Just flashed the BCM RC3.4U0 and now I'm roaming. Anyone know why this might be, if there's a workaround, or if I should just ignore it?
I have a CDMA Desire on nTelos.

Tutorial:
How To Remove Roaming Indicator
01. Download a text editor.
02. Download a file manager like root explorer.
03. Head over to http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30169771/eri.xml (from your phone).
04. Highlight text from eri.xml and copy to clipboard.
05. Open text editor and paste text from eri.xml into a new document.
06. Save as eri.xml
07. Open root explorer.
08. Mount as R/W
09. Find the eri.xml that you just created.
10. Select move from the menu.
11. Move eri.xml to phone/data/
12. Reboot to make changes take effect.
Thanks to zoodski for the fix. I just wrote the tutorial.

Exists there a CMDA-version of BCM?? If yes, did you make sure you flashed it?

Yeah, it's GSM/CDMA. It automatically detects which you have during install.
I saw someone else had the same problem and may have fixed it by pushing an ERI.XML file to phone/data/ but I don't know enough to know what to do there. I'll just PM him.
This forum is made for help. And PMing someone does not support this idea.
So please post what your problem with moving that file is and you'll get help.

My bad. The thing is, I don't even know whats causing the issue. I just know he may have fixed it by pushing that file. But I assume that the file is unique to different carriers. I have nTelos, and nothing with APN's and similar stuff plays well with my phones.
I'd have asked him when he first brought it up in the thread, but I don't have 10 posts yet.
If anyone else was having this issue, I edited the first post with the solution provided by ron427 and originally zoodski.
Okay, here's an dumb question. I've installed BCM ICS on a CDMA Desire with US Cellular. I'm having the "roaming" issue as well. Following the instructions in the OP and I've come to a place where I'm stuck. I can't find the phone/data folder. What am I missing? It's pretty hard to move the eri.xml file to a folder you can't find! Help is appreciated.

The 'phone' folder is just the broadest folder on your phone. Using Root Explorer, if you are in another folder, there will be a folder at the very top that is labled ".." with the text "parent folder" underneath. Press that until you just see a forward slash at the very top.
When you open a file explorer, it should open up to the "phone" folder. Just go to the data folder. Once you are in the phone/data folder, at the top it should just say "/data". Move the file to that folder.
Thanks! Figured it out.

Are there any flashable boot animations for the DHD?
and in particular, the droid x boot?
if there isn't could someone please tell me how to change mine to this? with links to the files? or a link to a flashable zip?
You don't need to flash them... just use Root Explorer and drop "bootanimation.zip" in \data\local
For the actual animations just search the Themes section in the Desire HD forum. You can also look in the Themes sections for original Desire as most of them should work too. I'm sure someone will have ported the Droid X one, if not try looking in the Themes sections of the Droid X forum... you get the idea

Extract the zip file for the boot sound as it's the .mp3 you need to use. Bootanim stays as .zip
Reply back know how you get on / if you need any help etc.
Oh, and be sure to press the "Mount R/W" when in the correct folder in Root Explorer. Wont let you change anything otherwise

wow I feel stupid. I was using the temp files from the top of the list in my sdcard XD thank you.
oh wait it didn't work xD I have bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 in data/ local and it doesn't work. i've rebooted twice since they've been there. what else am I doing wrong ?
Try the two files I have attached and see if they work. You will need to extract the zip for the start sound as it wouldn't let me attach the mp3. Also, you will have to rename the other zip from black_bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip. I have loads of them so need to keep the file names different.
Reboot and they should work
Still no luck. even with your files, in data/local with r/w it just won't work? is it something to do with me being on the stock rom, kernel and radio?
I don't know but this is really weird ? could it be a permissions thing? thank you so much for trying to help me though.
it couldn't be that i'm using a mac could it?
No probs man
I've never had a poke around inside a stock ROM for DHD but I expect the files still go in the same place, so it must be a permissions thing as I doubt it would be radio or kernal related.
Silly question I should have maybe asked earlier... you have a rooted phone right? If not none of this will work!
As for a being on a Mac, shouldn't make a difference as you can transfer all the stuff to /data/local/ on your phone... only need a computer to put the files on your SD card if you didn't download them with your phone.
haha yes my phone is definitely rooted, I'm pretty sure I have radio and engineering S-OFF, I had SHIP, now I have ENG, I would really like to know what the problem is though.
would it be possible to fix the permissions ? should I use rom manager to fix them ? or do it manually in root explorer?
If it is a permission problem, rom manager's fix permissions option did not solve the problem.
It would be so much easier just having a flashable zip xD
You could give it a go with ROM Manager yeah.
I must admit, I'm stumped with this! I bet it's something really easy that we're both overlooking!
rom manager didn't work.
it has to be something obvious. I would flash a new rom, but then I need to flash a new radio, because last time I ran leedroid, and android revolution HD, my microphone wouldn't work so I had to restore my backup.
having to do all that just for a boot animation and sound would be such a pain.
Well I'm going to sleep, most likely, and hopefully someone will have worked something out by the time i get back or wake up.

