[Q] HELP! SMSC impossible to fix, can't use SMS! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've searched for hours now and tried everything i think. I can't send any message and this seems to be a SMSC issue. However when i go to the menu to change it (*#*#4636#*#*) first it's blank then after typing it and pressing update, it says update error. Refresh gives error also...
I tried different ways (encoding) to enter it. I tried to put the SIM in another phone (symbian) and the SMSC is well recorded in the SIM... I tried to put another SIM in the Xperia but the SMSC path is still blank and refresh still gives error... How can i fix it? Making me crazy...
Thanks.

GOsms with custom SMSC option's working. Still need to find out how to fix..!!

How helping... stunning

You give no information on what firmware you're on, what play version, what kernel or what rom. You give NO specifics what so ever, so how do you expect any help? Simple answer to try is flash whatever stock firmware you need for your phone with flashtool. If that doesn't work then it's your network and would have nothing to do with the phone's software.

[Q] Flashed CyanogenMod 7.1 and Cannot send SMS

Hello, I flashed CyanogenMod 7.0.3 last night and was able to send SMS when I first booted, but I could not after next boot.
I decided to just flash to CyanogenMod 7.1 and Cannot send SMS still, I have looked for the Message Centre number to ensure this is correct but I cannot find this on my phone?
Any help would be great

Try going to phone dialer and dialing *#*#4636#*#*
The phone will go into a back end utility menu. Select Phone Information option. Half way down is an empty area with SMSC next to it. Enter your message centre number and update. Might resolve your problem but can't guarantee anything

How do i find out my message centre number? Im near philadelphia and using sprint. googled it but cant find anything concrete.
@bobblin
take another phone from ur friend or any one else having same network as urs and collect the message centre number from that phone (not htc any other like se or nokia)and copy it to ur phone by dailing *#*#4636#*#* and goto phone information>SMSC.
What do you mean by (not HTC)
Also, how do you find the message center number on the friends phone? The same way you enter it on your own phone? *#*#yada yada?

I have flashed 7.2 RC. I have to retry sending sms 3-4 times and then the sms are sent. I tried changing the SMSC no but no use. Same prblm...pls help
If you have the problem on Android 4.2.
Enter *#*#4636#*#*
write the number in the mentioned field in "":
like "+00000000000"
This worked for me...
If you just type the number it will ignore your setting. ""-ing it solved that.

Texting won't work (GSM running stock 4.1.1)

After flashing JBSourcery my MMS isn't working anymore. I noticed I can recieve texts but none will go out. Phone works, internet works, everything else works except this and it's driving me crazy. I can still recieve some texts here and there but anytime I reply back I get the "Your message was not sent" error. I've gone as far as fastbooting back to complete stock 4.1.1 unrooted with a full wipe SD and everything and still have this problem. I've attached a logcat, I'd really appreciate any help I can get.
Come on, nothing?
Your SMSC is probably wrong.
Open the dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
Choose Phone Information
Scroll down to SMSC and enter 07913121139418f0
Press update

Tried and no luck. What about the other settings, should they be a particular way or does it matter? If it helps I'm using an AT&T SIM card and I heard they can go bad... but then again phone/internet/all other network services are working so idk what to do
when mms only isn't working more than likely it's you apn settings that are wrong ... try selecting a different one or editing them good luck
Fixed it with the SMSC method, had to remove the letter f in the codestring before updating. Thanks for the help everyone.

Emergency Calls Only...

Hi,
last night this problem just came out of nowhere. I was texting and calling fine like hour before I noticed it happen, but whenever I try to call it hangs up, and whenever I try to text it tells me to try again when service is available. On the lock screen it tells me "Emergency Calls Only", but sometimes it shows "Virgin" I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada, but still doesn't work. I've tried the following:
1. Pulling out battery and putting it back in.
2. Nandroid restore to when I first rooted it, and when it was working fine.
3. Take out SIM card, battery, and memory stick
4. Putting it into airplane mode and disabling airplane mode about 30 seconds later.
5. Unrooted to original Bell Stock Rom image from a thread and now have normal recovery
6.Data/factory reset
The only thing I do have a possible lead on is that yesterday I created a recovery tar file, from a recovery image I got from cwm website under AT&T, thought it was also for Bell (Model wise) as well, so don't know if that's the case, does that have to do with anything? I'm back to stock recovery and rom and from a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 and downloaded the Bell/Virgin image, and flashed with Odin, I am back to stock, but still did not fix issue. It says Virgin on the top sometimes, and sometimes back to "Emergency calls only" could the recovery flash have changed radio or something? I also did do a restore before I flashed the new recovery and when phone was being normal just before unrooting but that also didn't work. Now I am unrooted and not on custom recovery. But still no service. Most of the time the service is 1 bar, but even when it's on 5 for like 10 seconds, it still doesn't work. Is it me or my carrier? I also noticed that even when the signal shows full strength it tells me "Emergency Calls Only". Thanks for the help.
I'd call Virgin and ask if your service was interrupted for any reason.
Yeah I'm going to do that, but I just looked at the IMEI number on the back of the phone, and looked at it in settings, but it did not match the number it had at the back. It just says 0 in the phone settings. Does that have anything to do with it? I wanna know if this is has anything to do with that first before calling.
EDIT: Okay so I did some research and yes that is apparently the problem, so I rerooted to custom recovery, and followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997 my IMEI is back, and matches, and it says "Virgin" now at the top of my lockscreen, but still, I can't send messages or call. Did the deleting of IMEI also delete something else I should restore? Or is it something on their side? I am connected to Virgin Mobile, but the connection is extremely weak, and does not complete any calls or texts. There's also "IMEI SV" under settings and it says "01" is that an issue?
EDIT 2: Nevermind I just had to follow post 3 after fixing IMEI in that thread I linked and it worked! In case you researched and got here. Follow thread I linked up.

