[Q] system full on rooted desire with 9g sd free. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

desire rooted with s-off,I have changed the rom on my desire several times I am now on Cynogen 7, can any one help, I have approx 9g of my sd free but am continually getting can't upload system full. If I wipe my system data and cache, will I still be able to install rom from my sd card. Or is there a better way to do it?

What HBOOT are you on? If you /system partition is full then use a hboot with a larger /system partition.

Cheers forthe reply. My hboot is 256 how can I enlarge it.

By going S-OFF and flashing a hboot which gives you more space on /data.

first of all - what exactly are you trying to do??
when do you get this error??
and - when you switch roms you should do complete wipe - system, data, cache, ext - i guess you know that already
but 9gb sd space has nothing to do with system partition
and what rom are you trying to install?
i dont think most roms give problem with stock hboot

Flash a different HBoot mate , use cm7r2

Or you could just try Supernova and get 2 GB free

Maybe the OP wants to know how to set up a2sd?
1) Make an ext4 partition using gparted (and only gparted!)
2) Choose any of the a2sd scripts you like (use search to find them) and set them up according to the instructions in the corresponding thread
3) Enjoy plenty of space.

Desire Internal memory.

Ok, wife has a rooted and s off desire. It had 41 mb free internal space. Installed Google+ and Adobe air. Moved air to SD and moved Google+ with titanium and link2sd. Checked internal memory down to 25 mb. So I uninstalled both the apps. I now get a reading of 32 mb not 41 mb as it was before. Why?

hi,
coz data used by those apps are still into dalvik cache.
use titanium back up to clean dalvik cache (menu/more)

It's dose, it says 2 app data not needed but to remove must donate. Is there any free apps that can do this safely?

you can wipe all dalvik via recovery is you have cwm.
Or just donate. The app is well worth it.
Yes indeed. This was my first boight into android market. Daily used.

If I wipe all dalvik will it harm my phone in anyway?
Also done some research and found an app called A2SDGUI. looks like it can move dalvik to SD, is this a good idea and will it work on gingerbread?

Hi.
It won t harm ur phone. If you do so advice to wipe cache. Be in mind while rebooting takes much time coz rebuilding dalvik-cache.
Dunno a2sdgui could be a good idea depends ur sdcard speed. If not class10 (mean write speed 10mb/s). Dalvik is often used by system so if bad sdcard performance can reduce you rom performance.

so sdcrad writing speed = 2Mb/s
a2sd (move app 2 sd card) yes is enough
move your dalvik to you sd card no it to low (don't advice to do so)
have just look app mention a2sdgui requiered Requirements:
- ROOT
- busybox
- A2SD Darktremor Scripts V2.7.5.2 and above.
dunno if you got a custom rom (which means you got aswell a custom kernel)
if yes, have a look to system/etc/init.d folder this where script like this a based.

I need some help with increasing my internal storage;
The problem is i am a newfag and kind of no interested in any super roms with awesome tweaks etc. I just want the same 2.3.3 android htc gave us in update with old sense etc but with like a 1gb of memory for apps so what i need to do?
I tried to find something and here is what i think i need to do:
1.Security off
2. Root --> here is a question. Does a root dissapears after i do a factor reset?
3. Now i need to install some kind of custom recovery - dont rly know how
4. Install some rom????
I was reading and trying to understand the difference beetwen the apps2sd data2sd, there were some disscussions that data2sd slows your phone etc. but then someone ofc spoke that's incorrect... There is a lot of contradictions in topics so it's hard for someone new to get to know the topic well.
So know in the end i will just write once again:
I want 2.3.3 htc android from update with everything the way it was but with bigger internal storage. Is that possible?
You could use a rooted stock rom that supports a2sd:

Ok guys
I did s-off,rooted and know here's the question
What's the difference beetween the partition ext 2,3 and 4? It's related with speed or stability? ^^Do I even have an option to choose which one will I use? I have class 2 card from samsung which came with desire
I also dont exacly know which option i need to choose in my 4.0.1.4 CWM at Partition SD Card. I want like 1gb for apps
Also special thanks to MatDrOiD for quick reply
Different formatting, speed, stability etc.
ClockWorkMod is poor regarding the partitions.
Id your need good recovery, get the RMD Recovery.
Usually roms let user decide what ext he needs, but fire some there are specifications to ext 4 or ext 3.
Read rom requirements.

