Hi guys,
I bought a One x a couple of days ago. I had a htc Desire before, my question is are there root posibilities like using a Windows program to root? If not will be there a program to root the One x without needing to unlock it with the site of HTC.

Unlocking is only possible by using htcdev at the moment

Thats what i mean. Now you have to unlock the phone using htcdev. But will there be another method to unlock the One X? Because of the warranty issue using htcdev.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium App
I've been thinking of warranty issues as well. I'll wait a bit more, maybe someone releases a root method not involving HTCDev, but I believe it's quite unlikely. Let's hope when they get S-OFF, they won't be needing the HTCDev unlock to do it

Hey lucky One X owners,
I searched, but didn't find any thread with this subject, so I'm sorry if already exists one...
Did anyone tried method 1 on this thread to SIM unlock the One X?
Thanks for your answers
I gave it a go but my device outputs nothing, so method 1 doesn't seem to work, I can't try the ADB method as I'm at work at the mo

Ok, thanks for the info
Now I must decide if I'll buy an unlocked one that will cost more, or a locked one and find a cheap way to unlock it
Thanks for your help
Go for the unlocked version. The price difference probably isn't worth it

well, I finally bought my One X (arrived 2days ago) but the best deal I found was with a sim locked one.
I should followed jmpmjmpm advice because now I can't find a code to unlock it...
I tried on this 3 different sites and so far none of them was able to provide me an unlock code...
http://www.mobileunlocked.co.uk/
http://cellphoneunlock.net/
http://www.cellunlocker.net/
Has anyone manage to unlock a HOX already? Where did you bought the code?
Thanks
EDIT: Finally I get it unlock!!
After 22h cellunlocker manage to provide me an unlock code.
So if someone is in the same situation, give them a try
See this too
I'm curious as to why everyone is so willing to use HTC dev to unlock their bootloader as opposed to wait/find for third-party solutions that don't compromise your rights to solid hardware?

Because I can't wait and so far I have no problem with Htc Centre for warranty claims for both my One V and there is no problem yet for my One X to send in to Htc Centre.
Boredem?
Like anything if you change your suspension on a car it invalidates some warranty . I did it because I wanted to enjoy my new one x. Y wait if something is already there.

This way is a fair contract between HTC and the user. That´s why i prefer HTC Dev. I know about the risks. If one rom damages my device, i have to take responsibility, like for all, i´ve decided in my life. I won´t hide me behind a bush
I unlocked with htcdev because my phones insured, if anything goes wrong I'll just make a claim saying I've lost it

Well, why not right? They already gave us one free step which can also be reverted.

Because my phone is from 3UK, so was only one choice to use HTC Dev and I unlocked bootloader. For me it was very easy and simple task.
Well i am experiencing abnormal behaviour on my HOX....the network only show for 5 sec and then goes off....then again after sometime the signals come but again for 5 sec....so short story i want to send my hox to htc for repair...but the bootloader is unlocked...the phone is rooted and is running a custom rom...what should i do to make it look completely like stock....how do i relock my bootloader?? And which stock ruu should i flash..and after doing all this, will htc would know that my phone was ever rooted or the bootloader was unlocked.... Thanks..

I'm pretty sure you can't "relock" your bootloader, HTC keep records of which phones have been unlocked through htcdev.com so even if you do manage to go back to stock, they will still know that it has been unlocked at some point.
You can relock your bootloader, but it will say relocked so htc will know about it. Are you sure its hardware fault though? Have you tried flashing another ROM/kernel?

I tried different roms and radios but no luck...it looks like my $600 phone will be turned into a high end android media device....any suggestions???? Is it worth to tell htc that my phone is unlocked and then ask what they can do to help me???

Wait, so you're getting a new M8 cause you can't S-OFF the one you have? Or do you actually have a valid reason?...
(Yes, there's a chance the next one might work btw...)

Is there any way to unlock the boot loader without HTC dev? Or gain s off before unlocking the boot loader because I know it can be done once s off is gained. Fire water worked on my last T-Mobile HTC one m8. Also does sunshine s off work on the new T-Mobile 2.22 update? Thanks

Yes Sunshine works on all updates currently, all though according to someone else somewhere it may be patched soon. Either way for now it works on all firmware. Sunshine will root your phone then unlock the bootloader and S-OFF your phone.

I watched a video on YouTube that said a person needs to unlock their boot loader first. Then do the sunshine s off. So you're saying it does all of this by itself? If so then it's definitely worth the 25 bucks because I've never seen an app do all of this myself although I've only been modding for 3.5 years.

Yes the M8 I am currently using was not rooted, unlocked or S-OFF when I got it and I used Sunshine and it rooted my phone and unlocked/S-OFF'd it all at once. Maybe the video you watched was for an older HTC phone before things were as simple, either way Sunshine does it all and is well worth the $25 if you want to mod things.
Lastly don't degrade yourself because you've only been modding for 3.5 years, to me that is quite an achievement that I wish I personally had. I've only really been interested in phones since my S4. Ever since then I've been addicted to modding my phone to the fullest.

I can't get T-Mobile service where I live sadly so I'm a Verizon user. Though if you're asking that because you're wondering if it only works on Verizon models then no, it works on all variants. It says so on the official thread also if that makes you any less worried.
SunShine has been updated and no longer needs your device to be rooted or unlocked before running. SunShine will gain root itself, and unlock/s-off every variant of the m8 currently. Cheers!

I'm just curious but were you letting Sunshine root your phone itself or did you try using a temp root like Weak sauce?
