I woke up yesterday and the Galaxy Nexus (GSM) was not responding well. The touch input was lagging and it appeared to be under load. The phone was not hot. I took the battery out and put it back in. The phone however did not come back on. I have left the battery out over night and then put the battery back in when i woke up. Nothing. I have left it pluggeed into the computer for 3 hours unplugged then put then battery in. nothing. I have done numerous battery pulls and nothing.
I have read every possible post I can find about this but haven't recovered my phone. It was running AOKP milestone 3 and kernal build 162 (can't remember name sorry). CPU was not changed from stock settings (governor i believe). It will plug into computer with nop battery in and give me the OMAP4440 device listing for a brief second so I know its not dead.
Any help would be appreciate.

can you boot into fastboot?
Holding volume up+down and power?
no. no fast boot response. ONLY thing that tells me phone is seudo alive is the USB recognition for 1.5 seconds when plugged into computer without battery. This happened to me once before and leaving the battery out overnight got it back. No luck this time. Bought phone May 4th. First incident may 5th. Didnt want to bother with return because I love the phone. Now out of 14 day return policy. Can't send to Samsung due to root/etc

yeah i tried that as well. i just said screw it today. called samsung got a shipping label. the warranty process could turn out bad/interesting. if it does i'll just let em keep the phone. been more problems since the day i got than any phone ive had. not flaming this gnex forum by any means so dont launch into a war on me. I miss my Galaxy S2. I work at an AT&T COR store maybe i'll poke around for when our GS3 is coming. I'll keep yall posted on what sammy says. If anyone reads this that has had a success story with recovering their phone from this problem let me know though please.
Sounds to me that your battery is flat and it doesn't charge. Do you have a spare one you can try (friend or work)?

My Gnex happen excetly same after I updated CMW touch zip by rom manager! No response on power button. Power + volume +- button! Garrrrrrr!
That 1.5 second you've mentioned when you connected to the computer... did it say? OMAP or something like that? If so, you have a good chance of "reviving" the phone. Search up for OMAP flash.
This excactly the thread you need
Good luck buddy

This post helped. My GSM GN suddenly went black in the middle of an installation. Tried the tip with battery . No go
Saw the same problem at iFixit forums.
The tip was same. The trick was to use the charger instead of the USB port.
Worked well and my GN is back again.
Related
I've searched & searched thru XDA without any luck or finding someone with a similar situation.
My GNEX is unlocked, rooted & running AOKP 36.
I hung up the phone after a call...locked it...put it in my pocket...took it out a few minutes later and the phone would not turn on. My battery was over 50%, so i thought i pocket-powered the phone down.
The phone does not boot into any mode. I've tried them all. It is not recognized by my Mac or PC. Here are the things i've done so far: Battery pull. Charge overnight. Removed battery overnight. I bought a new battery & i'm still having the same problem.
Any ideas before i call Verizon and take the loss? I would really like to recover my pictures & videos.
Thanks in advance.
So you have tried to boot into recovery by holding down power and the volume buttons?
If not try this to get to recovery to do a restore.

If you tried this, then you might need to send it in.
Thanks for the reply, but i've tried that already. I'm out of ideas...it's unresponsive.

Do you have another battery or friend with a gnex? My girls died completely while plugged in over night. I got another battery and it fired up.
Needless to say a clean install was the next step.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Also hold down power button for awhile. And also try.with a different battery.
...
I bought a new battery from Verizon and tried it, but its still unresponsive. I charged both batteries overnight and nothing happens.
I've held all buttons for several minutes with both batteries, but nothing happens. It wont boot and it won't boot into recovery/bootloader/hard reset menu, etc (android with stomach open LOL)
On a few occasions, when i connect to my PC, it says new hardware detected OMAP 4440 (or something like that) & asks to install drivers. I have the Gnex toolkit, but the program does NOT detect my phone.
Thanks for the replies.
This happened to my fiance's vzw gnex. She was on stock though. Just surfing the web and it turned off. Dead as can be. She took it back and they gave her a new one.

Can't hurt...
My Nexus is from Verizon & the tutorial you linked is for the GSM version. Do you think it matters?
I will still give it a shot. Thanks!
Did you check the pin area where the battery connects? Are the pins in good condition or any small foreign object around them?
If you're careful you can *maybe* odin it back to stock (you've already lost the pics tho).
Look in the dev area for any odin threads.....links to files and stuff are in there.

