I have been using an Evo3D for the past few months and in that time I have already had the screen replaced once for having dust under it. I had the hardest time dealing with sprint attempting to get them to replace the screen and after many hours of complaining they reluctantly swapped it out for me. I have pretty bad OCD and seeing the dust under the screen is absolutely unbearable, this is clearly a manufacturing defect considering I had this problem with my OG Evo. I can't keep dealing with this, and I can't keep dealing with Sprint's non-sense. The assembly method on Samsung phones seems to be superior to that of HTC because I don't really hear any complaints about dust under their screens. And typically the resolution is significantly more rich than the QHD screen on the Evo3D. I know that this phone is definitely a step down from what I am used to and by no means is the Epic 4G a power house but I feel like I could be content with this phone, and play all my GBA games on it because of the keyboard. I would clean my Evo3D's screen on my own but I fear I may end up with more dust that I started with. Can you guys give me a hand here? I appreciate all your guys input, thank you in advance.
It's a great device. Even greater with a fully functional build of Cm9 Android 4.0.4. The build quality is definitely far superior to the Evo or Evo 3d. I've taken good care of mine despite not using a case or screen protector (I too am insanely OCD) and it still looks like it just came out of the box. I for one have been perfectly content with it and will continue to be despite having an upgrade till November when Google releases the new 5 Nexus devices.

I see. Now this is going to sound really outrageous but since sprint discontinued the Evo3D line, what are the chances I can complain enough to exchange my 3D for one of the old Epic 4G's they might have in the stock room, because I really don't feel like hastling them to replace the screen on my Evo3D for it to just get dust again in a month or so. But I mean I really like the Epic, and it has the cortex A8 or something which is apparently better than the OG Evo's processor. Do you know anything about the Epic's ability to run a GBA emulator? I really hope it can do fluid games with sound.
I have no issues with my screen, but i have dropped it a few times on brick and cement and just a few scratches is all the result was nothing major.
And to just say my phone out performs my friend's EVO 3D, and my mother's EVO 4G. As Well Stock Galaxy S2, My phone even looks better than the Google Nexus LTE ( Screen and Color Wise ) Thanks to Voodoo Color.

It should run that emulator like nothing. I used to play n64 on it. It was decently smooth. Also played psone and it was fluid as well. I can imagine gba games being even smoother....

I know Uber games on his not sure what emulator he uses but he doesn't have a problem. I also think he use's another kernel that allows for UV/OV. Look him up or wait for him to see this thread. He is pretty active around here despite being on the Gnex now LOL.

How in the world does it outperform them? Not saying I dont believe you, do you have any screencaps of performance? Just so I know whether to drop the money on it? I can get one used locally for like 120$ Then I can ebay the 3vo for like 150$ (minimum).

Of Course its going to cost more its newer and its "3D" big whoop the 3D was more of a noveltee, and it outperforms in a sense I can play games without lag, mine doesn't have issues with loading apps, I use stock sd cards to compare yet mine stock runs faster and loads faster. Real World Performance. Not some stupid app that tells me I have a bigger score.
Go to sprint and fiddle with the Epic granted it won't be rooted so you can't see how much better it is obviously compared to stock.

To say the epic screen looks better than the galaxy nexus's is a crock. I have both and have compared both. I have Gama and rgb control as well... and my screen looks ton better than my epic. So seriously stop talking about stuff you obviously know nothing about.(lost soul)
To the OP if you can't find a reasonably good deal on the galaxy S2 epic touch. Then I would go ahead and get the OG epic.
Voodoo sound and color is a tuning app. It allows you to adjust your sound card... and the color allows you to tune the rgb values ans the Gama values. It helps the phone look a lot better than stock values.

Gotcha, here's the thing though I found one for 79$ on CowBoom with only hairline scratches and a few of them to boot which sounds great to me. I really dont want to spend all that much money on the SII when I can save my money to eventually get the SIII or the GNexus. I really like the whole keyboard thing because I can play GBA games with some real keys, I just want to make sure the epic 4G can handle it first, Im looking for speed in CM9 or ICS, and great emulator performance at this point because I like playing games on my phone. Also Minecraft would be nice with the physical keyboard.

