call and ask the store, the one by me has no problems with a rooted phone unless you are there with a software issue.

Just call like he said and ask. Since there is a rattling, I would hope they can see it isn't software related, so you shouldn't have to unroot for that.

If the phone is older than 1 year, it's out of warranty anyway. I don't think insurance cares if the phone is rooted.

They didn't care when I activated my already rooted EVO. Just flashed it back to stock to not confuse anyone. Luckily, they did not pay attention to the fresh install of Superuser. The guy was an iPhone user anyway. Addicted to asking Siri for everything.

[Q] Unrooting Evo

My wife recently dropped her phone and has to send it in to get replaced, so now we need to unroot it. I went through all the steps of unrooting to get s-on which it now is. The only problem was when I tried to reinstall the PC36IMG.zip file it says the version is to old and cannot install. I was wondering if anyone has the link to the NON ROOTED OTA PC36IMG.zip. Or I am wondering if she downloads and flashes the update.zip file if it would it delete the superuser app??
Please help
From what I've seen on here, when it comes to physical damage to your phone, Sprint no longer cares if you're rooted, only if you brick the phone will they not honor the warranty.

Not true for me at least (Boston area). My phone randomly reboots and the usb is broken so I couldn't unroot so I took it to Sprint and they said its against policy to work on rooted phones

They have already sent her a replacement phone. I am not worried about that. I just want to return the phone without any questions being asked.

They wont care, when they refurbish the phone they are gonna update the software anyway and totally wipe your phone, erasing whatever you had on there

I would go to a different Sprint store, your phone being rooted has nothing to do with your USB port being crappy, same thing happened to my USB port, I took my phone in, explained my phone wouldn't charge (by then my battery was drained) they went to the back and brought me out a replacement. The USB is a known issue with the evo they should have replaced your phone

Yeah the fat b**** in the back of the store that repairs the phones wouldn't even touch my phone when she heard it was rooted... and when I did unroot she gave a time of 2 hours just to clear storage on the phone even though I said I already did that. On top of that they said a replacement would be available over night... two days ago. Now I'm stuck waiting

So I guess it vary from store to store. I think my store might be cool. Actually one of the techs there taught me how to unlock my old palm pre. Oh and my usb port is starting to go. Does anyone know how it might work out if you just "lost" your phone?

Messed up display after dropped phone. Green tint! Help!

So I dropped my epic at work today and everything works, but now my display is tinted green. I'm on legendary. I know it's probably hardware issue and needs to be returned. Haven't reflashed or anything yet. Any advice?

Odin phone back to ec05 stock , pull ur sd card out and take phone to sprint to check out. Do not show them ur sd card (because it will have clockworkmod). Don't even tell them ur phone was rooted. Just show them the problem and that's it. As long as u have total equipment protection, u should be fine.

Sounds like you knocked the ribbon cable to the LCD loose if you have TEP let Sprint fix that for you.
Clockworkmod isn't on the SD card... it has its own partition on the onenand. I'm sure they wont care if you are rooted but just in case follow the restore the epic from the brink guide in the development section.

This color tint happened to me. Take it sprint and they'll fix it for free(if you have insurance). You don't have to Odin Sprint don't care about phones being Rooted.

The store near me acts like they've been covered in acid. The tech won't go near them. I asked him why and he said that his training never covered the differences between rooted and non-rooted phones so he doesn't want to brick them and end up owing the store the money for a new phone to give to the customer. These are the same people who think it's alright and normal for my mother's phone to drop every other call. YMMV with Sprint stores, there are really good ones and really bad ones. Remember that if they treat you poorly there is no requirement for you ever to give them your business again.
Hey guys, I just want to thank everyone for all the advice! I Odin'd back to stock ec05 went to stock EI22 and brought it back to the sprint store. I was convinced it was a loose ribbon and that I dropped it, obviously, and told the rep. He responded we won't tell [the tech] them that. They said they needed it for 1 hour and a half.
I was hoping they would fix the phone and tell me what the problem was. They just replaced it with a new one (maybe refurbished :\ ). So I didn't get to find out the problem.
Judging by the way they handled it they probably weren't concerned if it was rooted

Exactly, it's a hardware screen issue rooting won't cause that. And that's why they wouldn't care.

LOL.. Hey did your phone screen look like a old school GameBoy Color??
I took my phone to Sprint to get it fixed for another issue.. and they gave it back to me like that.. I asked them about it and they said thats how I gave it to them.. they straight lied to my face..
I didnt give it back for them to fix it becauce I didnt want them to keep it for ANOTHER 3 IN A HALF HOURS..

[Q] What do you think??

Here's what has happened....
I purchased my SGS2 Saturday April 14th, I rooted it same day, I flashed TDJ Warefare. I noticed on the 4th day after getting my phone my calls started to drop like crazy. Like every other call was dropping or they couldn't hear me. So I called Tmo they walked me through troubleshooting, that didn't help. Took it back to the store where I purchased it this past weekend the sales rep said it sounds like it's a bad sim card. Ok so they changed my sim (of course I rooted again tried Jugganuats this time) and the phone was working fine until yesterday it starting dropping calls. SO I took the phone back and they switched it with a new one.
I would like to know from you all should I try rooting again?
Please don't flame me for asking this question or if it's in the wrong section of the forum.
I would just like your honest opinion as to what If I should or not and if I do, is there a solution to the dropped calls????
Thanks all
Rooting has nothing to do with your dropped calls. your first phone was defective.

