Odd question - About xda-developers.com

Is it possible for individual users to configure the way the forums are presented to us when we log in? I only participate in a very select group of forums here and it would be nice to hide the ones I am not interested in and only display the one I do participate in.
Is something like this possible?
Thanks,
-Eric

I believe you can do this already in compact view

Or add some to your avorites.

Keep an eye out for some changes coming soon which includes a different way to view the front page after you log in so that only "subscribed" forums will show. We hope that this will cut down on page load times considerably since many members have just a few device specific forums that they read.

Filter forums

Hi guys,
If I can make a suggestion to the forum usage, most users here would love to be able to mask out forums related to phones they do not have, OSes they don't have and so on.
There's a great hack to vbulletin that will allow us to choose what to see and what to hide.
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=98360
DESCRIPTION
Ever came across large boards with a huge number of sub forums? Couldn't find your info? Wanted to run away from that huge load of stupid threads? This hack is intended to save your users from having such a horrible experience. It provides them with an opportunity to exclude any number of forums from the forums list (as well as from "get new"/"get daily" searches), which still letting them to access those forums directly and search within them, too.

Interesting, you might want to post it up on the Sticky: "(requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins".

[Q] Members Online Tool...

Well,i see on the end of the page, the members who are online at that particular moment...cant we make it forum specific???i mean this would help members to see who is online in their respective forum and thus,if there are questions,we can PM that without wasting much of a time...this would also help the forums be more friendly and helpful....the Members Online tool is a good idea, but it doesnt really reveal as to which forum the member belongs to...also,hunting for a green spot along side the names in the threads becomes tedious and time consuming...
I'm guessing it would add a performance overhead to the page load times. Not many people visit the index.
It's up to the admins whether or not this get's changed though.

Well it could always be made an option that is disabled by default. That way only users who really would like the ability would see it (it could be coded in such a way that there would be no wasted resources used if disabled). Personally I would like to see this and some donation-users only features. I think it would be a great way to add services while covering overhead prices.
$Not many people visit the index.$
when you mark all forums as read your go to index..
please hide this featuare.. ..online user.. for my an normal user is unusable.

I was just thinking of a sort of buzzer (with a chat option) to get someone attention, for now if you have a conversation with another member you always have to refresh your page to see if you have an pm.

[Q] Viewing a parent forum on web-site

I have searched and can't find a reference to this. Previously I subscribed to each of the forums within a particular device's area, e.g.
HTC Desire S
General
Question & Answer
Accessories
Development
Themes & Apps
The problem is that when you are following three devices as well as the 'General' forums it means a lot of scrolling up and down on my mobile device. I have noticed that using the XDA Premium app I can actually subscribe to the parent forum (e.g. HTC Desire S) and this then appears in the app, with the ability for me to tap on it and see all the sub-forums. This is really useful. The problem is that the web-site version seems to then lose those forum subscriptions entirely.
Is there a solution for this, or is it just a 'feature' that I will have to live with?
I tried finding a solution to this a while back but there's no way to do it, unfortunately.
Hopefully the admins would think about implementing it if you make a request for it. It's definitely a good idea though.

Thanks for that. Request made - let's hope it is something they can implement fairly simply.

Hopefully yeah. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for them to do.

xda needs threads inside threads

xda forum posts are a pain to search through- multiple topics are discussed in a single thread for a rom, a thread system like reddit would make this site so much more efficient to read. Alternatively, posts could be auto-tagged or categorized by issues and the user could filter based on those tags- imagine clicking on the tag "camera" and getting posts related to camera issues/solutions rather than reading through the whole thread. :silly:
Great idea, I've never thought of that...this could make it too easy to read the threads like u mentioned..this feature can be made for Android Development and Original Android Development sections, but one does not simply ask for a change. :silly:
(and you earned your first thank from me)

I agree with you. magnificent
We have a search function on the site and in our app also. Your idea is very good though, probably could reduce a lot of useless post and unneeded Question thread. The only issue I see for this though is implementing this into xda, one way we could do it small sections at a time. I'll bring this thread up with other mods and Admins for sure.
But it would make things horrible in large threads. Everybody would be wanting to participate in the main convo of the OP, and irrelevant issues could be dragged on and on; both of which would defeat the purpose.
Plus, there would be countless possibilites where a new post would appear.

Why not be able to choose the way you view the thread and subsequent replies? (Also, they can be hidden from view unless clicked on)

You want threads inside threads and just make more mess of the current layout and then more mods when not needed. Just leave things as they are. No need for more mess and more mods running around the place. :banghead:

Yo dawg, I heard you like threads, so I put the threads inside your threads, so you can read the threads while you read the threads
-sent from my awesome phone-
If you're using a browser, go to the top of the page and check under "display modes". One of them allows you to see the thread in conversation mode, so replies are tied to posts, making it more of a treeview.
I think this is what you're asking for.
If you're looking for it on the app then you'd have to speak to the Tapatalk developers about integrating said display modes into their app before it ever made its way into the xda app.

I don't think its a good idea. With that xda will become very messed up and not noob friendly.

[Q] instagram hack

XDA Is not the site where users ask for hacks or warez...Log off and try other places, XDA is NOT the answer....FSM Naddict has approved this message.
Wow, I don't even know where to start with you.
First (and most obvious), settle down with the huge font size. You're not going to get a better answer just because you highlighted and supersized the text. You're just being obnoxious.
Second. This forum is not a place for "hackers," as you're likely thinking it is. Please take a look at the Forum Rules. We are not a bunch of Scipt Kiddies who just want to mess with others privacy and screw around on their accounts. What we are is a group of developers and enthusiasts who want to get the most out of their phone's hardware and software. Posting this type of crap on our forum sullies our good name.
I look forward to when this thread is locked and deleted.

Again like I said in your other post. Private photos are made private for a reason. Likewise, xda will not help you hack a password. This community is not about what you ask. Go to your local jail and ask the criminals for help.
