It's running extremely slow for me today too (USA), I would think there's a database backup or update or something like that, the admin here are really good about fixing such issues.
Just hang tight :good:

I bet you anything this is because of server user overloads and/or capacity issues. I've had the same problems several times, come to think of it.

First point, this thread is nearly a year old. It's generally better not to go "thread digging" if the thread is this old.
Secondly, the XDA site's been as fast as ever for me. Your slowness issue might be ads, but it could also be a plethora of other causes. Here are two…
Your Internet might be unstable or having issues;
Your devices might have bugs or too much memory;
… so all in all, don't expect that just because the site is slow means that the site itself is having issues.

It is extremely slow for me since Android 5.0 was released, especially on evenings and this weekend. With or without adblock, doesn't make a difference. I am getting several gateway timeouts and sites take forever to load.

Hmm. You'd be seriously wrong here. I'm an RC. I don't get ads because of my status and the site has been slow for me as well. PC, Browser on device, as well as TapaTalk.
This is not the correct way to get the RC status you're striving for...

no biggie bro it all good. this just came out of the blue and i googled the xda slow down so i figured maybe they watch this thread. they dont have a report issue page separate from when the website goes down.

Yup, same slow loading times here too. I'm on a 30mbps connection on my computer, and it takes around 10 seconds to load a single page. It's the same thing on my phone, which is on LTE. It's understandable if it's a capacity issue, with all the Lollipop activity going on now, but it's making things really hard to pull off now, like effective communication with other devs during development.

502 Bad Gateway

During the last several days on occations, when I try to enter this site, I get the following error message:
502 Bad Gateway
nginx/0.7.63
It happens on occations for a period of time, every few hours,
and then everything gets back to normal.
Anyone else experience this ?
We are working on that.
Ok thanks

Mostly, it happens on clicking a link.
The issue is compounded by SPAM Auto-Bots doing flood posts to the forum ... effectively placing unwanted load on the gateway(s) - similar to a DoS attack.

Would it not be useful to put some kinda Captcha in place for posting on the forums? maybe a system where you have to enter one every few posts, that would ensure the post are automated
Most spam subjects are known from prior floods...these should be continuely filtered before they can create a thread!
Chaps,
You have my sympathy. Do hope you can find a solution to this soon as the user experience is pretty bad at the moment.
Speed of access to forums on XDA has been dreadfully slow over the last month, usually ending in the dreaded error 502 message which effectively means game over until the network traffic reduces.
I assume you have "blockers" e.g. not allowing multiple searches within n seconds of a previous request, and other denial of service prevention techniques in place?
All I can say is that, at the moment, using XDA is very frustrating to use, that is if one is lucky to get onto the site in the first place. Hope you get it sorted soon.
Good luck.
Thanks
WB
Yeah, it seems that there has been a downtime over the last hour (beginning from about GMT 03:15 PM) as well.
The site loading time has been very slow as well... but, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I'm just noticing .
Dunno what yall are using to combat the spambots but I have been using fail2ban and having it scan the user agent strings and ban them with a firewall level ban. Works pretty well as after the initial contact they get blocked and cause less load.
I am guess it is google. They are pretty evil, keep fighting the good fight XDA

Hmmm sounds like XDA's new site is 502.Bad.gateway.com
I have never run a site with more than 100 active users at the same time, let alone 6000+ users at once. The admins here have my respect for keeping this site running as well as they have. My guess is lots of people picked up new phones during this holiday & Black Friday week. Is the site seeing a surge in new visitors?
From the front page:
Currently Active Users: 6323 (2781 members and 3542 guests)
finally i got in!!!!!!
after 5hrs down!!
wow... this sucks! This 502 gate way error happens to me very often... i hope they're working on this issue asap!

