A backup is a great idea but the problem i encounter is that as soon as i log back into my google account it starts to download all the apps again anyway.
Any idea how to stop that happening? Having a solid backup would be way easier than wasting all that mobile data every time i flash a new ROM, which is often.

Forgot to add that as u log back in to your Google account after a new flash, if its prompts u that Google is able to restore apps and settings for u, decline it.

Restore SMS on CM7/MIUI?

MIUI and CM7 both say to do a full wipe and not restore system settings, otherwise you risk getting random bugs.
As far as I've been able to figure out, my SMS messages are stored in system settings in Titanium Backup.
So is there any way to get them back without doing a full system settings restore?

I don't think so, because when you restore the system file it would also restore other things from the previous Rom...
There is a app to back up sms. So best thing would be go back to Rom you were using and use that app, I don't know the name of but its in the market, and then you will always have them because of the app no matter what Rom you are on

Thanks.
I prefer the idea of storing them on SD card rather than Gmail so "SMS Backup & Restore" seems to do the job nicely.
Only caveat is it doesn't backup MMS.
The market app "syncmypix" does a great job of pulling FB pics into the native GB contacts app.
For anyone else making the jump...

[Q] Change Google Accounts/Titanium Backup

Ok so, I'm looking to change my Google account, right after a full wipe and everything. But i want to keep all my apps and their data. So my question is...what do I need to select in Titanium to do this? I tried not restoring system data, but that didn't work. So i guess I'm wondering if there's some way I can still get most of my stuff back without getting the Google account settings back.

You go into titanium backup press menu/batch then pick the second option backup all user apps.
After you are backup after your wipe open titanium backup press menu/batch then pick the 9th option, restore missing apps with data then you should be good to go

What is the first thing you do after flashing a new rom?

Just for fun. But who knows, it might help someone out there.
First thing I do is to install titanium backup and restore my preferred keyboard - Swype. There is surprisingly no rom that comes with this as default keyboard. Nobody here uses it?
After that I just check out what the rom has to offer and see if everything's working right. If I like it I start restoring my apps and setting up stuff.
Post yours.

Actually I have not installed a custom rom yet but I still do this after wiping data
and will also do the same when I flash a custom rom
I turn of my use of packet data as it charges more money

login my google account, and sync my contacts. install root explorer, link2sd, reboot, restore apps or data thru titanium, then explorer the rom. oh before i forgot, i text my own number to be sure that i have the correct csc.
and lastly, install opera mini, go to xda, give a feedback. hope it helps, just a reminder, reboot first. hahaha

after flashing new roms, I boot the Phone, then go over all the Android Introductory questions until i get into the phone's menu... after that, I restart my phone. Boot into recovery, and wipe /cache and /data. reboot. and then go over the android questions. Check the hardware if they are still working, and observe if there are any differences.. I then set up my calendar, alarms, ringtones... restore messages from sim card, reinstall apps as APKs. The last thing I do is login to google, then to Samsung for the SIM Change Alert...
First, I get rid of the bloatwares (if any). Then, I restore my apps w/ Titanium Backup. Then, I login to Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

-Check the about phone info
-check wifi
-check if gplay is working right
-check the music player and gallery
-randomly test all the goodies that come with it
-when satisfied restore all appd via tb

first, i turn off data mode
second, i check the all the apps that comes with the rom
third, i check the running background services
fourth, root and restore my apps etc.
This thread helps me a lot ..
Btw.. First thing after wiping data or reflashing is rooting, restore apps from titanium, set ringtone, wallpaper and then set the setting of my phone and some apps. add some launcher (GO launcher EX) and then install memory cleaner (1 tap) .. and uhmmm.... i CHEck if there is anything wrong in my phone by dialing *#0*#. I hope there is an app that checks everything on the phone's hardware so that im not so tired of checking it's application like camera or music player if it's working... is there any??
That's absolutely essential for me Titanium all the way

[Q] Rom Toolbox Restore question.

