Pretty muched Bricked ? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Well first let me start off with I did not do this LOL
My customer decided to try and ICS out his not even 8hr old ET4G And did not call me first like I told him too. I am not a CPU oriented guy infact the only reason I even have a pc is this phone when I had an evo it was all unrevoked one click and flash a zip. Well eonugh bout that.
What we have is the "firmware interupted please select revovery in kies " with solid blue light, Normally I would odin it back to life , we whatever he did is not allowing that it doesnt seem to be connecting to the cpu at all so my question is if he didnt have usb debugging checked is there anyway to get this thing back to life?
methods already explored odin one-click and odin oc tar neither of which did anything
thanks in advance and I know he can just return it and say it was defective but I like to try and find solutions if i can its funner that way

Sounds like he flashed another SGSII (GSM) firmware. Only because Kies doesn't have recovery for the CDMA devices. lol I think your customer made a boo-boo.

I'd try the traditional odin with all the good stuff like re-partition checked.

Jtag it for like $45

Yeah mobiletechvideos.com jtag service if you can't get the phone into download mode for sure. Hopes it 's not the eMMC permanent dead chip issue.
http://www.xda-developers.com/tag/samsung-epic-4g-touch/

Bricked to the point not even a jtag can fix. Your customer should've checked around the forums before touching ICS. Take it back to Sprint.

Try to put your phone in download mode, using the key combination (volume up/volume down) at the same time, then plug in your USB cable that will put you in download mode, and then use Odin to flash Bubby stock kernel. If you have access to recovery, (volume up/volume down/power) and let go the power as soon you can see the Samsung logo, then just flash the last ROM you were using before your mistake. This is if you already have a ROM that you can flash via CWM in the SDCARD of your phone. If you don't have a CWM ROM in your SD Card ODIN is your best friend. Hope this can help you.

[Q] Super-bricked!! Any ideas? (fixed)

Fixed with Odin. Simple. Thanks guys.
Did you try charging your phone while in download mode? If so, charge with the phone off (Should see big battery icon) Another option is to go to a sprint store and see if they have used epic batteries they are willing to give away. I've read in xda that some sprint stores give them away. Also, maybe try using a different charger
Sent from my Epic Galaxy S2
Just go into a service and repair sprint store if you have one around you...they could charge the battery directly (we have a fancy machine for that), or they could flash it back to stock for you, and probably end up using a spare battery they have on hand....seriously, rooting doesn't void your warranty with us. And even if you don't have TEP, software updates are free. And most nice techs will do any software related things for free.

Never tell sprint you rooted, just play dumb. I'd call sprint customer service and ask for a replacement. Did you get TEP? If you don't, get it. Maybe they can do a warranty replacement. Tell them you took it to the store and the guy you spoke to was rude and said he can't help you. A replacement phone sounds like your only option right now.

You really don't know anything at all do you?
A jigg will only save you if download mode is accessible, when flashing anything ICS incorrectly or using CWM touch you could easily destroy your partition, this means no more boot, no more odin no nada. The emmc chip is a gonner except with j-tag. If you don't know anything, you shouldn't speak, a usb jigg is for soft brick, not hard brick hence the terminology soft brick (repairable) hard brick (unrepairable) read my thread before your screw yourself too. if you don't believe me just try it, and then test your lil fancy jigg then you can hit the thanks button for knocking some knowledge into you noob.

Normally I wouldn't answer, because this question should be posted in the Q&A board, not here, but....
You hardbricked. WHen you try to turn on the device, you just get a solid blue LED, right? That's a hardbrick. Most likely because you did not follow the instructions in the OP telling you DO NOT FLASH ROM/KERNEL FROM ANY ICS RECOVERY. Only flash from EL26 StockCWM
If you have device insurance you can get Sprint to replace it, so long as you don't tell them HOW you killed it If you DON'T pay for insurance, it'll cost $35 to replace.
Moral of the story? READ THE OP. TWICE.
well my bad thanx no way to get it to turn on

Most of this is true. However, Sprint doesn't care HOW the phone gets bricked. I work for a Tech Store in Buffalo. If any tech/rep tells you that they won't replace a rooted/attempted root phone, call them a liar. Tell them to check Sprint's M&P's (methods and procedures).
That being said, rooting STILL voids your warranty, but Sprint is supposed to work on them. Chances are we just flash stock and work on it from there.

I manage some repair shops. Last one I saw, last Wednesday, I couldn't get it going. I only had about an hour to mess with it, but I couldn't get anything to work. I wouldn't say I had completely given up, but given my resources at the store, it wasn't happening. Neither of the 2 computers we use in the tech room would recognize the device in Odin mode (while it read other Touches in Odin mode just fine). It would recognize the device if you booted regular and let it sit on the Galaxy S screen, but flashing wouldn't work and it would never advance past that screen. We just ordered a replacement for the guy. He had flashed a ROM from an ICS kernel.
Only problems I've had on mine is losing signal and the phone going into Airplane mode on rare occasions. Power button menu will actually say it's in airplane mode, too. Turning it off usually fixes things. My phone did have LOS problem initially, but that went away once Samsung updated the modem awhile back. So, it does seem that I end up in low signal situations now and again. Currently running the FC05 modem.

