Hey guys,
I had posted about this a day back, I guess it got deleted because it was in the wrong section.
Okay, so to the question. I was looking for a way to swap internal and external SD because there is very less space on our Wonder.
I searched through the forums and found a thread which gave a modded vold.fstab.
I copied it in /system/etc and It screwed up my ROM, I guess it is due to CM9 running and not Stock because of /emmc
Is there a workaround for swapping on CM9 ?
Thanks

the vold.fstab u got is based on GB ROM not CM9. I've found this for SGII
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593615
not sure whether it works on SGW.
Go into the settings click on storage and press there the menu button and go into storage configuration and enable the option and reboot then its swapped
Sorry for my bad english
Read the FAQ in the CM9 discussion thread!!!

Hi All,
What is the best way to install marketplace applications to your SD card rather then the internal phone memory.
I've looked around and found that you can adjust the NAND to install a .IMG file on the SD card and use it as the main data store, but id prefer not to do it this way (Windows Mobile gives you a choice to install to internal memory or external card).
Sorry if posting in wrong place.
Thanks all

I asked how to INSTALL ANDROID, this is not installing Android, this is installing applications to the sd card, internal memory is limited and will run out fast.
No one has tried to do this then?
Easiest way is to just re-install, with data.img in root and select ext2 via img.
This question has been answered a few times in different guides in this forum.
Here's a good one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680518
under "Installing Applications Onto SD Card using Ext2"
Hi thanks for replies, yes I know there are guide already, but they are either partitioning the card or using a *.img file.
It seems crazy that (IMO sucky) windows mobile can do this but Android cant.
Is there some reason why Android is unable to do this?
Is it just a development thing, and in time they might change this?
Are other users of "proper" android phones, (e.g tmobile g1) able to just install to memory card or do they hit the same problem?
Thanks,
They have the same problem, all Android versions have the same problem....UNTIL NOW!
Froyo now has the option to move installed apps to the sd back and forth!! The details are at 1:35 of the developer video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAZYSVr2Bhc
Very sweet...listening to the community So just wait and sit tight for Froyo on our Kaisers!!
it would still be nice to be find out how they did it and mimic it on other builds
Thanks for replies all, guess ill have to wait for now, I heard someone say there is a program I think called apps2sd but havnt tried it, and I havnt found it yet (I havnt looked that hardly tbh, been too busy and only looked on marketplace).
Thanks again
Hi,
as everybody have noticed Samsung has integrated into their firmwares 3 storage locations:
System storage (1GB)
USB storage (or internal SD card) (1.7GB)
SD card (or external SD card) (up to 32GB)
A way how to swap USB storage and SD card is already given.
Like most of you gamers have already noticed, the memory of the internal SD card is often too small to download big games (like NFL 2012, Real Football 2012, etc.)
I know there are ways how to swap or use apps to swap temporarily the directions.
But I want a permanent solution with full capability of storage usage.
So here is what I would like to do:
Change the storage to:
System storage (2,7GB)
SD card (up to 32GB)
So basically extend the system storage and delete the USB storage. Than swap the internal SD and external SD card.
Advantages:
Media Server will only have to search one direction(physical SD card)
Only 2 main directions
SD card direction IS a physical SD card.
SD card, if class 10, is quicker than the internal storage(for apps).
Hope someone can help.

Sounds like a good plan.....I never can understand the Samsung memory/storage layout..... even for app devs deciding on /sdcard as default data store.....Samsung just breaks defaults.
Has your plan been tried on any other Samsung model.....or other Androids with the same Internal/External layout??

I have been searching for quite some time. I have seen someone writing about a data.ex4 file which was 4GB big. But not sure what it was used for.
I'll dig a bit deeper into that :-D

Yes thats the plan :-D. But I have no clue about the internal restrictions of Android and the Samsung firmware.
I think if the extension of the system storage would work, than all we have to do is swap internal and external sd card. And keep the small internal(former internal sd card) partition unmounted.
BTW: My system storage has almost full. 850MB/1.07GB

I hve no idea too bro...can't help..
Many new devices around here use this three layer storage...
But,what I thought ,when we succes do this..there's no need to swap I think..

Didn't come veeery far, but atleast found a thread with a similiar concern:

This is for the Galaxy Mini.
I asked the developer or thread starter, whether he can help us out.
Let's wait and see, hopefully he comes around.
EDIT: Doc_cheilvenerdi.org has replied, and is working on a solution. Hope it is going to work .

Only Problem is, if the game is bigger than the internal sd space, you won't be able to download to sdcard. Because the procedure is like this:
Download game to internal SD -> move downloaded files to external SD
So you SD card has to be always free, unless you want to use the swap temporarily.

I am in contact with Doc_cheilvenerdi.org, so I just want to give you a small update of the more or less current status. It might inspire some other devs.

