Hello,
My music player doesn't detect the new music I copied from my pc to my sdcard.
If I open the music player I only see the old music, but not the new music I recently copied to my mobile.
I already delete "data" by going to Settings/Apps and rebooted my mobile multiple times, but it still doesn't detect my new music.
I put the new music files to /music on my card, like the other files and the files aren't broken or sth like that. Normal mp3 files with id3 tags.
Can someone help me?
I'm running the latest CM9 on my Wildfire S.
What music app is that? Is that the one that comes in the ROM?
I suggest you try Apollo or the Google Play music app.
I'm using the stock cm9 music app,
already tried apollo and googlemusic app but without any success
I have the same problem on the Alpha1. Is it a bug? The sd card not reindexing media files after a remount from the PC?
aah, good to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem here
yes, I'm running the alpha1, too.
maybe you are right *se-nsei. and it's a bug.
Any idea how to fix it?
I'm really get tired of listening to the same music over and over again
I have no problem with that im using google play.
Fc when im using stock cm9 music but the problem its not about music library.

Try this app
for a temporary fix use this app! It worked for me!
Rescan SD Card!
The "rescan sd" app works. I think its a good solution for now. I hope it will be fixed with the next Update. Hope that the ums bug will be fixed soon, too.
Thanks for your answers guys
I think Dev Tools has a media scanner that you can run which SHOULD update the music library and gallery but haven't tested that with music on cm9 yet (Worked on cm7).
Solution is here !!!!!!!!!!!!

Use root explorer and go here data/data/com.android.provider.media/databases.
Delete all files with "external" name in database folder. Restart your phone and a new database will be created base on your SDcard (music) content. will take some little time for the creating of new database, so be cool..
thanks for the tip dude.but m not rooted.m on stock froyo.
You need to root the phone. Quite easy though..
Step applied the same on froyo or even gingerbread.

Me too. I had same issue
found a way.go to settings>applications>manage apps>all.now find media storage and clear the data.then reboot n enjoy.
The gallery detects no images and the music player finds no music. I have many folders full of images and "music" folder filled with music. ES file manager can detect and view/play image-/music files.
I recently installed the latets version CM9 and I have never had this issue before. Third party music apps are also unabe to detect music. Factory reset does not help. Deleting cache and data in settings does not help. There is no issue with .nomedia files.
Don't know what to do really. Any answer is greatly appreciated.

Its very obvious!
If reflashing doesnt work, try putting all the music files in the root of the sd card and not in folders as you did now!

Horrible option. Makes the whole "hierarchical filesystem"-thing pointless, and the SD-Card looking extremely confused (I like having a /sdcard/music/ folder, and even more folders in that. And camera also saves pictures to subfolders of /sdcard/.). There has to be another way. On my GNex CM9 doesn't have this problem, so it isn't ROM-related, and Gingerbread isn't making this trouble, too. Just as a start to exclude options on the "why".
(But, yes, I've tried that with one file, and it works. For people interested in shabby workaround and not in real fix it'll probably do the trick. (Except for (camera) pictures. Camera saves in /sdcard/DCIM/blabla. No way to change that.))

I'm gonna try putting 1 mp3 file on root and delete any .nomedia file too see if it works, if not I'll reflash.
Same with gallery, it can't hurt..
By the way I noticed the gallery shows pictures taken after I deleted the ROM but if I place old photos in that same folder they don't show up...
Thanks for all the answers
PS. I did full wipe before installing the ROM and will wipe everything again..
dammit I ****ed up, did wipe and didn't root again so when I flashed the ROM it didn't boot. Flashing 2.3.4 Stock FTF file now. Thanks anyway.
Just FYI: Putting files to the root of /sdcard is not a longterm solution, after reboot they don't show up again. Niether clearing Media Storage's data nor wiping cache nor dalvik cache, nor fixing permissions works as a solution. That is really f*cked up.
Edit: No changes in ongoing nightlies on that. Hopefully: Yet. But I wouldn't bet on it.
SOLVED!
This is not a ROM problem! It could happen to anyone using ROM Manager!
How-to fix:
1. Download and install the latest ROM Manager APK from their website.
2. Delete the .nomedia file in /sdcard/android/data/ (ROM Manager 5.0.1.3 put a bad one there, the new version will be good).
3. Clear the data for Media Storage in Settings > Apps.
4. Reboot.
5. Wait. Re-indexing can need a while.
Credits go to the guys from the awesome Galaxy Nexus forum. Especially to Dragn4rce for creating this thread and kyokeun1234 for pointing out aboves easier solution.

Was this a question? If yes: Yes, the solution is exactly the same across devices.
After full wipe I flashed latest beta and pics aren't shown in gallery and also I'm unable to pick mp3 as a ringtone.
I've done the trick with mix player and it doesn't help.
Can someone help me with this?

Check for the file named “.nomedia” (without quotes) in the root folder of your SD card. This file tells media scanner not to search for media in this folder and its subfolders. If you find this file in the root directory then simply delete it. The issue is caused probably by newest ROM manager. Some users report that this file is recreated after reboot. In this case I would temporary downgrade the ROM Manager to older version. Hit the THANKS button if I helped you
I also have the same issue. There's no stray ".nomedia" that I can find in my SD card. Logcat entries contain no related error message.
If you use MXPlayer, in settings there is an option about .nomedia. Diasble it. Sometimes that cause this kind of problems.
Try Wiping Dalvik and fix permissions
Clearing cache, dalvik cache and fixing permissions don't work. Strange thing is that newly captured screenshots and photos appear in the Gallery app right away. The disappearance apply just to the existing images and music files in built-in Gallery and Music app. Third-party image browsing apps like QuickPic are behaving correctly (showing all images, respecting .nomedia on selected folders appropriately.) Third-party music players (Google Play Music, Winamp, etc.) however can't find any music tracks, behaving exactly like the original Music app. Bumping so that yozgatg might take a look.
Alternatively you can use QuickPic and set up included folders manually.