Let me ask you since it's not the rooting what do you think it could be??
Did you do a factory reset before taking it back?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Rooting will not affect the signal or radio. Would suggest that, stay on stock ROM for a week or so and see if you get drop calls. If not, then try another ROM and if you get drop calls after that so it has to do with the ROM.

Depends on the insurance. Need more info. Also a diff between rooting and being caught rooting. If it is working enough for them to tell you rooted on a claim it is working enough to reverse before you send it in. Some insurance don't care either way.

If you shatter your phone and they replace it I don't think they will have a problem replacing it if its rooted.
Besides, if your really paranoid just tell them you dropped it in a lake, (It happened to me once).
um I have asurion as insurance i dont know if by more info this is what you meant.

Warranty yes, insurance no. Rooting voids your warranty, not your insurance. Insurance covers physical damage, so if you hard brick your phone, just to be safe you "accidentally" dropped it in the bathtub.

I think you'd win in small claims if Samsung denied you warranty because you rooted your device, assuming there is a product defect.
To be honest there's also a choice DONT ROOT. It seems like it's all new to you, and believe me Samsung phones are way easier to brick than LG or HTC if you don't read carefully. Look if it's worth the risk playing a android game with a ps3 controller or loosing your phone for a period of time. If you go ahead and do it make sure you BACK UP YOUR EMEI, many times that gets overlooked when it's really the most important thing in your phone.

Just read, read, read. Then read some more. Make sure you fully understand every possible thing that can go wrong (I.e. Losing imei) and how to fix it. If you know what can happen, and how it happens, you will know how to avoid those things. Never have the "I will cross that bridge when I get there" attitude. Almost everything that can go wrong is 100% preventable/curable if you know about it ahead of time. If you don't feel like you can explain to someone else how to root or fix their phone, you're not ready yet.

No problem haven't rooted mine and I rooted every other phone I have. I just feel android is android it all looks the same. Not much difference between roms apart from the speed with build props and bloatware free. While you can always prepared yourself 100 percent there's always that random encounter that you can get with electronics that is not your fault and just happens.

I need to take my phone up there because the phone is having problems with the battery and I've done everything I can. I have insurance on the phone and also have Android JB 4.1.2 and I'm rooted. Is there anyway to hide it or should I even care?

I wouldn't know what happens if you're going through T-Mobile but I assume you'll be fine if you're polite and explain you don't know what's going on, insist you've been with T-Mobile because of their excellent support if they make a big deal about it. Asurion the insurance company working with T-Mobile will take it anyways because they just fix it and that's it and resell it. And because you pay a monthly bill they're making money off of you regardless and you still have to pay a deductible.
But you SHOULD really return to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4
If they see that the phone is rooted, they'll just simply do nothing for you. That's why people say "your warranty is now void".
Do what is mentioned above or take your chances and hope the T-Mobile rep that is assisting you doesn't check to see if the phone is rooted or check the flash counter.

Oh, simple enough then! Just go to SuperSU and unroot.
You could even try to temp unroot if you think that's all you'd need to do to hide it.
Befire you unroot though, do you have a custom recovery or kernel installed? If not, then run triangle away, then unroot. If you do, reflash root66, then use TA and unroot.

What's the problem with the battery?
I like the features I get with my stock build, but I'm considering a root for better control over my apps, (Greenify, permission control) so this thread seems like a relevant question.
Is Triangle Away and unrooting all it takes to make it appear that I haven't done anything?
The warranty issue is the only thing stopping me, it's saved me a bunch in the past...

I rooted my phone once, but I will never do it again after what happened. Last year I rooted my GS3 and about a week later, my local T-Mobile store called my phone unexpectedly. The guy on the other end told me I was due for a price drop, but I would have to come into the T-Mobile store to sign the paperwork before it would take effect. 2 days later I stopped in to get the discount on my monthly payment. The T-Mobile employee said he would have to look at my phone just to verify that it was the correct serial number. He went into the back room and said he would be back in a few minutes. 10 minutes later, a police officer walks in the store and asks my name. I'm totally freaked out wondering what the deal is. He asks me to turn around a puts hand cuffs on me. The officer told me I was under arrested and being charged with "rooting a mobile device". I was booked and released, but I would watch what you do to your phone. Good luck.

Rooting a device isn't illegal. They can kiss my ring. Think about it, if it was illegal why are root apps allowed on Google Play? And also, why is XDA not been shut down?
Methinks something else happened there. Maybe you voided their warranty and tried getting a discount which may be against the rules. Or something. But I know for a fact this is legal. Unlocking is a different story however.
So my advice, root on my brothers it's the only damn freedom we have left here in America.
