Saw articles that Verizon is opening world gsm capabilities for the rezound, droid 4 and droid maxx.....why not the Gnex?
Because the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a GSM radio in it. You can't enable it if the radio isn't in there.
Vzw and sprint = CDMA
Everyone else (bar some parts of Asia) = GSM.
Well, the Rezound wasn't marketed as a World Phone, but with some tweaks you can use it overseas.

Hello I am using Nexus S at the moment, and now I'm looking for new phone!!
However, can't decide between Galaxy nexus and note,
any advice or suggest?
Thank you
If you have T-Mobile you're better off with the nexus as the note doesn't get T-Mobile 3G.. otherwise I would have a note

Oh... actually, I'm living in New Zealand, and use vodafone now -0-
The nexus is pentaband 3g which is more world compatible. Plus higher dpi

Sorry haha. Yes the nexus is pentaband so it is more likely to work as opposed to the note.

If i buy a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and unlock the bootloader.. Would it be able to work with a T-Mobile sim?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
i dont think it will sorry, but then again iam not to sure. i think sim unlocking and bootloader unlocking are two differant things. it dosent cost much to get a phone sim unlocked though and if you do some google searching you might be able to unlock it yourself.
i just read on google that you cant unlock verizon or sprint.
The verizon nexus only has cdma & LTE bands, so no, the only other possibilities are Sprint and other cdma carriers.

Boot loader != sim unlock
CDMA / LTE != GSM
Verizon phones not marketed as 'GLOBAL' will NOT work on GSM carriers. Unlocking a CDMA phone is hard and if done can only be used on CDMA networks (sprint or Verizon in US) and even then you need to provision the phone for the new network and CDMA network operators do not like to allow other phones on their network since you did not buy the phone from that carrier.
TL;DR:
Verizon only works on Verizon

You can get a GSM Galaxy Nexus, unlock and work with T-Mobile.
I have the Nexus and am on T-Mobile.

yes a global verizon phone will but it is sim locked.
First of all non of the galaxy nexus phones are locked. The T Mobile version works with the Att version and so on. The Verizon version will never work on the other networks because cdma is not compatible with GSM period

Verizon galaxy nexus only works on Verizon. It has a sim slot but it's designed strictly for LTE.
It will not work with tmobile or att

This is actually wrong, some of the phones being sold in Europe are actually sim-locked. There is a thread under the general section discussing someone trying to sim-unlock their phone.
Can I use a Verizon Samsung Nexus in Europe or in the Middle East?
No you cannot.

No. It is a CDMA phone. Most other networks in the world are GSM. The i515 (Verizon) model doesn't have world-roaming capabilities. Your only chance would be if you're in one of the few countries with a national CDMA carrier that Verizon has roaming agreements with, and then you'd pay some absurd roaming charges to use the phone.
Just pick up a GSM phone for when you travel.
Also... GSM FTW.

No but you can get a different phone that is GSM for when you travel. I got a samsung captivate on Craigslist just for that

I saw the rezound is apparently unlockable for use off the Verizon network. Is that doable with this phone too?

There are no other networks that use the radios for the CDMA Verizon Galaxy Nexus (at least to my knowledge) not even Sprint because Sprint doesn't use SIM on their GN apparently?

Radios aren't even compatible. That's like saying, you're going to use a Intel Ivy Bridge processor on a motherboard with a AM3+ socket.
The VZW Nexus doesn't at all have the radio hardware to work on a GSM network. You're stuck on Verizon.

You may want to do a bit more research before you declare something impossible. The Rezound uses a Snapdragon MSM8660 SoC. CDMA and GSM radios are integral to that little piece of silicon. The Rezound is indeed capable of operating on AT&T, T-Mobile, or any other GSM carrier worldwide.

But the Galaxy Nexus does not have the radios. At all. It literally is impossible.

Good for you but the morale of the story is that galaxy Nexus doesn't work for Gsm models. It is rare for any phone go be cdma and Gsm cross compatible. If it is then good for them.
Would anyone do it? Not really, there are better choices out there than getting a Rezound and putting it on another carrier such as the galaxy Nexus for $400

Hey guys, I currently have a Galaxy Note but I'm looking to get the GSM Nexus. Do any of you know if the LTE Sim cards work for GSM Nexus? I can't seem to find any information on this.

One X micro sim works in my GSM Gnex, so I imagine the Note sim would work as well.
I came from an HTC Vivid LTE phone. I simply swapped the LTE sim from the Vivid into my Nexus and all has been well for over a month (had an international Nexus, but returned it and got the US Nexus).

The only thing I miss is LTE, but that is minor compared to all the great things about the Nexus - let alone the longer battery life.
