Problem with gallery and music in Gen.Y B5 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After full wipe I flashed latest beta and pics aren't shown in gallery and also I'm unable to pick mp3 as a ringtone.
I've done the trick with mix player and it doesn't help.
Can someone help me with this?

Check for the file named “.nomedia” (without quotes) in the root folder of your SD card. This file tells media scanner not to search for media in this folder and its subfolders. If you find this file in the root directory then simply delete it. The issue is caused probably by newest ROM manager. Some users report that this file is recreated after reboot. In this case I would temporary downgrade the ROM Manager to older version. Hit the THANKS button if I helped you

I also have the same issue. There's no stray ".nomedia" that I can find in my SD card. Logcat entries contain no related error message.

If you use MXPlayer, in settings there is an option about .nomedia. Diasble it. Sometimes that cause this kind of problems.

Try Wiping Dalvik and fix permissions

Clearing cache, dalvik cache and fixing permissions don't work. Strange thing is that newly captured screenshots and photos appear in the Gallery app right away. The disappearance apply just to the existing images and music files in built-in Gallery and Music app. Third-party image browsing apps like QuickPic are behaving correctly (showing all images, respecting .nomedia on selected folders appropriately.) Third-party music players (Google Play Music, Winamp, etc.) however can't find any music tracks, behaving exactly like the original Music app. Bumping so that yozgatg might take a look.

Alternatively you can use QuickPic and set up included folders manually.

If u can specificly fix permission on an app, that would be media storage, try rom toolbox..

Didn't work. I've tried both fixing permissions from CWM and from ROM Toolbox Lite. I don't think this is a temporary problem that can be resolved by clearing cache and fixing permissions. For images there are plenty of alternative apps that can be used, but it's currently a dead end trying to list music tracks

COPY ALL SDCARD FILES TO A PC FORMAT THE SD CARD AND COPY BACK ONLY THE IMPOTANT FOLDERS LIKE ANDROID AND THOSE CONTAINING THE PICTURES AND MUSIC FILE LEAVE THE REST
HIT THANKS IF IT HELPED:good::laugh:

I have this problem too. On over ROM (jelly bean) .

Guys, I found the solution posted here (from the Galaxy Note sub-forum) works for me today. All music tracks and pictures are back :good: Give it a try! Credit goes to matius44 on that thread.
Edit: AFAIK, the steps listed in this fix apply to ICS only. I haven't tried it in a JB build yet.

No. Not workng for me. CM10 JB HTC DESIRE Z.

[Q] add mp3 ringtones

Ih everybody!
I've some problems to add new ringtone to my desire..
I flashed the new oxigen 2.0 rom (gigerbread) and there isn't a lot of choice for ringtones, alarms, ... so I would add some mp3 but..
I tried whit several apps (ringdroid, ringtone editor, ...) and I can't find my mp3 on the sdcard (i tried to put it in /sdcard , in /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones, in /sdcard/music(/audio)/ringtones, in /sdcard/ringtones and some others way). I also tried whit .ogg files but nothing.
I ask to google and find some tips, but they didn't work neither..
someone know how can I do it?
thanks
cya
No need of an app to do that : if you copy your audio files in /sdcard/media/audio/(alarms, notifications or ringtones), they will normally be usable the same way as the ones in /system/media/audio/(alarms, notifications or ringtones)
It works for me on Desire under Oxygen 2.0 RC7.
I also tried this way, but it did not work..

From the native music player you can set it as ringtone.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I tried that way as soon as I saw your post, but it did not work neither..
Actually I find out that I can't add music on the music player.. I don't know why.. I also tried to set as ringtone mp3 and ogg files from astro file manager, I can see the menu option, but I can't select the option!
I think about it and maybe I did a mess when I restore my backup whit mybackup pro (I restore also home config and settings who comes from another rom).. now I'm trying to reflash the rom and I will see...
erase sd card?
Nope.. I reflashed oxygen, and now I'm trying redux, and I still have this problem..
obviously the problem come from my desire, probably form my sdcard, but I don't know what I can do to fix that things..
I also noticed last night that I've a similar problem with the image gallery, the app can't find any image on my sd card, but I've a lot of it..
If I erase my sd card (backing up data apps) can I just put it back in the phone or there is things to do?

