[Q][kernal] What's a good one? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have stock rooted, I love the phone and didn't want to flash a ROM so soon but I was wondering, what's a good kernal thats better than stock, that increases battery while not affecting the speed negatively, I currently get about 10-12hrs on my battery as is
Search doesn't work that well for me on mobile, so sorry if previously asked although I did scan the threads but just wanted to see how you guys are doing with your current kernals
Swyped from my Sgs2 T989

Try tdj's dark side kernel. Very smooth and great battery life. Plus you can overclock and under volt.

Thank you for the info but when you say great battery life do you mean better than stock?

i think there's only about 4-5 options out there... but each phone's hardware is different so each kernel will be different.
For example, my phone works really well with faux and darkside, but i get quite a bit of drain from eugene's kernel (yes I do configure my clock speed and voltages) people say synergy has great battery life and is smooth, however, my phone says different. it lagged more than the 3 mentioned and battery life was equivalent. There is also the bullet kernel... i haven't played with that... not sure if im missing any other kernels... but yeah i suggest giving the first three a try first as they are currently being supported.
reminder, you should let your phone go through at least 2 charges before comparing kernel's battery life etc... and with our phone.. thats 2 days lol

Pretty much any of the kernels on the first page will give you better than stock battery life. Faux, synergy and the dark side kernel are the three most popular kernels amongst Devs so that must mean something.

yes it is better than stock, most of us actually UNDERclock because these devs are amazing lol

To be honest, i only ran stock for a few hours. Ive been running a custom rom since day 1. But I believe it would be better then stock because TDJ has undervolted the kernel slightly.

I'm using the darkside right now and so far so good
Swyped from my Sgs2 T989

I've tried most of the popular kernels and the best battery life I've observed has been with Synergy... hands down gives me the best standby battery life.
But what I've noticed that gives me even better battery life is just turning off mobile data when I don't need it (in class, during meetings)... which also turns off the background syncing.
But in the end, it's all up to you how crazy you want to get with your battery management.

[Q] Opinions: best sense rom/kernels for battery?

hey guys im sure you get these a lot.
anyway, Ive been running CM6 for awhile now but found out my hometown has 4G coverage now and where i go to school will get 4G in about a month, so I have to make the switch to sense for obvious reasons. Im not huge on performance because frankly i'm not looking to blow minds with benchmarks on quadrant, the phone is fast as **** no matter what so im looking for the best battery life. a must for me is that they keep the theme relatively stock as well, some people arent graphically inclined no offense...
also looking for a good stable kernel with good battery life.
currently running burnt droid with baked kernel #6. heard fresh was good on battery but i think his site, geekfor.me, is down, can someone confirm this?
thanks a lot for your opinions
I don't have 4G here, so I can't say for sure how much 4G affects the battery on this rom, however I've been using Ava-FroyoV10. I do know that the 4G works. I have used it once while I was traveling through a few towns that did have it.
Besides 4G, I do use my phone pretty averagely. In my opinion anyway. I'm usually constantly texting, checking up on eBay using their app, having it plugged into the radio in my car for music, or reading up on engadget. Using Wifi or 3G were applicable. My phone lasts from, about... 8:30AM to around 9 or 10PM. I get a good day's use out of it with Ava-FroyoV10.
I don't use any kernel. I did used to have Netarchy's, however the Ava's stock kernel feels better with the phone. You do not get to adjust your CPU Voltage with the stock kernel.
Your best bet is to surf the Roms and Kernels. Find which one you like best, and stick with it.
Myns warm works pretty well for me with the stock kernel.
plus its a damn good looking rom

CM7 Battery Life?

I just root my phone last night and my phone is running at 33° and my battery is geting handed a new one.
Does anyone know if flashing a new.kernel or any tips to conserve my battery?
Any help would be awesome.
Well a new kernel COULD help your battery life, but you'd have to check the specs of the kernel, as some are for performance, others battery life, and ect. But be sure to see if its compatible, and if you find no data on it always make a backup before testing it!
Edit: In addition to a new kernel, turning off your mobile data [3G] when you're not using is always a big battery saver.
From my personal experience, flashing a different kernel like crack. Lol! but most do indeed improve battery life. I have 2-3 kernels in mind that you could use, how ever i use my wifi tether. So i had to go with a kernel that gives my battery life and doesn't affect my wifi, which the other kernels did effect my wifi.
So if you use your wifi tether, and still want to save on some battery life. Try this kernel.
[Netarchy-toastmod-4.3.2-cfs-sbc-nohavs-suv-universal-singed]
If you don't use wifi tether, then go with these.
[sbc-bcnice-stable-v7]
[sbc-bcnice-stable-v8]
[Reminder Note]
It's really up to you if you want to use these, I'm not telling you to do it. Just offering some ideas to help you brain storm on things.. And yes I have flashed the bottom two kernels on cm7 rom, but my cm7 3g was pretty weak, and i do enjoy 4g at work, so i jumped to a different rom.
Got the links, but haven't posted enough to add links in my post yet.

Just saying, I would recommend staying with the CM7 kernel till a stable release since it's still a beta you never know what will happen!
Ummm....yeah. I flashed kernals to cm7 and lost my camera. Can't get it back either. Been trying everything.