Wow, that was some heavy down time...so much for new servers
And like mike said, the stars have been ripped off...what next

T-Mo US 6.5 ROM and time

Has anyone else observed with this ROM that the clock seems to be delayed or wrong after charging or a long sleep?
I'm using SPB Mobile and I have "automatically change time zone and clock" enabled under phone options.

I've checked Tmo website and US HTC website too and there is not official new ROM release for US Tmo TP2, where did you get 6.5 ROM for your TP2?
Is it working with US Tmo 3G network?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

It's okay. It's a bit slower but not that much. It really depends on what you're doing on it.
I'm one of the ones thinking about going back to 6.1 from the 6.5
It doesn't seem to play nice with some programs I use, and it seems slower. I do like the home page looks a bit more than 6.1, but that isn't enough to keep me using the rom if it keeps crapping up.
There are too many issues I am finding, including the clock issue and lag from larger resources used.
Thanks

Yeah, the home screen is nicer and I like that plugin that detects where you are for the current weather. I've only had one run-in with a program and makes it difficult to run and that's iGO8's TTS. Because 6.5 is a memory hog, I can't seem to get TTS working unless I close manila.exe, restart, and run CleanRAM. Luckily I find the TTS distracting enough that I don't really need it all the time. I've had LOTS of errors installing various programs but everything seems to be working. I had to turn off the error notification in order to just be happy with operations.
I've also noticed that the messaging app keeps popping up ever so often. Anyone else notice this?
I am also having the time sync problem with my tp2.
I am using the official tmo 6.5 os and I am getting tired of this issue.
The reason I got rid of my watch was because I thought I had a dependable clock on my phone.

Yup same issues. BUT after doing alot of tweaks and changing alot of registry entries, I finally like how my phone is working. It is true, it's a memory hog but I got use to it. BTW in the beginning after upgrading to the Tmo 6.5 official rom, I wanted to go back to 6.1 but couldn't. I even talked to the Tmo. support and how I hated the upgrade and made my phone work like crap. She said the only way to go back to 6.1 is to get another phone from them (swap for a new TP2 with 6.1 still). So this is my story about 6.5 upgrade. So if you have 6.5 and want to go back to 6.1 on a Tmo TP2 better do that now before they run out because the Touch HD2 is coming from them.
Here you can download the original 6.1 TMOUS ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550975
So . . . . has anyone else experienced this clock time lag.
I have been on 6.5 for about 2 weeks and my clock is regularly 3 minutes behind.
(I have a separte TP2 running sometimes JoshKoss Perfect Black and sometimes NRG roms - that device is never behind)
Any thoughts on why on the stock TMo 6.5? There is a small thread on the TMo forums, but it really didn't shed much light.
H E L P . .
WTF do these dumbass replies not relate to the thread title
just look at the thread title and compare it to these dumb ass, off topic posts...

thanks for all your comments...??? That's a ****ing laugh...You didn't start the thread you goon, you hijacked it and rendered it rather useless...
if you have nothing beneficial and on topic to add to the original post, don't post anything at all, or start your own thread...
Aunt Flo visiting??
Wow, someone is having a bad day...
...and for the record, the clock issue seems to be in part due to a "coolness" factor...or at least that seems to be what the consensus says.
Also telling someone who may be interested in 6.5 that there are some issues beyond the clock issue, is not hijacking the thread, it is warning them that another thread may be needed to fix something else that has gone wrong.
Finally, several of the 6.5 issues have been addressed in cooked roms, but they themselves are not 100% bug free, and one may be trading a stock rom issue for a cooked rom issue.
When a solution is found, and works 100% I am absolutely certain someone will post about it and will be practically wetting themselves over said fix.

