[Q] Rom Toolbox Restore question. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I bought Rom Toolbox because i read u can backup and restore apps without problems but thats not the case with me. I backup all the apps fine then i would go on to flash xROM now i wanna restore the apps.. but when i do it always hangs on a random app every time. I can restore each app individually but never batch restore...also for some reason it wont restore data like my dolphin browser i have some bookmarks and stuff n i restored with rom toolbox and it restored the app but not the bookmark n stuff i had on there. Does this mean im doing something wrong? Or is there an option i need to turn on.

Nope, I had that very issue. My guess its a app bug that they haven't fixed yet

Oh so im not the only one with this issue... hope someone can shed some light on this.

Been thinking about purchasing the app.. Free version works fine for me but from what I see this could be a deal breaker.. For now anyways since I do batch install with the free version with no problem.

I tried out the free version and same issue.... idk whats going on....

Just used an older version and it works fine

I occasionally have that problem with titanium backup with a random app, but never any issues with Rom toolbox..

Ok could having both tb and rom toolbox be the cause? Or should i try an older version? If so which one?

Ok i found out Rom Toolbox backs up my app but not the data. Now when i batch backup data for some reason it hangs at a random app... also when i wanna batch restore app + data it hangs also. If i try to restore a single app it does that fine but it won't restore the data with it. If i try to restore the app with data it just hangs... so I'm not sure what's the problem.. tib does not have this problem but i heard its not good to restore data on ics with tib. Anyone else experience this?

go to titanium back up...when you back up apps...it asks you...app only...or app + data... and it does the same thing will hang up on a random app...

Just did it and it did not hang unlike rom toolbox which hangs everytime.

I had to go into system settings -> Applications -> Development and check "USB debugging". Rom Toolbox wasn't restore apps before, but is now restoring them after I checked this option. The description that pops up when you check it says it allows apps to be installed without the users knowledge.
Rom Toolbox uses silent restore in it's batch mode so you don't have to tap "install" and "done" for each app that's restored, so USB debugging is important.

I had the same problem, and USB debuggig worked for me, so thanks! Great advice!
Also, I'm on a Cyanogen based rom and I had to disable "verify ADB installed apps" to get it working...

A backup is a great idea but the problem i encounter is that as soon as i log back into my google account it starts to download all the apps again anyway.
Any idea how to stop that happening? Having a solid backup would be way easier than wasting all that mobile data every time i flash a new ROM, which is often.

Forgot to add that as u log back in to your Google account after a new flash, if its prompts u that Google is able to restore apps and settings for u, decline it.

What is the first thing you do after flashing a new rom?

Just for fun. But who knows, it might help someone out there.
First thing I do is to install titanium backup and restore my preferred keyboard - Swype. There is surprisingly no rom that comes with this as default keyboard. Nobody here uses it?
After that I just check out what the rom has to offer and see if everything's working right. If I like it I start restoring my apps and setting up stuff.

Actually I have not installed a custom rom yet but I still do this after wiping data
and will also do the same when I flash a custom rom
I turn of my use of packet data as it charges more money

just joking.
login my google account, and sync my contacts. install root explorer, link2sd, reboot, restore apps or data thru titanium, then explorer the rom. oh before i forgot, i text my own number to be sure that i have the correct csc.
and lastly, install opera mini, go to xda, give a feedback. hope it helps, just a reminder, reboot first. hahaha

after flashing new roms, I boot the Phone, then go over all the Android Introductory questions until i get into the phone's menu... after that, I restart my phone. Boot into recovery, and wipe /cache and /data. reboot. and then go over the android questions. Check the hardware if they are still working, and observe if there are any differences.. I then set up my calendar, alarms, ringtones... restore messages from sim card, reinstall apps as APKs. The last thing I do is login to google, then to Samsung for the SIM Change Alert...
First, I get rid of the bloatwares (if any). Then, I restore my apps w/ Titanium Backup. Then, I login to Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

(I am talking about a rom which I hv alrdy tested to be ok.. otherwise.. I 1st check if everything that comes with the ROM is ok or not!!)

first i look if my forn vids are still there lol,
then titainum backup, then crack it, remove bloatwares, esp. google maps

-Check the about phone info

-when satisfied restore all appd via tb

first, i turn off data mode
second, i check the all the apps that comes with the rom
third, i check the running background services
fourth, root and restore my apps etc.
This thread helps me a lot ..
Btw.. First thing after wiping data or reflashing is rooting, restore apps from titanium, set ringtone, wallpaper and then set the setting of my phone and some apps. add some launcher (GO launcher EX) and then install memory cleaner (1 tap) .. and uhmmm.... i CHEck if there is anything wrong in my phone by dialing *#0*#. I hope there is an app that checks everything on the phone's hardware so that im not so tired of checking it's application like camera or music player if it's working... is there any??
That's absolutely essential for me Titanium all the way

[Q] Titanium Backup issue after ICS

I just flashed Mr X's Telus stock ICS ROM, and I'm having trouble with Titanium Backup. I have the proper backup folder selected, and the little toast pops up with the correct number of app elements, but when I hit batch, it doesn't show that I have any backups to restore. It shows only the apps that are on the phone stock. Any suggestions? This is driving me nuts.

