I use navigation a lot, I currently use a clingo which is great, but the vent mount clips are now loose. Now looking at a dash genie, anyone got any recommendations or review of a dash genie? Thx

Only two choices for me - the genuine Samsung job which is supposed to be about £30 ish, or a Brodit pro-clip. I've had these ever since the N95. Great kit, moulded to the phone, active or passive holders. But you have to wait a while for them to release it.
I wonder if the official Samsung one will have a line out like the S2 mount?
How about one with clips for the AC? That's what I'm looking for.
Mobile Fun sells those car dash mounts for a good price. They have an "ultimate pack"
I am giving one away on my site if you are interested check out the link in my sig.

I'm also a Brodit fan. Problem is I am planning to get the Samsung flip cover which has the replacement back. With my GS2 I just take it out of the case to put it in the passive holder but that won't work with the flip cover. I don't think Brodit do a kind of grip holder to attach to their vent attachment which I use.
Looks as though there's no line out on the Samsung one

The last couple of Brodit holders I've had have been very poor quality. The mounts are ok so I've connected third party holders to the mount.
The holder that I linked to is apparently a Samsung one and looks like it will work with a phone in a case
Samsungs original car mount is disappointing without the ports that the s2 & notes car mount have had.

Some of the sites I've seen show this to be described as a universal adapter, for Galaxy S3 AND other phones, other sites indicates this is designed specifically for the S3, and most don't seem to show a micro usb connection.
What gives? Is this or is this not a specific S3 device?
Yes this time around Samsung has released a generic car mount capable of scoring any Samsung device that covers between 4.7" to 5.3" which is printed in the car mounts box.
:-(
The one shown in the expansys is for s2 or for the note. Do not fall for it as it will not fit for the s3.

I have the Samsung car dock for the s2. It is slightly different- the back hole for the camera is different than that of the pic in the link above for eXpansys. Also the note and gs2 are completely different in size. The one shown in the picture for the expansys website is not adjustable.. at least I can't see any sign of it adjusting.. even the car mount for the s2 is not adjustable for a different device. So it could very well be for the s3
Here is the mount for the s2. Pretty similar but its not the same mount as the one on the expansys link.

That looks like the S2 mount listed here:
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-car-holder-for-galaxy-s-ii-217880/
But I think the S3 mount they have pictured is the Note mount
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-ori...-galaxy-note-5-3-car-charger-included-224728/
Think Samsung have dropped the ball in only providing a universal mount and not one dedicated to the phone. Looks like Im waiting for Brodit.
I will be trying my Exogear exomount when my S3 arrives, its the best universal holder i have had.
What about the Exomount or Osomount?

I have the Spacemount, and it's fantastic. The only thing I would tell you to beware of is excessive heat (like leaving it hooked on the dashboard during a hot summer day). It'll degrade the amount of stick & suction it has, although mine still works well enough.

I'm using a generic holder which is now many years old, has served me through a few changes of phone (as has the car it's stuck to), and looks exactly like this one....

I have the official Samsung car dock on my xmas list and my cheap holder will suffice perfectly well till then.

Here's the one I ordered
Yeah saw that last night. that is eactly like sgt car dock i have, except for a smaller tray.
Seems sorta pricey- i got my sgt one for 39 before a 20% discount. order directly from sammy....
Fwiw the arm/suction aparatus on my sgt dock is rigid and didnt rotate. this really limits mounting options. . this oem gnote one looks like the same (just different tray).
. . . still looking...most of the universal ones seem to have lots of bulky clamping mechanisms. . .yuck. .

I've sent an email to them as well.
I got the answer that they do not have any plans releasing a holder for Galaxy Note, due to the fact that it has not yet been released.
I got the reply from Brodit on the 26th of October so perhaps they are now looking into creating a holder for the Note...
If anyone wants to email them to create a buzz/demand for the holder, please feel free to do so...
I guess the original car dock won´t work with the flip cover on?