I bought Rom Toolbox because i read u can backup and restore apps without problems but thats not the case with me. I backup all the apps fine then i would go on to flash xROM now i wanna restore the apps.. but when i do it always hangs on a random app every time. I can restore each app individually but never batch restore...also for some reason it wont restore data like my dolphin browser i have some bookmarks and stuff n i restored with rom toolbox and it restored the app but not the bookmark n stuff i had on there. Does this mean im doing something wrong? Or is there an option i need to turn on.
Nope, I had that very issue. My guess its a app bug that they haven't fixed yet
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Oh so im not the only one with this issue... hope someone can shed some light on this.
Been thinking about purchasing the app.. Free version works fine for me but from what I see this could be a deal breaker.. For now anyways since I do batch install with the free version with no problem.

I tried out the free version and same issue.... idk whats going on....
Just used an older version and it works fine
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I occasionally have that problem with titanium backup with a random app, but never any issues with Rom toolbox..
Ok could having both tb and rom toolbox be the cause? Or should i try an older version? If so which one?
Ok i found out Rom Toolbox backs up my app but not the data. Now when i batch backup data for some reason it hangs at a random app... also when i wanna batch restore app + data it hangs also. If i try to restore a single app it does that fine but it won't restore the data with it. If i try to restore the app with data it just hangs... so I'm not sure what's the problem.. tib does not have this problem but i heard its not good to restore data on ics with tib. Anyone else experience this?

go to titanium back up...when you back up apps...it asks you...app only...or app + data... and it does the same thing will hang up on a random app...
Just did it and it did not hang unlike rom toolbox which hangs everytime.
I had to go into system settings -> Applications -> Development and check "USB debugging". Rom Toolbox wasn't restore apps before, but is now restoring them after I checked this option. The description that pops up when you check it says it allows apps to be installed without the users knowledge.
Rom Toolbox uses silent restore in it's batch mode so you don't have to tap "install" and "done" for each app that's restored, so USB debugging is important.

I had the same problem, and USB debuggig worked for me, so thanks! Great advice!
Also, I'm on a Cyanogen based rom and I had to disable "verify ADB installed apps" to get it working...

[Q] How to Reinstall all apps after full wipe?

I am doing full wipe almost every week because of new developments on Sandvold´s ICS. Is it possible to quickly reinstall all apps and widgets after a full wipe? How?
Titanium backup from market or my backup root what i use because u can just save the app without all the data. Just backup all apps then put the backup file on ur computer, then once u have flashed rom update just download the app again off market then send ur backup file back to ur phone(usb) then using the app to restore apps
Sent from my HTC Desire
For me (using BCM ICS) it works great with the google backup. Just choose to backup settings like apps, Wifi passwords etc via Google. When I enter my google password the first time using the new rom, it asks if it should restore my settings. It then downloads all of my apps directly from the play store. However for most apps it doesn't include your app data, but that's OK for me.

I have installed Titanium (free version), and it says:
(...)
Hypershell (fast): NO (only for donators)
Apps installation fast/auto: No (Hypershell required)
(...)
I guess Titanium only does the full backup, with fast apps installation if I donate, right?

The free version of Titanium also restores all your apps with data but you have to confirm each app to be restored. This can be somewhat annoying if you have lots of apps to restore.

But I cant find "Google Backup" on play store. What is the name of the app?
PS: Ive already installed Titanium, but I also wanted to know about "Google Backup"
It's not on Play store. It is found under settings in aosp and >= Sense 2.1 roms. It remembers apps list and starts downloading them after you flash a new rom. I hate this feature.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
Right, it's nothing you need to install. It should be at Settings -> Backup & reset -> "Back up my data".
It can be a bit annoying, especially if your device immediately starts to download tons of data before connecting to wifi, eating up your mobile data limit. (However this backup includes wifi passwords, too). So if you don't have unlimited data, just ensure your device connects to wifi after restoring your google account.
Re:
From what my friend told it should work with the Play Store.
it doesn't seem to be possible with all roms though? Only once my past apps have installed automatically...
