[ROM] ODIN STOCK Verizon Galaxy Tab EC02 with Working Modem - Galaxy Tab Android Development

So I made a an ODIN package that has Verizon Galaxy Tab 7 CDMA Stock ROM with EC02 and EC02 modem because I've had the EI04 give me problems with loss of signal. It may have been the kernel or just the baseband, but it would only give me problems.
Here's an ODIN tar package with MD5 hash included that has everything + superuser and su. If any problems, just data wipe in recovery.

Idea to pull the kernel and Radio from T Mobile Galaxy S II stock rom

I do have an idea to download an odin already rooted 2.3.5 rom other than TMO Galaxy S II stock excluding the kernel and modem to keep the original kernel and radio in the TMO Galaxy S II. The idea is to use this procedure to pull the kernel and modem out of the Galaxy S II. Most important is to make sure that the phone can boot after odin download of other than original TMO galaxy rom. Can any one familiar with making an odin rooted rom create odin PDA file and of course excluding kernel and radio which should remain in the phone.

[Q] How to install offical tmobile JB rom to Canadian version T999V

I am waiting for Mobilicity to push OTA update to Canadian version Galaxy S3 T999V, but it is not coming out yet. So I am planing to flash tmobile rom to my phone by using Odin. I know that Modem is different between T999 and T999V, but the Odin T999V rom is in one file, I do not know if it will update modem or not. If I fresh T999 rom but the modem is wrong, will my phone still boot? Can I fresh a T999V ICS modem after I install the T-mobile JB rom? Thank you!!!
I'm with Wind, but your phone is exactly the same, and I chose to install jellybean for TMO.
Use "Mobile ODIN" and not ODIN. This app will allow you be more selective with the update. Update all partitions except the modem/radio.
I don't even know if ODIN can do it, I'm sure it can, but I'm just not comfortable enough with all of ODIN's features to try different options. I have only used ODIN to install back to factory with the original firmware (all partitions including radio).
I suggest you try Mobile ODIN, but have the oem 404 firmware also available, in case you have to use ODIN to do a full recovery.

Does framaroot works with this device?
It worked for me on 4.1.2 and then I flashed 4.2.2 via mobile odin without any problems.

Mine is the international version.
I just followed the instructions in the framaroot thread whilst still on 4.1.2.
Installed supersu, mobile odin, Titanium Backup and busy box from the play store.
Installed CWM and backed everything up.
Then I downloaded and flashed the UK 4.2.2 rom with mobile odin.
I wasn't as happy with the modem in the 4.2.2 so I extracted the modem.bin file from the Australian 4.1.2 and again used mobile odin to flash it.
That's it - it was one of the easiest I've ever done.

Hey Cheryanne
I am wondering if you could help me out? I want to know how you extracted the modem file, and flashed it. I installed the Civato ROM CivZ-FLEX-BEAM-REV3.6.1 + SphereXtreme and tried to go into a stock Australian Samsung 4.2.2 ROM zip file with 7zip, and I did find the modem.bin file. I copied it to another folder and tried to install it on the Note 8 through Mobile Odin, and no luck. I even tried normal PC Odin, and no luck. I tried zipping the file, and saving it as a .TAR but it didn't work.
Any chance for a bit more detail into how to extract and install a modem file? I have searched through the XDA site, but details are lacking (especially for the note 8)
You flash the actual modem.bin file through mobile Odin. It should be listed under the modem section after you find it through open a file and choose it on either your internal or external storage (wherever you saved it).

Hey Cherryanne
Thanks for the guide and making your modem file available. I followed your instructions but had no success. Baseband did not change after Mobile Odin flash.
My process:
1. I downloaded your modem.bin file to my Note 8's External mem card.
2. Flashed it via the "modem menu" in Mobile Odin (clicked on modem, found the file, then clicked on "Flash Firmware")
3. Firmware went through flashing proceedure without any issues
4. Checked the baseband version in Settings--> About Device, and it didn't change from N1520XXCMG7 (UK one that comes with Civato's FlexBeam ROM).
Am I missing something really obvious??? Am I taking crazy pills???
Help me Cherryanne Kenobi...you're my only hope!!!

