Ah, I get this problem sometimes.
Remove the headphones, then put them back in, and then spin the headphone jack five times, it sends the signal to use the speaker for audio output instead of the head phones

Maybe just to give him the benefit of doubt he actually meant for radio. If so go to settings and select speaker to get 'musuc'out the phone speaker

[Q] Atirx Car Dock Low Audio?

Anyone else seeing very low audio levels through the car dock? Anyone have a fix for this?
(example, my car radio through the dock is turned up to 36 and is still lower than the handset itself when the radio is set to 20-25)
I haven't noticed the audio being any quieter but I have noticed the quality isn't as good as some other phones i've owned. When at full volume it seems to peak easily on the highs and lows. I assume you've turned the volume up when the audio jack is plugged into the phone?

yeah, the volume is all the way up. I'm going to test my room mates car dock and see if maybe i just got a defect.

I messed with the eq settings and they don't seem to effect the output much. I tried my roommates dock and his is rather low output too. ('m only compairing the output difference from the headphone jack to the dock output.)
I took apart the dock to see if I could find any modifiable pieces, but it simply has two boards (one for input one for output) and a few unidentifiable chips (probably usb ID and audio decoder built in) As for now, I've just stopped using it. Gonna call Motorola Monday, to see if they have any advice.
Yeah, i'm having the same problem
Try to get them to send you another one to try. Mine sounds the same as just using the 3.5mm jack.

Wait.. you guys have a car dock that has audio out but doesn't use the 3.5mm jack? Audio out from what? HDMI?
What's the name of this car dock?

Yeah, the Motorola one has audio out of the micro usb.
Called Motorola, and after about 5 minutes of, 'turn your phone off then back on' bs, the lady told me to return it to at&t. I'm amazed at the level of superior customer service. /sarcasm
At this point, if anyone is interested, there is a product called Boostaroo that will boost 3.5mm headphone jack output, and it runs on 12v. I'm probably going to pick one of these up and wire it inline with my car dock. They are about $50, which sucks, but if it'll work, I'll be happy. Will advise when I get it in.
My wife and I just tried her Atrix in her car both via 3.5 mm and USB and both sounded the same. Maybe you do have a bad phone *shrugs* I will try to go check on mine after it charges, if I remember.
Sounds fine from my car dock, same as my iPhone that was hooked up through a direct iPod video cable. How are you plugging it into your headunit in your car?
I have a 3.5mm aux port, and we've tried both phones, on both docks, and get the same result.
I have the car dock and the level is great. Yesterday I was listening to music while parked. I got a text and the volume went low after the text message and stayed low.. I think it went back up after the next text or something weird like that...

[Q] Weird Audio Out Question

I didn't even know where to begin searching for this, so I thought I would just ask.
I was camping this weekend and wanted to use my phone for some music. I had spotty cell coverage where we were, so getting anything to stream smoothly was out of the question and I have barely any music actually stored on the phone.
Then I remembered: the FM tuner! I had an audio cable in the car I use to connect the phone to my car stereo that would work perfect for the antenna, but then I realized I had no speakers to plug it into. Which leads me to my question: Is there a way to have the audio come out of the speaker despite something being plugged into the headphone jack? It would be perfect for those times when I want to use the FM radio without using headphones or external speakers.
Thanks in advance if anyone has an answer to this.
Why not just unplug the jack if its not being used??
Nevermind. I misread that. Discard what I said above lol.

lol, of course my car has a radio! I knew there would be confusion with this
"Something" needs to be plugged into the headphone jack for the FM radio app to work (I assume the "something" serves as the antenna). I want to be able to plug the audio cable (that I normally use in my car) into the headphone jack to serve as the antenna, but have the audio come out of the phone's speaker, since I had nothing to plug the audio cable into in the middle of the woods.

[Q] Sound Output Problem

Hey, I'm in a weird problem at present, by chance the golden tip of my earphone got stuck into the earphone jack and the technician said he couldn't take it out as its too small. So I can't hear a sound nor I can speak on phone because the nexus thinks the headphone is still plugged in, so I have to buy a new earphone jack. My questions are:
1. What will be the amount/price of a new samsung earphone (internal part with mic) jack.
2. Or is there any way of disabling the sound from the speaker and change the settings that sound is played through speakers despite the phone thinks earphones are plugged in?
Thanks in advance, please help.

I had this problem when I tried the Motorola headphones on my Samsung.
Are you using the original Samsung headphones?
If so, make sure the jack is firmly plugged all the way in.

Im using my Sol Republic V10's. I was having the issue this week and last night and it wouldn't do it on my Note 1 or Note 3. This morning I plugged them in my tab and the problem was gone. I'm worried somethings wrong with the jack but I'm gonna swap my headphones out at best buy today and see what happens. It's seated in the jack real good by the way.
Sound is amazing. I own the Sony X Headphones (MDRX10)
Yup it must have been the connection. New headphones, no issues. Just need viper and life will be good!

Strange 3.5mm jack problem between my phone and my BMW.

Hi,
I've got a very strange and annoying problem. I've got a Nexus 5X and a 2008 BMW Z4 3.0si Roadster with a removable 3.5mm audio cable.
I've tried my Nexus 5X with 3 different cable on a lot of other car, hifi stereo and earphone and it always works (the sound go to the other device the way it should work).
I've tried 5 different phones on my BMW and the sound go to the Z4 speaker the right way.
But when I try to connect my Nexus to the BMW 9 times out of 10 the phone doesn't recognize it and continue to play the sound on the phone speakers. The strangest thing is after that half the time when I remove the cable from the car but keep it on the phone it recognize the cable and stop playing music on phone speakers. At this time I can connect it again to my BMW and then the sound go to the car speaker.
I can't understand anything about this problem and it's driving me a little bit crazy. Sadly no Bluetooth on my lovely Z4.
Anyone as an idea ?
Thank

Did you try pressing really hard on the plug? It is a very tight fit to the point you feel like you might be breaking the port, but it loosens over time.

Yeah of course otherwise it wouldn't work on my hifi stereo because I use the same cable.

The reason I ask is it still works if not plugged in all the way, just the connection is not that reliable. Quite a few people though they had it plugged in all the way and they were getting sound, but sometimes sound would switch back to the phone. It turned out they really needed to push in the cable really hard.
Does it work if you start the music after plugging in the phone? That's how I have to do it in my POS Dodge work truck.

Nope and it makes no change if I plug it before or after the music start playing.
It looks like my BMW send to much power and the phone try to protect itself or some kind of witchcraft like that...