Because technically you voided your warranty by flashing software to your phone... It says that everywhere there is a big difference between rooted and custom firmware.... That would be why most everyone has a USB jig to reset the flash count in download mode ....

Glad to hear you're getting a replacement. I'd been think about this microcode thing, ever since you posted about it in the other thread.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcode
I have a feeling the tech was using the word "microcode" as a synonym for the phone's firmware, taking the stance that the only way for the firmware to get wiped was if you manually flashed your phone. They're replacing your phone because 1) they really can't prove you rooted and flashed it, and the microcode thing was bull**** and 2) at the end of the day, they have to replace your phone anyways under warranty if you didn't drop it in the toilet.
If Sprint techs had some other way to identify that a phone had been manually flashed, other than the known methods, I'm quite sure the good folks at XDA would already know about it.

[Q] brick'd or not brick'd

my phone was on aokp and fine but i decided i just wanted to go back to the blazer i had

ICS isn't unstable you just messed up basically. This is why you should read the brick threads and warnings first about flashing between ICS. And gingerbread. Your phone sounds like it's bricked. Sorry dude.
As for the guy with the boot loop. You're probably not bricked you just need to try and get into download mode and odin a stock rooted rom. How long did you pull the battery for?
Under volting can cause boot loops but your issue could be a combination. I would post in the brick thread. Someone experienced with that problem can help you.
I recommend pulling the battery and waiting an hour or so then redo it.
Good luck!

That's possible if its some proprietary cable. These phones use a standard mini USB to USB so any standard generic cable should work. I use a really thick and durable Logitech cable that came with a mouse, or sometimes a generic super long one I have that's like 10 feet

Ok u guys to to read the OP again for what your flashing you cannot flash any ROM from ICS right now it has a high risk of brick if your going to flash an ICS ROM the best bet is from a cwm based kernal like EL26 not Rogue and you shud be back on GB so use one of SFhub packages it takes an extra 10 minutes tops

Wow. Now you're spreading more misinformation. You certainly can flash roms from ICS recovery its just not 100% safe in all versions and flavors.
Its generally user error that's causing the bricks. The OP will usually claim he did everything perfect but 99% of the time it comes out sooner or later they did something wrong out of haste or neglect.
You're not necessarily helping though with your false info. No offense intended I just don't want you further confusing some poor noob who takes your word...
And just to further clarify: yes odin'ing stock EL26 is safer than flashing from ICS based CWM.

No. You just flat out said you can't flash from ICS CWM. I was clarifying that is not true. Don't take it personally.

@Carbajal, yes it's your LG cable. I have same problem with same cable (from Optimus S). Sammy cable will fix it if you still have it. I forget the specific reason why but in layman's terms it was explained to me that the Sammy cable may have a longer pin which triggers the recognition. If you search the Q&A forum you should be able to find the thread.

As you didn't clarify it before, did you try the Sammy cable provided with the phone? If that isn't doing it you may want to check Device Manager (assuming Win PC) and make sure nothing is disabled or not working properly. I mention this as it happened to me once when I tried to reassign the COM ports to use CDMA Workshop.

Word!
It freaked me out when I first tested this phone months ago since I came from Optimus S also. Didn't want to unpack all the accessories so just used the cable that came with the LG Optimus S, would charge, but no data. Thought the USB port on the E4GT was busted. Then tried 2 more LG Optimus S cables with the same result. Was about to return the phone when on a whim unpacked the flimsy looking Samsung cable and voila, it worked.
That flimsy looking Samsung cable has gotten me through over 300 flashes now w/o ever having a cable related problem.

ross, this is your problem. i'm in the same boat. in that thread, someone was able to repartition the /data partition to his sdcard and it worked (albeit at the cost of sdcard space). worth a shot, but keep up with that thread as it's pretty active.
Thanks guys who inputed about that LG cable. I took me a while to find my original sammy cable!! but my phone workds again and im soooooo happy. Thanks a bunch.

I did this sunday morning, trying out AOKP. Read that there was a possibility for corruption, did it anyway. after deciding it was too buggy for my liking as a daily driver, i attempted to go back. Tried my USB Jig with no luck.
Took it into Sprint on Monday, an hour later the tech tells me its toast. (Tell me something I don't know). I tried so hard to weasel out a new White model.
I've got a refurb'd black model and i'm suspecting there's a few issues with it. Its completely stock, no root. I've had to reboot four times today already from not turning on or coming out of sleep. Then every so often the phone will not stop vibrating during a haptic feedback response. I've turned haptic and vibrate off, but it still locks up on occasion. Funny but weird as hell. Probably gonna take it in later this week and try my luck again at getting a new model.
