[Q] Question regarding Galaxy Nexus GSM

Do you guys have any news about a possible GSM version of the Galaxy N?

I hope soon. I'm returning my GSII since I'm w/in 30 days - I'm going to hold out for the Nexus. If it doesn't come...whatever, I had my fun w/ the GSII already.

Not sure if this helps but, called t mobile about my plan and just asked if they were doing anything for the new nexus, and I was told yes they will be supporting it, it is in the system but you can't buy it straight from them. And it sounded like he didn't know about it but just went down some list of Samsung phones on the computer, "nexus S....umm, galaxy nexus? Yes we are supporting it."

The phone mentioned there is pentaband and will work on pretty much any GSM/HSPA network including AT&T and T-Mobile.

If you did some searching, or, took the time to actually watch the keynote, you would notice that there will be an GSM (quad band) HSPA+ (penta band) Nexus.

Here in Italy hdblog.it have a Galaxy Nexus that works with italian network, that are the same of T-Mobile.

Verizon GN LTE and GSM?

I've seen some eBay auctions selling the Verizon GN LTE but they also say it is GSM capable. Just wanted to check with someone if they know there is such a variant. Or does the Verizon version support GSM and I just didn't know about it?

each handset has different hardware, completely different radios.

It's just ebay's default phone description and it's a mistake.

Whos going to get the galaxy nexus if it comes to AT&T. That lte might make a big difference between getting the att version and the international version.

But The One X doesn't have as much support as the Galaxy nexus does right now. That phone is still relatively new.

One X will never have the support like our Gnex because Gnex is a developer's phone and a damn good one at that

I have the international version on AT&T and it is amazing. I would prefer an unlocked, unbranded Nexus on AT&T over at LTE one any day.

Amen to that! I had a AT&T Galaxy Note the boat ware was horrible. Half the crap nobody would ever touch, I dont get it lol. Plus the AT&T branding in silver yuck!
Even though my area only has 4G and not LTE. I think HSPA plus is fine, LTE is overrated IMO.
I have a upgrade due in May, I am thinking about getting a HTC One X to complement my galaxy Nexus. Never tried Sense but would love to give it a test run

Bingo. Unlocked is worth it.

International version's on AT&T rock.

Seeing as how you can get a lightly used (or new) international GNEX for like $350 nowadays (off contract) it's hard to imagine why ANYONE would be waiting for an "official" AT&T version that's ****ted up with bloatware.

The OneX is just a generic non-Nexus Android phone, and it will suffer the same fate AS a generic non-Nexus Android phone.

i picture the GSM LTE version that will land on AT&T to be just like the VZW version.. sucky battery life and signal issues..
I would rather pick up a One X before picking up a LTE Galaxy Nexus on ATT if that was the choice..
The international version of the One X will have support because it is world wide, rather than tied down to one carrier or having to have a different roms etc. i dont see the lte version having it tho
But the Galaxy Nexus will always have 10x more support since its what Android stands for.. The One X is what HTC wants it to be and for others to work around that

Sorry AT&T users, but I'm sure as soon as you start your LTE Galaxy Nexus expect that throttle text! Its been 1 week on my LTE Nexus and I'm at 4gb!

I used 20-30GB on AT&T over and over and I never got a text. Oh yea
More on topic: I think they just need to get the 4th nexus on time. At this point I would buy a unlocked nexus over a "AT&T" nexus any day of the week.

I think what everyone is failing to realize that all GN variants are ether LTE or HSPA+ and not both. I think the ATT variant will be the first one which will do both just like all ATT LTE phones.
That might be worth getting because of that fact. Also, because its GSM it should get full support from Google unlike the cdma nexus phones.
I don't know about you but I might just wait to see what comes out.