phone not showing pics in galleries or playing sounds in apps although file are on SD

Hi all.
Today started a weird problem on my desire (running RSK rom). I have to say that nothing was changed or done to the phone for at least a week other than updates for downloaded apps. Suddenly the galleries (the htc one and the android one) and music programs like winamp or even the gmail and phone don't play the ringtones or music. BUT... the files are still on the SD card and are even working with the same apps like the winamp and galleries if I browse the SD card and pick the file and choose to show or play it. So what the heck is wrong? The files are not corrupted and the access to the SD card is possible through the phone itself.
I tried using SDRefresh or whatever it is called (the SD card refresh app) and it didn't help.
Any advice?
Have you tried this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tristarapps.tools.galleryrefresh
Or maybe delete data and cache for gallery in manage apps. Otherwise backup data and reflash the rom.

It is fixed. As it seem, ROM manager had a bug that placrd nomedia or nodata (forgot the name) in the parent directory when it updated. They fixed the bug and released an update. I deleted the file and everything is back to normal.
thanks for trying to help!

Gallery+Music not working on CM9

The gallery detects no images and the music player finds no music. I have many folders full of images and "music" folder filled with music. ES file manager can detect and view/play image-/music files.
I recently installed the latets version CM9 and I have never had this issue before. Third party music apps are also unabe to detect music. Factory reset does not help. Deleting cache and data in settings does not help. There is no issue with .nomedia files.
Don't know what to do really. Any answer is greatly appreciated.
re-flash the rom

Its very obvious!
If reflashing doesnt work, try putting all the music files in the root of the sd card and not in folders as you did now!

Horrible option. Makes the whole "hierarchical filesystem"-thing pointless, and the SD-Card looking extremely confused (I like having a /sdcard/music/ folder, and even more folders in that. And camera also saves pictures to subfolders of /sdcard/.). There has to be another way. On my GNex CM9 doesn't have this problem, so it isn't ROM-related, and Gingerbread isn't making this trouble, too. Just as a start to exclude options on the "why".
(But, yes, I've tried that with one file, and it works. For people interested in shabby workaround and not in real fix it'll probably do the trick. (Except for (camera) pictures. Camera saves in /sdcard/DCIM/blabla. No way to change that.))

I'm gonna try putting 1 mp3 file on root and delete any .nomedia file too see if it works, if not I'll reflash.
Same with gallery, it can't hurt..
By the way I noticed the gallery shows pictures taken after I deleted the ROM but if I place old photos in that same folder they don't show up...
Thanks for all the answers
PS. I did full wipe before installing the ROM and will wipe everything again..
dammit I ****ed up, did wipe and didn't root again so when I flashed the ROM it didn't boot. Flashing 2.3.4 Stock FTF file now. Thanks anyway.
Just FYI: Putting files to the root of /sdcard is not a longterm solution, after reboot they don't show up again. Niether clearing Media Storage's data nor wiping cache nor dalvik cache, nor fixing permissions works as a solution. That is really f*cked up.
Edit: No changes in ongoing nightlies on that. Hopefully: Yet. But I wouldn't bet on it.
SOLVED!
This is not a ROM problem! It could happen to anyone using ROM Manager!
How-to fix:
1. Download and install the latest ROM Manager APK from their website.
2. Delete the .nomedia file in /sdcard/android/data/ (ROM Manager 5.0.1.3 put a bad one there, the new version will be good).
3. Clear the data for Media Storage in Settings > Apps.
4. Reboot.
5. Wait. Re-indexing can need a while.
Credits go to the guys from the awesome Galaxy Nexus forum. Especially to Dragn4rce for creating this thread and kyokeun1234 for pointing out aboves easier solution.

