i got one of these for free and never really bothered using it much other then as a backup drive, using it on iOS was painful to say the least so i thought i would try it on the note via the goflex app in the play store.
it acts as a wireless media server that gives off its own wifi signal. the android app is just as bad as the iOS app and the firmware on the drive its self is really buggy. it works but it craps out more often than not.
there is a site out there where they have made a custom OS for it but they charge $35 for it. thats a bit excessive imo. when it does work its amazing, i have access wirelessly to my entire music library (240GB) as well as HD movies/tv shows that wouldnt all fit on the note even with a large SD card. the most amazing thing about it is using it in the car. my wife can stream full HD content to her device, my son can stream to his device (which keeps him happy on long journeys) and i can stream to mine all simultaneously without any lag, in effect adding 500GB to each devices storage capacity.

specs:
500GB
Take more than 300 HD movies on-the-go*
Stream media over Wi-Fi to 8 devices at the same time
Automatically sync media and documents from your PC or Mac computer
Easily access and stream your media using the free app or your device’s web browser
Up to 7 hours battery life
Use the internet while connected to the Goflex Satellite.
You could always connect to it directly through it using the Samba protocol. I have a seagate goflex home, and I totally agree that the android app is total garbage. I just use ES File explorer to connect to it through a samba protocol and you can put in credentials as well.

EDIT: found a tut. thanks for the heads up
by bypassing the software/firmware connection does it make it more reliable?
im reading that samba2 has a file limit of 2gb, that wouldnt work for me and samba3 can be installed but im not sure how to do that myself

Its a nice "extra" expensive toy!
I did see it in a electronic show in Sweden when it first came out, and did buy it directly.. 1700 SKR = 240 $
I Honestly have used it 3-4 times..
cant say its bad! But it depends on if you "really" do have a use for it...
and the battery is Loong way from 7 hours!

Anybody ever try this out? I had never heard of it till just now, watching Catfish on my PS3 and there was a little commercial thing for it. I just downloaded it and it's pretty neat. So far it's turned my EVO into a Blu-ray remote for my PS3, and it is surprisingly very responsive. I think it only works with certain Blu-ray discs but it's neat nonetheless. I'm gonna play with it some more but just thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Yeah man, agreed. This right here proves that it's entirely possibly. This one works over wifi but I'd imagine it's possible to create one that works over bluetooth and can control the actual PS3 directly instead of through the disc. I really wonder why Sony hasn't made an app for it themselves. Perhaps they would rather people just buy the actual remote...
From what I understand, you have to pay Sony to use the bluetooth connectivity. In fact, I'm not even sure that just anybody can use the bluetooth connectivity for remotes. It's the reason you never see a third party PS3 controller that ISN'T a dongle wireless connection. And from the PS3 XMB, you need a controller to connect and control the PS3.
While in video playback the same holds true as well. But the difference in this blu-ray remote is that Blu-rays can access and have Java content AND Internet connected content control the movie. All the Android remote is is a wifi and Java marriage controlling your Blu-ray content.
Sadly, it isn't simply your phone directly connected to your PS3. If you read about the remote, it actually has to connect to your home network THEN it'll connect to your PS3. It's not even a direct connection. I believe the whole process only works on those Blu-rays that specifically mention the pocket Blu app. The only one I own is a Universal movie (Back to the Future).
Yeah this is fun
Was at my brother in laws house and I saw the ad for it on the bluray. He didn't know what was going on when I would go to the root menu or fast forward the movie. Great fun.
Yeah sony is odd with not being alittle more open with what get connected.
My logitech headset will not work with the ps3 as for game audio being piped into tge headset but I can go buy a headset that costs near a used ps3
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I got excited until i kept reading the posts . Makes be wonder if phones like the Xperia play and such will get more love from Sony towards the PS3.
Now if o could only play games using it as a on screen controller
I'm not a Mik.....but my EVO is!
Since the Sony BD remote is just bluetooth,
I wonder if it is possible to just emulate the handshake and calls that the BD remote does with the bluetooth chip on any phone.

