Hi all, my Desire Z's screen has decided to stop displaying anything, but the digitiser still seems to work as I'm able to turn on the HTC torch app from my lock screen and change the brightness.
The handset is rooted and has the Ice Cream SENSEwich rom(link) on it.
What I really need is for someone to post some screenshots of the menu structure to get to enabling the HTC sync mode as at the moment by default I have it set to the usb mode bring disabled.
I'm gutted at the moment...it was working one minute then not the next. In the time between working and not, it was only in my pocket!
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!
I have made a guide to unrooting with a broken screen, link here
Unfortunately I don't have that rom and can't really be bothered flashing it to get you screenshots.

Download droid explorer or something similar to a pc, run the program, connect your phone and hit the screencast feature. Now even with no lcd you can navigate with your computer. A little laggy but it worked for me many o times

Hey guys,
Here's my problem:
I dropped my desire with amoled screen, which made the glass and the screen behind that break. I bought a new touch screen and lcd-screen and repaired my phone, but now I can get the phone on, but I don't see anything.
I searched on the internet and thought the problem might be that I first had a amoled screen and now have a lcd-screen. That means I got the wrong rom.
The real problem here is, that when I connect the phone to the computer, the computer does not get regonize the phone (probebly because I choose the charge only option the last time).
How do I get my phone to work properly again?

A friend of mine, gave me today an HTC Wildfire S, who found laying in the street. Problem is that i can't boot it, even in bootloader (Vol Down + Power) if i try to boot into bootloader only a tiny red light appears on one sensor, and if i try to boot into android, it appears to boot but nothing appears on the screen.
Any Advice?
Is it detected when connected to a PC?

I thought about a lot of things as your post didn't have a lot of info:
1- you aren't aware of battery level, leave it for an hour or two connected to the computer to recharge the battery.
2- do you have hTC Sync 3.0 ? You have to have it so the computer can recognize the phone.
3- putting it to the bootloader mode and nothing appearing on the screen makes me a bit worried.
Let us know how things will go !!!

1 - Full Charged, at least charging light now is green (was orange before, like in other HTC's)
2 - Yes, i also have ADB drivers installed, but nothing appears with cmd "adb devices"
3 - I don't know if is rooted, or has USB debugging on.
Best thing to do is use xtc clip, create gold card etc and flash the Rom.

I've found the problem. Looks like screen backlight is working fine, but no info is coming to it. I know because when i press touch buttons they vibrate, and vol buttons sounds when i press. So, do you know where can i get a cheap LCD screen replacement in EU?
Thx in advance
How about trying to find out who is its real owner and return it to him or her?
Can you feel confortable using something you know it is not yours?

tottaly agreed. just think when you lost yourself your HH..
It would be a nice idea, but my friend found it without SIM or microSD and can't get it work, so if you have any idea about how to find the owner, I'm listening.

After getting an LCD replacement and booting it up properly you could check the accounts & sync settings to see the Google account they used with the phone. That way you can maybe contact them. Contacts are also saved on phone memory, so you could have a look there.
If you did find the owner then you could charge him a little extra for finding and repairing it.
need the solution
I have the exact same problem with my HTC Wildfire S.
So what did you do with that phone?
So i recently got a free upgrade to a inc 2 by turning my og inc in under warranty for a blow speaker (for the third time) and i naturally rooted it and installed a nice miui rom. Now about a month later im out of town for work and the screen has died. The phone is still operational, but the screen is black.
I am wondering if this could possibly a firmware issue? i have tried pulling the battery and booting into recovery but the screen is 100% useless. the touchscreen still seems to work, i can unlock it and answer calls ect...
My hunch is that its a hardware problem, but i'd like to try and flash it back to stock if possible to eliminate the possibility of a rom issue.
Does anyone know a way to flash a rom onto it without the use of the screen?
Can i use the HTC sync tool to set it back to stock like i could with the OG incredible?
Any help is much appreciated, i'm pretty desperate here.
if it was me, I'd flash it back to stock using a ruu file, then do a warranty claim, cause then if it's a firmware/software issue the ruu will fix it. There's a thread somewhere around that has instructions to do that, give me a minute...
Edit -found it! Here ya go- http://rootzwiki.com/topic/1579-how-to-restore-to-stock-from-alpharevx-incredible-2-vivow-only/page__st__53