I have been told by one supplier on eBay that the official dock is not compatible with the Note while encased in a gel type skin. It's the same story with the desk dock too. That's put a bit of a dampener on them for me, as they were both on my xmas list. However, weighing up pros and cons I'd rather keep the case on the phone than have the convenience of the official dock. A universal dock and a loose lead will have to do for me, which is what I'm using at the moment.

Official G Note car dock should have the micro usb plug on the dock itself so it's possible to just attach the phone to the dock and you get also the power supply without connecting manually the power supply cable . Finally they made it...

I've been using a bracketron vent mount with my galaxy S2 when I got my Note the mount was able to hold it horizontally but not vertically little too much weight up high. When I got the flip case cover I thought this would never work but to my surprise when put the flip top all the way over I can clip the case to the bottom of the mount and holds perfectly in the vertical position. The phone is still supported by the 2 feet at the bottom. The small clip that I used was from Home Depot think it was $.99. Pretty good temporary solution for me.

My idea is to install a Brodit car holder, so I only need some "universal" mobile-holder.
I've already seen some, for exemple this one from Brodit,
but I don't know, if my Note will fit with the gel case installed.
Does anybody of you got an idea?
Thanky guys (and grils)!
I'm using a universal phone mount from eBay, look for 'Phone CD Mount'. It mounted to the CD opening slot.

I've bought Herbert Richter car holder:
http://www.amazon.de/Herbert-Richte...=sr_1_2?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1323077084&sr=1-2
So far I have no case on the SGN but I'm sure it will fit with any case that is not thicker than 5 mm on sides.
It's made in Germany and you can immediately feel the quality. It's sturdy and seems to be pretty solid, with option to rotate thanks to ball-head.
Capdase Cigarette USB Car Charger for Galaxy Note
I did a lot of research as well for the one that can hold the Note in a case.
Liked the Brodit one for the custom made feel, but it doesn't work for me if I need to take the case on and off everytime in order to put the phone in the holster.
Then I found this Capdase one that is perfect for this Note as it has USB jacks to charge as well.
Just ordered this one. Couldn't wait to get it. Will review soon upon receipt.

are we sure that this exomount works with silicon case?
Original poster,
I have the same gel case as you have shown in the pictures. In my vehicle I use the Bracketron PHV-202-BL Grip-iT GPS and Mobile Device Holder. I have two of them. One is mounted to the air duct. The other is mounted on a McAllay adjustable cup holder arm (because I already had that and the Bracketron fits on it). If you want a cup-holder mounted solution then you could probably use the Bracketron UCH-101-BL Universal Cup-iT II Mount with Grip-iT for GPS. Of course, you have to take into consideration your car's cupholder configuration.
I use two docks because for GPS I use the one mounted (up) on the air duct and for all other uses I place the Galaxy Note in the cupholder mount for easy access as my arm sits on the center armrest.
This official Samsung car mount works on multiple phones, not just the S3 unlike the S2 car mount I had which only worked on the S2 and only when not using a case which was a double whammy of a negative for that mount.
Have Samsung learnt the error of their ways and improved this new mount? Let's find out...
This kit comes in 3 parts, the S2 mount comes in 2:

The ball joint clips into this socket while the screw tightens the fit:
Unfortunately Samsung didn't leave room for arm adjustment so the number of ways to point the mount is very limited again, just like the S2 mount, you need to have it quite high up on the windscreen to get decent movement of the head:
Ultimately it still suffers one of the main flaws I found on the S2 dock, lack of adjustment and being aimed at windscreen mounting only as opposed to dashboard discs (see pic below). It's less advanced than the S2 mount because it doesn't have a socket the phone sits into to activate car mode, but if it did it wouldn't work on other phones whereas this one will work on almost any phone that's of compatible width as both side arms retract in and out.
So it's just a car mount that's tough and sturdy in motion, it doesn't vibrate and the suction is very strong but for what it costs I'd much rather recommend the Nokia CR-115 with a bit of DIY to the stock arm padding (remove them and replace with thinner pads) to work on phones as wide as an S3 because you get better movement and a slimmer profile for easier storage. It also costs less than £10 depending on where you shop. I also think it's by far the nicest looking mounts out there and because it's a genuine brand made one, it's good quality too.
Nokia CR-115:
Update:
The modding has started early I was looking at the ball joint and then at the ball joint on the Exomount car holder and realised they looked the same size....
So yeah, now I have a car mount that is sturdy and of excellent build and sticks to almost anything