Yeah, that's definitely another option.

Or another option is that your current rom just does not read bootanimation from /data/local/. Try it with custom rom, or put it to /system/.. I do not remember which folder. But look for bootanimation.zip.

I found bootanimation, not .zip but i can't make the system file r/w only r/o
after much trial and error, i found it at last....
@P1xelVandal in case you had not installed any custom ROM then the original bootanimation.zip can be found in the following location:
/system/customize/resource
Rename the original one to bootanimation_bak.zip before replacing in case any error occurs.
And, of course, you have to mount the file system in R/W mode for the changes to take place.. worked fine for me... piece of cake now.
Bump...
I've also just read somewhere that you could try /system/customize/resource/
Let us know how you get on mate
I gave up and flashed a radio and Android Revolution HD. It works fine now. Thank you for helping

Open your /system/build.prop file in a text editor and see if the string 31672 exists. If so, change it and save. Make sure permissions are still correct.
Could be a shot in the dark.
Nope. String 31672 does not exist in the file. Other ideas? I assume this would say "Verizon Wireless" if it was stock.
Other location ideas?

Time I found something, art beat me to it.
Here is some more information on the eri.xml file
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/57078-how-edit-eri-xml.html
Also there is an app that will do it for you lol
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901865
The app seems to do nothing. And when I look in my eri.xml file I do not see the 31672 anywhere to replace. Other thoughts?
Running Virtuous Unity 2.3.9 on Incredible 2 with Verizon if that makes a difference.
Here is all that is in my eri.xml file
lPromptId...0...CallPromptId0...CallPromptId1...2...CallPromptId2...RoamingIndicator...IconIndex...IconMode...EriText...AlertId...EriInfo...64...T-CDMA 64...65...T-CDMA 65...66...T-CDMA Ext 66...67...T-CDMA Ext 67...68...T-CDMA Roam 68...69...T-CDMA Ext 69...70...T-CDMA Roam 70...71...T-CDMA Ext 71...72...T-CDMA Ext 72...73...T-CDMA Roam 73...74...T-CDMA Ext 74...75...T-CDMA Roam 75.......`.......
Here's a modded eri.xml, but it's only been confirmed on AOSP roms.
Please make a nandroid first-always a good idea, and you can delete it after if you really need to.
1)Download attached .zip file and extract the eri.xml file
2) Using your favorite xml editor (I use sublime text) find the text "Captain Pickles" and change it to your text of choice.
3) copy it to /data file on phone
4) reboot and profit
Thanks, but not doing a thing. In fact, I don't think that my "31672" is going to be found in this file. I pulled my wife's eri.xml (she is running rooted stock) and it is the same as mine. Yet, her "operator Name" shows as "unknown", where mine shows the "31672".
So, It must be from data in another file and location.

Good to know- since framework is different on sense roms, the mod must be incompatible.
this is the app i use to do it.

Sorry, but CCName app does nothing to change my operator name or anything on the lock screen with my VU2.3.9 incr2. I tried this again (as it was mentioned earlier), and no luck.
I can live with it just fine, if needed.
Here is only place I find "31672"
I did a superXT search of my backup, and find "31672" only in one spot: com.android.phone/shared_prefs/htc_cdma_settings.xml
I've attached a copy of the hex file image.
Is this what I should change to fix this???

Where is the location of the com.android.phone APK? I was not able to track it down on the phone (but it must be there). Can you provide the specific set of folders to get to this?