SOLVED
Ok, so the process of flashing a modem over another modem is as follows:
1. Extract a modem.bin file from a stock ROM of choice (I used Cherryannes dropbox 4.1.2 Australian Modem). But you could also simply download a stock ROM from SamMobile for your region, and then use a zip program (like 7Zip) to explore the ROM contents, and find the "modem.bin" file from that. Make a copy, and place onto your Note 8 (internal or external SD card).
2. Make sure you purchase the "Mobile Odin" app from Play store.
3. In Mobile Odin, find the "Modem" menu, select it, then navigate to the file called "modem.bin" that you got from the Stock Samsung ROM for your region.
4. After selecting, it will return you to the main Mobile Odin menu. Select "Flash Firmware" menu item.
5. Check the box that has "Wipe Davlik cache" so it is on.
6. Mobile Odin will now flash the modem.bin file.
7. If you check your Settings-->About device you will find that your baseband has not updated (well it didn't for me).
8. Press and hold the power button on the Note 8, and the recovery menu should come up (if you are using Philz touch recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287802). Select "Reboot". Then a 4-way reboot option menu comes up. Select "Reboot into recovery".
9. Device will then shutdown and go into recovery. As it does so, it actually flashes the modem file at this point.
10. Restart will occur automatically, and android files will be updated.
11. After it boots, a check of the settings will reveal the baseband has been updated.
12. Done.
Thanks to cherryanne who pointed out the direction. Dumb luck got me the rest of the way.

[ROM][4.4.2][Dec-2014] AT&T I317-UCUCNJ1/MJ4 *Stock* Odex & Deodex

First release (2014/12/14): Stock & Rooted Android 4.4.2 packages for the AT&T i317 Note 2 (firmware version UCUCNJ1) in Odin and recovery flashable formats.
Second release (2014/12/28): Rooted/Deodexed version of same, with restoration of SELinux file context security info, (eliminates issues when returning from custom kernels).
These are options flashable from custom recovery (CWM, TWRP) or via Odin. They are built from the Nov 2014 stock OTA for the AT&T I317.
** They do not include bootloader or tz files (you have the option to flash these later if desired) **
** IF YOU ARE ALREADY ON THE MK6, NE5, or NJ1 BOOTLOADER (OR ABOVE) FLASHING ANY OF THESE PACKAGES WILL TRIP THE KNOX FLAG **
These packages are intended only for the AT&T version of the Note 2 and include the modem for this phone. Flashing on any other North American Note 2 will result in a soft brick and require a re-flash of the modem specific to your phone. Flashing on any other phone will likely require a complete reflash of your phone's stock firmware to recover - do not attempt. The other standard disclaimers apply - while these packages have been tested and work on the AT&T i317, you assume all risk in flashing.
All stock firmware packages include the system firmware, kernel, and modem from UCUCNJ1. The rooted versions include Linus Yang's build of busybox. The rooted Odin package includes a a slightly customized kernel (I added init.d support for some cleanup scripts that were needed). The full packages do not include recovery, bootloader or tz (you install the last two separately via Odin if needed).
The stock packages do not include root access - you will need to flash SuperSU separately if you use these packages.
Install instructions:
For Odin packages a format of /system from custom recovery is strongly recommended prior to flashing. (The CWM/TWRP packages will do this for you). If you are coming from another stock-based i317 firmware data/factory wipe should not be necessary. If coming from any other firmware (or if after flashing you get stuck at the Samsung or AT&T boot logo) data/factory wipe is recommended from recovery. Make any needed app and SD card backups beforehand.
**NOTE** Odin ZIP packages should be unzipped ONCE. The extracted MD5 file should be placed in the PDA slot in the Odin app. Do not change any other options. If the phone shows up on top as COMn and the MD5 checks out OK in the status window, you are good to click Start. **
1 - Download the package(s) you plan to install.
2 - Copy any CWM/TWRP packages and SuperSU (if needed) to your phone (external SD card recommended if you need to do a factory reset)
3 - Install a current custom recovery - I've been using Philz CWM v6.48.4, but current TWRP or standard CWM should also be fine
4 - Boot recovery, perform needed wipes (see first section under install)
5 - Flash package (Odin or CWM/TWRP)
6 - (Stock packages) Boot phone once, click past any setup screens, let settle for a few minutes
7 - (Stock packages) Boot recovery, flash SuperSU
8 - Boot phone, (click past setup screens), run SuperSU, disable Knox - SuperSU will hang - wait a minute, restart phone
9 - After restart, run SuperSU again, disable Knox again, this time it will take
10 - profit

Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 here for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.

If you *are* running 4.3 (MK6) or 4.4.2 (NE5 or NJ1) bootloader:
]After flashing one of the full packages, you may need to flash the NJ1 tz.img and optionally the param.bin (from the MJ4 leak). The param.bin is sometimes needed if you are on one of these bootloaders and have previously reverted to 4.1 firmware. The zips below contain Odin packages for NJ1 TZ with and without PARAM. If after flashing the stock package and you are on one of these bootloaders, try flashing the tz only package first (in Odin), then the tz+param package to see if this gets your phone to boot. You may also need to boot recovery and do a factory reset.
I've also included a final option which adds the NJ1 bootloader if you want to upgrade and lock your phone into this version. If you are on MK6 or NE5 (or lower) bootloader you can optionally flash the bootloader package. You will not be able to revert to an earlier bootloader version once you do this. Do not attempt if you are already on the NJ1 bootloader - you will soft brick your phone and need to flash something else in Odin to clear the brick. (I recommend something small, like a recovery, or one of the TZ only packages here if they match what you have on your phone). If you flash the bootloader package you can safely flash the file containing the param.bin afterward if need be.

• Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSu - we wouldn't have root access on 4.3 and above without his work (consider donating to him or buying his pro version)
• Thanks to designgears for the initial 4.3 leak, which gave us the 4.3 bootloader/tz allowing revert to earlier bootloaders
• Thanks to Linus Yang for the busybox build
• Thanks to @dicksteele for help testing the "return to stock kernel" restoration processes
Release Notes - 2014-12-14
* For those running the MJ4 bootloader: Same issue exists as with NE5 - cannot charge with the phone powered off. It will turn on. One improvement: Modem no longer appears to get borked on boot in this situation. The solution to this issue is to update to a current (locked) bootloader - so you have to decide what's more important, ability to revert, or powered off charging.
* The rooted Odin package includes a modified version of the custom kernel which runs init.d scripts immediately. The version of the custom kernel available in the OP waits for AOS to start before running scripts. The version in the rooted Odin package is only needed for the first boot, so feel free to replace with the either kernel version available in the OP or other custom kernel versions that may be available once the phone has booted at least once.
* If you are running stock or rooted MK6 or NE5 you should be able to flash any of these with no need for a factory reset or data wipe and keep your configs. Same may hold true for earlier stock releases - I have not tested. (As noted in the OP when coming from a non-I317-stock config more aggressive wipes of data/cache/factory reset may be required.

Used the Rooted Odin method. Been running for about 48 hours now. Everything is working great!
Thanks so much. Great job!
Hi Zen,
first if all: thanks for your great work! You rule! And of course Chainfire, designgears and Linus Yang as well.
One question: I am on your previous stock rooted NE5 with TWRP. Do I need to flash the whole thing or can I just flash the NJ1 modem provided here? Does it make a difference anyways?
Again: thanks so much and keep up the great work!

The new NJ1 modem will work with the NE5 system firmware if that's all you want. The NJ1 system firmware is primarily a security update with a few minor enhancements. As stock releases go I'd rate it an improvement.
fwiw, I'm running NJ1 across the board with the custom kernel - there's an app in the Play store called Boot Box which presents a bunch of boot animations sized correctly for the Note 2, when you want to customize just that one thing..
As always much appreciated.
Wife's N2 has been nagging about a new software update. Now it can be done the Zen way.
Great job zen

Have been running release 1 for however long it has been out. Runs like a champ.
I would like to try the deodexed version when it is released.
Will I be able to flash that over the odexed version, or will I need to wipe the phone again?
Is there anyway to get tethering work?

Yes.. Any of the cwm/twrp flashable packages will wipe system first. There is no need to wipe anything else if you are already on stock firmware like NJ1.

You would need to customize by replacing the appropriate tethering apk's with ones which have been modified to remove the carrier validation check. A search of custom stock-based rom threads may provide the file(s) you seek.

With NE5 there were issues going from the Agni kernel back to the stock kernel. Phone soft bricked. Recovery required a full nandroid restore. I didn't sort out the root cause.
I expect the same for NJ1 - will be able to confirm once I test, probably this weekend.
Hi Zen,
I just installed the TWRP, rooted and something happened. After the phone started I get thousands of "unfortunately the process ... has stopped" which is mostly android.process.acore, LogsProvider and S Suggest. But others too.
Do you have an idea what to do? restarted a few times and clicked through all of them. Seriously hundreds. At some point I get to the lock screen. But as soon as I unlock I get a lot of these messages again. Clicking through them for a few minutes lets me end up at the lock screen again.
Thanks for your input.
(Since I am not a super-flashing-pro please be a little more detailed with what to do, like a short step-by-step. Thanks so much!!)

Please provide some detail around your config beforehand, whether it was working OK, and then specific things you did that led to the issue.
Also - Which method did you use to get to NJ1? What wipes did you perform beforehand? What did you flash beyond the base package?
A quick way out of this may be to flash the rooted cwm package. You'll need to copy this to your sd card and flash from twrp.
Hi Zen,
I was on your NE5 rooted deodexed version from earlier this year before and everything was running fine.
I downloaded the rooted Twrp version here on the phone and used flashify and twrp.
The process seemed working good. No errors or anything. After the reboot I have the above described "problem". I just saw the agni discussion. I think your former package had the Agni in it? Has that something to do with it? Can I go back to that one first to fix it?
No additional packages, not even before I flashed this one. And no wipes either.
Thanks for your help!