[Q] ROM without A2SD+/A2SD

Hi Everyone, i've just root my desire and would like to flash a new ROM for fun.
Most of ROM i found are having A2SD/A2SD+/A2EXT and i know it means that it allow installing apps to SD-ext.
But actually i don't want to create ext on my sd card. in other word, i would like to install all the stuff on internal rom only(include other apps)
Can anyone help to find a suitable Sense3.0 ROM that have around 100MB free rom after flashing & without A2SD+/A2SD.
Thanks.
You have got everything wrong, you don't need an ext partition for apps2sd roms.
And to answer your other question, there is no sense 3 rom that doesn't need an ext partition, let alone one with free memory!

oh.....that means i have to create ext partition on my SD if i want a sense 3 rom.......
btw, can class 2/class 4 SD card used for ext partition?
4 is fine. 2 may struggle. Depends what's on ext. Apks are pretty much archives. Apps run from dalvik-cache so that should be fine

No. Just means I'm not familiar with these Roms so not sure what's on there usually system app and frameworks.

sorry that i have another question,
my desire doesn't have s-off, how can i choose a correct rom for it?
The most important of S-OFF is the changing Hboots. But you don't need another Hboot for any rom here. Or rather in general: You don't need S-OFF for any rom (as far as I know). So just choose the rom you want.

e.g. IncertCoin sense 2.1+3 --> CM7 HBoot / stock HBoot
Cool3D Sensation --> with different combination of partition

thanks

[Q] Need a stable ROM to replace stock for wife's wildfire S

Hi all,
Sorry - I know you get a lot of "which is best" but I've been going around in circles looking at all the different ROMS
My needs:
Wifeys's phone keeps running out of memory.... the old story
want to replace the std ROM with one excluding bloatware
want to use apps2SD to make best use of limited space
Need a Stable ROM not the latest and greatest, just a fast stable ROM (Android version doesn't matter - she'll be using it for photos, mail, txt and facebook)
Don't want to be updating it in future - just one stable ROM to put on and forget.
Please could you offer suggestions
Many thanks in advance

I am in the exact same situation but I do have the marvelc (MetroPCS). I have tried MESSYSENSE and insink71's ROM but don't know enough to disable the A2SD scripts on my own. I have the bootloader unlocked, but S-ON; installed clockworkmod recovery, and upgraded to hboot 1.10.
I have a 4GB sdcard which I want to partition in 3GB FAT32 and have 1GB internal memory.
My wife wants me to spend $100+ in one of the newer phones but for what she uses the phone for the Wildfire S with 1GB internal memory would really make her happy and save me some dough! So I guess a stock ROM with init.d and rooted should do the trick once I run CRONMod INT2EXT+
Help please!

Doing it now, it's stuck in the first HTC screen, the one that displays HTC in bright green, before it goes into the the softer green font and displays the carrier. That's where it takes a long time or on the one after?
518MB primary partition formatted in EXT3, about 3.2GB in FAT32, primary and first partition. Installed your ROM after full wipe, ran the script and formated sd-ext like it says. Boot loop, after the MetroPCS logo it reboots back into the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen. What the heck could be happening???? I'm S-ON but unlocked. Could that be it?
I can confirm it's the script because I flashed only your ROM and the phone booted OK. Will try running the script again after 1 boot to see if that works. The only thing left to try is that the OP of CRON's thread says that some phones have problems and to mount /system before flashing the scripts.
No luck, boot loop. One thing that I don't understand is why doesn't is why programs like Link2SD cannot see my sd-ext partition. Could that be it?

V. Little Storage Space

Hi, I have a problem where the phone only allows me to install about four 3-4mb apps before is says 'storage space is running low'. This has been the case for a long time over many roms.
Tried with and without an 1gb ext4 partition on a 16gb and 32gb memory card. Roms tried include most ICS, JB 4.1 and JB 4.2. Have also tried with a2sd and without. Result: no changes.
Am currently on Nikez's 4.2 roms.
I hope there is a solution...

My sd card is currently not partitioned, and i don't really want to re partition it. Is there any way to fix this without partitioning sd card. I have previously tried a similar file to the one you posted, and it allowed more apps to be installed but still not as many as was used to
Edit: Having seen your sig, i read the how to partition guide, and I used the 4ext recovery method. Is it possible to remove and then recreate a partition from that recovery?

MW9.5 is very stable. How did you partition your SD card? Suggest you to wipe everything, re-partition if needed and flash. Everything should be working just fine.
Alternatively, you can try other MW ROMs like the one based on CM or oxygen. They're working perfectly too.

You are probably low on space because you are still on stock hboot.
Nandroid backup and change hboot using fastbout commands, search for guides. There are custom hboots posted in that thread if your search. Or just use something like cm7r2 hboot.
512mb is also quite small, you can use at least 1gb.
Check everything is working by installing another app like diskusage to browse all your partitions.
