Hoping someone could answer me a question ive had since i joined xda. Ive seen recognized dev, recognized contributer, elite recognized dev, forum mod. What other tittles are given? And how do you earn them?
Sent from my GT-P1010 using Tapatalk 2
I would assume you get the title of "Forum mod" when you become one. As well as a recognized dev when you publish something that requires development

To become a mod you have to apply. There is a committee that bestows the recognized developer title.

And how can i apply for General-Lieutenant title, or at least a Captain would be fine?
I think you earn ranks by filling your thanks meter.
I'll sum it up for you (or try, anyway!)
There are Junior Members, Members, Senior Members first. These make up the vast majority of XDAs userbase.
Recognised Contributors are nominated by other users and/or Mods/Developers. They are recognised for their contributions which are not specifically Development, such as detailed guides, one-click utilities and other tools/mods.
Recognised Themers are also nominated by users/Mods/Developers, for their work themeing custom ROMs and providing standalone themes for flashing.
Recognised Developers are nominated and approved by the Developer Committee, for their work in Development whether it be ROMs, Root methods, bootloader unlocks etc.
Elite Recognised Developers are again assessed by the Developer Committee, and are deemed to have gone above-and-beyond in providing knowledge/hacks/tools/apps/ROMs for the XDA community.
Forum Moderators are appointed by the Moderator Committee, after submitting an application (see the 'sticky' at the top of this forum - currently applications are not open). They are the first-line of keeping the forums tidy, friendly and orderly.
Senior Moderators are the next step up the ladder, providing site-wide support for Forum Mods and looking after the nitty-gritty issues, as well as areas of XDA not policed by FSMs, such as the Marketplace.
Administrators are next. There are several Admins - each look after a specific part of XDA such as the Portal, the Members and the User Experience of XDA as a whole.
At the top is Mike Channon, who is overall Forum Administrator.
Other titles you may come across:
Moderator Committee - sits on the Mod Committee
Developer Committee - as above, but for Developer Committee
XDA Newswriter - publishes articles for the Portal (front page)
Retired xxxx - have since officially 'left' their XDA position
Hopefully that clears most of them up for you
Contrary to what a lot of people expect, the thanks-meter does not figure at all in determining a users tag.

Hey rr2sd, don't forget I saw some of the posts that PG deleted and they were, how shall I put it "worthy of deletion". Not only that, I deleted a few more.
Even if we do add more mods as we do in forums from time to time, they simply don't have time to start disussing every deletion before acting.
Anyway, what's to discuss if there is trolling, flaming, or off-topic stuff being posted. Sometimes we might debate whether something is in the correct forum, but otherwise if a poster is neither contributing nor being helpful then they risk having posts deleted.
I fully expect that where a Mod is doing a good job, there will be a balance of folk saying he's too lenient and those saying he is too tough.
Mike

How about this..before deleting any OP post, mod should warn members through PM
or thread 1st..If there is no action taken by the OP then mod can do his job.Fair enough
i think.
wow. got an infraction because of this. it was just disguised as a violation of the rule against personal attacks. lol.
EDIT: 2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA. personal attack is stated but is not clearly not defined in your rules. as you have said (rule 2.1) what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. your rule goes back to you, what a mod may think is a personal attack may not necessarily mean it is a personal attack to the one writing it. for example, when i complain that i am personally attacked by someone, what are your criteria by which you decide that i am really personally attacked? is it a first come first serve/delete basis? ronnieryan complained first so that makes her right?
EDIT: 2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner. I bet ronnieryan violates this rule in each and every post he makes, what have the mod done about this?
EDIT: i have read the rules over and over but i cant find something. just a question, wheres the rule against trolling mike?

well, the point of contention is, rather, that many feel that some deleted posts did not violate any rule.
as in the case of PG101 deleting a post on USB jig with technical info.
we should make sure to not get off THAT topic, specifically.
also PG101 appearantly deleted a very important post containing a SGY kernel bugfix wasting time of some devs.
kernel testing was severely delayed by PG101 killing that bugfix.
I rated this thread "5 stars" !

What ever your grudges against anyone mate (including mods), just a suggestion, try to resolve it via PM. .
In online forums, it best to ignore some people. What I have learnt by experience is I just state my point of view and leave it there. I don't go overboard to prove my point. Hence I never enter into an argument with anyone.
Happy XDA'ing. Cheers and apology if any of my comments hurt.

I think that was a typo, he meant 50 posts. Junior members are from 1-49 posts I believe as well, then members are from 50-99, then senior member after that.
Edit: I confirmed that it is actually junior member from 1-29 posts, then member from 30-99, then senior member after that.
Post count
Junior members are 0-9
Member 10 -99
Senior member - 100 +
the snr member one should be higher, I don't consider myself as a snr member
Should be more ranks.. like Veteran and Ol´Timer. Also, It shouldn't be based on post count entirely but also on how long you have been a member.