Didn't work. I've tried both fixing permissions from CWM and from ROM Toolbox Lite. I don't think this is a temporary problem that can be resolved by clearing cache and fixing permissions. For images there are plenty of alternative apps that can be used, but it's currently a dead end trying to list music tracks
COPY ALL SDCARD FILES TO A PC FORMAT THE SD CARD AND COPY BACK ONLY THE IMPOTANT FOLDERS LIKE ANDROID AND THOSE CONTAINING THE PICTURES AND MUSIC FILE LEAVE THE REST
HIT THANKS IF IT HELPED:good::laugh:

Hello people!
I am having problem with my HTC One V. My phone was working fine but all of a sudden it's gallery is showing "No photos or Videos found" and the Music player is also not scanning any music files. But the fiiles are shown in the ES file explorer.
My phone is not rooted, and neither did I install any app recently. Ya but connected my phone to my laptop.
This problem has occured quite a few times earlier also, but used to rectify on its own in a day. But now it is pissing me off, it's been a week.
Tried restarting, removing the storage card etc. But won't help.
Please help!

No, it won't delete your files... it just cleared your data/thumbnails and rebuild them. I think this will help your music player too. You can do the same for Music player - settings - apps - all - music - clear data

Yep, everything is on the ad card. I can access it from the file explorer.
I am wondering if I should backup my data and then format my phone.
It is showing up one more problem, I cannot download a single app from the play store. It shows downloading, and downloading and nothing moves on.
EDIT: If I format my phone, I can download all my paid apps again because they are linked to ny google account, right ?
I once had the exact problem ..but Im not able to remember because I'm becoming old ......
This may work
Move all your stuff on your sd card to your pc
Format your sd card and put em back again .....
Maybe the problem is with the sd card
Just WAIT FOR A OTA UPDATE it will fix the bug ,I had that problem too

And what about the data in apps, such as in Notes Lite I have a number of important notes, and it wont even perform a backup
Then don't do a reset just wait until it gets solved by itself ...but if that didn't work ....reset
If u don't have patience do this...move all the data to the pc as in images and all....reboot phone browse gallery
So that the cache is built
Then.move the images back ,reboot browse and try...

Are you downloading to your computer and your phone is connected via USB? If so, download it to a folder on your computer, then drag and drop it into the folder you want it to be in on the phone.

This worked perfectly for me. Let me know if you have any questions or help getting it working. Basically it uses root explorer to create a symlink. Note that the directions will actually delete you google music cache and offline music. So you'll have to recache/download everything. If you don't want to do that you can always copy the files folder to the sd card, then do the clear data, and then create the symlink. Let me know if you need more precise help.

Thanks. It starts to download music then says cant download right now. Any ideas why? The link is created properly.
This whole time it has been getting stuck on a couple songs, currupted files I would assume. All is well now.
So just for reference if I flssh a new rom and create the link I wont have to redownload it all?

How fast is your card? I am using the Sandisk Ultra UHS-I 64gb and had no problems downloading any music. I am unsure why you are getting the error downloading files. When you go into Music and click on 'choose on device music', do you see the free space for your external SD card? If you do it should have worked properly. I've read in other forums that they recommend that you don't let your screen go to sleep when music is downloading. Maybe that's it? I also had this weird bug where music would kind freak out if I started playing a song and then pressed the home button to do other things while listening to music. Like when I went back into the Music app to fast forward, the album art disappeared and the music scroll bar froze. What I ended up doing is rebooting the phone. And that resolved my issue. Maybe a reboot will help you with the downloading problem?
And you are correct, if you flash a new rom, and make the link before you open google music, you shouldn't have to redownload. At least this is my understanding of it. I have yet to try. As soon as Cleanrom w/ Multiwindow comes out, I am going to try it, so i will let you know then. If that doesn't work I have a theory that I will try. Basically, making a link of the entire com.google.android.music folder in the data/data directory. Maybe that will be better cuz there are other files besides the files folder that is created. It's just that the music files are stored there. but it looks like other important files are in there like the database files and others. I have a feeling that I'm gonna need to do this to prevent having to download each time I flash a new rom. I will keep you posted.

As it turns out, I was right. You need to symlink the entire com.google.android.music fold for it to survive rom flashes. Just symlinking the files folder does save the music files to your external sd card but other needed files like database and what not are still on the internal card and therefore flashing a new rom deletes those essential files. So try symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder. It worked for me and if you flash a new rom remember to remake the symlink before opening Google Music.
*EDIT*
It appears symlinking the entire com.google.android.music folder only worked temporarily. After a while I noticed my Play Music app just disspeared from my drawer. I had to delete the symlink and copy the folder back over to my internal storage and reboot to get it to come back. Hmm. I think the only thing you can really do is symlink the files folder only so that way the large music files do get saved to your external storage. And anytime you decide you want to reflash your phone, make sure you backup the com.google.android.music folder before you do so. Then flash your rom. Copy that folder back to your internal storage and recreate the symlink for your files folder. That should do the trick.
