[Q] How long does it take to fully charge your Kindle Fire? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, got my Kindle Fire yesterday and installed gede ICS Rom. The first time i plugged the tablet into the power socket it had about 30% (this was about midnight), i let it charge until 11am and it was at 88%. Does it take this long to charge the Kindle Fire??
I live in Germany and i use the original power plug with a EU Adapter. I have a Galaxy Nexus One from USA, and i used the same adapter and never had a problem with it.

To quote the gedeROM OP...
Bugs
Most 3.0 kernel bugs. Refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1591850
As seen in the thread referenced above...
KNOWN BUGS:
1. Charger driver has issues. It's still original source (for the most part from Amazon and it's so customized that it's nearly broken. This includes janky AC charging, reporting charging events to the OS, etc. Needs a complete re-write in my opinion.

The stock ROM charges much faster -- it's a bug with gederom or kernel.
If I were to reboot into TWRP and leave it on the charger, would it charge? Quickly?

Thanks for the responses. I feel stupid for not reading this on GedeRom's Page.
I will try this the next few days and report back. Seems to be a general problem.

For your information,
I'm using CM7 now, and it takes me 2 hours and a half to finish the charging. I think it's ok

How to charge dead kindle?

Rooted Kindle Fire on CM10
My kindle's dead and I can't seem to charge it up. When i plug in my charger it boots up to the boot animation then just dies and starts all over.
I can't find my stock kindle charger, so what are my options?

I can't turn it off, the kindle is already off because it is dead. When i plug the charger in, it automatically turns on and it dies during the bootanimation and repeats..
The kindle shuts down before he will have time to power it down and let it charge. I just spent the last 48 hours battling this same thing.
Your options from what I can see:
1. Buy another stock Kindle charger.
2. Find another 5v charger you have laying around with at least 1.8A. If it's a micro-usb, just use that to try to charge the kindle. If you have a 5v charger with at least 1.8A that isn't for a micro-USB device:
3. Get your non-micro USB charger and a spare micro usb cable. Cut off the end of the charger (Right before the part where it connects to the device), open the cable's casing, and look for black and red wires. Strip these. Now, cut the end off of your USB cable that connects to the computer. Open the casing, look for black and red. Strip. Now, connect red from the charger to the red of the USB cable. Likewise with the black. Intertwine the fibers; make sure it's secure. Cover the newly joined part of the cable (wheree the wires are exposed) with electrical tape to keep the red and black from touching. Try to charge the kindle now. Leave it plugged in for hours; it may take this long for it to work.
If you can't charge the kindle as described above, I have one more method, but it's risky and it will definitely void your warranty if you haven't already done so (unlikely). I had to resort to this method tonight, having no idea of whether or not it would work. But thankfully, it worked and my Kindle is now finally charging. This is a last resort, however.

Do you know if this makes the Kindle Fire absolutely impervious to the low battery booting issue? Does FFF 1.4 fix it completely?
If I were to completely drain my battery as much as I could, would it still boot after I plugged a charger in?

last time I tested it my battery was at 1% I didnt get the please wait battery to low warning but I believe it did what it was intended to do previous tests proved that its completely effective on my daughter kindle a few month before just plugged it in and finally it booted by itself took about 15 mins for it to gain enough to boot, but it could take several hours on usb charge if its totally drained to the bone. Nothing is impervious

I had enough energy to keep TWRP running so I just flashed the new bootloader. It says it's currently charging. Pretty awesome!!

if you have fff 1.4a simply power it off and plug it to your computer to charge leave it alone for say a few hours then try again
Your kf may be turning on but can't start the system. You should holding the power button in 20s. The kf will be turned off. You just pluggin your charger to charge its.
You can unbrick your kf by many way. Search in this forum to find a right way for your case.
send from my kindle fire using cm7
Will this method work on the kfhd too?

Kindle Fire Will Not Boot

About two or three months ago, I installed Hashcode's 7-13 version of Jellybean. I was having a great time with it, but after about 2 weeks of using it, it stopped charging. Ever since I have had bootloop issues, then I tried downgrading to ICS (GEDERom), and still had the same problems. And now finally, the Kindle has slowed to a halt. It stopped booting even when charging through a wall charger and a USB plugged in to my computer. I attempt to hold the power button, but no light comes on. Should I buy a new battery, or is there a software solution for this? And if there is not, would Amazon repair it if I sent it in? Thanks for replying.
EDIT:
Got it to boot in to FFF while plugged in to wall charger, but only lasted for a few seconds... Now in a smaller bootloop than ever before... UGH

What version of FFF is that? If that is any version of than 1.4a by Hashcode you should update; 1.4a has updated battery management for that exact issue.
Assuming that is an older version of FFF it's time to get your hands on a factory cable; boot from the factory cable into fastboot mode and update FFF, than plug into the wall charger. It still won't boot but if it's software it should charge at this point.
Edit: I'm going to report this thread to the Mods to try to have it moved to Q&A instead of general; hopefully you will get more assistance there.

Did u try chargin it overnight.. even i also had same problem and those guys promised to replace it..
There was a post on the same by on the of guys here.. suggest u try reading them (i guess u would have but nevertheless..)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623244
I then charged it overnight and saw that there was some amount of charge to help me recover it and then it was fine
Please try and let me know if that helped

Kindle Fire won't charge, but percentage stays the same.