• Thanks to Linus Yang for the busybox build

Zen... thanks for your continued love and support for the AT&T Galaxy Note 2. I've been running the rooted NJ1/MJ4 firmware for over a year... never a problem... rock solid. Also, I like staying on KK 4.4.2 as mods seem to be easier (i.e., editing/swapping out pngs etc). Anyway, quick questions for you:
(1) Is there a Deodexed Rooted NJ2 "ODIN" package... or just the Recovery flashable package?
(2) most likely will stay on MJ4 BL, but curious... after all this time, is there any advantage(s) to upgrading to the NJ2 BL (i.e., does Android Pay play well with older BLs, etc). Understand once I upgraded, KNOX will trip and there's no going back.. just wondering is any advantage. (or conversely, potential for opening Pandora's box for more issues by changing BLs)
Thanks again pal for the continued support and stellar work.
If there's demand I can make an Odin of the deodexed firmware. That said, the recovery option is cleaner - it wipes system for you.. Odin does not.
Not sure about Android Pay - I don't use it. I know on MM it looks for an unaltered system partition. That's definitely not the case when deodexed.
As for bootloader, the only downside I've seen is inability to revert to earlier bootloaders. The Knox flag shouldn't matter anymore as I don't think any Note 2's are under warranty. Personal choice.. I'm on NJ2 on one phone and MJ4 on the other, fwiw. No real difference. Only thing I've seen is that with NJ2 bootloader you can turn off the phone, plug in a charger, and it stays off while charging.
Zen...
Thank you !!
I was looking at flashing NJ1 and doing OTA....but I lost a device EMMC a few days ago doing exactly that. ... (bad encryption issues)...
This is perfect. ..no more OTA...g
Hi Zen, why does I317-ODIN-UCUCNJ2_BL_TZ.zip contain two tar files?
"AT&T i317 ODIN 4.4.2 UCUCNJ2 SBOOT.BIN, UCUCNJ2 TZ.IMG (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)"
contains:
I317_UCUCNJ2_BL_TZ.tar / I317UCUCNJ2-TZ-PARAM.tar
I was only expecting to find the first one.
A - It's good to have options?
B - Thing is a terrible dyslexia?
C - I forgot to delete the other tar file before zipping?
The tar files are named correctly ... Use the one that matches what you are looking to install
I seem to be having issues. I rarely post as most things go super smooth but I cannot get this one to stop boot looping on me. Through Odin, I flashed the rooted version. It went into bootloop as soon as I unplugged the usb cable. I then flashed the tz without param. still looped. then flashed tz with param and a wipe in TWRP. Still looping. I am coming from the NJ1 file, though admittedly when I turned this phone on this morning It was in a boot loop which was odd as I never once had an issue. Any thoughts?
Was your previous rom/firmware 100% NJ1 (kernel, modem, system)? If something custom you may need to revert back, make backups (TiBu), factory reset, reflash this stock package, and restore non-system apps/data.
As a first step you could try flashing the custom version of the NJ2 kernel from recovery (see OP). It includes some repairs of the data partition to recover from running kernels that completely disable SELinux. You could also try wiping the system partition first before flashing the whole package... Odin does not do this, the cwm/twrp version will.
That said, if your phone was bootlooping before you made any changes it may have other issues.
Prior version was 100% NJ1 including bootloader all done through odin via your prior thread. I flashed this update via odin, it says pass every time I do not get to the att screen. I'm suspecting something happened as it worked pretty flawless up until I went to turn in on yesterday morning. I tried flashing everything again today, even the NJ2 bootloader, and it got to the att screen then just turned off and that was it. Luckily, and sadly, I was using it only as a media player.
Try flashing a custom recovery - I use the last version of Philz - 6.48. Boot that recovery. Do a factory reset. Format system. Wipe cache and dalvik. Using ADB copy the CWM package you want to phone (/data/media/0). Flash that package from recovery.
If you are not comfortable with ADB, replace the last two steps with flashing the Odin tar.md5 file you used before (try extracting it from the zip again just in case).
Im using the latest twrp 3, and i tried this yesterday. I couldn't get passed the boot animation. I flashed the nj2 bootloader. I tried the deodexed+rooted version. Then I tried dna4 and with that i couldn't get to the boot animation. Just kept powering on to recovery.
If you are coming from a ROM with a non-stock kernel you will have to do one of two things:
1 - flash the "custom" stock kernel zip package in the OP (this fixes most issues with the data partition after having run with SELinux disabled kernels). You can go back to the stock kernel afterwards if this works.
2 - If #1 doesn't work, clean wipe factory reset from recovery (this will wipe data partition - make backup and copy off phone first)
Otherwise, if your phone is other than an ATT Note 2 you can try flashing the modem for your phone last. Might work. This firmware is intended only for the ATT spec phone. See OP for details.

3G connectivity is near **** out of the US on this modem. It keeps dropping of mobile internet connectivity. Is it because I am out of the US?