Thanks for the link. I installed the drivers, phone was detected, ran thru the program, but it failed at the very end. I think its because my phone is i515 & not GSM version.
I've given up hope. Time to get a replacement. I hope it never boots and they don't find out its unlocked & rooted.
I appreciate everyone's input.

My phone hardbricked for no apparent reason, and I'm not sure what to do. Battery was at about 50% yesterday, it turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I did a soft reset, and it turned on. I watched it go as far as the logo and then had to walk away. When I came back, the phone was black again. And it hasn't turned on since. No logo, nothing. I've tried a soft reset, plus multiple other reset combinations. I plugged my phone to the computer, I get the normal connecting 'ding', but then it says that driver's device cannot be found.
I'm running stock firmware, no mods. No history of battery issues (except the normal slow decline). I've had the phone for a year and three weeks, so I'm out of warranty too. I called T-mobile and they said it sounds like a hardbrick and are willing to switch it out for $20 since I'm out of warranty. I can't do that since I'm out of the country for the next 1.5 months, so I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions on what to do or why this even happened?
Thanks!

does it respond to plugging in to charge? im not 100% but if its responding at all when it gets plugged in its not hardbricked only softbricked so go from there. when i hardbricked my first s2 due to a corrupt kernel file i flashed it would not react to anything at all. complete dead weight

Thanks for everyone's help. I ended up sending in my phone to a Samsung service center (while I was in Korea). They confirmed that it is a hardbrick. They opened it up and said it looked like there was a short and it fried the motherboard. They couldn't tell me what caused the short--they said maybe some water got into the phone through the charging port, but I know that isn't true... I had it plugged into an old power strip and maybe that's why? :crying:
Either way, I was told my only option was to get the motherboard replaced which would be $200. I told them no thanks and that I'd just get a replacement phone from T-mobile for $20.

I know my story sounds unlikely, but it's the truth. Isn't this forum around to help fellow users? I have no reason to lie here. I actually take very good care of my phone and (after almost losing a laptop to a water spill) am extremely cautious about liquids around my electronic devices. You don't have to believe me since I'll get my phone replaced regardless. I just thought I would share the information in case someone else ends up facing the same problem.
Even now, the only cause I can come up with still is the old power strip frying the motherboard. *shrug* I would love to hear any other explanations.
I dont know what happened. Running stock everything
All of a sudden the phone shut off and now it vibrates every 2 seconds. Have tried everything to get it on.
When you put the battery back in, it shows the load up screen and then half way through, shuts itself off and just vibrates once every 2 seconds. Really annoying.
Called T-Mobile and having a replacement sent tomorrow.

Yeah I have PHP protection with them so I always have warrenty and insurance together. Its alot easier trying to get an exchange when your phone wont turn on because they dont make you do 1000 different things lol, was off the phone within 5 mins. Tried being slick and saying " Well you know if their arent any S2 in stock, you can always send me the s3 if you like ".. Didnt work =[ They had s2 lol
Anyway, nothing really. Was just typing, put the phone down, then the screen went off like it always does, then when I tried to turn it back on to unlock it, it happened.
This happened a few weeks ago but the vibrating lasted for a couple of mins ten ended up turning itself back on. Now its just not turning itself back on at all. Just stuck with the vibrate.
Am I losing everything on it now or will it automatically back up on my gmail account?
I knew I shouldnt have saved all those pix on the phone and not the sd card lol