No because I reckon that's unfair. Somebody may have been member for like three years but barely done anything whereas somebody who is has been a member for smaller amount of time can have a higher post rate but I do agree with the more ranks idea

Ranks should be based on helpfulness and amount of time here both. 3 ranks. Leecher---u just creep around never helping and downloading everyone's work without ever giving helpful feedback or learning anything. Member---u contribute when u can and have tried to help other members in a respectful manner, as well as being a member of xda for at least 6 months. And finally, Jedi---u have donated, helped members at every turn, have been a member for at least 1 year, have a post count of 1000 +, and at least 10 people must be able to give positive feedback about you here.

I disagree with this category. "Just creeping around" i.e. reading a lot, learning a lot and sure, downloading, is exactly what we want newbies to do rather than immediately posting questions that have been asked before. If it's possible to categorise to that extent based on forum browsing behaviour, then I suggest this group be called Noble Learners.
Lol if you're going for posts, you could add in where you actually post. Normal XDA members can't access what amounts to probably 80% of my posts because they're in the special boards where you can't read them.

30 to 99 posts - Member

[GUIDE] XDA New User Guide
Just to clarify I do not mean to imply that you are a noob or a new user. I know that over the next few weeks and months, new users will find this thread and hopefully will follow the link to my guide. Senior Member is the last title by post count.
Thanks for clarifying ranks

Hey! thanks a lot for that!
So the ranks are just based on how many posts you have made? And are there any benefits to these ranks? Or are they just kinda there?

You do get a few...
* Larger pm inbox.
* Different title.
* Bragging rights
thanks a lot for the details
Just curious how many people here actually joined and have been able to download that kernal... I have been on it for 3 days and still haven't been approved. Even though I have made at least 10 post.. It is another site with interesting chit chat from other peoples point of view (which is why I have joined many forums) but the first forum my post can't even be seen yet by me or others..
You probably shouldn't have made this thread.

Thanks for the heads up.
Thread cleaned and closed
I will not tolerate bashing of any developer
Especially if it will create drama here
Also Anthrax discussion is not allowed on XDA and should be taken to the site where it can be found
Please respect the developer's and XDA's wishes and seek support there.
It is OK to mention Anthrax and even add to your sig but no links or lengthy discussions
Thank you for your cooperation

Hi
I am a junior member of XDA but I have a good experience of flashing ROMs. But the problem is that I cannot post any review/reply about that ROM due to this policy by which you should have minimum 10 posts. I understand that development-purpose threads are for developers but this policy restricts us to do any sort of development-related discussion even if we are capable of doing so. So I would request XDA to please remove the policy. Thanks.
Oh great. Another one of these threads...
It's only 10 posts. It's NOT 50, 100 or anything. It's ONLY 10. You're already half way there so go and help some people in your devices Q&A section to get your other 5 posts.
If your excuse is going to be that you haven't got the knowledge to help people out, then you have no need to post in development.
In fact, I pretty much guarantee you'll have nothing relevant to post in a development thread anyway.

All the mods want to hunt you down and kill you, but they aren't allowed to acknowledge this in public

No full-form.
XDA was a HTC device back in the PDA days, and that device was responsible for the birth of this site. More Info.

If you can contact an administrator or senior mod, they may be able to help lift your restrictions. But you have to be able to convince them that you are knowledgeable. This is not guaranteed. Easiest thing to do is to hang out in the General Forums and help other new members so as to attain your 10 posts.
I'm personally tired of threads like these. Funny, I don't see anyone anywhere complaining about lifes rules. What's the difference here? Everyone here had to adhere to this rule, why should you or anyone else be any different? I just don't get it...
Ohh!!

Well, removing isn't really an option, that would allow idiots to spam noob questions after 1 day.
But I've been here since mid 2011, been reading a lot, just not posting anything.
And I still have to meet the 10 posts rule. Maybe it's an idea to have either 10 posts, or being on the forum for a certain amount of time and have an x amount of pageviews or something.
Nonetheless, rules are rules, and rules are not to be broken :good:
For all you 10 post whiners in this thread, have a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166989
A thread created by a new member. 4 of his 5 posts are uuseless threads ffor which answers can be easily found by a bit of searching, what would happen now if this Guy was let loose in the development forum? I am not saying that all of you are like this. I have also seen some members whose first post was an extremely informative thread, but that's at a minority. Rules are rules and they are there for a reason, i realized this after staying on xda for more than 1.5yrs