Gotcha. You definitely will be pleased with that then. It will run games pretty decently smooth. I cant speak for GBA myself but I do know that it runs the legend of Zelda like a champ. With minimal to no lag. And flawless when you over clock it. If your strapped on cash then yes this will be your happy medium. It doesn't out pre form any of the dual cores but its pretty up there.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has provided feedback to me, I really appreciate it because I just cant do HTC and their obnoxious build quality, light leakage, dust, etc.
I work with fiberglass for a living and often grind with my epic in my back pocket. I've never had an issue with dust under my screen. If anyone has a chance of getting it in there it would be me.

The screen is beautiful, the pentile is weird, coming from SLCD and QHD.. But from a distance it looks magical. Now I just need to let it fully charge up, grab the gba emulator and get rocking with this baller keyboard. The screen is very easy to look at, almost like it is soft, and lcd seems harsh now. If that makes sense.

The plus for the nexus s, atleast from what I can tell looking from the outside looking in, is it has a more active dev community. And don't get me wrong I am in no way shape or form putting down our magnificent epic devs

I would consider the EVO 3D, Photon, or the Nexus S 4G at this point. I've actually been using a loaner NS4G for a couple weeks and while I do like it, I feel it has a few shortcomings. Most of them I was aware of beforehand though.
I miss the LED light to indicate when there's a missed call/text etc. You can bypass this with getting a special kernel which can allow you to activate the backlights for the capacitive buttons, but under flourescent lighting at work its sometimes hard to spot that.
Also there's no SD card so you are stuck with the 16gb of internal memory. Not necessarily a huge issue but for some people it could be a problem.
Samsprint already issued an update to fix wonky reception with their radios. It sorta helped mine out but it still doesn't seem to match what I was getting with the Epic. That goes for 3G, 4G, and wifi. Kind of a bummer actually and this is what sours me the most on the phone.
I haven't actually seen a Photon yet but after reading one of the threads here on the Epic forum about it, I would love to try it out. It sounds like the battery life (with moderate to heavy usage) is amazing. The only way I get decent battery life with the Epic is to turn it into a dumb phone.
The EVO 3D was actually a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The 3D can cause a headache at first but once you find the sweetspot the 3D pictures and videos look amazing. It blew me away. My coworker has one after upgrading from the first EVO and he gets better battery life with it and he has the same apps and same usage patterns. So it is very tempting.
All in all there are a lot of good phones out there and its just a matter of preference and what you are looking for in a phone.
I'm going to have to recommend the EVO 3d. I was first concern about the lack of keyboard, cause I came form a long line of quarty keyboard phones. After the first week I no longer think about missing a keyboard. As far as the screen goes, the Epic is brighter. But the 3D is far more sharper and crisp. Sense 3.0 is a far better launcher then touch wiz or any other launcher currently in the market. Battery life on the 3D is 100% better then the Epic. Boy how good it is to, not have to worry about finding a AC outlet.
I would say just about any.
I am an htc fanboy so I would have to vote for evo3d which I have now. Even the original EVO 4G was a way better phone than the epic. Has it ever received the gingerbread update?
Sent from my EVO 3D on the now or later network
I went from 5 months on the Epic, had an Evo temporarily, and now Nexus S. The Nexus is by far my favorite, I plan on staying with a Nexus from here on. There ar things I miss about the Epic, but having a phone that you can do anything with is worth giving those things up. The Nexus flies stock, and you can run MIUI, CM7, stock, modified stock, the devs are close to porting Sense, and if you want they have tw4 available. I am using a modified stock rom right now and love it.

