Hello all,
I have this very annoying problem from so long now.. and I guess I am not the only one who has it.. Whenever I travel on bike and I take my cell out of my pocket under sunlight to change the song or to call someone, the screen doesnt come up.. it goes blank, even if I am listening to some song, still I dont see anything on the screen... Its really annoying.. Also whenever I receive any call under sunlight, I can't disconnect it.. Why the heck sony doesnt have a stable GB software even though ICS has been rolled out now.. Sometimes I feel Samsung is way better than Sony.. seriously.. I feel that I should have gone for the SGSII rather than Xperia Arc.. And u cant compromise everytime when u r investing more than 25K bucks...
In wat way you mean that the screen goes blank? I couldn't get you,

I had the same problem. The first one was after a trip on motorcycle, phone in the pocket. Impossible to have something on the screen while i was able to see the backlight turned on. I left it like that all day long and it resuscitated. Then, recently, it made me the same thing while it was in my bag all day. And even by leaving it on a table, later it was not resuscitated, I have reinstalled the rom, twice to resuscitate it.
During the first crash I was able to see the log file, I remember that there were lines in red which indicated " starting of the module LM365x (or an equivalent number) failed " very numerous times.
Good luck to you to resuscitate your phone!
Do you have screen brightness on automatic maybe?
It could be the sensor think it's bright enough not to switch on the backlight?
Hi, what do u mean by having auto brightness on? How to do it?

Auto brightness is on by default and there's no settings for you to change it.. Try keeping your finger closing the sensor and wake it up!

Does anyone else's lock screen lag really bad sometimes?
Sometimes it will work fine but sometimes it could lag horribly.
I can slide to unlock and then it will actually slide a second or two later, and the animation when it brings up the home screen is really choppy.
I keep thinking of doing a factory reset to see if it solves it but o don't want to lose everything if it doesn't work.
I'm 100% stock 4.0.4
I will try and get it on video later to show you what I mean when I get home

Got auto screen brightness ON?
Cause when you lock ur screen in full light condition and unlock when in dark light condition (and vice versa), the lag you describe happens.

If u don't have anything useful to add don't post.
Stop wasting my time having to reply to such a useless post. Bye

Mine doesn't lag.
Maybe another program monitoring the lockscreen?

Hi guys m facing a strange issue. I have observed that sometimes my proximity sensor remains on. I tried to find out the app causing it by Force Stopping each app one by one but that doesn't solve the problem. .
I am not using any motion like quick glance which uses the sensor or any other app like turning the screen on off (eg smart cover etc)
only a reboot fixes this issue but after sometime (say few hours or 1-2 days) the sensor turns on. . Can you suggest me what else shall I do? coz m observing more than normal battery drain in stand by mode. . Please help!

I too have noticed it and posted it on a thread also
I also notice this..only now i came to know that it is proximity sensor..will appear as a dim red right and if it stays on, it turns off only if restarted..might be a bug..should we report it to samsung so that they will fix it in updates?
I have noticed one thing that after 2+ or more (random) days of usage if I receive/make a call the sensor doesn't turn off. .might be this is a s/w bug. .but this is what I have noticed after closely monitoring my phone. .
Sent from my GT-N7100
I've noticed this too! Didn't know the dim red light was proximity sensor. But i've noticed it only twice (with battery below 40% on both occasions).
Viber has a known bug that cause the proximity sensor to be always on. If you uses it, u need to update to the latest version i think its v2.2.3.109.

Still, I would love to see what's the cause of this and how to resolve it.