Couldn't see many comments about the Pleomax car mount in this forum so I thought I'd give some feedback because it's fantastic!!!
Official page (took me a while to navigate the korean to find it lol). Not sure if this is the exact same model as the width dimensions are slightly different, but the illustrations are still useful.
http://www.pleomax.co.kr/service/pr...2&SearchData=&SearchPageSize=9&oidProduct=432
Positives:
- Suction is really strong and stable. It has a simple switch mechanism that helps the suction cup grip strongly. At first I was baffled because it wasn't sticking, but then I realised I hadn't taken off the plastic protector that was attached to the suction cup lol.
- Overall build quality is great. All functions work perfectly. Rotates 360 degrees yet sticks in position nice and firm.
- Works with a range of phone sizes (Not sure the exact range - SGS1 and 2 work fine. I'm not sure about the note - but I saw another pleomax dock on ebay that said note2 on it - not sure if it's the same dock or a slightly bigger.version).
Negatives:
- Not solely tailored for the SGS3 (although I'm certain they tested/designed it with the S3 in mind)- the grip prongs are a generic/flexible fit which means the phone probably doesn't slide in a smoothly/easily as a set i9300 dock. However, once it's in it is very snug and well fitted.
- No frills product. It's just a dock - no electronics (usb audio) or anything. However, this probably isn't a negative for most people - this is the type of dock I wanted (it is very easy to get a usb cable or nfc tag to put phone into car mode or output usb audio).
Overall:
Best dock I've ever used (well.. I previously only had an awful generic one from dealextreme lol.)
Pleomax is a Samsung subsidiary/brand (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleomax). The Box is branded with "Pleomax" and "Samsung C&T" and lives up to the Samsung quality we are used to .
I bought it off this seller http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ORIGINAL...es&hash=item1c2690c4ce&_uhb=1#ht_12286wt_1159
The price at $20 is not cheap, but compared to the cost of most other docks I consider it quite reasonable (especially for a samsung product).

I bought this late last year, while it does work well for most smartphones, it is NOT in any way durable. Just wait till summer comes, those arms will break like twigs when you go to put the phone into it, I had two so far since the retailer sent me one free of charge because of it breaking. It broke using the Galaxy Nexus (without a case on I might add)
also I wish people would stop calling these "MOUNTS" a dock, a dock is something you insert the device into to add functionality. A mount is something that holds something.

doesn't look pretty cool... I think you can find something more fittable and with better construction...

The new iBolt xPro car dock is pretty much a universal solution that also charges.

I had some eBay bucks leftover so I found the All Fit 3 and ordered it for a total cost of $4.32. Hopefully my experience will mirror the OP's.

Took it awhile to get here so I kind of forgot about this thread. I'm quite happy with the mount overall, very sturdy and well built and holds the phone very strongly while easy to get it in and out. You'll need to buy your own adhesive though to mount it to the dash most likely since it doesn't like to stick to 2 out of my 3 car dashboards by itself.

Thank you, I've just ordered it (the '3'), for my S4, I'll have to wait some time for delivery too though. I got the twin 2 amp charger from the same manufacturer too.
Cheers!
Looks not secure enough, I'm worried about the phone could probably drops, and it's not cheap actually
How do you mount nexus 5 in your car. Post!
I'm using this: a 2 in one mount. It's an aged mount for my old s3, but it also fits new nexus 5 perfectly.
I have used this a number of times now. It holds the phone very solid.