Really? You think the original evo was better than the epic? I had one and really didn't like it at all. Battery life was not as good and after a while it really started lagging with anything. When comparing to games on your phone the epic absolutely crushes the evo in my opinion. I'll also never be able to go back to a basic LCD again. The super amoled has me forever ...
I had the epic but bought the evo 3d. I loved the epic! But its no more longer the best on the market. It has a single core, all the phones now have a dual core. I love the qwerty keyboard on the epic! i miss it so much! If samsung made a 1.2ghz dual core, super amoled plus screen, qwerty kb, better software. Id deff buy that phone in aheartbeat. Love the epic. It deff was one of the best phones out. Best single core! Its so underrated tho! They never advertised it, it was never in the media. Thats why everyone thinks evo 4f is better than the epic bc sprint practically sponsored it! Epic never made it to the media! I'm now an owner of the evo 3d only for the devolopment, and love it!
-3D EVO-
Yes someguy, I think overall the EVO was way better than the epic. I never really play games on my phone so i can't compare that part of it but as far as running wise my EVO was always super smooth. I played with one or two epics and noticed lags here and there. I love sense so UI to me is totally more appealing than Samsung UI. Lots of people loved the epic but look at the support it got for gingerbread. Everyone has personal favorites though.

Hello everyone,
I am a current evo 3d user who is purchasing the touch tomorrow (and giving the 3d to my financee).
Why am I purchasing the 4g touch. We all know it is a fast phone, it is great, etc, etc.
1) I want a phone that is fast, and great out of the box. I don't want to have to root it, overclock it, etc to make myself feel like I got my money's worth. The epic 4g touch will accomplish this (not saying I won't root it, or flash roms, I always do ).
2. I want a phone that is future proof. I want to be happy with the performance of my phone a year from now. I have yet to have a phone accomplish this, and I don't have the money to swap phones every 6 months (though I wish I did). I believe the epic 4g touch will be future proof...even for an entire upgrade cycle.
3. I want a great screen. The evo 3d didn't have this...and that is inexcusable for a "superphone" that cost as much as a good laptop. The epic 4g touch arguably has the best screen in the market at the moment.
4. Touchwize 4.0 looks pretty damn sweet
What do you guys think? Why are you buying the phone?
Also, for those who have the phone, how is the screen? Is the resolution lacking on such a big screen? How would you rate the phone for viewing pdf's....etc?
I am a graduate student, I need a phone I can read on .

This phone stock blows a rooted and overclocked 3d out the water. I just switched from the 3d and its better times 10.
Better signal. Better screen...even at lower resolution ..exynos core is a BEAST..plays n64 games on emulator stock smoother than overclocked evo. Better cameras..better speakers...this thing screams dude. And most of all...its a GREAT PHONE before anything. Great call quality..stronger reception than the 3d. If your on the fence..jump man..it's worth it

Sounds like good reasons to me. The E3D is a great phone but I think this one is a little better all the way around.
I feel like the hdmi out would make up for the lack of a high res screen (even though it doesnt look any different from one that does). Just plus that sucker up to a cheap 10 inch hd TV and your set imo.

How much of a sore spot is not having TV Out on the original Epic? People go nuts over it whenever the thread gets bumped. If the WVGA screen uses any less battery than qHD then I can't think of anything I would complain about. I purchased 2 movies from Media Hub and, I am dead serious, the clarity is every bit as good as my 1080 HDTV...and that's on my Epic. I can't wait to see the same flix on the ET4G tomorrow since the screen is supposed to be a little better even. Power and battery life seem great from reviews, Improved Touchwiz..ok, I will give it a real chance. I can honestly see myself running rooted stock and not complaining abou it while waiting for the real goodies to get baked.

