DO NOT OTA update while you are rooted!
Download this, install and you have official FroYo
Thanks for the info as the phone is unlocked and rooted is it still on Orange?

Nope, you're stuffed until someone works out how to break in to the new HBoot, which may be soon, or may be never.
You should have read the forums first.

hi guys please help me i am pulling my hair out, I have a htc desire from germany via a parrelell importer, i recently tried updating to froyo ota my phone is unbranded and not rooted, how ever now when i start it i get a message saying system failure force close/wait, i have made a gold card, and placed roms on etc but it doesnt seem to reconize them on sd card and says signature failure, also before that while in reocvery it comes up with e:cant open /cache/recovery/command,
im at a dead end please some one help me i will love u long time!
I think you Desire is unbranded, can you use sim cards from different carriers?
If yes no goldcard is needed

Why can't I get OTA updates?

I have followed the tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256&page=34 to debrand my Orange UK Desire.
I now have:-
HBOOT 0.83 (Although I'm 95% its AMOLED)
Radio 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Build: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
Software: 1.21.405.2
But when trying to do an OTA update I just get "No updates are available".
I havn't rooted the device and can't understand why I can't get the OTA updates. Is there a specific software version I have to have for it to update?
To my knowledge, once you debranded your device by installing a stock-ROM you are unable to get an OTA update (because somehow HTC or whoever ships the OTA recognizes that you don't have the specified ROM installed on your device - judging on the IMEI and the ROM).
I had an orange.FR branded Desire, bought over eBay, and I installed a custom ROM on it. It doesn't get any OTA too.
My suggestion is, just root it again and install your desired ROM manually.
I also have a debranded orange desire via a gold card and also SIM unlocked, I initially got an OTA last night for 1.15.405.4 and downloaded with delight until there was no wifi. A second update then OTA for froyo 2.2 which I installed via 3g (as I have unlimited data plan) however this worked for seconds before shutting down and restarting again. I then reverted back to the initial RUU and now have the same issues of no updates available.
I now have
Radio 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11
Build: 1.15.405.3 CL150129 release-keys
Software: 1.15.405.3
Does anyone have a solution to get 2.2 onto this desire, the links on xda for roms are all not working as there is a problem with the site being closed.
I am looking for a generic HTC ROM newest version possible please!
Thanks
Just root with revoked.

[Q] how to get the new update on a rooted 2.2 evo?

i have a evo that has 2.2 software and is rooted, i want to update it with the new update that is available, i heard that it has been rooted already, is that true? if so how do i install it? the new software number is 3.29.651.5
Most of the roms that people are coming out with are already updated.. the rooted version of the update came out almost a month ago..
and it was an easy search and it was on page 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789913

stock, which root? update first? hboot-0.79.0000 / 2.1-update1

Which root should i do for my stock old evo? Should I update it first?
firmware 2.1-update1
baseband 1.39.00.05.31
kernal 2.6.29-a2443432 [email protected] #1
softwanre number 1.32.651.6
pri version 1.40_003
hardware version: 0003
hboot-0.79.0000
You cannot update after you are rooted. So yes, you should do all updates before rooting.
Is there a reason you are still on Android 2.1 when 2.2 has been out for months?
can i flash one of the roms on here to update after i root my phone? or should i really update first?
I haven't updated it due because i bought it along time ago without activating it. was trying to not give up my sero, but gave up in the end.

You can update after rooting, just not with the over the air updates. Once rooted you could update to any version you want and there is even software from other phones that people have made usable on our phones.
thanks to the awesome xhausx, i've rooted according to his reply ehre

[Q] How To Get Unrevoked To Root Evo Properly

I recently lost my HTC EVO 4g which had been rooted. Obviously the new one came unrooted and i need to root it. I previously had done the one-click root using unrevoked forever in order to obtain Superuser permissions before flashing a custom rom. When i attempt to do this with my new EVO, after running unrevoked it runs until the point of "Searching for root, Ok to restart if this doesnt work" at which point it gets stuck. What do i do to make it continue in the process and root the phone?
I removed htc sync and have the universal android drivers in place
My phone is as follows:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: 2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Version:
2.6.32.17-gee57fd
[email protected] #15
Build number:3.70.651.1 CL294884 release-keys
Software Number: 3.70.651.1
Browser Version: Webkit 3.1
PRI Version: 1.90_003
PRL Version: 01115
Any help would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: I accidently typed unrevoked forever. I meant to say that I used unrevoked 3 and that is when this problem occured

Im sorry, i dont know why i wrote unrevoked forever. I did use unrevoked 3 and this is what happened
I think I found the problem i didnt have the current unrevoked 3.3 and only had 3.21 i will try the new one and post back
I figured it our on my own with a little more research on my part. just wasn't using the most up to date version of unrevoked 3 so it wasn't compatible with the most recent OTA. I fixed it. Its rooted now. Thanks