I love my Tetrax FIX. I don't have my Nexus 5 yet (arriving tomorrow), but my wife and I both have Tetrax FIX's in each of our cars, as well as the attachments on our two current phones (HTC Evo 4G LTE & Samsung Galaxy S3). I'm assuming the Nexus 5 will still work with the Tetrax, as it is designed to be minimal and universal.
I usually wait for ProClip to come out with a new phone holder.

+1 for proclip. I am using the iPhone proclip holder and holds the nexus decent.

Problem with these magnet solutions is that they interfere with wireless charging. :crying:

Oh crap, I didn't even think about that! Thanks for pointing that out bleuiko. I've been planning to use both the magnet car dock and the wireless charging, but now I'm going to have to make a decision between the two...
Pro clip. Just waiting on the to make the Nexus 5 dock.
Here's my N4 rig which is not surprisingly also my N5 rig. In my 2006 Mazda 6. Simply blocked the middle vent with a round plastic disc and attached the clip with it's suction cup.

I have been using Tetrax for years on my iphone and my s4. I use an x-way version so i can landscape the phone easier. main issue issue get getting the dam metal dots to stick to the cases It generally boils down to a good chunk of crazy glue. Main issue is i plan to use wireless charging with it and i don't think having a steel disk glues to back of phone/case most likely will impair that. I was looking at buying an I-bolt.
proclip for sure. that's the only mount that will ever go in my car
*EDIT*
turns out it fits in my Nexus 4 proclip mount... but Google/LG decided to flip the micro USB port so i can't use the same hardwired charging cable (it's a right angle plug) without cutting it open, which i'd rather not do... but it fits, just no charging :-/
Just an fyi, according to the proclip facebook page, a person asked if they would get one for the N5 and they said they had picked up two devices and should have a mount ready in 4-6 weeks. They said updates on the nexus 5 proclip would be available via the facebook page.
I've just received one of these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007Y94CPO/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The quality is great, and because it's universal i won't need to buy a new mount for every new phone in future! The arms are spring loaded and released by a button on the back. Put the phone in, squeeze the arms together and it holds the phone perfectly. There's also a really nice rubber padding on every part that's in contact with the phone.
Most of the Amazon reviews are really positive too. I can't see there being any issues with it even after years of use. It really is a solid product! :good:
I believe the most convenient solution would be to use a Qi car dock: no connection needed and accommodate most cases. I looked around a little but but haven't found many options that look like they wont break down in a year
There is This one
That one (more expensive)
And This incredibly expensive LG official solution. (it got me thinking about making my own...
Any thoughts ? I really don't want to connect and dusconnect usb cables all the time ...
I bought this a while back for my GS4.
Works really well even with my ringke slim on the GS4.
To my surprise, it works with the N5 and without adding the thin metal plate as the N5 has the steel discs already built into it. It's not super strong like using the thin metal plate, but it holds fine.
The material on the mount (on top of the magnets) is also like that of the back of the N5 so it does rotate fairly easily once mounted so maybe in a landscape view, if not centered, it would move some on a bumpy road.

FYI the N5 is polarized differently than the N4. I realized this today driving to work in the SNOW. I can't see the screen at all when the phone is in landscape mode and I'm wearing polarized sunglassses. I don't particularly like portrait in the car, but my tasker/rotate workaround which isn't perfect (for google's RIDICULOUS decision to rip car mode out of android) coupled with the polarization issue will force my hand.
This clip rotates easily, thankfully. I know for many of you charging in the car dock is a must. For me I've learned to live without it.
i use the brodit proclip from my nexus 4 fits perfect
I absolutely love my Kenu Airframe so far. I'll have to see how it works in the winter with hot air from the vent blowing on my Nexus 5.

I use the Mountek nGroove - goes into the CD slot.
