Hey rr2sd, don't forget I saw some of the posts that PG deleted and they were, how shall I put it "worthy of deletion". Not only that, I deleted a few more.
Even if we do add more mods as we do in forums from time to time, they simply don't have time to start disussing every deletion before acting.
Anyway, what's to discuss if there is trolling, flaming, or off-topic stuff being posted. Sometimes we might debate whether something is in the correct forum, but otherwise if a poster is neither contributing nor being helpful then they risk having posts deleted.
I fully expect that where a Mod is doing a good job, there will be a balance of folk saying he's too lenient and those saying he is too tough.

How about this..before deleting any OP post, mod should warn members through PM
or thread 1st..If there is no action taken by the OP then mod can do his job.Fair enough
i think.
wow. got an infraction because of this. it was just disguised as a violation of the rule against personal attacks. lol.
EDIT: 2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA. personal attack is stated but is not clearly not defined in your rules. as you have said (rule 2.1) what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. your rule goes back to you, what a mod may think is a personal attack may not necessarily mean it is a personal attack to the one writing it. for example, when i complain that i am personally attacked by someone, what are your criteria by which you decide that i am really personally attacked? is it a first come first serve/delete basis? ronnieryan complained first so that makes her right?
EDIT: 2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner. I bet ronnieryan violates this rule in each and every post he makes, what have the mod done about this?
EDIT: i have read the rules over and over but i cant find something. just a question, wheres the rule against trolling mike?

well, the point of contention is, rather, that many feel that some deleted posts did not violate any rule.
as in the case of PG101 deleting a post on USB jig with technical info.
we should make sure to not get off THAT topic, specifically.
also PG101 appearantly deleted a very important post containing a SGY kernel bugfix wasting time of some devs.
kernel testing was severely delayed by PG101 killing that bugfix.
I rated this thread "5 stars" !

What ever your grudges against anyone mate (including mods), just a suggestion, try to resolve it via PM. .
In online forums, it best to ignore some people. What I have learnt by experience is I just state my point of view and leave it there. I don't go overboard to prove my point. Hence I never enter into an argument with anyone.
Happy XDA'ing. Cheers and apology if any of my comments hurt.

There has been a recent movement of a few individuals reporting "1st" posts. Strangely though the 2 pages of "great, downloading now" or "was waiting to flash something" or just plain "thanks" were never reported. There is a thanks button and the dev can see all the names of the people that thanked him right there. I don't know why having a number on the 1st post bothers these people so much. The first 2 pages of a release were always filled with these kinds of posts. Now you can't have it both ways. Either all meaningless posts have to go or these "1st" posts are ignored. I don't think XDA would be much fun if all posts were "down to business" and contributing. And can those reporting the "1st" posts honestly say you never posted something that was non-contributing? It seems a lot of people enjoy this "1st" tradition and only a few it seems to bother to the point of reporting it. So rather than be selfish and make XDA a cold, dry, miserable place, can't we just let people have some fun and a little freedom. The moderators task is to enforce the rules but not to the point we are stormtrooping Gestapo. It is already hard enough with 20 million S3's sold and all the fighting, warez, ROM theft, trolling, and moving hundreds of threads a day, that we really don't need more reported posts for these trivial things added to it.
Now I ask.....please be considerate with the report button and think about someone that has a job, a family and a life that spends an hour or two a day cleaning up the "messes" here in order to help out, that you may be adding 5 minutes more to that time and taking it away from their family. It takes you 2 seconds to a report a post, it takes us minutes to clear it out. Is that really so hard to not be selfish and think of others instead of just how it bothers "you".
I want to thank all in the original thread, even the "no 1st post supporters" for helping me write a better OP, especially Jline05.