I'm coming from the Epic 4g and I loved that phone. I told myself I wouldn't upgrade until I found a true successor. With everything I have read about the E4gt i'm hoping this is the one. Plus I loved the developers for the Epic 4G and i'm hoping they come along to this phone as well!
I'm buying it because I know it's a beast of a phone that I'm going to fall in love with and appreciate for a very long time like i did my Evo was for it's time. But actually I am also buying a Samsung this time around because believe it or not, Apple is filing litigation against them. That unfortunately has become my litmus test of great products to come. As you can probably tell, I hate apple with a passion. Whoever Apple's suing the most at any given point will receive my business.
I am.... maybe buying it depending on Nexus Prime news or lack of Nexus Prime news over the next 4 weeks.
The deciding factors for me are:
1) The performance of the Processor and Video Processing. yes benchmarks doesn't fully tell the truth, but with out tweaking anything the numbers its putting it out is mind blowing. 90mflops with over 3000!!! Look at the gaming number too!!! next to the photon its a Tachyon!!
2) The Camera sensor. the only device to record at 1080p!!!! What is wrong with HTC and Motorola? why cant they contend with that ability. Its not a Android software issue. if the EVO 3D had DUAL 8MP EVO cameras at least then the EVO 3D would have had more stomping ground. More megapixels does mean a sharper image when sized down to smaller resolutions, to get real 35mm photo quality images digitally you need around 20 megapixels to equal the same sharpness and depth of analog camera quality. so in Digital Megapixel world less means LESS, yes the sensor may matter, but still digital needs more pixels to equal analog quality.
3) Battery Life. So far the reviews for Sept 15th are confirming that the battery life is better than the other 2 contenders.
4) THE SCREEN. 4.5 inches of pure bliss beauty. I cant wait to see the Samsung NOTE Super AMOLED HD 5 inch screen!!!!! too bad they couldnt have a higher resolution on the AMOLED + to the 960 x 540. Really I want the Samsung NOTE over the Epic now, but it looks like Sprint might not get it as in the specs doesn't show CDMA, still could mean a version for sprint may come out of the molds..
5) Software abilities, Yes Sense 3.0 still has amazing features that wont be copied, but then from the new motion sensing feature of Touchwiz looks promising. it was about time they used the motion/extra sensors to input with the software. Really I want full customization of any animated features for ALL phones, if you want a specific animated software feature, you should not be limited to only certain things per manufactures decision only be limited by the main operating system. If you want the cool Carousel feature of the main menu, Sense UI should not be the only one to have it. Heck having the carosel feature with shaking the Epic touch left or right with out using your finger would be KILLER. I also like the cube conveyor belt like feature of the Apps selection on the Nexus S. I have a few other animated features I want to see implemented that I saw with Ubuntu since android is based off of linux kernel, majority of all the Ubuntu like animated features could work on it. all in all the new software features is a serious worthiness.

Aside from the GPS, Samsung pretty much nailed the hardware in the Galaxy S line. Their Hummingbird based hardware blew away it's contemporaries, and the SAMOLED screen drew raves (although the pentile matrix display was docked points by some for the screen door effect and fuzzy text). But the software wasn't on the same level. Touchwiz 3.0 was not the greatest skin in the world.
The reason I'm getting the Epic Touch is because Samsung continued its hardware domination this generation, fixed GPS, went RGB stripe with the SAMOLED Plus screen, and, more importantly, worked very hard to make the software work on the same level as HTC's Sense skin. The result is arguably the best phone on the market (screen size preferences being the biggest deciding factor) and for what I look for in a phone, easily blows away it's nearest competitor. I am very, very happy that I decided to forgo the Evo 3D to wait indefinitely for the S2. Thank god it's here now, and thank god they moved to the 4.52" screen. The Epic Touch is basically my dream phone.

So what does everyone think of the resolution, specially those who are coming from higher resolution devices? It is up to par?
Thinking I might go pick mine up later today.

I did miss threw resolution of Photon for the first.5 min lol
But the color reproduction and screen size make up for it.

Yup. Sure do. But as already stated once I got my launcher and homescreens set up I don't even effin' care anymore. It could use a slight DPI tweak, but, nothing the native resolution can't handle.