Pretty sure it has less to do with people wanting the actual remote and more to do with Sony wanting to charge $30+ for the actual remote.
So when is an xbox remote control app coming to Android?
I came across THIS APP which led me to THIS HARDWARE
Kinda cool. Expensive though; ~$300

It's cool. I love to fly.
I saw this a while back but it was only for iOS back then. I'm glad to see them coming over to the dark side. I'm enough of a nerd as to go out and buy this. lol
Edit: Wait, I think they still may only support iPhones.
Edit again: There are apps in the Android market! Time to get on eBay! lol
im planning to get one of these toys
The British Car show Top Gear tested the iPhone version of that in the News Segment of the East America Special.......
http://www.ecrater.com/p/10813807/parrot-ardrone-quadricopter-controlled-by
I have 2 of these (see http://headloaf.co.uk for some stuff I've done with them).
There is already a development thread on ardrone-flyers.com with regards to Android control but I am sure that they will apreciate some input from this community too.
This is a great 'toy' and the community at ardrone-flyers.com are always looking to improve it even more. We've even managed to mount GPS to it and control it using 7ch TX rather than WiFi....loads of fun to be head with these!
It is designed for iOS use buy there are several scripts that can be run on the drone itself (as the drone runs off a linux base) so that it can be controlled via PC/Laptop, Mac, Android - these can all be found on ardrone-flyers.com along with some scripts for object tracking etc.
They are also some similar toys, which are working with bluetooth, even with older mobiles
That's freaking cool!!
Maybe after I pay some bills off and figure out how to pay for a wedding I will revisit this I love to fly RC planes and helicopers and I love playing with my phone so this is 2 awesome things in one!
Cool ... ... one day I'll get my hands on this techie stuff and control using an Android
that is Fking wicked just like the heli i build myself back when i was kid using foam and RC set.
but this is using the PHONE!!!!!!!! as the controller AWEOME!
i wonder how far is the range of those things

Range is 50 meters, but according to this:
http://www.ardrone-flyers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=807
You can stretch that out to 150-200 meters using some hardware and a little good old fashioned ADB.
it is cool cant wait to see some more of your future work
pretty sweet! can't wait to spy on my parents with this.
Even on ebay the price tag on this thing is high in would love to have one but I just don't see spending 300 on this plus parts if you want to mod it out

Can someone specificy what this means
Play with other users via a Wi-Fi network
Another major feature is the use of several AR.Drone on a network.
Thanks to its own generated Wi-Fi network, players can create a game party where others players can join and play against each other.

Does this mean it creates a WiFi channel in which the phone connects to so it would work anywhere within the Generated WiFi range, e.g. my giant backyard?
EDIT:
* What type of connection is established between the AR.Drone and the iPhone?
The AR.Drone is connected to the iPhone by an ad hoc Wi-Fi link.
* Do I need a Wi-Fi router to operate my AR.Drone?
No, the AR.Drone creates its own Wi-Fi network. The iPhone(or device) can then connect to it just like with any Wi-Fi network.

Wow!
I also got one but it`s a pain in the axx to connect them with each other each time. Since Android does not support Ad-Hoc Wireless , we have to trick the AR Drone into Telnet thru your PC.
This means you have to carry a PC/Laptop with you to play with AR DRONE each time you want to turn on your Ar Drone
Kinda sucks ha ?
Read this LINK , this is how I get them to connect to each other .....
Anybody knows any better method to connect them ? I mean how to enable AD HOC on Android , I tried all the methods but none of them worked so far ... Is there an application or something ?
My phones are HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S

Well - this thread got me going a couple of days on getting a Drone
But have not found the time / probably won't either ... one thing I did read though is that it is possible to have the AR Drone connect to a WLAN (infrastructure - not adhoc).
It has some limitations concerning the IPs you use and probably security - but perhaps it is less a pain to carry around an extra router with your configured AR-WLAN
Google it - it was not hard to find
This is unrelated to Android but well worth posting.
For those of you in the RC hobby you've got to check out the Blade mCPx

