hi there..recently i was trying to custom MTD partition HTC Wildfire(ICS) by referring to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233340 ..
unfortunately i keep on failing..the problem comes after i do nandroid restore n flash bravo-boot-v1.5.3-CustomMTD.zip..it stucks on cm9 startup.
htc Wildfire
S-oFF
CM9
Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
SD 8GB
can anyone help me out here..
sorry 4 my bad english..
What settings are you using???
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA
what do you mean by setting
sorry saadislam im abit noob
which and what setting do you mean?
i follow all the step exactly from that thread
in the mtdpartmap.txt file if the setting in there is smaller than the actual system size then obviously it won't work as the system will be too big for the partition.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
exactly what scratch said.. I think cm9 needs 190mb for system partition but I am not sure.. try 200mb to be on the safe side..
Your mtdpartmap.txt should be like this : "mtd 200 10"
No spaces or extra line.
Mtdpartmap
i had (220 40) when i try MTD partition.. but it still stucks at cm9 startup
try these files..
1. flash recovery.zip
2. format system, cache and data.
3. go to advanced and reboot recovery.
4. flash cm9 zip.
5. flash gapps.
6. flash boot.zip and reboot.
7 wait for atleast 10-15 mins..
MTD
thanks alt saadislam..i try it and let u know ASAP
Ty very much saadislam..i had successfully custom MTD partition..
Glad I could help

desire rooted with s-off,I have changed the rom on my desire several times I am now on Cynogen 7, can any one help, I have approx 9g of my sd free but am continually getting can't upload system full. If I wipe my system data and cache, will I still be able to install rom from my sd card. Or is there a better way to do it?
What HBOOT are you on? If you /system partition is full then use a hboot with a larger /system partition.
Cheers forthe reply. My hboot is 256 how can I enlarge it.
By going S-OFF and flashing a hboot which gives you more space on /data.

first of all - what exactly are you trying to do??
when do you get this error??
and - when you switch roms you should do complete wipe - system, data, cache, ext - i guess you know that already
but 9gb sd space has nothing to do with system partition
and what rom are you trying to install?
i dont think most roms give problem with stock hboot
Flash a different HBoot mate , use cm7r2
Or you could just try Supernova and get 2 GB free

Maybe the OP wants to know how to set up a2sd?
1) Make an ext4 partition using gparted (and only gparted!)
2) Choose any of the a2sd scripts you like (use search to find them) and set them up according to the instructions in the corresponding thread
3) Enjoy plenty of space.
Hello, I would like to know if it's safe to upgrade via cwm from the Particle Rom to CyanogenMod 7.2-GIO-KANG.
My Model is GT-S5660
Android Version 2.3.5
BaseBand is S5660XXKQ5
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf
Compilation NÂș GINGERBREAD.XXKS2.
I would also like to know what's the best app to backup all my apps+data.
Thanks in advance,
sure you can.
the particle problably is ext, so extformatterzip isnt needed...
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk
best app is titanium backup
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk
I've gone from mod to mod my self. And if I remember correctly it was particle to 7.2. Just make sure you do the ext4 formatter before you apply the 7.2 zip.
As for backing up, a copy of titanium backup does a good job.
tooviral
edit.....5 min wait lol
Thank you for your answers!
That ext4 format you talk about, is made in the computer right?
A primary fat32 partition and a secundary ext4?

no...
if you havent got an ext4 partition wich you made on pc, you dont need to do it now...
just backup via titanium backup
then backup using clockworkmod just to be sure..
then flash cm7
then flash gapps
reboot
if stuck at android download extformatter.zip from clockworkmod thread by phiex.
if stuck at boot , wich can take about 3 mins the first time, wipe data and cache
reboot
you should boot now, restore your titanium backup
done

