHL fail.
The only saving grace will be using the pogo pins to charge the phone via AC so you can get 1A charging while using MHL.
MHL fail.
Update!!!
Just received the mhl adapter and HDMI cable. Its plug and play, however, it does require power..... so my hopes of getting this to work are almost over..... except that I fairly good with electronics. So I'm going to do some splicing and dicing and see what works.
Don't worry, if it works I will post a full tutorial

Just got the otg cable. Tested and works with stick mount. Later on tonight I will try to get them working simultaneously

anxious to know how it works out. I've got the MHL and HDMI. It works but when I pulled the usb power the MHL went lights out so it may only be for power source. but you never know.

Sorry everyone. Due to some family issues I have really had time to sit down with array of electronics to try and make this work. Hopefully I can get to it before this weekend

Justin94,
How do you plan to plug the MHL/HDMI adapter and USB OTG into the the GNex since it has one usb port. This has baffled my mind.
Some type of splitter configuration.

There's different ports of micro hdmi?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Micro HDMI is just a tiny HDMI snapped the same pretty much needs an actual port. Mhl is the only way it works for yhe sgs2

I know there's two hdmi cables for phones, there's a micro hdmi and a mini hdmi but since the s2 uses a micro usb port, then the micro hdmi should work right?
Well, I just received my micro hdmi for my SGSII and it is not working. I connected it to my TV and laptop and it is a fail. Tried to go the cheaper route but am gonna end up spending more in the long run because now I have a micro hdmi that is useless to me
Thats the one I was thinking of the mini I have one and it doesn't fit haha it Wade for my g2x

You can only use the MHL adapter for HDMI output, Micro HDMI is a totally different port and everything.
completely unrelated but i was wondering why when using MHL on our phones, surround sound does not work. im guessing its hdmi 1 format?
I read a few comments regarding some mhl adaptors. Some say plug the power source first then the tv then the phone. And others say you may need to change the HDMI cable. Just try different combinations and try a different tv.

thanks i will try that. it cant be the hdmi cable, because its the same one i use for xbox and i get surround sound from there.

Question Regarding USB/Hub and HDTV?

Is it possible to connect the S3 to a USB hub via a micro usb to female usb port.
Then connect a usb power supply to Port 1 and on Port 2 connect it to a HDTV.
Will this work properly?
Edit:
Nvm, just did some more reading and found out that the MHL adapter has a micro usb port for charging the device at the same time.

but as I might use it for a film or something longer than 10minutes I would like to keep it charging at the same time.
Monoprice has the micro usb to hdmi for $11. I buy a ton of stuff from them and have never had any problems with any of their products.
FYI. The only MHL adapter that works with the Galaxy S III right now is the one from Samsung. Model EPL-3FHUBEGSTA ($40). It has a 11 pin micro USB connector compared to the 5 pins on all other MHL Adapters. There is also a 5 pin to 11 pin adapter ($10) that will make the older MHL adapters work with the SGS III. Model EPL-FU10BEGSTA.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I did not know and I almost ordered that from Monoprice. I guess I will have to wait because I and not paying $40 for that adapter.

Buy the old adapter for 11 and the new adapter for the adapter for 10. It works now for only 21 dollars instead of 40. :good:

I don't have an old adaptor, so instead of getting an adapter for an adapter (whoaaaa) I'll just wait for the chinese ebay knockoff that works.

MHL (connect phone to tv)?

So I have read over multiple threads but I couldn't find a clear answer.
I want to buy an MHL adapter so I can connect my phone to my TV via a HDMI, which adapter is recommended? Which one actually works?
Which pin adapter is best? a 5 pin adapter or 11 pin adapter?
Sent from my LG-LS970
I'm using the same 10 dollar MHL adapter that I bought for my Epic 4G Touch. It works but for some reason some TV's have a slow jerky output from the LG but not the E4GT. I don't use it to often though so no biggie since smart share works great with my iMito MX1.
An 11 pin adapter is only needed if you're plugging up a Galaxy S3 or Note 2 to your TV. Samsung's charging ports on its newer devices are 11 pin and won't work with 5 pin MHL cables. Our LGOG will work fine with a 5 pin cable.

The adapter I purchased, works great, and has addition cable length to be able to sit on the couch away from your TV. Just search in ebay, "4M MHL Micro USB" there are a bunch for cheap, just make sure you find a US seller or else you wont get your cable till sometime in June hah

MHL to HDMI Question...

I've seen some other posts about this topic, but I have yet to find a clear answer. What MHL to HDMI adapter works best for the T-mobile SGH-T999? I would like to stream Netflix to my HDTV. Is it safe to go with the Samsung brand or is there a different brand just as good? Any input is appreciated. Thanks..

I bought Samsung mhl worked first day never worked again. The parts inside became very loose... there is a thread somewhere with a bunch of people saying it doesn't work along with other brands. Who knows maybe you could get lucky!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I've had good success with Monoprice's MHL adapter and it's just $10, as opposed to the $40 Samsung wants. You do need the 11-to-5 adapter for it though.
One thing to note : If your HDTV doesn't have MHL support, you need to attach a charger to the MHL adapter to power it (that's what the female micro usb port on it is for). Took me an hour to figure that out when I first bought it.
Ordered the adapter
