Low call volume on ics - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have tried multiple ics roms - only tmo based - and have had low call volume on all of them. Is this ics specific or phone specific? I have done multiple dark side cache wipes and follow all standard installation instructions carefully with each new rom. Can I fix this and if so how? Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2

This sounds phone specific, as all of my previous ROMs (I am currently using AOKP so this is a known-issue) had standard in-call volume. You can try Volume+ as I know that app has a way to change in-call volume that may or may not work. Hope this helps!

With most ICS based roms right now, they are usually ports or leaks from other carriers phones, meaning there are going to be some bugs with the phone.
With most of the ICS roms, it is also a known issue of the call volume being too low, and it is known to the developer.
You might just have to sit back and wait for more stable builds or wait for our great developers to find fixes to the problems!

[FIX] Galaxy Nexus GSM low latency audio playback

In my opinion one of the main flaws of the Android ICS OS the big audio playback latency - about 88 ms. This impacts negatively many applications that emulate musical instruments and the ones that do VOIP like Skype or Google Talk. For VOIP apps the audio lag also has a negative impact on acoustic echo cancellation - probably the most difficult feature to implement on an Android phone. In spite of many user protests and requests apparently Google has chosen not to do anything about it.
This is a similar thread to the one started by "Windows X":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621914
but the solution is applicable to the Google Galaxy Nexus GSM phone ( or with custom ROMs based on ICS 4.0.4 GSM (maguro))
The attached package should be used only by experienced users that can eventually restore their system to the original state. I tested it only on ICS 4.0.4 GSM phone build IMM76I (maguro). In this configuration it worked flawlessly as far as I could test it. Other successful testing reports coming for CM9 Nightly Builds, AOKP and rascream maguro ROMs.
The latency after aplying it should be about 20 ms - as reported by the "Caustic 2" app.
Change log:
Original package replaced by "lowlatsnd_inst.zip"
To restore to original state you may use "lowlatsnd_rest.zip" or other restore methods if necessary.
Status: stable
Note: applying this might reverse changes made in other mods.
consider submitting to AOSP once you're sure it's stable
Actually I think it is pretty stable, but I tested it only on my ICS 4.0.4 GSM phone build IMM76I.

Ill be trying on AOKP later today, but as its just a modified AOSP, I dont expect any issues. Nice find!

So that's why I have an echo on almost all of my phone calls and voip apps?
Is this a flashable zip or something you have to include before compiling?
It is a flashable zip.
The big audio playback latency is one of the reasons for echo cancellation poor performance.
I'm guessing it's possible to manually paste these files into the phone via some form of root explorer, right?
Since I'm new to the GN (had a Desire before), is it possible for you to create a flashable version of the stock files which will get replaced, as a precaution, please? Backing up and restoring takes quite a while (some minutes vs. a few seconds compared to a patch )
Edit: maybe I haven't noticed it, but I'm on 4.0.4 update 2 (forgot the exact build number - as I said, I'm new to the GN ) so... where exactly (or rather, how) can I spot the differences before and after applying the patches?
Actually I have included in the zip the original libraries too with the extension ".orig" for ICS 4.0.4
They may work on 4.0.2 too, but I did not test them. You can copy your original libraries for example in /data/local/tmp/ and restore them later if you need by mounting system rw...
Tested this on the Modaco ROM ..
Seems to break system sounds. Music doesnt play anymore.
Phone calls still work though...
Caustic 2 does say 20ms latency..
going back to stock for now but sure deserves attention..
Unfortunately I don't know the Modaco ROM. On ICS 4.0.4 it works flawlessly with any sound source I tested so far.
So this should work on rascream ROM then? (AOSP from source with very few color changes...basically stock)

Would someone be kind enough to graciously tell us if this made a difference (and what other bugs they've noticed) with their ROMs and device performance? Not that I'm scared or anything, but I'd like to be aware of what I'm trying to spot the difference in.
Seems to work fine with newest AOKP. Thanks!
If rascream ROM is AOSP with very few color changes then this should work in the maguro version.
This sure sounds a very interesting project. I hope you get lots of feedback and continue to work on that. Unfortunately, I haven't noticed that lag you are talking about. Most probably my ear isn't trained to spot it. How could I reproduce it, so that I would notice the difference before and after?
Thanks
The lag is very easy to notice in a Skype of Google Talk call for example.
Also, you may try apps like "Caustic 2" - hit the keyboard and notice a lag of the generated sound from the moment you tap the screen, or "DroiDrum"... you don't need a trained ear for that...
Works great on newest aokp! Thanks can definitely tell a difference in caustic especially before flashing this.....good job
Flashed this on rascream and all seems good.

yeah I wouldnt worry about Modaco..
its not a "full" 4.0.4 rom so thats probably why it didnt work for me..
quick question... would this increase battery usage, or has any of you testing this noticed something like that?
It might increase battery usage, but I didn't see any noticeable difference.

Low video recording volume with aokp

Just wondering if there was ever any resolution to this or a temporary workaround.

I'd also like to find out if there's a fix. I'm running cm10 and it would be almost perfect otherwise.