Wow. That's such an insightful post.
It's really quite shocking that out of approximately 4.5 million users that you'd think you're the only user here who thinks that this is "the greatest development forum".
May I make a suggestion?
Instead of jumping through random threads across XDA to tell people pointless stuff just to get up to 10 posts, you actually devote a bit of your time to reading threads such as :-
Forum Rules
Postcount limit in the developmental fora
Get the most out of XDA
XDA New User Guide
Now, you might be thinking that reading all of them might take quite a bit of time, and you're right. But it's either spend the time to read and follow what is said in those threads, or keep on doing what you are and quickly find that a moderator has deleted your posts because they're spamming.
The choice is yours
Oh, and please don't think that those threads were written for people like you just to ignore. That would be a really silly presumption to make and you'd quickly find out that those threads are in place to make this a much better place for all of us.
However, if you're struggling to think of how to get a legitimate 10 posts, then you should start off by answering peoples question in the General and Q&A sections for your device.
Much obliged

Hey guys.
I've been thinking about this, and it got me wondering..
If you see someone with a Recognized Contributor title, Recognized Developer title, or anything else higher than 'senior member' do you find yourself having more respect for those types of people versus a senior member telling you something? This applies to questions being answered, opinions, or any other given situation. If this thread gets 'popular' I'll throw up a poll.
Also, please do us all a favor and elaborate on the reason(s) why you said yes, no, or anything of the like.

Basically, if someone posts a question and it's answered properly I don't care if the answer came from a n00b or an RC. I'd be more inclined to accept an RC answer than a lesser rank if there was some doubt, though

Exactly what he said. *footnote being there are lots of senior members that if you look at their info have been members since 2007 but have very little posts and thanks. And their questions or answers very often reflect that. So I tend to look at that as well when trying to decide if I'm going to take their opinion seriously or as pertinent as someone else.

Interesting question..
Usually respect comes out of combination of their rank, number of posts and thanks.
Also when you follow particular threads like a hawk, the members worth respecting are visible on every next page.

I mostly always use xda app so ranks/posts/thanks aren't readily visible, but even when they are known I simply respect those that are respectful. On my last phones forum I lost quite a bit of respect for some of the devs actually just for their portrayed superior attitudes. If you don't like someone coming in and asking a repeat question (which I do understand can be frustrating) just ignore them, all the flaming just intensifies the problem.
I also agree about signatures asking for thanks, while I enjoy seeing my thanks meter go up it doesn't actually mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And while I'll still give a thanks if I appreciate the post, I'm less inclined too when the person asks for it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Hell no thanks don't matter. Anyone who's ever been to OT knows that the number of thanks a member has doesn't have anything to do with how knowledgeable they are.
As far as a contributor or dev, I don't judge somebody by the color of their name, I'm not a namecist.
Anyways the majority of posts and questions are more user related, so they do not require someone with vast knowledge of coding/themeing/etc. Anyone can answer a thread like HLP BATTRY FUUUU!, not just a "higher ranked user".
Having all of the requirements and becoming recognized should grant that user immediate respect. Devs too.
Users with hella post and thanks have probably seen a thing or two so they get respect but you gotta watch some of em lol
I wouldn't "instantly" respect anyone. Respect isn't something that should be just given away, people who actually deserve it get it.
Well yeah I guess. Only higher than me is RD, RC and Moderator. Senior Member status is earned by such a small amount of posts that I think it should be raised to 1,000 posts. It should be something that takes longer to achieve.
Thanks for all of your responses guys!

i look at EVERYTHING. sig, info in the sig, posts, thanks(meaning what you were thanked for), join date and then i'll also look at past posts ... ESPECIALLY if the person is trolling. even if it wasnt intentional trolling.
there are some people tho that have 10k posts because all they post is "SEARCH" ten times or bump their friends threads all the time. and then thats why they have 100k thanks. that person i will flame til deaths end and its because they are the people that are detrimental to this community. I admit my stats arent the greatest here but mostly because i have been using forums for the past ten years and have decided I have better things in my life to pick on people that are on the internet. I am here to help people out.