Lol. You've gotta be trollin'. One of the major downsides to qHD is that apps that weren't made properly wouldn't fill the screen, and that's annoying as hell.
No, everything looks fine...fantastic even. Very fantastic. Stunning.
Sux...I barely got into setting mine up before I decided to head for a 100% charge. I got it at 45%, but, I plan on leaving the house for a while later and don't wanna risk it. (turned off so it charges faster)
I'm expecting it to be good battery life, better battery life, but, nothing staggeringly better.
Trolling? Hardly.... I just picked up mine own. I remember you from the 3d forums. How's it going. I assume your happier with this device? I sure am so far...
Hopefully we can leave this trolling obsession back in the evo 3d forums....
I only got the charge to 85 before I had to take it with me to lab. Battery is holding real well so far.

Much much more so. I am thrilled. I might actually keep this phone for a long while. I just have this feeling of complete satisfaction and no feeling of concern or worry that the E4G gave me but no amount of E3D's could.

True that
I dont know why ppl lying about photon display I saw it at the sprint store and it sucks than 3d let alone compete with epic touch.
In my opinion, this display looks much better than the pentile qHD I had on the Photon.
The way pentile cheated at resolution meant that its supposedly high-resolution was actually kinda a sham. When zoomed all the way out on webpages with fine text, it was ugly, and when scrolling through text like on the apps list, the text shrunk while it was being moved.
Here, the full resolution is actually usable, meaning that it actually looks higher-res than the Photon did to me.
The whites seem a little less white next to my Epic but I have a feeling they may be muted a touch to help with battery or something along those lines. I actually prefer it like this. My Epic is blinding at night even with brightness dropped all of the way down.

anyone play with the screen mode setings for like dynamic and such?
Actually, I'm having one issue with resolution..
I have some images of landscape I took while on vacation last year with my EVO 4G, used them for wall paper.
Put them on here (tried them on my daughters original Epic as well) and they images are fuzzy..
Any idea why?
Everything being so big on the screen cause of the resolution..?
I'm an OG Epic 4g user so naturally I was going to get the ET4G, I went into the sprint store to try it out and wow... everything looks huge on it. Icons, pulldown icons, etc. Now to be fair it probably is because I'm used to my 5x5 Grid settings on Go Launcher on my 4in screen, but I don't know it I'd be able to coop with things being that large on the phone.
What's your experiences and how are you guys managing with it like that?
Not knocking the phone in any means, just caught me off guard when I played with the demo and everything looked like I accidently held Control on my computer keyboard and scrolled up on the desktop haha.

Ehhh I've never been a fan of big screens and low resolutions.
My laptop is 17in and I run it at Max 1920x1200 resolution, everyone that uses it says they don't know how I can handle text being that small lol.
The Prime is suppose to be a higher Res though right? Wonder if it'll look the same though since the screen is also bigger...

Took me about 2 minutes to get used to it coming from a 3D. The only thing that really looked different to me was the notification bar...everything else kinda looks exactly the same.
The only thing I don't like about the nPrime and new Samsung "HD" models is the aspect ratio....16:9 SUCKS. Unless you've had a qHD device you don't know....your screen is so damn narrow (or short, depending on orientation) and it's annoying. Even though the resolution you gain from it more than makes up for it, the form-factor itself is extremely irritation (to some)...The only thing I miss from my EVO3D is the qHD resolution, but, the one thing I miss the least is the 16:9 aspect ratio....
...unfortunately it seems as though 16:9 is the new standard, so, this will likely be our final phone that isn't 16:9...
infuriating.
The ET is only usable to me with the density/dpi (there are apps in the market) changed down to 200 or lower. This breaks the layout of something TW things, but is worth it, especially for someone like me who runs as close to AOSP as possible and uses aftermarket apps for everything anyway.
At the regular resolution, this phone would be entirely unusable in my opinion.
For what it's worth, the lack of qHD isn't too bad. The other positives of the screen (super contrast, vibrance) subconsciously make up for the difference.
About 20 seconds. My big worry was the on-screen keyboard, but with a screen this size, I'm faster on it than I was my old epic keyboard....and it doesn't skip keys. Also, the camera is a major improvement over the Epics in every way except audio. I'm looking into getting an external microphone.