ok, so my new issue is that if i flash the ruu, and the screen still doesn't work, i'll be stuck at the setup wizard right? then i won't even be able to use google voice to make calls from my laptop. i guess ill have to wait till i get home, this would be so much easier if my pos nextel work phone had service out here in wyoming.
Yea, that's a tough one, I definitely wouldn't flash an RUU for the exact reason you bring up.
One option, although it isn't without it's own challenges, would be to try to install a VNC server on your phone, so you could then connect to and use it through a desktop computer. You could probably install it easy enough through the Android Market web site. Here's one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.onaips.vnc
If you download the Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html), connect your phone to your computer, open a command prompt and run ddms, it'll bring up the Dalvic Debug Monitor. Here, you can go to Device>Screen Capture and it'll bring up a window showing the screen of your phone. There's a refresh button which will refresh the screenshot. It'll be a little hit or miss, but you should be able to reference the screenshot to tap on your blank screen to open the VNC app, hit the start server button, and then see what IP/port it's listening on.
Once you get the VNC server running and connect, you should be able to use the phone fairly easily, although if the screen is dead even during boot (no initial boot screen, no display in h-boot) it would seem like a hardware problem and there's probably not much you can do about it.

Where is it indicating that it's the wrong device if you have no screen?

I ran into a similar problem with black screen over the weekend.
However my phone was not rooted.
This is how it happened.
I was using my phone then I saw the screen flicker once or twice, then it went black.
I pulled out the battery and powered up again.
The phone vibrated, and after a while the four bottom buttons light up.
The volume keys work and I could receive incoming calls, but the screen just stays black.
One thing to note is that my pocket was a little wet before I pulled out the phone to use.
Also that I did use my phone for a good 5-10 mins before it went black.
What I am trying to determine is if it is a software issue or hardware.
Are the bottom button lights separate from LCD screen, so that even if they light up it could still mean LCD is bad?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
Hello to all, I read alot on this forum, but decided to register as I believe that there are very intelligent individuals on this forum.
Yesterday I tried the "HTC Function Test Program 1.03g" on my HTC Wildfire (WWE_2.22.405.1). I did this by calling the number: #*#*3424#*#*
I did a "Display Test" which displayed a white screen and dissapeared by pressing the back key. After doing that test I noticed the screen doesn't sleep, in other words the screen remains on with back lighting.
Today my phone paused and I saw a very colorful graphic on the display so I had to reboot / removed battery.
The screen was blank, after trying to remove the battery etc I managed to boot untill enter sim code but right after that the screen went blank again.
Now I have figured out that the phone is running normally, the screen is blank though. After reading in the forums I successfully reinstalled the RUU Ver. (RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed)
But still blank screen. My feeling tells me that the display has somehow been disabled. I cannot boot into recovery mode (Volume-down+power on) as the screen is still blank. No matter what I do, screen blank.
The phone seems to still be alive.
Any ideas what I could try? I have done this test on another phone now, and the screen is staying on now, so Im worried if I reboot it, I will end up with blank screen.
Please give me some ideas on what to try I would be very grateful.

Hi,
I'm a new member here. This is also my first android phone I ever had. I've searched if someone already has similar problem, but I didn't find any thread with the explanation so I decided to make a new thread.
Here is the situation:
I have Wildfire S, system is updated to android 2.3.5 ; software number 2.26.169.1
My problem is unlocking. Sometimes, when I press unlocking (power) button at the top of the phone light doesn't appear on the screen (only sensor buttons are lighten at that moment). After that I put my finger where ring lock should be shown and slide my finger up, and the phone unlocks... After pressing the power button at the top of the phone I should be able to see my screen (it should turn on), but that doesn't happen every time. I tried with restarting the phone. After restarting it works fine, but the same thing happens again lately.
Phone came with android 2.3.3. To solve the problem, I tried factory reset after the upload to 2.3.5 (thought it is going to return system to 2.3.3) but software version stayed on 2.3.5
If anyone knows how this could be solved, please tell me.
Thanks!

Are you running a custom rom, if you are, then i suggest you set your min frequency at about 200mhz. If you are using stock, unrooted, i suggest you take it to the HTC service center to get it fixed or better still, root it and enjoy the limitless possibilities of android! :good:
Thanks

Thanks for the replay. It is stock ROM. As I said I recently started using android. I'm not familiar with all of that possibilities it has. I'll consider what to do. Anyway thanks a lot!
In addition to your above mentioned problem I also had problems with the unlock screen. Sometimes it doesn't unlock easily and I hav to pull the ring 4 or five times to unlock it