Sorry, unless you had some kind of auto upload set up ( I set mine up through Dropbox and Google + ), those pictures are likely lost.
Google doesn't automatically sync pics unless you have Picasa, I think?
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my T-Mobile Galaxy S2.
Sounds like the power button might be stuck.
I gotta say, I HATE UPS. I dont know why T-mobile uses them. You get overnight delivery and of course they ring the wrong bell and do not come back. I live on ground floor and they up and ring top bell. Fed EX of course would always come back. Thank fully the overnight delivery was basically be free, but that sucks. I also wish they would just leave the phone sometimes but they never do, even though it is not sig required. ( Drivers Discruction )
Gotta wait till Monday now.
sux brohim
had the same thing happen to me. this was back when i was dong the stock ICS update through (hang myself) Kies. Thankfully T-mobile sent me a new one at no charge and i didn't pay for the shipping either. either battery fried or something in the phone. seems to have been a fairly rare but known prob with the t989.
i always seem to to get the units that are within the .05% of defective units, no matter what company i buy from.
Here's to hoping you get better luck with the next unit! :raise a beer:
Quick question
I have used GB for my gs2 from the beginning and never upgraded to ICS.
I am worried that the replacement they send will have ICS in it. Simply put, will it be easy for me to put GB on the phone when I get it.
You can root and flash a gb Rom
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
You can go through odin and follow the tutorial on galaxys2root.com to unroot and ffash to stock GB. Link provided. The power button may have been stuck on yours but congratulations on getting it replaced. Just follow that tutorial and it will get you to stock 2.3.6 GB with no root or anything done, completely stock.
http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-ga...ck-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989-android-2-3-6/
Was messing around with the power button today pushing it 100 times and it finally turned on. Figures it would turn on when I'm getting a new one on Monday. Least I now backed up all my pix and contacts. Now point in keeping this one though, probably gunna happen again. Keeping the new one.
Wow another S2 down with a defective power button. I just had to send my out to get fixed for the same problem. This is become more common
So I received the phone today. Came stock with 4.0.4.
I plug it into my computer and kies gives me this
" Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies "
What the hell is that all about.
Oh and when I made my first call, I heard the people on the other end, but they did not hear me. I had to battery pull. It sucks because that was an issue with my phone on GB, figured it might have been fixed with ICS. Guess not. It really makes me sick that this happens. Sometimes I call someone and I hear nothing at all. Its happened with both GB and ICS. When the hell are they going to issue a fix for this crap.
First thing that I noticed and do not like is that when I use the keyboard, the phone vibrate heptic or w.e is not as strong as it was with GB. Also the voice on the other end sounds more muffled and more can like than GB. Not sure if thats the phone though
I keep reading that ICS stock verison UVLH1 ICS 4.0.4 is the Official tmobile and best ICS rom for stock
The phone they sent me is Baseband Version UVLI1.
I cant find anything on this version. What is it?

Time for upgrade maybe you can convince them to send you S3
I had to just replace my S2 with a new one from t-mo because I had tons of problems with my original phone once it upgraded to ICS. "Hanging" goodbye (didn't want to shut off unless you took out the battery, even after the buzz - which tells me that I may possibly had a stuck on/off switch too), lost the phone's internal driver so that the phone can be plugged into my PC, internet and processes became S-L-O-W-E-R than molasses, and more.
I'm assuming that, since all the S2's now have ICS on them shipping out, Samsung may have added a little additional processor power or something in order for it to run efficiently on ICS. All I know is that it runs a little faster than my original S2 did. And no problems - SO FAR.
P.S. UPS really does suck - they tried to deliver twice to my house, didn't leave one of those sticky things that said they were there, and I finally wound up going to a UPS service facility where I had to wait over one hour to get my new phone.

I am not really happy with it. Seems slower to me. Not as smooth. Still sometimes the person on the other line cant hear me, and vice versa with the battery pull, but I had that with my old phone and GB also. If I am going to have it either way though, id rather just stay smoother with GB.
What did your new one come with? Mine is UVLI1. Kernel 3.0.8
Hey guys,
From what I've read, this seems to happen to a lot of different phones, but not out of the blue and I didn't find anything on the Note 2, so I'm wondering if it's the same issue and if my only hope is to get a replacement. It seems to be dead at the moment.
Before going to bed, I charged my phone to about 90% and then unplugged it and left it on my desk.
This morning when I woke up, it was off, which was kind of odd, since there's no way it would fully discharge over night. I tried turning it on, plugging it to charge, swapping out the battery for another original one I purchased directly from Samsung, trying other chargers, even the PC and different USB cables, all to no avail.
The only thing I noticed was that the proximity sensor seems to flash every 5-10 seconds, and I'm not sure what that would mean, other than the fact that it's getting some power somehow so that it can light up.
For the time being, I removed the battery and left it like that while I'm at work.
The phone is running the stock ROM for the GT-N7100, nothing was ever modified, it's not rooted or anything.
I know there was a firmware update pop-up on it at some point, but I hadn't installed it.
Any clues guys? I know there's some really knowledgeable people here, so I'm hoping someone might have an idea!
Thanks for the help and sorry for the text!
That sounds like the dreaded sudden death syndrome, how long have you had your device? You need to take it to a service shop. Was it rooted?

I should contact Samsung for a service shop location then? I've never done anything like that before.
Thanks!

All the sign and symptoms indicating its sudden death.
- Have you updated to 4.1.2 which is believed to be patch for SDS?
-Can you reboot to recovery/download mode?
Well, I did try just plugging it in for a few hours, when I went back to it the battery was cold and nothing happened.
I do have 2 original batteries, so I've been trying everything with both of them.
It just seems like the SDS because of the proximity sensor lighting up.
Right now it's unplugged and without a battery, just in case the capacitors need to discharge or something.
I guess I'll try again tonight!
It's really complicated with the GT-N7100 being an international phone, I can't register it on Samsung for warranty, so I've been trying to talk to Newegg and haven't been successful with them so far.
Thanks for the replies guys.

