All kernels work with stock rom as long as it is 4.0.3/4.0.4
Try them out yourself and see.

Well I'm just out for opinions and which ones are best the try the best and so on.

I use Franco kernel, give it a go and see what you think.

I've got a 3800 battery and it works pretty well. Phone doesn't look as good but battery life is much better

Well I don't want to get a 3800 battery I want to stay with the stock battery. And so a Franco kernel is one choice anyone use that and get good battery or if not what do you use to get great battery.

Anyone able to help out too?

Its not even a problem, that's why no one is replying.
These threads always appear.
Try them out for yourself its not difficult, that's what everyone else has to do.

Batteries and Kernels are like women, some men like some not others, sometimes they outright hate each other.
You also have to consider your phone. The fab process for our SOC is still pretty new, I see a lot of variances between the same device (IE MY CPU runs happily at 1800 Mhz (OC Kernel), other people cannot get past 1200 Mhz and some can get 2000 Mhz,)
What this all means is that what is going to work well on YOUR phone might not work on mine.
I do however use Franco's Kernel, best performance/battery I have found.

Personally for me, Trinity's TUV alpha1 n Ogdobber's 3.1.x kernels got me the best battery life...

Thanks for the information guys.

[Q][kernal] What's a good one?

I have stock rooted, I love the phone and didn't want to flash a ROM so soon but I was wondering, what's a good kernal thats better than stock, that increases battery while not affecting the speed negatively, I currently get about 10-12hrs on my battery as is
Search doesn't work that well for me on mobile, so sorry if previously asked although I did scan the threads but just wanted to see how you guys are doing with your current kernals
Swyped from my Sgs2 T989
Try tdj's dark side kernel. Very smooth and great battery life. Plus you can overclock and under volt.

Thank you for the info but when you say great battery life do you mean better than stock?

i think there's only about 4-5 options out there... but each phone's hardware is different so each kernel will be different.
For example, my phone works really well with faux and darkside, but i get quite a bit of drain from eugene's kernel (yes I do configure my clock speed and voltages) people say synergy has great battery life and is smooth, however, my phone says different. it lagged more than the 3 mentioned and battery life was equivalent. There is also the bullet kernel... i haven't played with that... not sure if im missing any other kernels... but yeah i suggest giving the first three a try first as they are currently being supported.
reminder, you should let your phone go through at least 2 charges before comparing kernel's battery life etc... and with our phone.. thats 2 days lol
Pretty much any of the kernels on the first page will give you better than stock battery life. Faux, synergy and the dark side kernel are the three most popular kernels amongst Devs so that must mean something.

To be honest, i only ran stock for a few hours. Ive been running a custom rom since day 1. But I believe it would be better then stock because TDJ has undervolted the kernel slightly.
I'm using the darkside right now and so far so good

I've tried most of the popular kernels and the best battery life I've observed has been with Synergy... hands down gives me the best standby battery life.
But what I've noticed that gives me even better battery life is just turning off mobile data when I don't need it (in class, during meetings)... which also turns off the background syncing.
But in the end, it's all up to you how crazy you want to get with your battery management.

Best ROM + Kernel combo for battery life? (GSM)

Sorry if there is another thread for this already, I didn't see any similar threads only for the Verizon LTE version of it so I thought I'd make this. I'm heading to Germany in 2 weeks and I bought an extended battery, but I just don't like the feel of the phone with the extended battery and a case on top of that. I think its too big personally. I was just wondering what ROM + kernel combos are the absolute best for battery life (preferably JB roms) thanks guys!

yes there is a 100 threads about this that all start off "i dont know if theres another thread about this"
stock...
Stock for battery, stability and smoothness hand down
Custom ROM comes in to the choice ONLY when you want customization

OP, opinions will vary from user to user, as will roms with phone from phone. Please try them out as these threads usually do not end up well. Best of luck and have a safe trip!!

Which Kernel - New to G-Nex

Hello all,
I'm new to the Galaxy Nexus and just got it through Verizon.
I see in the Development section there is a good selection of Kernels, but I have no clue which one to get. I've read that a different kernel can help the battery life, which all of them claim to optimize. Battery life is pretty important, but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance as I am seeing the occasional lag spike when entering and exiting apps.
I am currently running CM10 if it makes a difference.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
the one that works for you.

well i guess you are on 4.1 .. i heard that stock kernel in 4.2 is efficient. i only tried franco's kernel (milestone 6) .. but this was not good experience for me, as when i flashed the kernel and tried to overclock. my phone was hot like fire and it rebooted.. and so i was afraid too much to try another .. .. i suggest you stick with a stock kernel ...

Thank you for the response. I'm not too interested in overclocking; I've always thought that was a great way to bring your phone to an early death.
More than anything, I would just like to improve battery life.
Ever since I've tried Trinity I haven't used anything else. Very fast and the battery does last longer. I'm using TNP1344-384-JB-4.1.2-STABLE67
I've tried stock, Franco, air, James Bond, and trinity and I've found that lean kernel is the one I like best. The they all have their ups and downs.

What is it about Lean that you like the best?
Can you give me a run down of some ups and downs? Coming from a Droid X, then Rezound, kernels are a bit new to me.

best battery saving rom?

Hello, I'm from Viet Nam
I'm using stock rom
I just had the Galaxy s3 t mobile, but it's so out of battery quickly and very hot, I'm worried that my phone will Perishable because it is too hot.
Length of battery use it so bad, I have to charge it 4 times in one day, it was awful.
please show me the best battery saving rom . Thx.
It depends. You really need to try them out for yourself. Same for kernels, some will be excellent and others might not. Remember that all phones are different. However, you *should* get better battery out of ROMs based on official firmwares (aka Touchwiz).

As no one uses your phone like you do, only you can decide. Make a backup in recovery and flash a couple to decide.
This is why these threads are closed. They can not offer you a real solution as your issue may be caused by something not ROM related.

[Q] Can someone reccomend me a lightweight kitkat rom?

Hey guys, I have an old Galaxy Nexus which is currently unrooted and on stock AOSP Jelly Bean. I'm from Europe so not sure about this Sprint/Verizon mumbo jumbo. It's started to get pretty slow and battery life is quite appalling. I've visited the development forum but it's all quite overwhelming - with loads of ROMs and variants of those ROMs, plus a bunch of kernels.
I dont really care for tiny customisation or the extra features of e.g. CM, just about performance and battery. Perhaps the only thing I'd like is Screen Mirroring (which, as far as i can tell, isn't enabled on the latest Galaxy Nexus SlimKat rom). Can anyone reccomend me a good ROM/Kernel that will extend the life of this once great phone?
Cheers
You are using a maguro if you are wondering I'm sorry but the only answer is to try for yourself.. Just download a ROM and see if you like it. If you dont then move on to the next. Same with kernels. If you want maximum performance or battery tweak some stuff with trisckster. Nephilimps settings are a good starting point.

Fair enough, i might give that a crack. In all honesty, I'm sure there are multiple solutions to my request, I'm just wondering what other people had grown to be happy with, so I'm not stabbing wildly in the dark.
I'm gonna say fancy kernel and Slimkat is a great place to start. I use fancy with max frequency at 1036MHz for good battery and performance. Slimkat is small, not too many features, and it has most bugs ironed out, so it's stable. If you really want good battery, then I would use a 4.3.1 rom. Take your pick there, I recommend Vanir.