[Q] Jellybean Rom installed - Gallery does not display older pics

I just installed the latest Jellybean Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605016
And everything works great (with exception to the camera issues they identified as a known issue). One thing is irking me though. My old pics are not displaying.
I tried doing the recommended steps in this thread with no luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1862523
I would post to either of these two threads but alas, my permissions do not allow.
I appreciate any feedback or solution to this issue.
There's various steps in various posts in that thread, which did you try?
I know either ROM Manager and/or ClockworkMOD Recovery had a .nomedia issue in the past so, make sure both are updated if you use them (or uninstall them if you don't). Additionally, most ROMs have a "rescan media" function (no clue where it is in JB but, it was in Dev Tools in GB).

The steps near the end
Update -
After clearing cache/data of gallery and media storage and rebooting, Gallery ran its scan for some time and now it is showing all images. So, that's the solution.

I just uninstalled Rom Manager but it is still on my phone (it was part of the ROM that I installed).
I also tried to re-update with no luck.
Also noteworthy, when I take a new picture it shows in the gallery. When I use file explorer to browse to the location the new image is stored I can verify that it is in the same folder as all of the other pics that for some reason are not showing up.
I am trying the suggestions here now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786721&page=3
There is no .noimage file in the root of my phone. I then cleared cache and dalvik / fix permissions. I have forced gallery closed and cleared all data both in gallery and in media storage, reboot the phone.
No luck yet.
Your ROM is CM based, you should have an app called Dev Tools; run that and select Media Scanner and let it run; otherwise try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascanner

Thank you for this feedback. I have tried both Dev Tools and Media Scanner. It did not have any effect.
Would the quantity of images and videos have an effect? I have a lot? I doubt it but I am running out of ideas. I appreciate any other feedback. Thank you.
Maybe you have some corrupted image or video on your SD card.
Try to backup all your media files on your computer. Then erase all media files on SD card and add only one picture. Check if the gallery is working. If this picture is there, then you have to find which file is causing the issue.
Add all media files to SD card in some small steps. For example if you have 1000 images, add only first 100 of them. Check if the gallery is working. If it’s working, add next 100 images. If the gallery stops working, remove last 100 images and add only 50. And so on, you get the idea. This way you can identify the corrupted file(s).
PS: Maybe you are wondering why I hit your ”thanks” button That was only a mistake
So I removed all pics and vids and a funny thing happened. It picked up pics in two folders within the DCIM folder. I tried adding a hundred pics back to the camera folder and nothing. I deleted all but a video and nothing. I will test more when my son goes to bed. So weird.

How about putting a .nomedia file in the cache dir?
I have the same problems. the .nomedia way does not solve the problem, it only hides it. there are still so many thumbails, even of pictures I have deleted a while ago. I look for a way that the phone does not create them.
is there already a solutin for this problem?
clean the cache for the album app. or just click on the clear data
maybe get clean master app (no root) and will clean the trash from the phone

I too am having this issue. I'm running all stock 4.4.4 Clearing the cache removes the actual image but then I have to delete the empty thumbnail manually. That said, after a day or two the thumbnails come back. I am at over 100 thumbnails and it's freaking annoying
I've got also this issue.
Found some instructions but actually none were working for me.

Hi all, I had same issue, here are two solutions, both helped to me:
1. using file manager go to folder "cache" which is in videos, music, photos, delete all folders inside, then change the folder name from "cache" to any other in all three places (music, video, photos)... and that's it.
2. because I had other issues not related to the "thumbnails" I decided to proceed "factory reset" in phone settings, then after that using sony pc companoin I did "phone repair"....
Please try - I can't guarantee that it's 100% working, but both solutions helped me... good luck...

Using File Manager, i was unable to locate the Cache folder in any of the folders you listed. (I am under the SD0 folder). Do you mind uploading a screenshot of that folder?
A factory restore didn't fix the issue either.
Hi it's File commander, then go to phone memory then android... Data... Com.sonyericsson.album, com.sonyericsson.music, com.sonyericsoon.movies. Then you will find folder 'files' and 'cache'.thats the one U are looking for. Delete everything inside and change the name. Like I said- it helped to me.

The folder will be recreated, so changing the name is unnecessary. Deleting it just removes old thumbs.
I don't know but in my case it helped for 3 days untill I reloaded full OS because of other issues. I'm not a tech genius...:-B