Thanks! I was JUST thinking about what I needed to hook up to my HDTV since HBO Go was just released yesterday. Works great on my E4GT, but I'd much rather show it on my HDTV.
Assuming that works, which I'm not actually sure it will. But only one way to find out...
lol i was about to post this! I bought mine a about 10 minutes ago, at that price i started to buy 2.... $8.51 shipped for me
I got one thanks. Beats $20 I was planning to spend on Amazon.
Just ordered it. Was a tad bit over 8 bucks after taxes shipped to Virginia Beach. Freaking awesome deal!
Great price, but it's one of those doodads i'll buy and use once and once the novelty wears off, sits in my drawer never to be used again. No real need or use really for me.
comes in handy when playing mario kart vs a friend

i'm in for one too, thanks
Got mine in today, I played it with it for about an hour. It works pretty well but sometimes the screen will go black on the TV every now and then. I played DeadSpace and wreckless getaway for about 15 minutes, the phone got really hot, but it looked really good on the TV. If i have any problems watching Netflix using the doohickey Ill add it to this post. Not bad for 8.50.
My 3 year old daughter likes playing fruit roll on the TV, she's trying to touch the TV instead of the phone to make the guy jump haha.

Anyone else not so impressed by the adapter?
Can't beat the price, but was just curious if others are experiencing better quality than myself.
got mine yesterday! im pretty satisfied and it looks great on my tv
Just got my adapter yesterday, but i'm having trouble getting it to work. I tried three different hdmi cables and it seems like there's no input going to the TV. Is there a setting on the phone that i'm suppose to select for this to work? Thanks!
Plug in the power (phone charger into the micro USB on the side of the device), plug the HDMI cable into the adapter, then plug the phone in. That's all.

Why don't you just use Plex from Play Store and an MHL lead.
Software installs on the phone and PC, then streams to the phone. When you want to use the TV just plug it into the MHL lead, it charges this way too.

I've been wanting to use the navigation screen for GTR like gauges for a while, I've seen some projects try to use gauges using a carputer and even a Raspberry Pi, which looked really promising.
I have Nexus 5 Android phone and use several apps with a bluetooth ODB adaptor.
But first I started by using a console phone mount from proclip, and a wedge to get the right angle.
I've been using the Nexus wireless Qi charger at home and it has magnets so I can just drop the phone on it and it holds very firmly and charges it.
I decide to use this in the car, I love dropping the phone down and having it charging and being able to access the screen easily. I love the look too, not some bulky phone holder. I LOVE wireless charging, it's one of the main reasons I love the Nexus.
I had a reverse camera installed a while ago by SonicMS, they used a system similar to the one sold by Alekshop:
http://alekshop.com/products/multimedia_interface_kit_with_rear_camera_for_2009_bmws
This interface has aux inputs that weren't wired by SonicMS so I opened it up and used a spare set of RCA cables and ran them into my glove box.
I purchased a RCA to HDMI converter from Amazon, and my initial plan was to get a MHL to HDMI adaptor for the phone and a iPad to HDMI adaptor for my iPad.
But THEN... I thought, it would be so awesome to keep everything wireless, and hook up a Chromecast, so that's what I did
I setup the Tasker app from the Google Play store to do a bunch of things when it connects to the bluetooth in my M3 (tasker is another reason I love the Nexus, can't do this stuff with apple devices).
First Tasker starts the Internet sharing hotspot, and I used a plugin called Autocast to automatically cast my screen to the Chromecast, then does a bunch of other things (sets screen to not turn off, brightness all the way up, launch google maps, etc.).
The Chromecast automatically connects to the Nexus hotspot once it becomes available.
So now all I do is drop the phone on my wireless charger, and everything connects automatically, the only extra step I have to do is hold down the Menu button in my car to switch to the aux input.
Now I can easily watch Netflix, or Hulu or any app from my phone on the Nav screen, it's so awesome! It's not the best resolution, but for me it's fine.
Here are a few pics with a the Torque app:
Really Cool!, I recently installed an Aftermarket Head unit on my Z.. I will give it a try!. How did you managed to view the Torque App and the navigation at the same time?

Thanks Kevin
The split screen is native functionality of the BMW Navigation head unit, didn't have to do anything special.
Have you noticed the phone getting extremely hot while doing this? I've also been wanting to use the nexus wireless charger in the car, but the few times I used it, it was reaching 110F+ while only listening to music and charging (I think it's a bit cooler if the battery is over 90%, but still). I can't imagine how hot it would get with the screen on + an intensive task.