I'd like to resurrect this thread for a moment. Papaniz's problem is exactly like mine, same carrier & country.. but the link is dead.. any idea what the process was or where another link might be? Thanks Guys

The thread was remove to avoid illegal problem. You'll most likely have to look somewhere else to recover your IMEI if flashing stock firmware doesn't fix it.

[Q] (Ace II x) Issues with cellular networks and connecting to them

So stupid me was fooling around in the *#197328604# menu and I accidentally screwed up my IMEI number (whoops my bad. not going in there again). After watching a YouTube video (Found via Googling), I managed to restore it (It now once again matches the IMEI on the bottom of the phone's box). However, I still have no cell service.
1. When I have the phone on the lock screen, it says "Emergency Calls Only". From time to time it may also say "Invalid SIM" or something along those lines.
2. When I look for mobile services (Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks), it pops up an error, "Insert SIM card to access network services", even though the SIM card is inserted.
3. Sending a text message fails. It just says it will wait with it until a network is available.
4. Placing phone calls fail. "Not registered on network"
5. The phone can read the SIM though. Going to the Contacts, and going to Import/Export has the SIM card options, and nothing goes wrong when selecting them.
Where can I go from here? I've cleared the Dalvik Cache to no avail as well. It almost works, so I think it's software related, or perhaps my SIM is malfunctioning, but I want to exhaust every possibility before going back and saying "my phone is acting wonky".
Have you tried a factory reset? If that fails, you might need to reflash the ROM.

Yeah. Resetting it failed. I can't get past the setup. After skipping WiFi setup, I just get a black screen and nothing shows. I may have to do a stock reflash. If that too fails, I may see if I can bring it in.
Edit: Stock reflash failed to fix it as well. Gonna bring it back and get it replaced.
Edit 2: Got a replacement SIM, didn't fix the problem. Seems it's hardware based (or software). Is it possible to remove all traces of a root before sending it in to make it appear unmodified?

It's not *#197328604#, it should be *#197328640#
been there lol

I've recovered from doing the exact same thing. It will take a lot of trial and error. What network are you on?

*#9090# choice not saving? i9195 LTE from EE UK.

Ok there's a short version to this and a long version, I'll start with the short version....
After a lot of tail chasing I've almost got the phone 100% back to how it should be, it seems that the only thing left to sort out is for me to be allowed to use USB instead of UART to reset my IMEI (got wiped out, "unknown"). Is there any reason why it wouldn't stick or a way to resolve it? The phone states "USB_Diag selected", "Change Complete", etc.... but when I click back it's still on UART. I've tried rebooting direct from that screen, coming out and rebooting, using the home button, etc, etc, etc. For whatever reason it just wont stick?
Long version......
I wanted to unlock the phone so that I could try out a payg sim that I was having issues with (only phone with a micro-slot). At first I tried to unlock it which didn't work, it suggested installing a prior baseband version of modem to get it to work so I tried that and it came up baseband unknown, imei unknown, etc, etc, etc. Fun fun fun. A bit of panic set in and I started installing anything I could find, I soon found myself with a "image resolution" boot error, which I believe was down to me trying to downgrade to 4.2.2 when 4.4 had already been installed. I eventually got myself back on an even keel but I'm still left with the IMEI unknown error. I'm trying to set it to the default using Samsung Tool Pro (24.3) but I keep getting an Access Violation (004074E0). I've disabled UAC just in case it wasn't fully running in administrators rights (which I had set it to do) and I've tried everything else I can think of. The one thing through browsing around that I can't get set properly is the 9090 menu to have USB instead of UART.
Info:
Model - GT-I9195
Version - 4.4.2
Baseband - I9195XXUCNJ5
IMEI - Unknown
Oh, one other thing that I recall. When selecting "Reset MSL" in the Samsung tools it said it completed successfully but my phone didn't reboot? I wasn't sure if that had anything to do with it. Secure boot status shows "Samsung"?
I have managed to force the IMEI using xposed but I would prefer not to go down that route if possible.
Thanks for any help