Just did a search. There is no 31672 or 3.1.6.7.2 anywhere in this decompiled file.
Moved to Q&Q, if you are asking a question-post in the correct forum.
not really sure which forum to post this in (sorry if this is the wrong one), but all of the new roms that have been created seem to lack the xt9. i had really started to like it. i downlaoded the system dump and was wondering, if i copied the T9DB folder (from the dump) over to the system folder of whatever rom im going to flash, would that fix the problem.
Melvin's ROM: Beast MOD II has it. I'm pretty sure this is more a general question though. Also pretty sure copying and pasting is a no go.

the xt9 option is in all of them under keyboard, but doesnt work. open up sms and try to type something.

You also need the lib, libXt9core.so. Melvin probably removed it. You should be able to drop that and the apk in their right places and it should work.

its very simple. first i downloaded this system dump. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300682 . then opened it up and dragged the folder T9DB over to my desktop. then plugged my phone in the computer and connect to usb storage. dragged the file over to my external sd card and unplugged my phone. then open up root explorer (or some file explorer that allows root access) and copied the file and navigated your main folder (just titled /) scrolled down to find system and pasted the folder in there. restart and it works
the lib is also required for it to work but that wasnt removed witht he rom im using. if you want to check to see if its still there go to the lib folder located within your system folder and scroll all the way to the bottom and their should be a file called libxt9core.so
i tried to go into as much detail as possible to make it as simple as possible for you :]
This is one of the few features of the SGH-T989 which I truly despise. I LOVED the auto-correct on the Nexus S, but XT9 frustrates me terribly because a) it assumes English and I do not always type in English and b) it will drop entire words into my sentences if I hit space or something, ending in some REALLY weird messages!! I turned it off, because it was taking me a lot longer trying to go back and edit my messages ex-post-facto than just make a spelling error here or there.
do you know where i can get the lib file at? im using bombaridier and it doesnt have it in the lib file.

Okay i'm on CM10 and I want to change the "Virgin Mobile" to my Carrier's name "Alltel" how would I go about doing this the correct way? I've searched numerous forums and have not ran across a solution that works for me.
Google about editing eri.xml I'm pretty sure that's what changes your carrier name. If you need any further help let me know.
Its inside your /system/framework/framework-res.apk in the /res/XML folder. You can use 7zip on your PC to open the apk and extract the file for modification.

I've tried a variation of that, I extracted the build.prop from the ROM I am wanting to install, 7zipped the framework apk file, extracted the eri.xml but when I open it in a HEX editor, the information is encrypted and I can't see much to edit, I tried locating the "Virgin Mobile" lines but had no luck even locating what I needed ot edit, as far as overwriting the old eri.xml placing it in the framework file, and replacing the old framework file with the altered one I can do, I am just having issues locating the information in a HEX editor, or even wordpad.
i uploaded an eri.xml that i edited to say Alltel. My phone says alltel now, use hxd (or your hex editor, i recommend hxd personally) to follow the directions on the picture attached. Highlight the words Virgin Mobile, and start typing Alltel, and you will probably have to add spaces behind it (or in 3 spaces in front of it and 3 (? or 4) spaces behind it to center it better than i did) so it doesnt change the size of the file. Save it, put it back into your framework-res.apk, and push it back to /system/framework
The eri.zip i attached is an already done copy, the instructions are just for your future reference.
Enjoy!
(make sure you have a good backup of your framework-res.apk to fall back on before you push the new one to its spot)
Awesome, took your advice, but so I can learn by doing, i just manually took apart the ROM and edited the files needed and just put them bacl, reflashed ROM, and boom, it says what I wanted, thank's alot man, greatly appreciated.
I have flashed the Whompasaurus rom onto my galaxy note 2 (Sprint) and I cannot change my s-pen sounds. I have tried to use ES explorer and go into /system/media/ui and tried to rename the Pen_att_noti2.ogg to Pen_att_noti2.ogg.bak but every attempt has failed. I checked the properties of the file and it says that the file is readable and writable. I have even tried to copy the sound (that I want) into the file and overwrite it but that does not work as well. Is the whompasaurus rom interfering with this? Am I doing something wrong? Are there special settings I must have? Any help is greatly appreciated.
P.s.: I would have posted this in the whomp forum, but it seems that I do not have enough posts, "requirements" to post into the developers thread.
I am hoping someone would shed some light onto my situation
Please and thanks!
-Timmy
check to make sure you root permissions enabled in ES Folder. I have to enable it every time. Just hit the menu button, Root Explorer, Mount R/W, and change the appropriate properties. It took a few a time to figure out why names and properties we're changing. The fail message is really brief and easy to miss.