Noone at all??
The aokp roms by Task & Ktoonz (sp?) and the TeamAsylum gave me no issues on recording video. Both were solid roms, with T&K's being a bit easier to set up and use.
However, if you still have issues, try this kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30526959
I am on Codename Android and had the same low recording volume issue. This kernel fixed it. I really like the Codename rom, so I'd recommend that one for sure. It's on the original Android development thread.

I've tried the task and ktoonsez with a couple of different kernels such as the one listed above but still have the same problem. Do all AOSP/AOKP Jelly Bean roms have this issue? I read on another thread that this is due to the top filtering microphone being used instead of the bottom mic.
Are there any Jelly Bean roms that don't have this issue? Having normal recording volume is important to me because I take lots of videos of my son and also record audio during meetings using the voice recorder.
I search for samething....No news and found nothing on Google...
No one can tell if the issue is reported at the right place(which place?? AOSP/AOKP/CM10, Google....), if someone is working to resolv this, who/where/when ???? loll
It's like no ones want the Hot Potato
Is probably one of the last bug I have with AOKP/AOSP/CM10 JB ROM. It's even considered like a bug ?? I can even say that ! loll
Thanks !
...and I try with the kernel suggested by natefish, but no luck...
It really is a shame that this issue is not given more importance. I have been searching for an answer for the past month. I have tried different kernels, different ROMs. It seems the only way to get good audio when shooting video is to keep your phone in stock. I know the bug is reported in the CyanogenMod bug tracker but it looks like there is been no progress made on it in almost a year.
Has there been any workarounds that actually work?

AOSP ROMs and Google Play Music

Up till fairly recently, Google Play Music has played pretty well flawlessly in AOSP ROMs, but with the most recent builds of PACMAN, Paranoid Android, and Liquid Smooth, if I do anything else on the phone, the music skips, and that's no good.
Is there a fix for this? I tried making it so the phone doesn't underclock and that didn't change anything, so I don't think it's a lack of power. It also doesn't happen in Pandora, and you'd figure it'd happen there if it was anything to do with the music playing capability.
Also, while I have your attention, what is the difference between the unofficial AOKP and the other ROMs that makes it so that specific version of AOKP is the only AOSP ROM I've found that renders Google Play Music's album art properly?
Either way, <3 the AOSP ROM developers on this phone.
Hi,
I have never messed with voltage until yesterday, where I brought every voltage for cpu speeds down 25mA. Immediately after I did that, I noticed this problem, except my gs3 only does this when unlocking/locking the device. Hope this helps add to the thought process of someone smarter than me who will likely answer this question for us ^.^
Is this on the 4.2.2 builds? If it is...expect issues on those, the source for the official 4.2.2 has not been released yet (and no OTA yet) so remember that all of this functionality has to be built from the ground up
As soon as source is available, small bugs like this should be squashed
That's it! It's the shift to 4.2.2. That's the difference.
I'll be patient, I suppose.
I'm really hoping for a ROM that doesn't have any game breaking bugs, soon. We're so close.

I found a fix, for anyone else that's having the problem.
Just turn off touch sounds. Done. It works perfectly.
Now to fix the Google Play Music album art rendering bug that all ROMs except for the unofficial AOKP seem to have.
I don't have any touch sounds and I only use haptic feedback on call pickup/hangup and on the power widget. Can that effect it too?...

Any sound playing can effect it, even the volume turning up/down sounds.

[Q] Volume too quiet after JB upgrade

I've been using Lightweight ICS ROM for a while and just recently decided to try SuperNexus JB ROM. I do like the SuperNexus ROM, however, the volume (for everything) is definitely not at the same level it was before (I can't post the question in the thread directly since I need 10 posts) but I'm not 100% sure it's due to the ROM either, since I've only seen a couple other complaints about volume in that thread.
I'm not sure what's causing the issue, I do know that Lightweight was packaging Beats Audio with it, and I don't believe SuperNexus does, but neither did the stock ROM, which sounded fine. I've tried using Volume+ to boost the volume, but its "booster" makes it even quieter. I've been trying to search for solution but haven't found anything useful yet, aside from complaints about low volume on Nexus devices and a audio fix for Nexus 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889522), which caused my device to enter a bootloop. Some posts I've read suggest this might be a kernel issue, in which case I'm confused why other users of the same ROM aren't experiencing it. Does anyone know of a fix?
Thanks
Try this from Bilgerryan.

Supposed to be universal for Touchwhiz or AOSP:thumbup:

OmniROM. In-call volume too low

Build - Version 4.4.2-20140316 N7105
Kernel - based on omni stock kernel.
All my recipients claim that they can't hear me and i can't hear them clearly.. my in-call volume is already at its max.
is there any settings that i need to adjust?

Go to themes and apps section, look for sound mod which supports all roms, follow instructions, volume should be more now, don't think this will fix the problems of your recipients hearing low sound.
I've been using Omni from a long time. Never had this problem. Try factory reset and installing Omni again. But I use N7100 and you have N7105 so something might be different.