You might want to check things like that before you give someone advice. Particle is a modified stock ROM so it's RFS.
1. sync all contacts & calendar with Google Account
2. if u use notes from stock u must sync them with PC
3. make zip backup from CWM recovery
4. make a full backup with titanium backup with options on (full cache and full data)
5. when u restore apps - dont forget about: dont restore APP + Data if data not need or if u can fast reconfigure ur app.
6. start flashing

hi partitioned my sd card so no probs there, ive been searching for that exactly i do with the partition now ive got it lol,
in titanium backup i can see theres stuff on the new partition but ive no clue whats on there, so whats it for & how do i put things on it & what things? but most of all why did i make it in the first place?? lol
you're supposed to research this stuff before you do it...
i also hope that you've used either gparted or 4ext recovery to parition (not minitool...)
basically the partition is generally for apps. it's better than normal android 'move to SD' because you can move all of the app, and can move widgets too. you can also move dalvik cache to sd as well depending on the script.
this all depends on what rom your are using and what built in script (if any) it uses to move bits around.
further reading here, i'd recommend reading through more of those guides just for more general learning...
titanium backup will show that the partition is filling up. better apps like 'diskusage' will show you how all your partitions are being used.
i did try to find out as much as i could & the reson i did it before knowing why is cos i want to know i can do it more than anything else all i knew was everyone else is doin it so i needed to know how lol
thanks for the link i'll enjoy reading it
i used rom manager to do it hope i used the right one cos everone else seemed to be useing it

Yh, dont use rom manager (cwm) to partition ur sdcard, it makes bad partitions. Like eddie says, use gparted or download http://4ext.net/ updater app then install 4ext recovery and use that to partition sdcard.
Dont forget backup first

installing 4ext recovery will remove clockworkmod
uninstall rom manager like you would any other app if you haven't already. you don't need it, and can cause real problems if you use it with this phone.
ok i'll do that when i workout how to do it then lol

Download the app on ur phone and install it, in ur app drawer press 4ext recovery updater and then flash recovery from the menu. I really dont know what else to tell u, u could flash it via fastboot commands (recovery.img) but i feel that would prob take us a week lol

yh nandroid backup and save on computer also anything else u want to save. then depending on what rom ur going to install, partition ur sdcard to what ever the rom requires. so once u know that, boot into recovery go to tools/partition sdcard/ remove all partitions and start from scratch.
then ul have to choose size, normally most requirements would be this setup
1024 (1gb)
skip
skip
then choose ext4 and ur done.
just dont go bigger than 1.5gb ext4 (1524)
check ron requirments first tho

Hey guys i need a new kernel i tryed to install a jb rom with dat2sd on it and now cwm recovery dont work an the rom says android phone force closed over n over again could somone suggest a good kernel for me to use please its my daughters phone that i got her for christmas please help me
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Most probably It's coz of your data2sd script. Most of the latest JB ROMs are using eoghan's kernel which is the only one out there I guess right now.. So check your script again and flash the ROM.
I don't know which thread is the better to ask.
I got a problem on my phone now.
My phone can't flash any rom after I flashed the "[KERNELS]Cyanogenmod 7/9/10 I AOKP I Paranoid Android 2.54 V2.1".
I tried to flash the other kernel and other rom but same. What's wrong with my phone.
I can just restore the nannda backup file but many application does not came back and have to reistall the application.
Please let me know How to fix it.
What's the error? This cant happen after just flashing the kernel? Are you stuck in boot loop or something else??

Depends on a Rom. Always full wipe before flash the Rom.
Stop the HTC logo or Rom logo and instlation aborted and HTC logo bootloop.
I could flash the Paranoid Android but no Google play store and gapps did not work.
I just restored before change the kernel. Very strang things happened to my phone.
I don't know what's the problem?

Just to double check that you're doing it right, I'd suggest you follow these steps. Let's take a ICS rom for example Paranoid one.
>Wipe data (twice)
>Format System
>Format boot.
>Wipe battery stats.
>Wipe davlik
>Install the ROM.
>You can flash a kernel if you want as well right now (Optional)
>Install the GAPPS. (Remember that ICS, GB and JB all have different GAPPS. ) Download one from http://goo.im/gapps
>Reboot.
>Complete the setup and all.
>Boot back to recovery.
>Install any data2sd script if you want I prefer int2ext4+ or you can always use link2sd.
> wipe sdext2
>reboot.
> Done.