Ah I never knew of those apps! so from what I understand, they do make everything smaller like I'm saying?
You may have just swayed me back to the ET4G haha.
Something else I realized too though that only Epic users would feel, is that it feels well... Like the same ole tthing.. (Of course bigger and upgraded) but I'm not really sure I felt the "New" factor when I was using the ET.. feel like the Prime may make me feel the sensation of a new experience..
I completely understand you E3D users and you guys coming from other phones and the ET being a new experience for ya, but for me coming from a Epic its felt.. well the same lol
But I don't know if that's good or bad, I felt at home when I was using it.. But whats the point in buying a new house if they have the same floor-plan lay out so to say ..
Any epic4g (or other Galaxy S ) users feel like its the same ole thing and that the Prime might give more of a "Whoa this is new!" experience for us?

Sounds like a lot of us was expecting that EVO 4g experience, expecting to be blown away. I agree I haven't had a major wow factor since then. I don't see a quad core phone doing much for me either.
I set my dpi to 200 by editing the build prop, on the evo3d it was 190. Personally to me it the stock dpi looks like its set for people who are vision impaired.
I use a dialer app to fix the uneven look of the stock dialer.
What are you guys using to change the dpi? and the dialer?

To me, having Flash work in the browser and the ability to change font size was all I needed to see to sell me on it, the screen that is. I haven't even felt the need to root yet. Every other phone I've had, I had to root to tether so I could hook my UMPC up for browsing and whatnot. Since I bought this I haven't even turned the UMPC on.

I hear ya. Coming from an E3D it definitely has a new "floor plan"...
...however coming from the E4G to the E3D that also definitely had a totally different feel to me. 16:9 screen, qHD, Sense 3.0 (I hate sense)...and it sucked. All I wanted was the newest hardware. I didn't actually want anything else. The upgraded "experience" involves changing a lot of things that aren't technical upgrades and are entirely matters of opinion--and that leaves a lot of areas to screw up. Opinion can be a ***** like that.
So, excepting "experience" there is only hardware upgrading. This is definitely that....and while it might feel like a faster smoother version of the same ol' thing, Samsung's idea of a new 'experience' might be far more offensive than you would suspect.
I just downloaded tw 4.5 and set the app drawer to display a higher number of apps and the homescreen to do the same (more rows) Launcher pro can do the same. Also you can adjust the LCD density.
As for the original question, it didn't take any time to adjust to the larger screen although when I try to use my wife's OG epic I do notice how much smaller it is and that takes a minute to get used to. Also, I can't believe how slow the OG epic feels now that I'm used to everything happening almost instantly...

I didn't use the epic 1, I didn't and wouldn't pay full price for this phone, I had a friend sign up for sprint and took her new contract discount. She got my MoPho I only had for about a month.
First of all qHD pentile displays are technologically and visually inferior to the samoled display in the E4GT. This is without a shred of doubt the best display in the world right now. There are rumors that sammy is taking qHD where it needs to be at a bare minimum with the prime at a full 720p resolution. Please don't try to compare fake high res pentile photon or 3d crap to a amoled masterpiece like what the e4gt has. We'll see what samsung is able to pull off with qHD soon since samsung is the worlds cutting edge innovator in displays. I think samsungs real deal high res qHD displays comming out won't have screen door effect.

Ok...I sold my Vibrant which i liked ALOt...I need a phone and undecided between gs2 and nexus...I'm concerned that the screen with same res may not look as good as my vibrant ...so how is the screen compared to vibrant? Is the gs2 heavier? How would you compare it to the older Galaxy s (Vibrant)? Any input would be great!
The nexus has the older weaker gpu and a weaker audio and not sure its worth the premium...why they put that gpu in is just retarded. anyway this phone would cost me a whopping $749 shipped for old gpu and sub par audio.
I came from the vibrant... my reply to you is that the Galaxy II is the phone I wished the Vibrant had been. It's fast with the Stock ROM, the GPS is reliable and locks quickly, data speeds are fast and web browsing is just about as good as it is on my laptop.
I rooted and froze the required apps to get away from the tethering restriction and am playing with custom kernels to get better performance and battery life. I'd like to see Cyanogen Mod for this phone and will install it but for now for me the Stock ROM with the Synergy/Bullet Kernels does the trick!
I can't comment on the Galaxy Nexus as I don't have one but these are my thoughts on the SGS II from Samsung on Tmobile
good
I agree the S2 is what I expected of the Vibrant... I swore I would never do Sammy again but glad I gave them a second chance..