The other day I noticed when I plugged my kindle fire in over night, it didn't charge. The charging indicator light is on and it doesn't lose any battery, it just doesn't charge. Am I just going to have to contact amazon customer support. I'm running TWA 4.2.1 1/17 ROM.
have you tried to restart it?
sometimes - but very rare - mine does what you describe too.
reboot always helps
After its been plugged in all night how long did it last before it died? I used to have mine act kinda similar till I upgraded the boot loader. It would just sit at zero percent and sometimes after use it would correct itself. Works great now.
If your on an older boot loader I would suggest you upgrade. If not then I don't know...

Unplug, replug, reboot go to settings about tablet/status unplug, replug wait in between till it says charging(AC).
just now seen these replies, I already flashed back to stock in order to send it back to amazon. problem still perrsists there, oddly enough they are upgrading me to the second gen kindle for free.
I myself would consider that a downgrade the second gen devices are a pain in the rear and development is snail pace due to the locked bootloader. Don't expect to have the same options as you did with your first gen device.
yeah you're right, hopefully there will be more work done on the cm 10 roms, hash's and powerpoint both look good for it being early on with locked bootloaders

[Q] Battery taking far too long to charge on KF 1st gen.

I am running [ROM-AOSP] Stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2_r1 for the Kindle Fire [02-12 4.2.2_r1] on my 1st generation KF for quite a while now. However, lately the KF takes a very long time to charge (8 hours or more yesterday), and even appears to hang while charging. I have made no changes or uploaded anything that can explain this. (The battery saver App Easy Battery Saver is installed, and has been all the time.)
Can anybody advise on problem/solution?
Change your charging device. If that does not resolve it, then you will have to open the kindle and either replace the battery or check for bad solders/loose wires.
Like bad charging port, but could be bad charger, or bad battery.

okay, thanks for both answers.
I have ordered a new charger, so when it comes I can try that to see if that solves the problem.
What I have noticed today, is that the main orange Kindle Fire "On" light goes out briefly now and again while charging. I don't know if this is normal or not (or if it gives any clue to what might be wrong)? The Kindle is charging now and has been for several hours, but is only at 23% after all these hours. I don't know if I should leave it (and it will stay plugged in all night) or unplug it.
NOT Charger - how to tell if it is the USB Port or Battery?
I should have thought of this before I ordered a new charger (which hasn't come yet). I plugged the KF into computer (usb) and after a while it stopped charging!!!!
So it can't be a problem with the charger!
QUESTION: So how do I tell if it is the charging port or the battery???? (unless a wire is clearly loose then it is not a problem to know)
I did have the feeling that the battery is running down faster than usual (but not sure) and "maybe" even leaking away slightly (less sure of this though)

I know with mine, sometime it doesn't charge, so I disconnect charger from kindle,
I reconnect I press it in with some pressure, and then pull out but not enough that it really moves, and it starts charging again.
I only have a problem once every 15 -20 times or less.
also could try a little pressure from one direction on the cable,
don't want to keep moving it, it can take a few secs to start charging again
don't want too much pressure or you will make it worse.

Okay many thanks for the reply sd_shadow - I'll have to wait with that
I took the back off (first time I've done that) and wanted to see if anything was clearly loose - but I found I don't have a screwdriver that small to remove the board - so will have to buy a screwdriver tomorrow (frustrating) - and don't want to put it back together until I have checked for possible loose things.
However, I don't think that todays stopping charging while on USB/computer is perhaps that important (but I am a novice so??). The other day I did try removing charger cable and replugging, when it did not seem to be charging, and afterwards I saw it was charging, but still going really slow.
As I also noted in my ealier Post I saw that the Kindle On light went out briefly and came back on while charging now and again (on USB/computer today went out and stayed out) - I don't know if this is a usual happening while charging - or if this is some indictaion to a certain direction (loose something or battery)?
Would be great if someone knew this!?!
I don't have enough expereince to know this!
I am a bit surprised that this problem has suddenly popped up - I take very good care of my KF - and it is always protected in a cover, and I am very careful when charging it - don't move it about/Charge it fully/etc. I mostly only use it to read ebooks the last months and switch it on maybe 1 or 2 times a day, and not for that long
I can't help wondering if it could be the Stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2_r1 causing this problem??
problem solved!!!
Sorry for the late reply to this – holidays!
I solved this problem with the help of this person at:
http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle/ref=cm_cd_pg_pg1?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdPage=1&cdThread=Tx3BVTWI4W8QESI
I recommend that if anyone has a similar problem then they read this before taking other action.
I bought a new charger which I did not need!
The battery charging memory was out of sync. When you put the charger into KF it switches on, and my mistake was that I had been leaving it on. Additionally you need to do a regular charge – but read the above article, a bit long, but well worth reading if you have this problem (or even without)!
Thanks to all

Battery dead....won't recharge....won't power up

Hey guys,
I have an issue with the V500. I have since gifted the tablet to my wife and she let the battery run out. For the life of me, I cannot get the tablet to recharge or boot into recovery. The thing has been sitting on a charger for a day and half now. Is this a common occurence?
The tablet is rooted and TWRP recoveried.
It's running Slim ROM.
I have tried everything, is there something I am missing?
Thanks
I have had an issue like that with another device and I had to plug it into a computer instead of a normal charger. I theorized at the time that the slower charging from the computer was what allowed the battery to recover. I have no idea if this will help but it did manage to bring my kindle fire back from the battery dead.

Overnight, that was after spending the previous day on a normal charger which did nothing just like you described happened with your G Pad.
Are you using the cable and charger that came with the G Pad? Try a different cable and charger.