Oh and I do have all of the little things down. I have taskpanel, oc widget at 245-576, disabling data, all of it. It just runs really hot and my phones almost dead lol. So hopefully a kernel fixes it.
CM7 is great for battery overall, and Savaged-Zen kernel makes it even better.
I'm averaging double the battery life from stock Sense.
See my sig for links.

Best rom with battery life

Hey everyone I just rooted my girlfriends phone and I was wondering. What is the best rom to have with great battery life? I tried a team nocturnal rom and cyanogenmod but they're not that good. And with cyanogenmod, I hear the phone vibrate during calls. It's a bit annoying.
Anyone have any suggestions?

This is best suited for the Questions and Answers section. This is Development and I can see how you thought this was the right place but it is not. This is for roms, mod, and developmental threads. Please post in the right section next time.
Now to your question please keep in mind that what works for me might not work for you as every evo is different. The best way to know is for you to try different rom and kernel combinations till you find what you are looking for.
Good luck
miui with tiamat or save zen. I never use 4g so I don't care that it's missing. I like sense a lot but miui looks/feels just as good if not better. it's a seriously great ROM! Fast, stable, easily customizable and themeable. And battery life is the best i've had since running myn 2.2. Try it out.

of course MIUI gets the best battery life.
nothing on it works, so your phone just sits there as a paper weight, and that hardly takes any battery to do.
depends on usage...
I sit most of the day without touching my phone. with synergy rls1 Id go 2-2 and a half days between charges if I was home and almost never touched my phone, but Id get 3-4 hours(if lucky) if I had to use it.
With CyanogenMod 7.1 Im seeing 13hours of life if I dont touch it, but Im getting more like 7 of use
if youd like more help PM me

Thanks. I'll be checking this out in a little while.
Sorry I posted in the wrong section.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Finally someone with a similar experiance to mines. Im also using synergy and if im not using it the battery life is excellent. I have installed juice defender and also freedom 0.9 agreesive kernel. I use battery monitor widget to see what kind of drain im actually having. I check the history and using all of the above and if phone is just sitting on the table my avearge reading is 28mah.
If i start using apps and doing stuff on my phone though im lucky if i get 4 hours of use on it also i dont use 4g at all ever so thats not a factor. I just wish i knew why the drain is so high when using it. Ive also done hte battery recalibration so thats not the problem.
Decks can be pretty good and/or runs overclocked pretty well and i still push about 20 hours out of it.

I've never overclocked a phone though. Don't know how comfortable I'd feel about doing it, especially not knowing how to get the phone back to stock.

I have tried almost every rom for the evo and I look for stability, internal memory, battery life, and speed. For a gingerbread rom, I keep coming back to KingsROM Alliance SENSE 2.1+ 3.0 HybriD 3D " The BREED " with ChopSuey v9.1 kernel for good battery life. That is my daily rom. For Froyo rom, I use Koni ELITE Series III with Netarchy 4.3.2-havs-more-universal and I get amazing battery life.

[Q] Absolute Best Battery Life (ROM & Kernal + mods)

I'll be joining in a protest soon. Since having access to charge my Evo as often I usually do, I need to change ROM's I think.
I currently run MIUI 1.9.16 with Tiamat 4.0.6 SBC, no mods.
Can anyone suggest ROM's and Kernals that will grant me the best battery life as well as what mods and scripts I should run?
AOSP or Sense, doesn't matter with me.
Thank you for any advice that is given.
^_^
The best battery life I have gotten was from MikFroYo 4.4 with Netarchy-Toastmod-4.3.4
Edit: The easiest way to extend battery life, is to turn off all radios not in use (GPS/4G/Mobile Networks/Bluetooth), and turn your brightness down as far as you can.
in my opinion it seems that froyo (2.2) roms get better battery life, also running SBC is always better.. and the things said above obviously

I'm currently using Swagged Out rom, With Lithids Freedom Aggressive kernel which is undervolted by -175, and V6 SuperCharger script! Its an amazingly smooth stock rom. Kernel wise its the best battery life I've ever gotten on my EVO. And as to V6 SuperCharger I've used it on every Rom I've flashed its awesome. Their are links to eveything in my signature.
I'm a flash-a-holic so i wouldn't really know wat the best combo is but i just flashed the new snowy Rom so going to give it a couple days with the aggressive freedom 9 kernel (128/768 interactivex) and see how it goes...

Which Kernel - New to G-Nex

Hello all,
I'm new to the Galaxy Nexus and just got it through Verizon.
I see in the Development section there is a good selection of Kernels, but I have no clue which one to get. I've read that a different kernel can help the battery life, which all of them claim to optimize. Battery life is pretty important, but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance as I am seeing the occasional lag spike when entering and exiting apps.
I am currently running CM10 if it makes a difference.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
the one that works for you.

well i guess you are on 4.1 .. i heard that stock kernel in 4.2 is efficient. i only tried franco's kernel (milestone 6) .. but this was not good experience for me, as when i flashed the kernel and tried to overclock. my phone was hot like fire and it rebooted.. and so i was afraid too much to try another .. .. i suggest you stick with a stock kernel ...

Thank you for the response. I'm not too interested in overclocking; I've always thought that was a great way to bring your phone to an early death.
More than anything, I would just like to improve battery life.
Ever since I've tried Trinity I haven't used anything else. Very fast and the battery does last longer. I'm using TNP1344-384-JB-4.1.2-STABLE67
I've tried stock, Franco, air, James Bond, and trinity and I've found that lean kernel is the one I like best. The they all have their ups and downs.