Did you manually go explore the directory you had the backups in before to ensure that they are actually still there? Like with root explorer, etc?
You could try clearing data in application manager and re-install, try to copy the backup directory somewhere else, then specify in settings where it is.. Maybe its a cache issue?
Good luck

I think u may need to root agin, mr.x's rom was made to be stock with no root. The ics root files are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705565
I have root. Titanium and Root Explorer are granted access.

Try restoring a single app. with my ICS flash I got prompted that the phone ID was different that what was used to install TB and through the prompt I reset the phone back to the original ID, and it allowed the restore. Just wondering if you are not seeing a prompt due to the batch mode..
I figured it out. Apparently the default setting now is to filter out apps not currently installed. How [email protected]#!& stupid is that?! After three flashes and as many hours I find this.:banghead:

Hey OP, im having the same problem. I can restore apps one by one manually but when i try to batch restore all my apps it doesnt work. What specifically did u do to fix this issue?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
My issue was that it would not show me the apps to be installed, and I had to tap on Filters and set to All so it would show me those not yet installed.
To batch restore, you need the paid version. If you have the Pro Key, but it's not working, uninstall and re-install.

I haven't had any issues with restoring apps with TB on my rooted SGIII. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems either (but know that a lot of people are using it successfully). I've used it with every rom I've flashed.
What do you mean when you say it "appears" you can't use it?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Don't you have to pay for it to restore backups across different Android versions? I could be mistaken. TB is the reason I rooted mine it the first place after I got the GSIII to replace my Epic 4G.
You should only have to pay for the full version with all of the GOODIES. You should download root checker to see if your fully rooted. you may be missing busybox or some other vital part. TB seems to be working for everyone else I know that has an S III.
I quess maybe the ui is different from the evo. I would press menu button then select batch and restore that way. Now i don't even see a batch option but when i first go i to the app it gives me a msg that i need to check unknown sources or something to allow other apps to be installed hell i don't even see that as a option.
Upper right hand corner icon will bring up the options for batch operations.

You will need to check the unknown sources box. From home screen: menu, settings, security, scroll down to unknown sources, check box, done.
Also, one of the recent updates (not sure which one) they moved the batch ops to the top right corner.
Good Luck!
Note that TB also make backups of system apps, and system apps are not always compatible with every ROM out there. So TB wont be able to restore them.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
not to hijack the OP, but is it possible to create a zip of your apps in TB so after reflashing a rom you could just flash that zip while in recovery and upon rebooting, your apps would already be installed?
I don't think TB does that, but there is an app in the the Play store that does make a flashable zip of your apps. App2zip or something like that.

[Q] Titanium Backup Pro can't uninstall stock apps

Hi,
I recently updated my Hercules T989 to Jellybean 4.1.2 via Kies. When I was on ICS, I could easily uninstall the t-mobile stock apps(or any other stock apps) using Titanium Backup Pro. But after upgrading to JB 4.1.2, I cant uninstall a single stock app. I tried updating Titanium backup pro from 4.1 to 4.5.6 but its still the same. It can freeze the apps but one app: 't-mobile accounts' unfreezes itself. I dont know how it happens. By the way, the device is rooted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Are you sure Titanium Backup has root permissions? Check your Superuser app log and make sure they're being granted. You need root access for Titanium Backup to be able to remove/freeze system apps (like the built-in stuff).

Yes, I have checked it. TB has been granted root permissions. TB successfully freezes all my system apps. But only one app - "T-Mobile My Accounts" unfreezes itself automatically after a while. I dont know how or why that happens. All my other system apps stay frozen except that one single app. And about uninstalling, none of the system apps can be uninstalled. When I run the batch operation to uninstall, it shows the progress bar but gets stuck at 0%. No progress at all.

TB freezes all my stock apps. but as I mentioned earlier, one app - "T-Mobile My accounts" unfreezes itself after a while. And when I try uninstalling any stock apps, it just gets stuck. The progress bar doesnt move (show any progress). I am attaching a link to a screenshot about what happens.

Please if anyone has found the solution to this problem, I would be very very grateful.
PS. : As other members suggested, I have checked everything. The Chuck Norris mode is on. TB has root permissions. Everything seems to be in order.

Sounds like you are using a stock based ROM then. So you will have to live with that app. Otherwise you may cause problems by trying to delete or freeze it. Anybody that is determined to remove it, you can use a root based file explorer and delete the apk from the system/app folder. Backup the app somewhere by copying & pasting it in another folder, so you can replace it later if you start experiencing issues.