I'm here!
From a full firmware I just figured out that we don't need Kernel source because the ext4 kernel modules are already inside the Stock kernels (really good news)...
Now I'm dealing with the AOSP mkbootimg tool, used to repack the boot image after tweaking it...
It seems that they use a slightly modified one (? it should not occurr)...
I find two main differences... the first one is Solved... I can patch the mkbootimg code myself to use it...
The second one is related to 2 hex pages (4096 * 2 byte) of code at the end of the boot image that I cannot handle...
...anyway I don't know how to handle it...
Actually I cannot test modded images myself (I don't own a I8150) and could be dangerous to ask somebody else to do it for me...
Two questions to you:
1) Your Galaxy does have a fixed partition table, right? just to exclude that those codes are sizes and addresses of system parts... (this could be easy for us)
2) can you post me the output of the command (from adb shell or terminal emulator)
# busybox ls -l /dev/block/
while you have the sdcard slotted in?
After that I can prepare a boot image smaller (and NOT tweaked yet) just to not overwrite the code "I don't know what it is"...
but it's up to you to test for it...
...maybe it could not work...
...I will couple the repacked boot image with the original one, anyway, just to revert easy to it in case of troubleshootings...
but I repeat... it's up to you...

Hey guys any news on this? I think another good reason for this is that it will hopefully increase the amount of ram available, at this minute I have 87 mb free And hardly any apps open. So any news on this as it would be really helpful?

As far as I understood this solution would let you better use your memory card and system/app space, but I don't think it would increase at all the amount of RAM available, unfortunately...
Anyway, yeah, keep us posted thanks!

Unfortunately not. Not sure what the reason was, but there was a misunderstanding and after that there was no further reaction from the developer. I guess it was not possible.

hey guys i recently flashed 4.2.1 AOSP CM10.1 rom and how do i make my external sdcard work and how do i make my internal sdcard files to show up? thanks in advance!
Do a full wipe and flash again. Personally I've never cared about cm10.1 its just way too buggy for my taste. There are far better 4.2.1 roms out there like tasks aokp which is buttery smooth with zero issues

Show up where? And definitely make sure you're on a latest recovery for 4.2 support. I prefer TWRP.

this does not directly answer your question but I had to reformat my external card when I moved to 4.2.1. So you may need to make a copy of the contents of your ext sd card and then reformat (I did it from within 4.2.1 recovery and now I can read and save to either card.
If you search "xda, android 4.2.1, i747, and external sd card" I am sure your answer/instructions will be there.

Go into the file manager -> hit the menu button and go to settings -> click general -> click access mode -> change from "safe mode" to "root access mode". Should be able to find external SD card in the Storage folder. DO NOT delete anything outside of the storage folder!
Hope that works for ya!
Help!
I was running FreeGS3, then flashed LiquidSmooth ... now flashed back to FreeGS3 ... and I have this weird '/storage/sdcard0/0/' folder which is my old internal storage folder? Not sure ... sdcard0/ has the directory structure of internal, but it's empty.
It's as if my old internal was 'backed up' to sdcard0/0/, and now there's a new internal storage at sdcard0 ....
WTF??
The same thing happened to me, you just have to move all the files and folders back to the /sdcard0 folder, you can do it with any file explorer or you can do it in your computer. There's nothing to worry about

[Guide][How To] Fix Sdcard / Find backups after cm10.1 Flash!
Same thing happened to me like deja vu after i decided to sample BlackBean 7. Seems to be a CM10/AOKP thing. Went back to my stock rooted TWiz rom anyways. If it isn't broken, don't fix.
I just used Estrongs File explorer to move everything back to where they were and deleted the /0 folder.
Sorry if this is a total noob question but how do I free the 9 gigs that became sdcard/ 0? Im now running free gs3 which im liking a lot more. The major problem I have is my internal sd is now totally full on my 16gig card. The way I figure is if I'm not gonna use cm10 cant I just delete it from the card and get the space back? I have an external card but its only 8gig and was using that for storage of music and etc. Im on a sprint gs3 flashed to metro and am wondering if I reformat the card can I flash gs3 back on or do I need to flash a stock TW? Im not really too concerned about the other files on the internal sd as I figure might as start fresh

If you aren't concerned with the files you can just wipe the internal SD card. However, there is a guide posted a few pages up on how to fix the 0 folder. Wiping the internal SD card will not affect your ROM so you will not need to flash anything.

This is the cause of the multiple users feature in 4.2. When a new twrp gets implemented that can handle 4.2 properly, this won't happen. Oh well he didn't Google search! It happens, especially with this kinda thing. Try googleing but we'll always be glad to help.

Hello everyone,
I spent days looking at this thread doing research on how to root + backup + add custom roms and did it all myself using all the brilliant instructions on the site, so thank you very much, especial to arco 68 who i believe is the guru around here.
However, I recently installed cyanogenmod10 rc1, and it installed and runs perfectly but for some reason I can't access my external sd card when I got into file manager, and also can't move the new apps i download into the external sd. This will lead to my internal memory filling up very fast.
Can someone please explain step by step, and in as basic english as possible how to remedy this?I would greatly appreciate it!:crying:
