New to Samsung(coming from HTC EVO3D). I was trying to install an update(from the wrong forum i9100 FACEPALM). Anyway, now I have an error message that says to use Kies recovery mode. I can't seem to connect to Kies. Someone please give me some tips. Not rooted and was not looking to root. Just want to do some sort of factory reset to get my device back to normal. Any ideas on what or how I should proceed? TIA
Since you flashed the international version your USB is disabled and if I remember correctly can only be fixed by JTAG. If you have a MicroSD card you can still flash by Mobile ODIN - but be careful doing any wipes from an ICS kernel, including any from the stock recovery. Hope that helps.
Figured it now!! flashed a gingerbread stock rom and now I'm all good!
how did you do it? i am having the same problem
You able to get into download mode? If so just download a stock GB rom and flash in Odin.

can you give a little more insight on that? i'm trying to get into download mode, but i'm stuck at a screen that says, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
(kies won't recognize the phone)
before i was at this screen, i was trying to use odin one-click install to get ICS onto an at&t galaxys2 i727.
any help on how i can get back into download mode, or somewhere else where i can do something, would be a big help.

I actually just encountered this, and I found this way out, I flashed the AGAT recovery with the odin executable.

After all the problems i had with my Wifi using ics (arco) i decided to downgrade to stock rom but with the new baseband hoping to solve the prblm. I downgraded according to "the-e"'s guide using ODIN but, i didnt flash stock recovery because i thought i would still have CWM recovery.
Now that i want to root, the "Box" comes up when i reboot but it just restarts and doesnt enter recovery mode~ i have no recovery. I tried using ODIN again, but it cant find my phone, it says "please connect phones". Even kies says my phone is incompatible!!?
What do i do?

When using odin you have to put your phone into download mode and then plug it into the pc while opening odin. Do you did that?

I cant enter download mode?! The page comes where i have to press the volume up button but that doesnt bring any reaction. neither does volume down (which is supposed to restart the phone).
download mode is volume down+home dude
maybe reflashing from odin could work?
If not mistaken, we will lost CWM and it may go back to stock recovery if we flash a stock ROM, by the way did you manage to enter into stock recovery?
If yea just download the Zip-file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317394 to get root

Not sure but try not to reset to factory but search for a odin flashable recovery (in development section is one) go to downloadmode and flash recovery through odin. Hope it helps.

I just closed and restated Odin and rebooted phone and it went straight to download mode, i guess i got lucky. Try to install the USB drivers again. That also helped recognize the phone. I tried installing Kies but no luck until I the USB drives by themselves

Yes that did the trick, I didn't try that because I thought the restore to factory
Tar image would automatically do it. When I thought about it I tried flashing the recovery image alone through Odin and it did it. All good now. Thanks

Lol there both equally good for me, the reason why I was switching was because for some reason I cannot successfully flash the Real Dark Slim Gapps, every time I would flash it TWRP would restart and it started after updating to 2.4.4.0. That's the reason why I wanted to switch recovery. I even tried reformatting my internalSD card and even downloading the files again and no luck. I even tried it in older rooms that I would normally use the Skin Gapps on.

I followed instructions on how to root my S3 and realized when it's too late that it was a ****ty guide. The program crashed half way through so now my phone is stuck saying:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again"
Kies was already downloaded for the Root. I start Kies, try and get it working but Kies can't even see my phone. I don't know what to do :/
PS: Other programs do see my phone which makes it even weirder that Kies does not.
Phone type: SPH-L710
Jelly Bean
4.1.2
It WAS in Debug mode when I started the root using Odin 307
You have to be in download mode not debug mode for Odin
I don't remember the button combo for it add I've been using quick boot to go to it
It's turn off then hold
Vol dwn + home + power (thanks toolegit)
Try Odin after you are able to get into download mode.
It'll specifically say download mode I think

Which rooting instructions did you use? MIght want to Odin back to stock and reroot. I used QBKing77s instructions, and it went very easy. Link is at the top of the GD forum.

My moment did that to me when I didn't have a ROM on it, it kept booting into recovery. Since you're going to download mode, I'm guessing you don't have a recovery either.
If you can't get your 'puter to recognize it, can you try another 'puter? Also, did you confirm you have the latest drivers? Uninstall if necessary and redownload and reinstall them, and try Odin again. As I recall, Odin is rather picky about the drivers being correct. And of course by that I mean the OS.

Here is QBKing77's instructions on how to root your phone. Follow this video exactly. Kies is not required. Here is the ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery. This one or TWRP will work. I personally prefer TWRP, YMMV. You should be using Odin to install the .tar or .md5 file.
Follow QBKing77's video, it's really all you need. He should also have links to the files, but I think these links have the files needed. Not direct links to files, but links to threads with files.
Good luck!

Hello.
I have Galaxy S3 model t-999(T-Mobile) and after installing ROM(CM 10.1 4.2.2) and G-apps I got the problem with "Setup Wizard has stopped".
apparently the version of th G-apps was for 4.2.1 but beacuse my PC doesn't recognize my Galaxy S3 I could not switch the G-apps to the G-apps with the right version( I have tried a lot of times to fix it with some methods but still doesn't work ).
After that, I somehow got into recovery mode, wiped factory data, partition cache and dalvik cache.
That also didn't work, and the problem with "Setup Wizard" continued..
I was desperate and probably formatted all the system data and a few more things there(Man, i am stupid..).
So now, recovery mode won't work, the device won't be activated at all and the PC as I said before, won't recognize it.
I am pretty sure that after i deleted everything(probably) there is no solution.
So if there is a any chance to fix it(even if the chances of success are slim) I will be glad to hear it .
Thank you very much.

Well, theres two ways this can work for you. You need Odin and a copy of the stock firmware. Instead of going directly into recovery you need to get to download mode. Vol-down and home key along with power button. Once booted, press the vol-up key to get to download mode. This should work regardless if you have a custom cwm or twrp recovery or not. Once you get that far, you need to download the Sammy usb drivers for your computer to recognize the phone. Open Odin and flash the stock recovery, make sure you have the f.reset and reboot checked, flash the stock recovery through pda in Odin. Wait about 8 mins, and let it do its thing, the reroot after your recovery is redone, flash your Rom you want, wipe data, dalvick, cache. Flash your gapps (correct version) then reboot= win.

Just to mention it, if you are referring to the setup wizard that appears when you first boot a new Rom.. All that basically does is setup your Google account. Other then that it's Pretty much useless. Once it force closes, just go into settings and mmanually add it. Unless I'm missing something.

If you can see the Cyanogen Android then your phone is NOT bricked, you just need to get it into download mode.
Remove the battery for a few seconds and replace it, then press the HOME+VOLUME DOWN+POWER BUTTONS all
at the same time for a few seconds and your phone should go into the download mode screen.
In download mode you can Odin flash either the stock T999 Samsung Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware (rom).
OR you can Odin flash the stock-rooted T999 Samsung Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware (rom).

Uninstall kies and/or sammys usb drivers. Download the latest version of tge drivrrs only (check my sig).
Reboot the phone and computer and try again.
Also, try every usb port on your PC. Youd be surprised how often only one of tge ports works for this.

I've been trying to fix the wifi issues after installing WanamLite v4.2.
I've tried flashing with Odin the MJ5 bootloader (supplied from Wanam) with no success. Also, I've tried flashing the wifi fix supplied from Dr.Ketan, again with no success. In one of those attempts flashing failed, as indicated by Odin. Now all I get is this warning: "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
Can't do anything else, no recovery and no download mode. Help?! :/

If you can access download mode Then you can stop panicking.
It maybe that you need to flash a stock rom. First though I would make sure that all the usb drivers on you pc are correct. Personally I used odin 3.04 when I flashed Dr ketan wifi patch but i believe 3.09 is whats mostly used.

First you could go to Phil recovery (Link in my sig) and download the appropriate file to flash via odin whilst your in download mode. After there you should be able to flash a rom through recovery as normal but as I say I'd be uninstalling the usb drivers and refreshing them

I've always used odin with absolute fear lol as you say - only when there's no other option ie rooting etc. But I didn't see any other option now I want 4.3. I used odin 3.04. I made sure the usb driver had installed correctly and i used the wifi patch by Dr ketan on the pda tab and it all worked out fine
Great that all is fine in the end. Please mark your post as [SOLVED]. Will help others.

I've just flashed PhilZ Touch recovery as per instructions and then it rebooted normally into Wanamlite. Thanks again Tony!
Now onto the wifi issues. Is wifi supposed to be completely disabled...as it is now, I can see networks but I can't connect.
Should I just flash again Dr.Ketan's wifi patch?
Also, I get this message from the notification panel.
"SE for android has been disabled. Restart your device to restore your security settings." Ideas?

You should try to flash the Hurricane ROM, it's running on the newest 4.3 JB, the MK4 build. Wi-Fi works perfectly, no need to patch anything.
Finally...after flashing the MJ9 modem and then the MJ5 bootloader with no success, the remedy was to just reinstall the rom. Wifi is now fixed!
Thanks for the support guys.
EDIT: double post

I've been trying to fix the wifi issues after installing WanamLite v4.2.
I've tried flashing with Odin the MJ5 bootloader (supplied from Wanam) with no success. Also, I've tried flashing the wifi fix supplied from Dr.Ketan, again with no success. In one of those attempts flashing failed, as indicated by Odin. Now all I get is this warning: "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
Can't do anything else, no recovery and no download mode. Help?! :/
EDIT: Actually, I can get into download mode after all...
