I’m having trouble rooting the HTC Wildfire S it is a marvelc cdma phone from Metro PCS (USA service). I first used a method from YouTube, the video is called called HTC Wildfire S - Unlocking Boot loader and I did this like the 2nd day I had my Wildfire S and the first time I had an HTC so I had no idea about HTC DEV at the time, but anyway I did this method and I followed all the steps until the end when the program tells you to press any button to reboot, what I did was unplugged the phone, but I noticed I was not rooted, so I went to the boot loader and noticed it says *** LOCKED (OOW) *** at the top and it also says S-OFF ,so I tried almost all the root methods, and tried to use HTC DEV, and HTC DEV just tells me that it’s the wrong RUU program so I don’t know guys please help me. All I want to do is temp root, to remove bloatware, please help me. Thanks!

You don't need an ruu anymore. Just go through the unlocking process. Or go here for a noob friendly version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432199 and remember to thank theq86 for the nice tutorial.

You dont need s-off.
Do you have htc sync? Because you need the drivers.
Did you turn on usb debugging? Turn it on in settings>applications>development>usb debugging (make sure its ticked)

exactly same thing happened to me... i was wondering about an 30 mins what could went wrong... and then i realized that i didn't finished the bootloader unlock process completely... just flashed unlockable hboot... make sure you finished the process... (if i remember it finishes with pushing unlock key sent by e-mail via fastboot)
EDIT: you don't need to revert anything if this is your case... you just need to continue the process where you skipped it...

yes i have latest htc sync and my drivers are installed
and usb debugging on i dont why im cant root it
any ideas ?
another question when i connect it to supertool v3 through usb
do i have to choose a mode like htc synce ?
or put it on charge mode or disk drive ?
Did you install SuperUser app by chainsdd from Google Play store? That could be why your phone doesn't know it's rooted.
With the latest HTC rom, I also couldn't get it rooted.
Super user was installed fine but would not give permission to any root apps.
I think HTC has patched all current exploits.
Then what's the point of releasing an unlocked bootloader?

You can still flash custom Roms fine.
Maybe I'm wrong, but with the latest ota update I couldn't get it rooted.
and when you started supertool did you prepared for root prior to rooting?
I just got my WFS yesterday and I'm also having the same issue. I read a lot threads, I probably made the mistake of installing the OTA update. I've tried htc supertools v3 and superoneclick 2.3.3-- next I am going to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21201909&postcount=82
I just want to freeze/remove the bloatware and possibly overclock the cpu
I have metropcs
2.3.4
image version 2.00.1550.07
*** UNLOCKED ***
marvelc evt1 ship s-off rl
hboot-1.10.0000
I just used 2fasts s-off tutorial. my phone is now s-off but the one click root didn't work. I again tried using htcsupertools and superoneclick with no luck

Hi
I have read all your post and replies. This is not any other post, m posting this after going for hours through your forum.
I have tried the new HTC Any root method, doesnt work. I rooted htc incredible s it rooted it, but with wildfire s it give error of out of memory. i made a space of 93mb in system memory, but still didnt work.
I have tried to update bootloader from HTC dev site, but my software version is 2.26.401.3, and no ROMs are yet available for this.
I have specifically searched wildfire s forum and have tried all the rooting methods but failed.
I have also tried the specific blog for htc wild fire s method but failed.
Kindly advise one method for which i can root htc wildfire s with above specifications.
Or can it be rooted at all?
I shall be very thankful.

Hi Ali well I rooted my wfs yesterday. Here's what I did.
1. Get ur bootloader unlocked from htcdev (just register and start following the steps, *Skip the RUU step*)
2. Restart ur wfs in hboot (by pressing power button and volume down)
3. Select fastboot and enter the cmd instructions.
4. Copy and paste the string and send it to htcdev for ur unlock key.
5. Follow the remaining steps to unlock the bootloader.
6. If. Your device is S-Off then go ahead with the root if it's S-ON then use the universal exploit and make sure that u have the original SD card inserted when using the universal exploit.
Hope this helps

Don't uninstall the above:
1 - it didnt work for me (Wildfire S, euro version)
2 - it installs a lot of junk software (toolbars, IM icon packs etc) that took me half an hour to uninstall.
pg76img not updating
While hboot processing PG76IMG parsing and getting an error message "main version old" what should I do now,I tried checking software updates but it said no updates available for ur phone, pls help me out of this