i loved my vibrant but i needed to upgrade to a bigger screen and since GS2 was in the market i grabbed it despite the lower res the screen looks fantastic i recommend u to stop
at the t mobile store and take a look at it, it,s also fast i rooted it and put custom rom now the phone is from another galaxy ^_^.... i was originally gonna get nexus but i don't wanna wait/and pay over 800$ for it SGSII is a great choice i made and i don't regret it
i upgraded from the vibrant to the SG2...i wasnt sure if i wanted to because i loved my vibrant and felt the upgrade wasn't necessary...then i found someone selling it on craiglist for $450 (great price, brand new) so i decided to sell my vibrant...it was a great decision...like everyone else said, its what you wish the vibrant was supposed to be...everything functions the same with improvements (gps, front camera, 4g, camera flash)...it was a great choice...and if your a guy who likes to root and do all that stuff its a great choice because ODIN is something you are familiar with...the SG2 is pretty much the vibrant with enhancements and a bigger screen...well worth the money, especially if you kept your vibe in great condition and are looking to sell it...i sold mine for about $200 so SG2 only cost me an extra $250..no regrets
Loved my vibrant. Got a super-sweet deal on my sgsII. A good choice. The thing I miss most is all the TeamWhiskey flavors for the vibrant. As soon as I get that it will be perfect.

Why did you sell your Vibrant if you liked it so much?
I also had a Vibrant, and really liked it. Awesome phone, EXCEPT that I really wanted a camera flash. I have kids, and I use the camera a lot, so a flash comes in real handy.
Anyway, to answer your question about the screen, the GS2 screen looks amazing, and I haven't noticed any degradation in visual quality, even though it's the same resolution on a larger screen. For me, it's a non-issue.
Weight? Non-issue. The GS2, though wide, is very light. And thin.
In terms of everyday performance, it's a great phone. Mine's rooted, and I'm running the Bombardier ROM, by TriCH. Great ROM, super smooth, no issues, and the phone is quick!
But does the performance blow away my Vibrant like I thought it would? No.
That being said, having the larger screen, camera flash, and solid GPS performance makes the upgrade completely worth it.
p.s. As far as graphics performance, I've actually had some stuttering during a few games (puffle launch, Angry Birds) that I did NOT have with my Vibrant. Go figure.
I loved my Vibrant, but my needs simply outstripped the processor and ram available to me.
I am in love with my SGS2.
There are only 2 catches I think you need to know about.
First are the issues with the lines on the screen--if you search this forum you'll find a lot about it.
Second, and most importantly to me, the DAC is just not the same as the Wolfson we had in the Vibrant. No Voodoo sound. However, none of the offerings we seem to have available to us now in the ballpark of processor and ram come close to what supercurio was able to give us there.
I have read about the screen issues with brightness on low...But i tend to keep my screen bright...I got rid of Vibrant because i wanted a larger screen and flash....I really want the Galaxy Nexus but i don't thinki can wait...Going to tmo to check out gs2....The studdering on angry birds is concerning..I don't play many games ..pretty much just pokerist...But there shouldn't be any issues running a game like angry birds.

did you read the other section?
you only need to install spare part, and disable old apps compatibility mode, which causes that problem in 2D games
I'm still inside 14days and trying to decide if I'm going to keep my SGS2. It took me a long time to get my Vibrant to the point where I was happy with it and I'm not sure if the flash and front camera are worth the $.
My other concern is that swype is awkward to use with one hand because this phone is so much wider than the vibrant. That plus continuing bluetooth problems are probably the two biggest reasons I would return this phone.
Even though the resolution is the same as vibrant it still looks really nice but YMMV.