I don't necessarily automatically respect them, I just use the title and post count as a quick gauge of whether I should trust their opinion. That being said, I've seen a lot of people (like ben.nesheim said) that pad their post count with useless crap. There are a lot of people here that I know have high post counts that I don't trust on anything, and dread seeing their name in a thread. Then there are others that only have hundreds of posts (sometimes less) that are the most helpful and knowledgable people you'll find, they just don't post drivel. I think the title and post count are great quick indicators, but nothing more. Once you get into recognized developer or contributor territory, I give them a little more credit right off, but to me the respect still has to be earned.
And like EddyOS said, the signature tells you a LOT about a person. I make it a point not to hit the thanks button if your signature asks for it. We all know why its there, you don't need to remind me.
Hi
I am a junior member of XDA but I have a good experience of flashing ROMs. But the problem is that I cannot post any review/reply about that ROM due to this policy by which you should have minimum 10 posts. I understand that development-purpose threads are for developers but this policy restricts us to do any sort of development-related discussion even if we are capable of doing so. So I would request XDA to please remove the policy. Thanks.
Oh great. Another one of these threads...
It's only 10 posts. It's NOT 50, 100 or anything. It's ONLY 10. You're already half way there so go and help some people in your devices Q&A section to get your other 5 posts.
If your excuse is going to be that you haven't got the knowledge to help people out, then you have no need to post in development.
In fact, I pretty much guarantee you'll have nothing relevant to post in a development thread anyway.

Thanks.

All the mods want to hunt you down and kill you, but they aren't allowed to acknowledge this in public

No full-form.
XDA was a HTC device back in the PDA days, and that device was responsible for the birth of this site. More Info.

If you can contact an administrator or senior mod, they may be able to help lift your restrictions. But you have to be able to convince them that you are knowledgeable. This is not guaranteed. Easiest thing to do is to hang out in the General Forums and help other new members so as to attain your 10 posts.
I'm personally tired of threads like these. Funny, I don't see anyone anywhere complaining about lifes rules. What's the difference here? Everyone here had to adhere to this rule, why should you or anyone else be any different? I just don't get it...
Ohh!!

Well, removing isn't really an option, that would allow idiots to spam noob questions after 1 day.
But I've been here since mid 2011, been reading a lot, just not posting anything.
And I still have to meet the 10 posts rule. Maybe it's an idea to have either 10 posts, or being on the forum for a certain amount of time and have an x amount of pageviews or something.
Nonetheless, rules are rules, and rules are not to be broken :good:
For all you 10 post whiners in this thread, have a look at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166989
A thread created by a new member. 4 of his 5 posts are uuseless threads ffor which answers can be easily found by a bit of searching, what would happen now if this Guy was let loose in the development forum? I am not saying that all of you are like this. I have also seen some members whose first post was an extremely informative thread, but that's at a minority. Rules are rules and they are there for a reason, i realized this after staying on xda for more than 1.5yrs

Well as the title says I will be compiling a few roms from source but there will be no support for them from either me or the rom developers. There may be issue or there may not. All roms will be tested and will boot and have the core function working (call and mms) or I wont post them.
First rom here will be nameless rom. I have it compiled and working. I will upload it later and post it here.
Hey, that's great that you want to compile and contribute. But please do not post any untested builds and especially none in development if there is not going to be any support.
Thanks
FNSM
I can only speak for myself but I am thrilled to see this if they don't work I will delete it and restore a backup. Please keep the roms coming.

Man can you not read? Or maybe you are just trying to be funny aka TROLL? It is clearly stated that they are tested. Also it says they will be posted here in general not development! You act like I am some stupid arse who might post some junk that could be harmful to someone's device. I compile and support many roms here on xda. People/users request many more than I have time to support so I decided to go this route to satisfy their request.
While I dont know who you are and dont really care. You act like you are some all powerful person when in fact you just have "big fish in little pond syndrome". If you dont like what I am doing then go on your way and keep your mouth shut.
Sorry everyone else for the rant these fools just annoy me. Been running nameless and it has not given me any issues. Enjoy. Look for more roms very soon.

Sir. It seems you are the one that cannot read and Note your post violates several rules. You need to watch your mouth. A simple "don't worry, they will be thoroughly tested would have sufficed. So stow the attitude tough guy.

If you want attitude I can give you plenty. Kiss off. Read my first post that says they will be tested!!! I could care less if your a mod or not. You were out of place and called on it. Sorry it hurt you feelings but it is what it is.
In what post do I violate any rules?

If you have an issue with any moderator actions on this site I suggest you deal with it privately
There are rules for member conduct and disrespect to anyone on this site will not be tolerated
A shame the OP did not read my post...I asked not to post any untested builds meaning in the future
I did not imply that any of these builds were untested. Instead the OP chose the low road instead of coming to me in private to discuss and clarify.