The CDMA Nexus phones still have full support from Google in terms of updates and providing factory images. In the past week they've added factory images of 2.3.7 and 4.0.4 for the Nexus S 4G on Sprint, and once the VZW Gnex gets updated to 4.0.4, I guarantee those factory images will be available as well. In addition, Google has recently provided NS4G and VZW Gnex binaries for AOSP 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.
They only removed code support from AOSP because CDMA is a proprietary platform and the APK signatures for the CDMA functionality are ROM specific. So basically it was impossible to compile a pure AOSP build for a CDMA device that would have a working radio. This was a known problem even before they removed official code support. Those APK signatures have to be recreated with every ROM and the APKs themselves can't be open sourced. This really only affects you if you're trying to create a non-rooted OEM firmware. It's really a non-issue for those of us on XDA in the end.
Now to get back on topic, I agree with you that the AT&T GN would be awesome purely since it'd be a GSM/LTE variant. I'll be interested to see speed tests and how it compares to VZW LTE. I'll also be interested to see if it retains HSPA+ support in case you live in a non-LTE market. It'll also be interesting to see if it works with T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ or if they remove the T-Mobile bands from the radio entirely and make it a true "AT&T Nexus".

I've got the GSM Nexus on ATT and it works great, except when I manually upgraded to 4.0.4, which had terrible connection and battery issues. I reverted to 4.0.2 and it's working great again. Speed, performance are excellent, no urgency to get an LTE phone just yet, considering the options will have so much bloatware. I can fully recommend the phone, just be cautious about upgrading to 4.0.4 at this point, and be prepared to go back to 4.0.2 if needed. Good luck!

This is really sad. Possibly the main reason to get an international GN (and go prepaid).

GNEX HSPA vs I9250 any difference??

So i purchased the GNEX I9250 (international version) im just wondering whats the difference in hardware from the US HSPA version

I believe they are identical.

They're both HSPA. That means the network they run on.

The international one is hspa+ too.
They are the exact same phone, they are both the I9250.
The only different ones are the Verizon and sprint ones. (Cdma/lte)

Don't worry it'll work fine. I was using mine on T-Mobile while I was in America for the last month and had no problems. While I had T-Mobile signal anyway but that's another story and not a problem with my phone more of a problem with American carriers.

I also have small question. I just got my Galaxy Nexus direct from google. When loking at the ROM threads and whatnot, should i be using the GSM roms? Are they for the international version only, or are they safe to use on my straight google nexus.
Just didn't know if their was anything different about this than the GSM one that has been around for a while.

The international one is GSM, yours is GSM, yours is international. Gravy!

[Q] GSM Versions

Hey all. I am looking to get myself this phone. From what i've read there are 2 gsm versions of this phone correct? And the penta-band version is the only one that will fully utilize t-mobiles network? I just want to be sure before i buy a phone that its the right one for t-mobile.

I bought the phone from the Play Store and I'm currently using a T Mobile SIM.
I don't recall having to choose between versions when I bought it from the Play Store website.

There is the LTE version and the gsm version. You want the gsm version.
The LTE version can only be bought through sprint or Verizon.

So only play store GSM Nexus are unlocked. Then i will have to start my search. Do the play store nexus have a different model number or a way to tell that they are unlocked?

Most gnex are actually unlock, save for some and the Japanese gnex.

OK then, that confuses things a bit. So pretty much i just have o ask if its unlocked and hope they're not lying to me....

There are five different versions, two of which are CDMA/LTE. The variant that you want is the i9250. Here in the U.S., it's doubtful you'll find either of the other two GSM models, as they are limited to Korea and Australia.

If you're in the US, you should just buy it from the Play Store. Good price, unlocked, full warranty.

I would, but then theres tax and shpping and warranty's dont really bother.

If i would purchase new it would cost me $386.55 USD compared to 300 used with goodies.

Well yeah if you're gonna go used to save money then that's fine. I was speaking that if you're going to buy it new, then go to the Play Store.

Hardware-wise there are only 3 different versions:
1) maguro, which is GSM pentaband HSPA
2) toro, which is CDMA/LTE for Verizon
3) toroplus, which is CDMA/LTE for Sprint
While there are a few (5 I think) different model numbers for the GSM version, hardware-wise they are identical.
Most GSM devices are sold unlocked. That said, there are instructions on XDA describing how to unlock, if you ended up buying a SIM-locked device.