Perhaps you should take your own rather b*tchy advice (as your post also was of no benefit and provided no fix to the OP's querry). You were quite rude in calling a fellow XDA member a MORON. I'll also add that if you have nothing NICE to say, don't say anything at all.
lol...seems i've struck a nerve...lmao...the raw truth often does...
No the truth doesn't hurt, it is your RUDENESS to other members that bothers me.
Whether a thread has or has not veered off topic is not a reason to be a rude asshole to other members...
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR VERY OWN POST HAD NOTHING BENEFICIAL TO ADD TO THE OP'S QUERY, THEREFOR WAS JUST AS MUCH A HIJACKING AS THE ONES YOU CLAIMED TO BE.
who said anything about the truth hurting, sweetheart?
i see why you couldnt follow the original thread topic...it's because your context clues, are supbar at best...lol...

Striking a nerve implies creating pain. Strike a nerve is a colloquialism for something with negative connotations, while Strike a chord, has positive ones. As you used the term STRIKE A NERVE in the same sentence alluding to the truth...I answered you with the truth does not hurt. Perhaps you were confused with what implications to use, and you really meant to use the positive terminology of Strike a Chord.

Now you not only insult other XDA members, but now attack me for pointing out a very glaringly obvious point to your own post---that you did nothing yourself to answer the OP's posting. Perhaps you have Napoleonic Syndrome and feel it is necessary to attack others to somehow make yourself feel better. We do not need bullies at XDA. Feel free to troll some other website.
If you feel it is truly necessary to continue to attack XDA members and/or flame this thread, go right ahead, as it is now YOU taking it so far off course that I am sure it will soon be closed. I have spoken my mind, and will not engage you further. If you must get the last word in to save your tiny manhhood, then go ahead. If you post again after THIS entry, we shall have our answer about what sort of person you are. That is the RAW TRUTH.

XDA Maintenance and Forums Restored from Backups

As many of you may have heard, we underwent routine maintenance on our Database Server last night (9/25). Upon rebooting the Database Server, it refused to boot and all indications are that the RAID 10 (what is RAID? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID) array failed.
We have restored the Forums from a 24 hour old backup. We know this is not ideal, but at this point, the chances of recovering the failed array are slim.
We sincerely apologize for this.
Technical Info:
This maintenance was intended to boost the redundancy of our database setup and "lightening struck".
The maintenance was to update the OS and make a configuration change to allow us to introduce a slave DB server which would replicate all data on the primary DB server. We are currently running off this intended "slave server" as a master.
ouch how does Raid 10 fail!? hope all is well!
At least your back!

Please quit with the audio-default-enabled ads that autoplay

Hey guys
Please Q/A your ads setup. Playing audio enabled auto-play ads is extremely annoying and beyond acceptable.
Let's keep both of us happy and un-adblocked.
thanks
Do you mean on the site or the app? I always have my speakers turned off on my machine at work, which is generally the only time I'm not on XDA using the app, so I never noticed sound in the ads.
I hate that sh#t though--especially when I'm at work and not trying to draw attention to the fact that I'm taking a break from working to spend time on XDA.
At any rate, the XDA Premium app is well worth the $1.49 to not have to deal with ads (or having to use ad-blockers to get rid of it)...

Also the option of creating an acc with Skipit so I don't have to listen to it and all I have to do is pay a dime every time I skip an add !!! WTF??? I have to PAY not to listen to this rubbish.. You have got to be joking !
And I've just found that the pause and mute only work for 30 seconds and then the buttons don't do anything and the adds just play and play with no way of stopping them or shutting them up.

I'm not blaming the site admin's, it's clearly some moron advertiser sneaking this rubbish in.
It's not there all the time, which will make finding it that much harder. Its seems to kick in at random times?

Yeah, what is going on in these advertisers head?
"Hey let's annoy the living daylights out of possible customers, that way we are sure not to get any customers."
What's worse is that people will install ad-blockers causing sites to lose revenue, couldn't you theoretically sue the bastards for doing this?
I haven't actually encountered sound ads here, though I have on other websites which is really annoying when you are working with 60+ tabs. (can get as high as 400 but then its just because I haven't been cleaning them).
I might have found a work round, or I might have just not had this come up today (or the site might have fix it?)..
If you right click on the add and pick 'Settings' from the Flash options at the bottom (not Global settings) and reduce the amount of local storage allowed to zero it may stop the add running...
All I can say is, I did that yesterday and I haven't had it run again (yet!).
You might have to restart your browser (I'm running FF)...
I was wrong. It doesn't stop it, it's just started up again
It's now coming from 'tag.ybrant.hiro.tv' But still has the Skipit banner at the top...