Even though I first got this proximity sensor bug after I turned on "increase volume in pocket" (only 1 time so far), I'm pretty sure it's not related, because I did a few tests and as far as I could tell the phone increases the volume based on its position (and possibly movement) in the second it receives the call. If it's vertical (like in a pocket), or on its side (like in a bag), when you get a call, it will increase the volume. If the phone is horizontal, like on a table, and starts ringing, the volume doesn't increase, and it won't increase even if you pick it up and move it around while it's ringing.
I also thought initially that it uses data from the proximity sensor, but I tested and it doesn't care if it's covered or not when the phone rings, it appears to use data from the accelerometer/gyro exclusively.
I'm try turn all motion off right now. Let see if it can solve the problem
I have the same problem.
I resolve it by pressing volume up + home + power.
Let it restart and so far after about 1mth+ did not encounter this issue any more.
Hope this help :fingers-crossed:
i have the same problem
all motions are off
and still have it random....only restart to close the sensor
Hey all im with tmobile and ive had my phone now for about 2 and a half weeks just looking to put my mind at ease with a few i think issues with the phone..
1)does the auto brightness seem out of touch with the surroundings sometimes? cause mine will brighten a bit then darken a bit.. It doesnt do this on my set settings its quite annoying....
2) does the upper half of the phone get just a little hot after heavy use?? I called tmobile today and they have no problem switching it out for me but if you all are having the same issues then ill just leave it alone.... thanks all in advance to your answers...
Its normal, my phone is the same way.. the s3 too..
Same here

A little warm is normal. Yes, I have that too.
I also have that auto brightness problem too. I just turned off the auto brightness just of that problem. I don't know if this is a sensor problem or software problem. But I like to manually control my brightness of my devices anyway.
If you lower the screen brightness all the way down and open the stock internet to Google, and tap the search bar to pop the keyboard up, you'll see a slight flicker. So far on every display s4 at the store has the same problem. Anyone have an idea if this is software or hardware related?
Huh, I dont have that problem on my phone. Just tested it.

Same here. Tested and experienced no flickering issue.
Are you talking about the smearing issue when the phone is dim all the way and you have white text on black background. Text turns hazy purple when u scroll. If so this is a known issue that's been reported here already.

I've noticed flickering on super white backgrounds. It's hard to see and it's got to be the right lighting and high brightness. IMO if you need to go through a process to see a slight flicker, blobs, etc., it's not really a concern. I'm assuming it's software related.. Same with the text blur.

Well yeah thats what I mean't by flicker lol. I honestly think the oled screen samsung put in the s4 is a little faulty and they needed to calibrate it better before shipping.

Hi,
Im facing same issue ,im from bangalore india, i observed this prob on day one, many of ppl didnt even notice this until i made them show the issue.
I even went to service centre and the service centre guy showed me 4 other phones with same problem, so he tld the manufacturing only is like this v cant help, so i had to return n adjust with the problem,
On top phone heats up for little usage of 3g
just tried this don't happen in my phone.

mine does it. also, turning off auto tone doesnt help. with me at least
mine does it... unchecking the auto adjust doesnt help.
Most users wont notice it. Hell, I myself didn't notice it until someone pointed it out on their device and I tested and saw it. OCD kicked in.
Go in any app with the keyboard popped up and go into the Sun directly hitting the screen and you will see your screen flickering endlessly no matter what app your in
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
So just now my screen started flickering and it goes black when I slide my keyboard out, but a simple power on-off fixes it.
First of all, this is very tidious and annoying to do -.-
Second, I fear the screen will eventually stop working at all.
So my question, has anyone experienced this before and can give me and info on it? Would flashing a new Rom probably fix it? It doesn't seem to affect anything else at this moment, but I don't know what this little glitch will lead to.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
A lil more info, the screen seems to flash on/off at the second I slide the screen up. When the screen goes black, it still works and responds to any touch as normal, but I just can't see anything at all.
Could this be a LCD problem? Or screen brightness?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Well, my gut tells me that the back light is going out, but I can't be sure. Is the screen really dark (as in, you can barely see anything in it if you shine a flashlight on the screen) or is it off (can't see anything in it at all, even with the flashlight). Also, what ROM are you using and so on?
Thanks for your help, but I'm getting used to it now. When I decide to flash a new ROM, if that solves it then great, and if not, I guess ill just use the phone till the screen blows out. This is only my media phone so its not a big deal and since the problem hasn't gotten worse over the 2 weeks I'm hoping it won't.