The crazy part is that I think the phone was asking me to update firmware, but I didn't have time to update it before it died like this... what luck, right?
For the download mode, it never reacts while plugged in other than the sensor, so even if I hold the key combinations, it doesn't seem to react. I'll try again more thoroughly tonight.
You didn't update that's prove you were not on latest rom which have fixed sds, really bad luck otherwise it could have took 10min on good network.
Anyway Goodluck for replacement.

Have you tried hard reset, or soft reset. and if you cant get into recovery then sorry buddy :/ it seems like the SDS bug.
The proximity sensor light indicated the system is booting up but if no system boots up then you should send it back to samsung for repair.
Mine should be arriving tomorrow with an engineer's report. I will fill you guys in on what the service centre says.

It seems to indeed be the SDS, and I can't reset it or anything since it won't boot up, nor can it go into download mode.
Biggest problem is that seeing as it's a GT-N7100, after calling Samsung; they're telling me it's an international phone and that it can't be serviced in the US or Canada, so I'm basically stuck with a $700 paper weight... this majorly blows. I wish there was someone higher up at Samsung I could speak to, since this is just an extremely bad experience with the product...

I would definitely appreciate any help! You think this would help? I know phones don't exactly carry international warranty, but if I could send it there for replacement or something; that's already a step forward.
I do believe that since Samsung knows of this problem, they should offer outright replacements for anyone suffering of this issue though - because it's literally putting a faulty product on the market; there should be something we can do about this.
Appreciate it, once again!

I have a Galaxy W and I'm using arcos CM10.1 for a while now. 3 Weeks ago I decided to update to arcos latest Beta 4. It was running as good as always for the 3 weeks - but as I went to bed on Friday evening my Wonder had about 50% battery and when I woke up it was turned off. At first I thought the battery collapsed, so I tried loading it but it didn't help. My Mother also has a Galaxy W, so I put in her battery, but it didn't help either.
The Problem is: no matter what I try, when I push the Power-Button the screen stays black and nothing happens. No vibration or anything. So I'm not able to boot in recovery or anything else.
Is there anything I can do? Do you think this is a Hardware-issue?
I'm barely over the warranty, so sending it to Samsung is no real option.
There were a lot of photos on the internal SD-Card - is there a way to save them?
Thank you guys! :crying:

The same thing is happened to me the battery from 70% is dropped to 0% and the next morning I can't power on but when I tried to charge my phone I saw the charger animation so I waited until the battery is upped to 100%.
I think it's an overheathing problem cause now my battery works fine:good:
Thanks for your Reply!
The problem is even if I put it on the Charger - nothing happens...
That means I don't see the charger animation either...
And I tried different cables (USB and DC) ...
Any other idea?

Mine didn't turn on, got a JTAG, it worked fine (is dead now, fell in water, got new one) You should try that, if not fixed. Then the logic board is dead

That sounds great
So I did some research and found out, that such a JTAG (I found "RiffBox") is about 150$
Isn't there any cheaper method?
I mean if I spend 150$ I could nearly buy a new phone...
I found UnBrickableResurrector on xda.
But I'm not sure if it works for our device
Has anyone worked with that before?
Or knows a cheaper JTAG?
EDIT: Found someone to borrow an USB Jig. Will try this at first.
Also I found a local phone repair shop - they'll do a JTAG for about 25$, so if the Jig won't help it's worth a thinking...
I'll write again if I know more :fingers-crossed:

Great find, see if that supports our Wonder, and the cheapest JTAG here is around 12$, But trust me, it is worth it.
jtag usb jig diy guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-how-to-make-usb-jig-reset-binary-t1604707
That thread is for USB jig only......
The chances are that a jig WILL NOT WORK......it takes a bootlooping phone and forces download mode.....if your phone is totally unresponsive.... eg not even powering on to get as far as bootloop....the jig will be useless.
I think the only option is JTAG......
but I think that it might delete the files that you are worried about.....
Check with the repairer first.
Also find out if you will still be charged if the JTAG fails.....
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
Hey Guys, sorry for the late response.
It seems the Galaxy W is dead - no USB Jig and no JTAG could revive it
Looks like the hardware is dead. So I had to order a new phone.
I'm now proud owner of a Google Nexus 5, which is really awesome