Hello Mr. Fridgeman,
Please, why don't you try to relax yourself for a moment and let us work on this issue?
Using this kind of attitude it is of any help, we are working on it but, since we aren't the direct culprit for this kind of ads, things may takes some time to solve.
And please, use a differente language
Thanks.

Apologies for the rant was just sick of the adds screwing up my music while surfing. Not a problem now though, just installed adblocker into chrome and they are gone

This is driving me nuts.
Pretty please. Scared the c**p out of me when kiddo left the speakers on full
Super annoying
Yep, very very annoying. If you still require screen shots let me know. Not hard as there seem to be a bunch of them appearing all the time.

To all the fine folks who run/develope/contribute/post here, THANK YOU!

Well I just joined and can not contribute to any of the conversations I would like to contribute to because I do not have 10 posts yet so I guess you can count me as unsatisfied at the moment.. I can't even comment on stuff in the marketplace? So I'm forced to contribute BS to conversations I don't care about to get 10 posts so I can join the discussions I want to join. There seems like there has to be a better way.

Give it time and you'll be able to contribute knowledge that the devs don't get to. While they're making sweet roms for us to use the rest of is are here to help others get to know how they work and contribute fixes for people who get unlucky and brick there phones. It took me a couple of weeks to get enough understanding to be able to help and soon enough you'll be there as well.

I dont have a problem with the 10 post rule. Just take the time go be constructive with your posts, and when you reply to someone post try to add something helpful. As you can see I'm not at 10, but i'll be there soon, no worries.
I'm really enjoying the site

Would have to agree with you kentu3. MOst of the questions have already been answered if you search.
Another thing that I do before posting a question about ROM "xyz" is to read the whole thread on that rom. You would be or not be suprised as to how many times the same question gets asked.
Thanks again kentu3 for this thread, and a big thanks to the DEV's and MOD's who make this site worth visiting
Hi! New here. I for one like the 10 post rule because it helps keeping it clean and when you surpass the limit you have proven yourself worthy.
Coming from a wide range of other communities, also as admin or moderator, I instantly knew XDA's rule was brilliant. Looking forward to contributing in any way I can.
Now I'm gonna try and find out how to find this Thanks-button in XDA app
/M

It is quite an ad-heavy site unless you use a blocker of some description. There's also a mammoth amount of content. I've seen a lot of people mention load times as a downfall, but to be honest I don't notice it taking any longer than some of the other tech sites I frequent
Load times are such a subjective thing though, everyone will differ. What browser do you use? Firefox seems to pop up a lot re: slow load times.
Well I typically do most of my surfing at work, which I use IE right now. Don't have much of a choice. I downloaded Firefox a while back but it never worked right. Not sure if it's because of the firewall or whatever here, (I have no idea how that all works) but Firefox was terrible. I tried to get Chrome but it's blocked too.
The slowness to me isn't really a huge deal, just curious why as other forums I frequent load pretty fast. But the more I surf around here, there is a TON of info.

I use IE (6) at work too Ed, and it's noticeably (horribly) slower than Chrome at home. Likewise, all other options are restriced here for me.
For personal use at home, the latest Chrome with Ad Blocker Pro (free) works extremely well at speeding up the genera;l browsing experience here at XDA. It is a resource-heavy forum so it still takes a little longer to load, but that's the price I pay for the wealth of information here, to me personally anyway
Could be worse, I was on 56k at home until last year when they upgraded our RIM (out in woop-woop)
